I stumbles across this book and since it was available for free on Smashwords, I decided to give it a try. It's a short story.
It was a pleasant, easy and very quick read. The writing flows well with good description. I was expecting something with a darker mood (possibly due to the cover illustration) but still enjoyed it. For me the mood was not dark at all but still had a nice mysterious feel to it which increased as the story progressed. I was shocked by the abruptness of the ending. It fit the plot but I was just starting to get into the story. I turned the page, intrigued to see what was about to happen, when it said "End". :( Oh well, it is after all a short story. I would love to see what this author can do with a full length novel.
I had a hard time deciding how many stars to give it. 3 stars was not enough as "I Liked it" is kind of weak, while 4 stars as "I really liked it" is a little overstated. So I guess 3.5 stars would be my preference.
Another great short. I really love how the author can put so much into a story that takes me about 20 minutes to read and then I'm left wanting more. Grandfather has some strange habits and "friends" while Davida doesn't quite understand she is curious but sometimes things are better left not understood. Grandfathers "friends" aren't what they appear to be and I'll leave it at that.
I really enjoyed the author's style of writing and the use of language. His word's were bright and descriptive. I do feel, however, that I kept waiting for something to happen. Something to grab me and pull me in and then before that could happen the story ended.
