This was a solid read that moved along at a good pace. It was my first book by this author and I would read others by her. It was one of those books I was able to read in the course of 24 hours, and it was light and easy. Though it was not perfect, it was sweet and some of the characters really grabbed me.
I actually went into this thinking I wouldn't like it because the first scene put me off. Nate came off as such a jerk and Mia as a spineless crybaby. After awhile, though, Nate won me over. His character was well developed and fleshed out. His interactions with his son, Mikey, were so adorable and the little boy was well written and cute. I did, however, come to like Mia. She was weak and cried too much. Also, I can understand sometimes why a woman would hide a pregnancy from her ex, but in this case Mia was just selfish. I could have been okay with her selfishness if she eventually came to regret it. While she said she regretted it, her apology felt kind of backhanded, and she continued to try to justify her actions, which annoyed me. it didn't matter that Nate didn't want marriage, he had a right to know he had a son. She kept trying to make him the bad guy in all this, when she was the one in the wrong. Nate was honest, she was not.
While I enjoyed the short, quick pace of the book, I felt it should have been just a bit longer considering the drama that went on toward the end. It felt rushed and anticlimactic, and I felt the book either needed to be longer to give it more time to pan out, or it shouldn't have been there. The story was as good without the added element of the possible kidnapping.
Aside from that the author has an easygoing style that was easy to get into. For me the flaws in this book were not with the storytelling but with Mia's character. I think that I would enjoy other books by this author with a heroine with more of a backbone.
