Sometimes the scars we can’t see are the ones that run the deepest. Fresh off barely stopping a plot to derail the world’s economy, Special Agent Emily Slate finds herself faced with a new and strange a body found drained of all its blood in a small Louisiana town. The local police can’t seem to make heads or tails of it and Emily’s boss insists this is the perfect case for her, despite her desire to find the person continuing to send her letters claiming they’re from her dead mother. But when Emily arrives to begin her investigation, without her ride-or-die fellow Agent Zara Foley to boot, she discovers superstition embedded deep in the small community of Bellefleur. Superstition which only grows when a second body is discovered. Emily has never had to face a supernatural killer before, though everyone keeps insisting that’s what’s out there, terrorizing people. But Emily isn’t willing to accept anything on face value, and she will do whatever it takes to get to the truth behind these deaths. It will take all of Emily’s wits to uncover the secrets behind these killings, secrets that reach back hundreds of years and speak to the very heart of what it means for one person to be connected to another. Will she find the truth before it’s too late? Or will Bellefleur’s secrets swallow her up, like the rest of the town? You don’t belong here, little sister. Run home before it’s too late.
Another sensational outing with Agent Emily Slate. This time, we are transported down to the Louisiana Bayou for a very bizarre round of strange murders.
As always, these are the characters we have done to know and love. It's an absolute page-turner that leaves you guessing until the end. But, with Emily and her best sidekick Zara, the adventure is just as satisfying as the reveal
Fantastic read and highly recommend anything by this author.
It’s Emily Slate meets The X-Files! The first half of this book was giving me “Bad Blood” vibes… y’all remember that X-Files episode, right? Emily knows there’s no way her case has anything to do with the supernatural, but the locals didn’t get that memo! It made for some delightful interactions between Emily and the local detective & medical examiner.
Investigating a string of murders, each with their own supernatural slant, while surrounded by folks who are all-too-willing to believe in vamps, ghosts, and werewolves gave the start of this book a tongue-in-cheek comedic flair that was so fun to read! Emily’s frustrated. She knows her killer is a flesh & blood mortal, she just can’t find the proof she needs.
But by about halfway through the story things get serious. Someone is hellbent on stopping the FBI from meddling in the investigation, with deadly consequences and a rapidly rising body count.
I’ve loved every single Emily Slate book I’ve read but the paranormal flair in this one pulled it to the top of my list. It was too much, in the best way! My only gripe for Alex was how long we were left hanging waiting to find out what actually happened to dear, sweet Liam! (Yes, I may have a small crush on Liam; he’s patient, handsome, and he cooks… he’s pretty perfect!)
Emily is sent south to a small town on a bayou to uncover the truth about a murder staged to look like a vampire drain all her blood, then another murder staged like a werewolf attack and finally a fourth murder staged as death from the creature from the Black Lagoon. An FBI agent sent to review the bodies for possible real cause of death is murdered and the same night Emily is attacked and only survived because Sara shows up in the nick of time. They solve these murders and arrests are made. Emily gets a call from a doctor in the hospital nearest the town her mother is from, Liam was caught in a fire and has scorched lungs and she flies straight to Ohio to be at his side. Great series. Love it.
Not a big believer in the occult and things connected to it so this book took a minute to grab my full attention. But when the final few chapters started to come together it all made sense. But I really am looking to the unravelling of the truth of the letters.
Emily is hunting for a Killer the local mortician says is a vampire.
The local mortician has declared the waxy looking body is the work of a vampire. Then when the second body shows up she says it was a werewolf. And she is not going to believe anybody that tries to tell her different. She even has the local cops sort of believing in her fantasy. Emily calls in a different mortician and that women is killed also. But by that time Emily has her team together and they are coming up with different answers. Only after Emily is attacked and Zara comes to her aid is the crime starting to come together
The latest release in the Emily Slate series by Alex Sigmore has our fearless agent looking for murderous vampires, werewolves, and witches in the very superstitious town of Bellefleur, Louisiana. With the town’s coroner and the detective assigned to this strange string of murders believing the unbelievable, Emily is determined to not buy into the locals’ crazy folklore and find out who rather than what is wreaking havoc on this town.
I loved the fun twist on serial killing in this one! It also seriously raised some hairs as all my favorite main characters were put in serious peril. Will they all make it out of this one alive?
This book releases on September 1, and will be available on #kindleunlimited so be sure to add it to your #TBR!
Thank you @AlexSigmore for the advanced copy of this book. I can’t wait for the next one!
Emily Slate is back in action, only this time the supernatural seems to be involved. Vampires and werewolves in a superstitious rural Louisiana town seem to be involved in murder. The local police and coroner believe that something otherworldly are murdering townspeople. It is up to Emily to determine who the murderer or murderers are and prevent any more deaths. Emily has a job to do and isn’t going to let local beliefs sideline her investigation. As usual there is plenty of mystery, mayhem, and relationships brought to light. I love the series and this book was just as good as the rest of them. I could not put it down. I would highly recommend it.
Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. After barely surviving becoming a casualty of Simon Magus's twisted agenda, things have changed for Emily and Zara; especially for Zara whom fears she can no longer handle the intense stress that comes with being a field agent. And an insanely bizarre case has just dropped into Emily's lap that pulls her focus from her friends and even from the newest developments concerning those mysterious letters. But it isn't just how Cameron Bright has been murdered that has Emily totally confounded by but the town of Bellefleur and its residents and the deep rooted feelings of the supernatural is behind the bodies pile up that makes Emily wants to scream. When the case becomes hauntingly personal towards the FBI, Emily can't stop scouring through the bizarre clues, desperate for a thread to lead her to the truth of why these people had to die. The answers always come with a tragic cost and even Emily's personal case takes a twist she'd wish hadn't happened.
The Vanishing Eyes is the eleventh book in the Emily Slate Series by Alex Sigmore. This has the vibes of crime thrillers that feel like binge-worthy TV shows, but in book form. Alex Sigmore has created FBI agent, Emily Slate, who’s tough, smart, and just the right amount of emotionally messy to make her feel real and relatable. She’s not some flawless superhero type - she’s been through loss, made mistakes, and still pushes forward, which makes you root for her even harder. Each book has its own mystery, but there’s also this ongoing thread about Emily’s personal life and career struggles that keeps you hooked from one installment to the next. The twists are sharp, and while you might guess a few things, the author still manages to throw in curveballs that make you go, wait, WHAT?! Well worth the read. Happy Reading…
This the first book series that have kept me reading book after book. Every book was very interesting and exciting to read and hard to put down. Mostly books Ive read after book 5 or so, Im already bored because the storyline or plot seemed just the same, so I have to move on with a different author. This is also my very first review of a book ever,, considering I have read alotof books.
I think this is the best of what I have read so far. The author was able to weave the story around to so many possibilities. Keeping me guessing Again I was wrong about who was doing the killing until the last two chapters. But the one who started it all, not who I expected at all. An awesome read. I had to read it straight. thru without putting it down. You loose a lot of sleep reading this author. Boy is it worth it. Love love love is work.
So I got into this book series and thought the first few were pretty good. But they get more ridiculous and hard to fathom the more of them I read. How Emily Slate can still be an agent when she is so reckless, so clueless and puts others in danger? I Don’t understand how Liam and Zara can still have anything to do with her when she blatantly puts their lives in danger time and again by ignoring very clear predictable signs and their warnings!
Has I have said before, this is a great series. You just can't stop reading it. I have many others to read but I just can't stop with this series till I have caught up with the 18th one. I am getting there, The characters keep you reading it to see what happens to them. I try to figure out the "bad" person but I haven't picked the correct one yet. I am usually pretty good at finding the bad person, Alex is a great writer. He keeps it interesting, where you don't want to stop. Check it out
super creepy quasi-supernatural paranormal homicides
Odd take on a witchcraft wiccan-infused investigation, didn’t seem particularly “deep” as far as New Orleans folklore and culture; the story could have been set in the Northeast instead of the richly historic Louisiana delta.
Liam sets out to see what’s in Ohio - and encounters unexpected peril.
A really well -researched story, told well, with little or no confusion. I followed along, intrigued by the abnormal crimes. Seemed over too quickly, but maybe because I was wrapped up in it.
The story is actually a solid 4. Unfortunately, my Kindle book has a boatload of technical errors and kept kicking me out of the book every few pages. Severely hampered my enjoyment of the book.
