Secret Santa #2

On The 12th Date of Christmas

Rate this book
After being mugged, Robin Sorenson is left shaken and her spirit in humanity broken. Worse, she’s not sure how to deal with the new anxieties or who to confide in since she’s always preached to pick oneself up and move on. Yeah, she’s been the go to girl when anyone’s had problems.
Christmas is coming, and her belief in magic and miracles has faded.

Then Jonas comes back.

Jonas Aimes made a mistake. A big one, when he walked away from Robin a year earlier. He’d loved her, always had and still does, but his desire to please his aging and strict parents took precedence. Back from the overseas internship they’d struggled to get him in, he plans on winning Robin back. What he didn’t count on was discovering the shell of the vivacious woman he’d loved.

Broken.

Remembering her love of Christmas, Jonas pulls the holiday heartstrings. What? All is fair and love and war. Right?

Twelve days, Twelve Dates.

Robin is speechless when Jonas not only refuses to leave her alone, but dares her to accept his cheesy holiday themed challenge. Twelve dates to give him a chance to prove he loves her and is never leaving her again.

But in the season known for miracles can Robin find the magic needed to open her heart and faith once more...or will she forever wonder about the ghost of the Christmas past that could have been?

No matter where she goes, USA Today Bestselling author Nikki Lynn Barrett hears voices in her head. Instead of calling her crazy and locking her up, her family realizes it's just a product of being an author and allows her to write the stories so that the voices shut up.
But they don't. And probably never will. There's no need to lock her up, Nikki knows she'll never escape the voices, not until each and every last story is written. And for every story she writes, about ten or more ideas pop up.

When she isn't slaving away at her computer writing books that will probably make you cry and keep you in suspense, Nikki plots to take over the world one book at a time. What? It's a sickness. One she can't escape!

Books aren't her only addiction, though. Nikki can be found making up parodies to drive her son crazy, and bantering back and forth with her husband, who somehow manages to steal her away from the fictional world she lives in all the time.

Nikki lives in Arizona with her husband and son, where she can be found using every creativity outlet she can find through music, photography, handcrafted things, and random interests that she may pick up from time to time.

My very first Christmas story this year so far, and what a great start! This awesome tale had me captivated from beginning to end. I had some things to do in real life today, but took my Kindle with me just incase I could get to read some more, I am glad I did as I did have the chance to pick it up on and off.

Nikki is a very good storyteller, I've only read one other book by her, but I would love to get a chance to read more, she keeps me engrossed. I find it hard to relax, but I found myself blotting out all things around me.

I really felt in the Christmas spirit once I had read this. I think the blurb covers most of it, so I don't want to give the game away much more, except, I can understand where this young lady was coming from, but equally, he deserved a chance. Love it!

I’m going to say it I am happy Nikki Lynn Barrett has finally done Robin’s story. I loved seeing the whole family back again from Jacob, Cheyenne, Ben, Robin and Jonas it was a sweet reunion to see again. The 12th Dates of Christmas Jonas has planned is one that Robin will never forget. These two have always been together but Jonas being young at the time made a stupid mistake at that age. Now that they are older and mature they have a chance to be together. I loved that Nikki Lynn Barrett brought in Ben, the cute little sweet angel from Secret Santa Wishing Well. This little boy is smart and knows right away Jonas and Robin belong together. The season of Christmas truly shows in this sweet romance of two people lost and once again finds each other to make a love grow stronger than ever. Loved it.

On the 12th Date of Christmas by Nikki Lynn Barrett

Genre: Contemporary Romance

On the 12th Date of Christmas is such a novel idea! Yes, small pun intended. I fell in love with the sweet idea of someone trying to win back the love of their life through the magic of Christmas. It has a classic feel, like a timeless Christmas story I would want to tell over and over again.

The main character Robin, was first seen in her debut novel The Secret Santa Wishing Well as the caretaker of Cheyenne’s children, Ben and Desi. We got a small glimpse into her life and the foreshadowing of a struggle in her relationship with her boyfriend Jonas who eventually leaves town.

In this book, the author starts off by jumping right in to Robin’s heartache after being robbed at her home. She’s unable to move forward with her life and is trying to cope with help of her good friends Cheyenne and Jacob.

It’s Christmas time and Jonas returns. He has a plan to put not only his life back together, but Robin’s as well.

Nikki Lynn Barrett sticks to her writing style, giving a perfect combination of suspense and romance. It’s intermingled with real life trials and triumphs, leaving you rooting for Robin and Jonas. I love the way she layers each book with the focal point of it’s on main characters, yet allowing the cameos of others. Ben continues to steal the show, as well as my heart.

I’m primed and ready to see what Christmas miracle waits for me this season!

4.5 Stars! I was given a free copy by the author for an honest review. Otherwise, I wouldn't have picked this to read for myself, I'm not big on holiday movies or books. However, this book has changed my mind.

It's a wonderful story about Robin and Jonas. I was pleasantly surprised. There were genuine feelings, hard struggles, and reality throughout this novel mixed with addiction to find out what happens. The characters make you wish you could be friends with them and share in their lives. I'm interested now in the other book in this series, and would be happy to read how Cheyenne and Jacob find their HEA.

The story of Robin and Jonas. I have fallen in love with Jonas. He has made mistakes in the past but knows what he wants now, and that is Robin. He is willing to stand up for his desires. He has so much patience with Robin, with her anxiety issues. She has always been the "to go girl". Jonas helps her so much to bring back the magic and joy of Christmas.
I highly recommend this book for a Christmas read. Shows the true meaning of love and forgiveness.

Robin deals with anxiety attacks do to a mugging she had. She has lost her Christmas spirit and doesn't know how to get her self back together. All that changes when Jonas comes back. They have a past and while she is leery of giving him a second chance she agrees to give him a chance even if he did break her heart before. Jonas gets her to agree to 12 dates to show her he is a changed man. He wants to get her back to the way she was before and has his work cut out for him. Robin will have to learn to let go of the ghost from her past in order for her and Jonas to have a chance.

Robin is different than she was in the first book. A mugging has left her scared and prone to anxiety attacks. She is very caring and loyal to her friends Cheyenne and Jacob along with Cheyenne's kids. They are very special people and she is her old self with them. She is still a very sweet caring girl who has been through a lot. Jonas seems like a sweet guy who is trying to live his life for him self and not his parents. He has also been part of a tragedy that changed the way he was. I really liked him and how he tries his best to help Robin and doesn't push her.

I adored this book. Robin and Jonas are perfect for each other. I hate that Robin has suffered and seems weak at first but she truly comes back stronger I believe. I fell in love with her in a previous book and I love how Jacob and Cheyenne treat her just like family. Robin has to come to terms about her mugging and also her past. She has a lot of things thrown at her at once but she never stops being there for people when they need help. Jonas also has to come to terms with his parents and changes from what he was. This is a book about two peoples journey into their past and trying to see if they have a future. I love all the characters except Eric and Jonas's parents. The author has created characters that touch you deeply and you never want to let go of them. If you haven't ever read one of her books make sure you do as she is wonderful.

Hotness factor: Get your mind out of the gutter it’s Christmas!

… my true gave to me? One lovesick ex-boyfriend, two controlling in-laws, three revealed secrets, four new family members and whole lot more anxiety! I couldn’t help myself I just had to do this. On the 12th Date of Christmas is the sequel of Secret Santa Wishing Well from the same author Nikki Lynn Barrett that I reviewed less than a month ago. I’ve watched about 10 Christmas movies since then, the Brits love American Christmas movies! So let’s cast this one too.
Robin (Shenae Grimes) and Jonas (Jesse Metcalfe, ten years ago) are reunited after he abruptly left her in Secret Santa Wishing Well. It’s a few weeks before Christmas and he came back to make amends and get his true love back. But Robin has been through a lot in less than 12 months so Jonas’ return might not be such a welcome one. Jonas then suggests the 12 dates’ arrangement… men!
If you’ve read Nikki’s great novels before you know she likes her male characters to redeem themselves in their women’s eyes and Jonas didn’t escape that fate. They are both so young but had to deal with so much, it was very touching. Jacob and Cheyenne from the first book were there as well and we got to see their happy ending evolving in this book which was personally my favourite part because I really enjoyed these characters (hint, hint). I highly recommend it and cannot wait for the third book (hint, hint)…

I received an ARC in exchange if an honest review

Robin Sorenson is struggling to put the pieces of her life back together. The last year has been incredibly difficult with her break up from Jonas Aimes and a mugging that has left her unable to go to her own home. She continues to have panic attacks and just wants the ability to get on with her life.

When Jonas Aimes returns to beg Robin for another chance he has no idea how much she is struggling. He begs her to give him 12 dates to show how much he cares about her and how he is no longer being influenced by what his parents say and think.

Will Robin allow Jonas a second chance when she knows she is likely to get her heart broken again? Will Jonas's parents still try to interfere in their relationship?

This is such a great series with amazing characters! I really loved getting to know Robin in The Secret Santa Wishing Well and in this book you got to see more of the strong and amazing friendship between Robin and Cheyenne. In this one it is more Cheyenne who is there for Robin but the two have the type of friendship that many women would love to have with someone!

Jonas was really trying to prove to Robin how much he had changed and he worked super hard at finding special things to do with Robin. He was there for her anytime Eric came around and gained the trust of Cheyenne and Jacob.

I was definitely surprised with what went on with Jonas's parents and how everything tied together.

I also like how I believe the author is setting up the next book by giving us a glimpse of Petra and what she is going through. I currently hate Eric so we'll see how the author tries to get us to change our mind on him!

On The 12th Date of Christmas by Nikki Lynn Barrett

5 star review

Reviewed on behalf of 2 girls who love books blog.

Ahh I do love a nice Christmas story and On The 12th Date of Christmas has got me in the Christmas spirit. I have read a few books by this author now and this one was everything that I have come to expect from Nikki Lynn. She always manages to create such likeable characters and heart-warming stories. I read this as a standalone but it is part of The Secret Santa series and I believe the characters do appear in the other books but each book focuses on a different character.

This was Robins’ story. Poor Robin is let shaken and her spirit in humanity broken after she was mugged. Having always been everyone’s go to girl when they have problems Robin finds it hard when she has to deal with new anxieties and questions who to confide in. Until Jonas comes back into her life.
Jonas knows he made a big mistake when he walked out of Robin’s life – he’d loved her and still does but his desire to please his aging parents took precedence. Jonas wants to get Robin back so he comes up with a cheesy holiday themed challenge – twelves dates in twelve days!

I loved the storyline between Robin and Jonas, she was clearly hurt when he chose his parents over her but he was determined to show her that he still loved her and was willing to pull out all the stops to get her back. It just goes to show that sometimes people do deserve that second chance!

A lovely heart-warming story that will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit! I definitely recommend it!

I received an ARC from the author, in exchange for my honest review of On the 12th Date Of Christmas.

This was a sweet story about Robin and Jonas. I’ve not read any of Nikki’s books before, but I definitely will after this one. We meet Robin who has had something happen to her, but as a reader you are not sure exactly what, enter Jonas, the ex boyfriend who left her and broke her heart.

Both of these characters in their year apart from each other have had some pretty horrible things happen to them, but Jonas has learned he made the biggest mistake of his life letting Robin go, and will do anything to win her back, enter the 12 dates of Christmas.

This is such a cute way to get her to see he has changed. There is a tons of ups and downs in this story, finding out why his parents hate her, Eric, Robin’s best friend Cheyanne’s ex, etc. But this book was really well written and told a sweet story, great for this time of the year.

I do think you should read Secret Santa Wishing Well prior to reading this one, since the characters are the same, but different stories. I am now going to go read that one because even though I know how that couple ends up, I want to read their story.

Nikki is an amazing story teller, and I definitely will read more books by her. I just wish we got more of the epilogue and what happens next :(

First I would like to thank the author for providing me with an ARC copy of this book to read and review for this blog tour <3 Much Loveage

I love to read Christmas romances towards the said joyful time of the year, it brings joy, happiness, love and family and makes me go all warm and fuzzy.

Although this is a hearty Christmas romance, it's still full of anger, pain, suspense, family betrayal, loved one mistrust.! Definitely kept me on my toes and wanting to not put my kindle down, so I could get to the bottom of the story :)

Jonas realises he messed up big time letting his family come between the love he had for Robin a few months back. He is back now, more determined than ever to win back his girl, but nothing prepared him for what was in store for him.

Nothing prepared him to find Robin the way she is.

After being mugged Robin has no Christmas spirit left to give and she certainly doesn't want to receive any back, but when a past flame re-enters her world determined to get the "old" Robin back, can she keep pushing her loved ones away?

Can she carry on being without the love of her life?

I loved Ben, he is so adorable for an 8 year old boy. Clearly matured well and definitely acts older than her is.

Robin's year has been difficult with Jonas leaving and then being mugged. She is a shell of herself. Jonas returns before Christmas desperate for a second chance with her. His idea of 12 dates to convince her is intriguing.

You do need to read 'The Secret Santa Wishing Well' first as some of the events follow on and the characters the same.

The Christmas magic returned to weave its spell once again. I did feel as though the other events took over Jonas and Robin's story and that the 12 date focus got a little lost and it became almost an afterthought.

In a nutshell, this is a lovely romantic christmas read!

Robin first meets Jonas again while trying to work up the courage to enter her apartment complex for the first time after being mugged.

Robin doesn't trust Jonas after he left her and chose to head for his internship in Europe, which was arranged by his parents. His parents who wanted him to have nothing to do with the one woman who held his heart...and still does.

Trying to gain Robin's trust and her heart again, Jonas suggests 12 dates and at the end of the 12 dates if she doesn't want to see him again he will walk away, no matter how much it will hurt him to do so. After a bit of a discussion, Robin takes him up on the dates, which have a habit of not going as planned.

Not only does the author manage to write a heartwarming love story, but she adds a bit of suspense and angst as well, which gets the heart pounding. Nikki Lynn Barrett has a natural talent as a writer and I can't wait to read her next book.

This can be read as a standalone.

I loved reading the story of Robin & Jonas! (You meet Robin's character in The Secret Santa Wishing Well). Robin has been through 2 traumatic things in the last year, Jonas leaving to go do an internship and then being mugged. Her spirit has been broken and she is not sure how to deal with it all & move on. She has been the one that everyone else goes to for help, so it isn't easy for her to confide in anyone. Jonas comes back into her life, determined to win her back. He realized so much when he was away from Robin for the year; and he even goes through a tragedy of his own that changes him forever. Robin is not sure if this changed Jonas is the real deal or if he is just trying to get her back. So she agrees to go on 12 dates with him to see where it might lead; either a new beginning or the end of what once was. She can have a Christmas here in the present if she can only leave the ghost of Christmas past in her yesterday.

This book was a total surprise in the most fantabulous of ways. I was expecting a feel good romance which Nikki totally delivered on, but what i was not expecting was all the suspense and drama which had me unable to put the book down. This book is definitely more than just a feel good Christmas romance and I highly recommend it too anyone who loves a good page turner.

PS can i have my own Jonas he is so my new book boyfriend.

PPS is it wrong that i want Eric to fix himself up and try and win back Petra

I don't read a lot of holiday themed books, but this one drew me in because of the fun premise. Jonas wants twelve dates to prove to Robin they can make it work.

Overall, this is a very fun holiday read. It does get away from the 12 dates theme in the middle (and thankfully gets back to it by the end), and as someone who hadn't read the first book in the series I found myself wishing the back story was explained a little better. All in all, though, I enjoyed Robin and Jonas' Christmas love story.

A beautiful, heartwarming Christmas story with a touch of drama and suspense. Robin is trying to overcome the obstacles in her past. Jonas is trying to put his life back together. Will the spirit of the Christmas season help them to overcome their past and see what's important and right there in front of them?
The characters are realistic and deep. I instantly loved each one of them.
This is a great book to curl up and read with a blanket and a cup of cocoa!

Robin lost a lot in the last year: two boyfriends and her peace of mind. It's Christmas time again, a time for forgiving. Jonas comes back hoping to gain some forgiveness for himself. Robin wonders how much more she can risk while still recovering from all the blows.
A very cute premise - 12 dates to win her back!

I first met Robin's character in The Secret Santa Wishing Well. Robin had two traumatic things happen to her. First Jonas Aimes leaves to do an Internship [we find out later that Jonas parents gave him an ultimatum], second Robin gets mugged in her apartment. After being mugged, Robin Sorenson is left shaken and her spirit/trust in humanity is broken and Robin was the one everybody went to for help/advice but, she doesn't heed to her own advise. The only people Robin truly trusts are Cheyenne and Jacob and they have Robin live with them. One day she tried to go back to her apartment when a familiar voice speaks to her and it was Jonas Aimes who came back. Jonas asked Robin to hear him out. Jonas decides he will do what ever it takes to win Robin back and that is when he came up with idea of he and Robin going on 12 dates so he could prove how much he loved/cared for her and that his parents will no longer be influenced by what his parents say and think and Robin agrees. Then one day while visiting his parents Robins learns some very disturbing news regarding her mother. Do Jonas and Robin works things out? Do Jonas parents attempt to interfere in their relationship? To find out you really need to read this book. You will Love it!! This is a MUST read book!! Nikki Lynn did an awesome job with this book!! I truly Loved it!!

ON THE 12TH DATE OF CHRISTMAS
by Nikki Lynn Barrett

On the 12th Date of Christmas is the second book in the Secret Santa series but is a great read as a stand alone. In this book you get to know Robin and Jonas better but will still get to see updates of Cheyenne and Jacob. You get to see how young mistakes can cause so much hurt but if you truly love someone you can find the forgiveness in your heart. You will also feel how at times life can be so hard and unfair that you have great anxiety over it yet it shows you all you have to do turn to your best friend and trust he/she will get you through all life has to throw at you. Loved watching these couples grow from young and naive to mature yet knowing they still have so much to learn in life.
