The Martini Sisterhood—five women bonded by the ties of friendship, supporting each other through challenges of surviving love, and loss. For these women, life can change on a whimsical dare and a Magic Eight Ball…
She’s good at sorting out professional messes…
Accountant Zip Collins spends so much time on spreadsheets that’s she’s forgotten what it’s like to tangle between the sheets. During her weekly cocktail hour with the girls, they consult a Magic Eight Ball about her crush on bartender Tony. When the toy advises her to go for it, Zip dares to color outside the lines and go after the man who heats her dreams.
He’s in the middle of a personal trial…
Tony Giordano enjoys Friday nights above all others because it’s the one night a week he’s sure to see his favorite sexy accountant. Having long since resigned Zip to the look, but don’t touch category, he’s blown away by her invitation. Tony's always been a planner, but with his custody battle looming, he's not prepared for the effect she has on him.
One night leaves them both shaken…
What began as a whimsical dare quickly turns passionate, but is an unquenchable desire—and a Magic Eight Ball’s advice—enough for these two planners to risk happily ever after on?
I love books. Not just a little bit, but a lot. Books were my best friends when I was growing up. Books didn’t care if I was new to a town or to a class. They were always there, my trustiest of companions. Until they turned on me and said I had to write them.
I can tell you that my own personal happily ever after included writing books. I’ve always said that an HEA is a work in progress. It’s true in my marriage, my friendships, and in my career. I am constantly nurturing my muse as we dive into new tales, new tropes, new characters and more.
After seventeen years back in Texas, we relocated to the Pacific Northwest in search of seasons, new experiences, and new geography. I can’t wait to discover what life (and my muse) have in store for me.
Maybe writing was always my destiny and romance my fate. After all, my grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and used to read me her Harlequin Romance novels.
Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you name it, I love them and love to write them. I started with Earth Witches Aren’t Easy, the first in the Chance Monroe trilogy, but my characters and I have traveled a long way since I created that urban fantasy world.
One of the series I hear my readers recommend the most is the Untouchable series followed in quick succession by the Vandals, and that just delights me. No lie, whenever one of my readers brings up my wolves, I do a little a fist pump.
I’m active on social media, and I love hearing from readers. Feel free to tag me with a question about any of my books, or just say hi!
I really liked Shaken by Heather Long. It took me back to all those feelings of being wrapped up in a whirlwind romance and made me feel warm and fuzzy. Zip and Tony were so sweet together and more than a little spicy. Zip and her friends had a down to earth vibe mixed with Sex and the City.
I love Heather's Marines, but these Martini mavens rock the house! I love stories that center around a great group of women who are lifelong friends. Shaken is the first book in this brand new series and starts us off with a hit. (Not that I expect anything else from Miss Heather Long) I loved the characters in Shaken. Though we only got a brief introduction to the girls in the Martini Sisterhood, their differences in personality and occupations makes for an interesting dynamic. Zip was hilarious. I loved how she was so buttoned up and such an "accountant" on the outside, but hiding a gentle and passionate heart underneath. Tony was just... wow. Do they really make men like that anymore? A hardworking, loving, caring man. An awesome father, who plans for the future and isn't afraid to commit. Damn, I have a great husband, but if I didn't I would snap up Tony in a heartbeat! You all know my criteria for a great book: Heart, Humor and Heat. The golden triangle, and Shaken hits them all. I can't wait for the next book!
Shaken (The Martini Sisterhood #1) by Heather Long, is a steamy novella set in New York City. It is about five best friends that know each other inside and out. Every Friday night they meet after work at Coveted, one of hippest bars in Midtown Manhattan to enjoy great service, cocktails, and good conversation. This book focuses on accountant Zip Collins and the bartender at Coveted, Tony Giordano.
Zip and Tony have been attracted to each other for about a year, but were unable to do anything about it until recently. When Zip gets a little tipsy, she asks Tony out and he readily accepts. Within a two week period, their lives are completely transformed and their future is bright.
This is a fast-paced read with lots of scorching heat. The characters are fun, likeable and well-defined. I am looking forward to reading more from author Heather Long, and can't wait for book two in this series to be released.
ARC received from publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to like this one. I liked that the friends met every week, that they were there to help each other through things as life came up. What didn't work for me was the instant romance that came up with the Zip and Tony. Zip's lusted after Tony for a long while, but knowing he was taken ignored things. Tony thought Zip was cute, but didn't make a move until she did and he was single. From there things went into overdrive to first date and more. It didn't work for me, making the book not for me, this one just wasn't for me.
A sweet and sexy read from one of my favorite authors. Zip is about as buttoned down as you can get but a girl can dream yes? Tony is the sexy bartender with the dreamy eyes but he is so much more than that. They have been making eyes at each other for over a year but it takes a couple of Martinis and a magic 8 ball and the good natured egging on from the girls to get Zip to ask Tony out. Is this the beginning of a wonderful new relationship? Without a doubt.
I received an eARC from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.
He's going to shake up her martini's and her life!
Great start to a new series about 5 friends. They've been friends since college. Now they are all grown up and single again. They have standing plans every Friday involving great food, friends, atmosphere, and several pitchers of martinis. This book focuses in on one of the women from the martini sisterhood, as they've come to think of themselves. And now a bit about the story...
Zip is the cautious one, an accountant by trade. She is practical and always has a plan. She has sworn off men she works with after her last fiasco. Being the first to arrive at Coveted, the local bar the sisters go to each week, she is in their booth pretending to read her romance novel while the whole time she is watching Tony, the sexy bartender. That night all the girls are able to make it -- Veronica, the lawyer, Lucy, the doctor, Kaley, an artist, and Jem, who is in advertising. Jem brought about her latest assignment, remarketing the Magic 8 Ball. After many rounds of drinks, Zip (who never had the toy growing up) asks a few questions and between the ball, her friends, and liquid courage, she faces her fears and asks Tony out. Great ready for a whirlwind!! Can't wait for the next one....
Favorite passages: - "I swear your mother makes cardboard seem interesting." - Accountant. If his accounting teacher had been half as interesting to him, he'd have enjoyed the class a hell of a lot more. - After giving him an hour to feel sorry for himself, she kicked him square in the ass to do something about it. She'd acted the part of confidant, best friend, and drill sergeant all rolled into one.
Zip is a very stable, conservative accountant. Every week, Zip and her best friends meet up at the same bar for girl’s night out. On one of those nights, Zip takes a dare and asks the bartender, Tony, on a date. They really hit it off and begin a heated love affair.
I’m not really into chic-lit and this definitely falls inside that category. While well written, there’s no real conflict between the couple. All of the conflict is outside the relationship. Mainly, Tony has a conflict he’s dealing with from a previous relationship. Wait, I take that back. I think they might have scheduling conflicts because he works a night shift and she works a day job. The end. That’s the conflict. Not really my cup of tea.
Wait! Stop! Was this the book where there was an actual “throbbing member”? My book is packed. Someone look it up and tell me!!! If there is, I’m coming back and changing my review to five stars.
***Received from Fated Desires Publishing for an honest review*** (This is a short story/novella. This review is not based on story length but story content as length has very little to do with how much I enjoy a book.)
There's a lot of oomph packed into this novella. Tony and Zip aren't shallow characters indulging in an attraction that's been simmering for a while. They're realistic and believable, from their individual histories to occupations, to their current situations and emotions.
And what I loved the most was Zip's friends' support throughout the entire story. The Martini Sisterhood isn't just the name of the series; it's a nod and a raised glass to the power of true friendship.
Ms. Long pens a sexy, steamy and enjoyable novella with Shaken. I really enjoyed Zip and Tony. They’re full of life and even though they are even fans of different baseball teams, they somehow come together and make it work.
This is a fast paced story, Zip and Tony have been eyeing each other and dancing around each other for a year until with the help Zip’s friends and a Magic8 Ball, Zip finally acts on her attraction. Tony is definitely willing and able to meet Zip full force with his own attraction.
Full of heat, and loveable characters it’s a great start to a new series, and I look forward to the rest of the ‘sisters’ downfalls when they get their own turn at love.
Shaken by Heather Long is just another example of how versatile this author is. This short story packs a lot of umph, with well developed characters and enough steam to warm you up on a cold winter's night. Highly recommended read.
Fun and HOT HOT HOT!!! what I loved about this the most was there was no one trying to tear them apart (not really) and neither of them had huge amounts of insecurity that they had to express over and over again. It was upbeat and sexy!!
I cant believe Im saying this but: too much sex in relation to the story. This book couldve been soooo much better had it been given more substans story-wise. Loved the characters though. Overall an enjoyable read.
I love this book because it was a sweet simple read no drama or i hate you then i love you relationship. I haven't read something like in along time great book.
Awesome book! I cant wait to read what happens to the next Martini Sister. Thank you, Heather for giving me the opportunity to read the first in your series!
