PERSONAL RESPONSE:
This book, The Alpha Nation, is the second book in the Mystics Series. I did not like the The Alpha Nation as much as the first book, The Seventh Sense. I thought the second book kind of drug out. It felt like it took me forever to finally reach the end of the book. I did not enjoy the plot of this book. I thought it wasn't very eventful. It kind of bothered me how the first book was written throughout a long time period while this one was not at all. It felt like it all happened within like a month. Honestly, the only reason I finished this book was because it was the second book and I wanted to finish the series. I had to finish the second book to read the third.

PLOT:
In The Alpha Nation the three main characters were Zoey, Tristan, and Simon. The three of them never followed any of the agencies rules. Zoey had one plan and that was to find out where her mother was located. Everything she did was to either help the agency or to find her mother. Somehow Zoey always got clues to where her mother was. The clues always resulted in the three teens going on an adventure, which seemed to always lead them into trouble. It was when Zoey found out Mrs. Dupont had a town where the Alphas lived, she thought that was where her mother was. They all ended up getting caught and taken to the crazy cat lady. Mrs. Dupont used Zoey in a way that could ruin both worlds. Zoey was then blamed for everything that happened with the Great Junction.
.
CHARACTERIZATION:
Zoey was a 16 year old girl that grew up in the foster care system her whole life until she got taken to the Agency. She was a very independent young lady who thought she did not need help from anybody. She had red curly hair with very pale skin. Tristan was a 17 year old boy that was a operative in the special ops program. Him and Zoey met when they saved her life the night she left the foster home. He is a very muscular teen that knows that he is good looking. Zoey realized that she was getting feelings for Tristan and she had a feeling he also had some feelings for her. Simon was a nerdy 16 year old. He knew everything there was to know about the legal and illegal mystics. He was scared of everything but he always knew what to do. He was very helpful throughout the whole story. The crazy cat-like lady was Mrs. Dupont. She was very tall and skinny, like the anorexic people today. She had white skin with yellow cat-like eyes. Mrs. Dupont was the type of lady that had to be in charge no matter what.

IMPACT of SETTING:
In the beginning, this story took place at the Agency’s Hive. As the story progressed the characters were at the Alphas town/ camp. This was where the Alpha Queen Mrs. Dupont ruled and forced mystics to do all of the work for her. Then they ended up at the Hive again when the bad things started to go down. The story took place in present tense, during the 2000’s.

THEMATIC CONNECTION:
I feel like the theme in this story is if a person has their mindset to do something, then do not listen to what other people say achieve the goal that the person wishes to achieve. In the story Zoey set a goal to find her mom and she was not going to quit until she did. That is the type of attitude that I have for all of my goals in life. Whatever a person set their mind to they can achieve.

RECOMMENDATION:
I would recommend this book to anybody who loves a suspenseful science fiction book. It also has supernatural elements in it. I feel like the audience’s age should range from 12-18 years of age. It was a very easy simple read that did not have to much new vocabulary. I enjoyed this book enough to finish it.

Once again, the Hive accused Zoey of the chaos that happened with the Hive around the worlds. Thankfully, with help from her best friends, she got out of the cell and was determined to prove her innocent. As usual, her best friend didn't let her go alone on the mission to find a cure to the problem.

The trio ventured into the Alpha nation territory, a dangerous zone where Zoey almost lost her best friends. While searching for the cure, she also received information on her mother's whereabouts. One thing that baffled me was when they were in the midst of a dangerous situation, Zoey still managed to explain what had happened to her. It's like the whole evil mystics paused! It was unbelievable.

Anyway, I enjoyed the plot of this book more than the first book, The Seventh Sense. I thought it was full of action and fast-paced. I loved the characters, especially Simon, and loved the ride and adventure they all took me on!

The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.

I had to give this three stars. A lot of the stuff in the book bothered me like Zoey and her friends spend way too much talking when they are in a very dangerous situations with monsters or Alphas. For example when they needed to leave the lab full of mystics, Zoey spent her time talking and explaining what happened to her and the portal. It really aggravated me because instead of wasting their time talking they should use every second to escape. Another thing was that the agents didn't act like adults at all and were so stupid, every time something bad they'd start shouting at Zoey, "You did this and blah blah blah." Zoey didn't even try to defend herself and kept quiet, I'm like what the heck?!!! Your just going to let them accuse you? Speak up and tell them off.
I'm just thankful for the Director Hicks and Agent Barnes, who acted maturely and handled the situations right. I'm still surprised Director Martin wasn't fired. He's not fit to lead an agency and he annoyed me a lot.
What I did enjoy about the book was growing relationship and interest between Tristan and Zoey. They just give me butterflies. And Simon is still as funny as ever. I admired their loyalty to their friendship and stuck with one another through whatever they faced. The ending was awesome and made up for the stuff that bothered me in the beginning.

Again 2.5 stars
Overall, not a bad continuation to the story started in 'The Seventh Sense'. The black oil plot was very interesting and most of the story aspects were good.
However there were things that annoyed me. Mainly when Zoey is accused and doesn't bother to say it wasn't her. I found this difficult to believe.
Then the writer's compulsion to write one-liners at the expense of scene tension. I couldn't stand all the jokes made in life or death situations and everyone seemed to make them regardless of personality. It always pulled me out of the story.
Next the writer overwrites or underwrites in many places and often 'tells' the story instead of showing.
Finally, as with 'Marked', where is the time for reflection? Most of the book happens over a single day and it just felt like too much. Anyway, I'll be finishing off the series soon.
One more thing as well, that I forgot to mention: the writer still is not au fait with believable dialogue, character relationships or even grammar (I noticed incorrect dialogue formatting and usage of semicolons. The latter is forgiveable, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out correct dialogue format. The author just needs to have a look in a book).

i enjoyed the story but there were several typos and other proofing errors. i felt the author was holding back a bit in the "creativity" field. There were several places in the story that seemed to have been cut short in description and time. The story line was unique and original and i loved the supernatural, magical mystery of it all.

not impressed with the authors writing. i bought this book hoping the writing would get better after reading book 1. The story line is good and finished this book only because of it. Do'n't think i will buy book 3.

This isn't my usual genre, but I really enjoyed this book. The book moved along at a good pace and was very entertaining. I am looking forward to reading the next book to find out what is going to happen to these people. Really liked it.

I had to give this book three stars, there were too many personal conflicts for the characters. The Alpha Nation wasn't as big or tough as I thought when I read the first book either.

I sure have hopes the next book will be packed with more plot and action instead of the characters' personal pain.

I am hoping the last book in the series ties everything up nicely. This book was a little off as compared to the first book. Less pain for Zooey, Tristan and Simon and more plot please.

The author has used 2 concepts similar from Harry Potter, the knight bus concept and the concept of the headless hunt. Headless knights riding on horses

Overall it was an interesting read.
