This is a great beginner’s guide filled with hints and tips to get you started. I also appreciate the sample alphabets replete with order of brushstrokes- a great way to learn this art. While I do not have time to pick up a pen right now, it was fun pretending for a while that I might start practicing calligraphy. I will hold onto this book as I might be able to start this type of art at a later point and will use this as my starting guide.
Somewhat unique to books like this, pp. 37-41 give useful written instructions on the geometry of letter shaping.
Plus there is a list of useful pangrams ("a sensisble or fanciful statement rendered as briefly as possible using all twenty-six letters of the alphabet") beyond the standard "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." e.g. "Brawny gods just flocked up to quiz and vex him." "The wizard jumped quickly over seven green boxes." "Farmer Jack realized that big yellow quilts were expensive." etc.
