Financial advisor Guthrie MacNeill isn’t a complete Scrooge—he just hates the enormous cost associated with the Christmas holiday season. Needless to say, when his pack hires a party planner to decorate the castle, he’s at his wit’s end. Until Calla Stewart arrives on the scene with her mistletoe in hand.
Calla has never had a client as difficult as Guthrie, but she’s determined to give the pack a Christmas season they will never forget—no matter how much it costs. But when her ex-fiancé begins stalking her and threatening her safety, Guthrie decides to loosen his grip on the purse strings and let out his inner Highland warrior wolf to protect her.
Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.
She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.

📚A Highland Wolf Christmas gave me the chance to dive back into the Heart of the Wolf series. This is the fifteenth book in the series, but have no fear books can be read in any order. A delightful shifter holiday romance set in the Scottish highlands, featuring sexy wolf shifters in kilts.
📚A Highland Wolf Christmas introduces Calla Stewart and Guthrie MacNeill. Calla is an event planner. Ian and Julia MacNeill hired her to plan their first mated Christmas celebration. This means she has to convince Guthrie to loosen the pack's purse strings.
Prior to starting the job, she broke off her engagement, a decision which led to harassment by her ex-fiancée. The unending harassment led to the MacNeill clan assuming her protection. Her protective detail was headed by Guthrie. Not necessarily a bad thing, but Calla has been nurturing a crush for the scrooge like wolf shifter for a while.
Calla and Guthrie are perfect together. Despite their attraction to each other, they are hesitant to get close to each other. Calla is not the only one to have a disastrous romantic past. Guthrie also has his share of hurt and fears history repeating itself. However, when they finally let go of the past and acknowledge their feelings, they burnt up the pages.
I admired Calla’s dedication to her business and her family. Her fighting spirit and determination are also traits that add to her appeal. Guthrie has no issues protecting Calla. He will do so with his last breath.
The author created some suspenseful moments with Calla’s harassment by her ex. These moments were tense, which made me nervous for Calla.
📚A Highland Wolf Christmas is a fun paranormal holiday romance which will keep you entertained from start to finish. Witty, captivating, action packed, delightfully sexy and wonderful characters make 📚A Highland Wolf Christmas the perfect holiday read for fans of shifter romance.
Guthrie is the last unmarried quadruplets. Calla is his brother Cearnach's friend and the bride who jilted her fiance at the altar in A Highland Werewolf Wedding.
The Christmas settings were nice but the dithering by both H/h for 2/3 of the book got old.
It also seems as if the author had trouble explaining the desperation of the ex-fiance who kept stalking Calla. The ending seems forced.
This started out promising, almost as a suspenseful stalker ex trope (which I love), but even though that was indeed used throughout, it was such a light story that I feel the stalker ex was just added here and there when it was convenient. I mean, he was always in the background, but he only showed up when the plot needed forwarding, and when he did show up, he was all bluster until the very end.
I liked the hero/heroine and their romance.
Apparently at least one of the characters has to drive off into a ditch at least once per storm.
Everyone ends in a ditch. Not saying I don’t believe Scotland weather is that treacherous, because it can be, but this is a bit much.
I hated the whole wolves don’t have sex with other wolves unless they’re mating, because wolves mate forever. So what, either we have centuries old virgins, or they’re allowed to have sex with all the humans, but if they’re courting each other, no sexytimes unless mated? Neither one of those seems realistic? (yes, I know it’s a fictional world where I’m accepting werewolves as real, but you’re telling me that they live hundreds of years with only dry humping like awkward teenagers to satisfy their needs? Really?).
I realize that this is a series, a long-standing series at that, seeing as this is book #15. In fact I have some of Ms. Spear’s earlier books, but I don’t think you need to have read all of them, which is really nice. You see many of the previous couples but it’s not confusing and there’s no re-hashing of their stories.
This is a lighter read, but it should have stayed light. Either make it a romantic suspense, or make it a lighter Christmas read. I didn’t like it trying to be both.
That being said, the story did have some things going for it that I enjoyed. I liked seeing the interaction with so many characters, not just the hero and heroine and side characters when convenient. I liked the author’s sense of humor and the way she writes her characters. I loved the sense of Scotland that you get while you read. Ms. Spear really has a talent for bringing out the beauty of Scotland and showing it to the reader, instantly transporting you there.
I do think that if you’re for a paranormal romance with alpha wolves and stalker exes, this won’t necessarily satisfy you. It’s basically a contemporary romance where the characters turn into wolves sometimes. But if you prefer your paranormal on the lighter side, where it isn’t an all-encompassing world, then this might be for you.
What a delightful Scottish werewolf Christmas story!
Calla Stewart is a party planner. She has been hired by the MacNeill clan to arrange their holiday celebration, which means she will have to squeeze every dollar out of the tight wad Guthrie MacNeill. Even though she knows its going to be difficult to deal with Guthrie, Calla plans on giving the MacNeill clan a Christmas to remember.
But before Calla's journey even begins, her ex-fiance' turned deadly stalker accelerates his pursuit bringing out all the protective instincts of the MacNeill clan. Surprising Calla, leading her protection is none other than Guthrie, himself.
Highlander werewolves in kilts, what could be any better than that...
There is nothing like a marvelously captivating paranormal romance by Terry Spear's to get you in the holiday spirit. A Highland Wolf Christmas is a marvelously captivating story with a great reunion of past characters we've come to adore. I highly recommend you ring in the holidays with A Highland Wolf Christmas.
I received this ARC copy of A Highland Wolf Christmas from Sourcebooks Casablanca in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication October 7, 2014.
She was getting ready to attach a figure of a longhorn steer wearing a Christmas hat, compliments of Shelley's mother's Texas collection -- and thinking of how fun it was to see decoration from the various newcomers to the pack -- when she heard Guthrie shouting.
Deep, frustrated shouting. And cursing.
Claws scrambled on the stone floor, boots tromped at a run toward the great hall, and then disaster struck.
Women shrieked and shouted, but Calla was on the other side of the tree where she couldn't see the commotion. But then she saw the twelve-foot tree toppling over -- right toward her.
Before she could get out of the way, something hit her hard from the side and slammed her against the floor. Just before the tree landed on top of them. He was on top of her, smelling like the great outdoors, fir tree, and musky, sexy male wolf, Guthrie.
"Sorry," he mumbled against her ear, branches framing his head and touching the floor on either side of hers. "I meant to rescue you." She smiled. "From... the tree?
A HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS by Terry Spear is an highly entertaining trip back with the MacNeils' wolf pack in the Scottish Highlands at Christmastime. LOL! I love snow in books and this one has plenty of that white stuff complete with frosty snowball fights!
Even though it is the fifteenth book in Terry's Heart of the Wolf series and there are interconnected characters, this book can be fully enjoyed as a standalone if that is what you prefer. That said, I highly recommend reading all the books in this series as they are all delightful!
I love Terry's Highland wolves! This fun tale is the story of Guthrie MacNeill, the financial adviser for his clan, and Calla Stewart, a party planner. Guthrie has always been a dear to me - so I'm really glad he's finally wangled his own story.
It's back to the Highlands in Terry Spear's latest in her Heart of the Wolf Series. And as with the rest of her work, Terry tells a wicked tale. But her Highland Wolves are just a little more fun.
We've been skipping around between a couple of connected clans in the Heart if the Wolf Highland series and in A Highland Wolf Christmas, we return to the MacNeils. This time they have a party to plan.
Calla Stewart is a wolf on her own. After a disastrous romance that literally ended at the altar, Calla has focused on her party planning business. Everything is going great with the business but personally? Things are going a little bit differently. Suddenly said jilted betrothed has decided he wants her back. No matter what. The MacNeils have taken her under their collective wing, which means having a bodyguard where ever she goes. And the MacNeil that's taken on the job, sexy Guthrie MacNeil.
Guthrie MacNeill is the accountant for the clan. A bad investment that caused the clan to have to tighten their belts has left him wary of spending money. So when the clan decides to throw a major Christmas party, using Calla Stewart no less, Guthrie is determined to keep the expenses contained. But when Calls starts having trouble with the clan's nemesis Guthrie decides she might need hi s personal attention...*grins* wish I could get some of that attention... Calla had better beware because Guthrie is way more than a mere accountant.
Smoldering sensuality and Highland Highjinks makes this just a fun read. Add to that the mystery of why Calla is all but forced to consider the ex.. wonderful! Terry just offers us a delightful dish that I just want to eat up!
Thanks Terry for yet another Highland Delight.

This review is based on the ARC of A Highland Wolf Christmas, provided by netgalley and is scheduled for release on October 7, 2014
A HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS is a wonderfully sweet holiday romance stock full of kilted Scotsmen (well more like Scotswerewolves) who relish in sword fighting and castles with many a hidden nook to have your romantic trysts underneath a mistletoe. Both Calla and Guthrie are featured in previous book in this series so it was neat to finally see more of these two and learn about their lives. These books can be read as a standalone so Calla’s wedding debacle is very easily explained for those who are just starting the series out with this book.
The plot is well paced with some fun action scenes in it. Calla is a strong and independent business woman so naturally having Guthrie being her bodyguard leads to some annoyances on Calla’s part. My favorite fight scenes revolve around some hilarious hijinks Guthrie gets involved in at a few of Calla’s parties. I liked the little twist involving Calla’s ex as I spent most of the story thinking that his stalking was a simple case of being a jilted fiance who is just very obsessive about wanting her back.
Calla and Guthrie make an adorable couple and I kept rooting for these two to make up their minds already about their feelings for eachother. Both of them are reeling from their past relationships and have to come to terms with what they went through. They eventually work out their issues through some very playful and sweet flirting that eventually leads to much more.
HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS is a perfectly sexy Scottish werewolf romance that will get you into the Christmas spirit no matter what the season you read it in.
While this is #15 in Ms. Spear's Heart of the Wolf series, it can be read alone. Ms. Spear always trots previous characters through the books, which makes it fun, but not necessary to have read them before reading the next one.
We knew that Calla was at least somewhat interested in Guthrie after she hung his boxers on the flagpole in a previous book. She did catch his attention!
Guthrie is the money man for the pack. He really hates spending a shilling more than necessary. He figures that parties are pretty much a waste of their hard-earned money. But this is what Calla does, she plans parties! You can see that there is going to be some head butting. But then there is kissing, too! The first one was under an overturned Christmas tree, and they just get hotter afterward.
While I enjoyed their dancing close, then parting, we had to worry about an ex trying to get his girl back. Kept a bit of tension in the reading.
This was a fun read centered around Christmas. I highly recommend it.
*Thank you, NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book.
Terry Spear does it again with A HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS, book fifteen in her Heart of the Wolf Series.
Calla is an event planner who sorta has a crush on Guthrie MacNeill. While Guthrie is the clan financial adviser who is guarded about spending money. It would seem that they are totally different. They were wrong about that in a lot of ways. The author cleverly explored that aspect and as it turns out they were perfect for each other. Slowly we see that they both have some scars from past relationships. Calla has recently broke things off from a stubborn fiance who doesn't want to let her go. While Guthrie doesn't even realize yet how much he needs to heal from a bad breakup. So the road gets pretty bumpy for their relationship. The story moves along rather fast as events unfold that make Guthrie realize how easily he could lose his mate. Suddenly he makes the decision to let go of the past and claim what is his.
Finally, Guthrie MacNeill gets his own story. I've been waiting a while for this one. I have to say that Spear did not disappoint me. It's a sexy, fun to read book, and one that I enjoyed a lot. I really loved how the story evolved into a sweet romance for any time of the year. Works great as a stand alone novel, but really, why would anyone want to miss out on such a wonderful paranormal series. If you haven't tried it yet, then you might want to get on it right away. It's so good !
4.25 Hearts I enjoyed this story very much. I have read some of the series but not all of it but this certainly can be read as a stand alone you will just have the feeling that you missed the story of some of the background characters.
Cassie and Guthrie seem to be perfect for each other. We met Cassie in the last book and we knew she was meant for Guthrie when she stole his boxers for the pirate party the lass’ were having. And we knew there was a connection right then and there and boy is there. Cassie is just coming off of a broken engagement to a wolf she thinks she loved but once she is with Guthrie she wonders if she ever really loved the other wolf. But Baird is not letting her go and while it takes a while we learn why.
The connection that the brothers have is a wonderful back story as well. The closeness is something every family should have. I will say there is not a lot about Christmas in this story so if you are wanting a Holiday themed story this is really not it. But it is a sweet winter tale and one to enjoy if you enjoy the genre.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
If you are a fan of shifter romances, enjoy sweet romances set in the Highlands with strong Scottish men who also happen to be shifters, and set during the holiday season A Highland Wolf Christmas is definitely a need to read. Calla is strong willed character with the courage to branch out and start her own business. Calla won't let anything stand in her way, not even a crazy bully of an ex fiance who wants to keep her from moving forward with her life. Guthrie on the other hand is a sometimes frustrating alpha who's determined to not let a stubborn but intelligent she wolf get the better of him. There's sweet and steamy romance, fun characters, and a simple but complete story that drew me in and kept me engaged throughout. You can't really go wrong with a Terry Spear paranormal romance and A Highland Wolf Christmas delivers everything you need for an entertaining holiday read.
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
A Highland Werewolf Christmas by Terry Spear is the 15th book in her Heart of the Wolf series. This book focuses on Guthrie MacNeill and Calla Stewart. Calla recently left her fiancé at the altar and has gone to stay at the MacNeill castle for a couple weeks. Both Guthrie and Calla are on the rebound from previous relationships but they find themselves drawn and attracted to one another. I really enjoyed the banter between these two characters. Their romance is sexy, funny and sweet.
A Highland Werewolf Christmas is a fun and charming love story. I quite liked it. It’s a story you can easily sink into. It’s heartwarming with a bit of danger and suspense. The romance develops at a fairly quick pace but I still found it believable. All in all, A Highland Werewolf Christmas is a fun and entertaining read, great for the holidays. I would recommend it to fans of the series and anyone looking for a good holiday paranormal romance.
*ARC (Advanced Review Copy) received from the publisher, SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca.
I was rooting for Calla and Guthrie to make this work, I thought they would be the only one's to fight against just sexual chemistry and get to know each other. I was hoping that the mess with the ex would blow up into a huge mess with both packs fighting it out. Her ex was nuts but in his mind he really did care but I had a feeling that he'd lay hands on her just based off what Vardon did in the other story. I hated how the story turned to her troubles it made her look as though she was mating for the wrong reasons. I really wanted her to shock us and settle it with what was needed without even batting an eye. I'm still wondering what happened with the treasure's from the pirate's theft went. What was inside and did they make anything off of it. Then it's kind of mind boggling that with all the stories the characters are not way more financially set. With as many years as they've had they should be stacking money in all the castle walls. Good read but could've been a bit better with little changes.
4.5-4.75 Stars A delicious Scottish werewolf romance! The plot is fast-paced and the story keeps the readers' interest for the entire novel. The romance is playful and hot and I love the Christmas winter setting in Scotland. Both of the MCs are loveable, even as they recover from past wounds, as is the whole clan. Each one has a depth you don't always get in quick and easy reads. This book is part of a series, but like the other novels, you may read this one as a stand-alone (but go back and read the others if you haven't already). I look forward to the next one.
This isn't your ordinary Christmas story. Hoho ho !!!! It's better!!!!! You won't forget it. And Guthrie won't either. Did I mention Mistletoe and Mayham? Leg warmers and Kilts. Oh yeah!!!
After having reread "A Very Jaguar Christmas" this Christmas, I just had to read another one (or two) of Terry Spear's books and it had to be something Christmassy as well, of course. So I found "A Highland Wolf Christmas" and "Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas" and started to read - and didn't put my reader down till I had read them both.
I wasn't completely sure what to expect when I started to read "A Highland Wolf Christmas" because the blurb didn't sound that promising but, well, it was on sale, I knew the series and knew that I loved the other books and I was pretty sure that I'd like it because up to now, I really enjoyed every book by Terry Spear that I've read. In the end, the book was completely different from what I had expected after reading the blurb.
I had expected that the thing about money and the costs of the party would be a big part of the story but mostly it was Guthrie and Calla's shared love for spreadsheets and organization that comes up, rather something that they have in common than something that divides them. Even more important though, is the danger Calla is in due to her refusal to marry Baird as planned. With Guthrie and Calla falling in love, Baird being on the prowl and trying to get her back no matter how ...well, they certainly have a hard time of it and things will get much worse before they'll get a chance at their HEA.
As usual with Terry Spear's books, I really enjoyed reading this book. It was witty and captivating and I enjoyed every single page of it.
There has 2 b alot missing between this book and the 6th book like about Robert and his family from how it was left in this book and 6th book, and with the situation with Heather, etc. Heather was a single wolf then in the other 6th book there's a lot missing with her supposedly having a fiance and then he died, etc.?? A lot isn't adding up!! In this book Bierd deserves everything he got from what he caused and Callie deserves 2 b treasured and loved not lied 2 and used, etc. Guthrie is very good at finances and yet he finds a unique opportunity 2 find a mate in the unexpected person.
This is such a fun series, and Calla and Guthrie just add to the enjoyment! Poor Calla can't seem to shake her past loose while she and Guthrie both try to move forward. The clan shenanigans are great, as always, and the battles with desperate wolves are intriguing. And of course I love the HEA!
I wasn't able to read this in one sitting and while it was entertaining and full of holiday feeling it was just a nice read. Calla is being hounded by her ex who won't let her go and Guthrie starts off with a touch of Scrooge it quickly becomes apparent that isn't the case.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was delightful! Some niggles ruined the fun a bit for me (can our hero's clan really be that easy to slip past and slip away from?? geez lol) but I was thoroughly entertained.
Great book a must read I think with each book they get more intense I'm intrigued to read all of the books now almost finished with the highland wolf series whooooo...
Really loved this story, from the friends to lovers, brothers BF storyline to the wrapping up of previous issues. I really enjoyed the end of the book and reading about Scottish holiday traditions
A sexy, heartwarming holiday tale that will captivate you! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:
The best thing that party planner Calla, a wolf shifter, ever did was break up with her fiancé Baird, but he is not letting go. He is stalking her, using his brothers and cousins in his efforts to win her back. But Calla has seen his true colors and wants nothing to do with him. She lives in the carriage house behind her parents’ manor. With Christmas quickly approaching, Calla’s parents have suddenly taken off for a vacation in Ireland. Left alone, Calla worries about what Baird will do next since she has no protection now. Fortunately, the Grants, who have hired her to plan their Christmas celebration, have invited her to stay at their castle with their wolf pack and Calla jumps at the chance. But on the way there, in a fierce snowstorm, she runs off the road and encounters a trap that Baird has set for her.
Guthrie is the third from the oldest of the Grant quadruplets. Having survived a bad winter when there was little money or food, Guthrie, who takes care of the pack’s finances, watches every penny. He is determined that the pack will never endure another harsh winter without contingencies. With Calla descending upon them, Guthrie knows that she will be coming to him for money to pay for the frivolous items needed for his family’s festivities. Still he cannot deny his attraction to the sexy wolf or the feelings he has had for her for some time. Although his family encourages him to court her, he has already been through one relationship where the girl was on the rebound and he had been hurt. He doesn’t plan on a repeat performance with Calla, who has just broken off her engagement.
But even as he tries to curtail the spending for the party, he cannot stand by while there is a real threat to Calla. Becoming a significant part of the guard that the MacNeills have provided for her, accompanying her wherever she goes, Guthries’ feelings for her deepen. Will the holidays see them mated, and will Guthrie discover that there just might be something more important than money?
A heartwarming holiday tale, A HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS, the fifteenth book in USA Today bestselling author Terry Spear’s HEART OF THE WOLF series, is a witty, passionate paranormal romance that will lift your spirits. The sexual tension between Guthrie and Calla is evident, although they seem more like friends in the beginning. They have each had bad relationships in the past, but being together so much brings up some of the feelings that have existed between them. Their respect for each other and friendship, in addition to the heated sparks flying between them, only strengthens their love for each other.
Plenty of action, humor, sexy wolves, danger, smoldering sensuality, Christmas magic, snowball fights, sweet romance and true love, all in the Scottish Highlands, provides readers with a must read tale that is sure to be a favorite all year long. An amazingly gifted storyteller, Ms. Spear brings her sexy wolves to vibrant life, providing readers with unforgettable stories that they will want to read again and again. Although A HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS can be read as a standalone, I have found it nearly impossible to stop at just one of Ms. Spear’s wonderful HEART OF THE WOLF tales. Fans of this series will delight in being reunited with many of the characters from the previous books, an aspect of series’ romances that I particularly enjoy. Pick up a copy of this book and lose yourself in Ms. Spear’s entertaining world of Highland wolves! I am sure that, like me, you will be back for more!
It took some time but finally the heroine realized that the man she loved and planned to marry was nothing better than a selfish controlling asshole who didn't deserve her. But apparently informing him that they were over and the wedding was cancelled doesn't compute because he's now constantly hounding her about taking him back.
To escape the stalking, she's taken a job as a party planner for the McNeil werewolf pack's Christmas celebration. Surrounded by a functioning pack who consider themselves family and include her in their ranks with ease and open arms, the heroine finally feels like she belongs. It doesn't hurt things to be surrounded by sexy male wolves and the sexiest of all, the brother to the alpha and the man who's responsible for the pack finances.
The hero himself just out of a bad relationship where the woman he loved dumped him for her ex leaving him rather broken heart. So despite how attracted he is to the heroine, it's no surprise how hesitant he is about courting her. What if she's treating him like another rebound and someone to get rid of when the ex comes back into the picture? But almost instantly he realizes that she isn't like that. Her ex is much more of a threat to her safety and well being as he constantly hounds her and stalks her to all her parties making threats.
When it comes to light that he loaned her parents a ton of money without the packs knowing, the heroine is stuck in the position of trying to get him the money somehow so that he'll stop bothering her and move on with him life. At this point the hero and her can no longer fight the compulsion between them and they becomes mates and engaged to be married.
The hero's pack gives her the money much to the heroine's shame. But nothing is ever that simple when dealing with a mad man and the hero realizes that it's finally time to put and end to the ex's abuse once and for all.
I was hesitate to read this book because I know exactly how much I'm going to dislike the story and as much as I'd like to break tradition and say I found this one tolerable, alas it was yet another stinker.
I couldn't for the life of me imagine what the hell the story was supposed to be about. Yes there's the ex boyfriend. Yes there's the hero and heroine's half assed attempt to deny their emotions. But the whole book was a dull, lifeless tale about...money? Nothing of any substance happened. The chemistry between the two characters was dull and boring.
The plot was lazy and uninspired and most of all the werewolf traits that I usually adored were completely absent. These shifters have completely lost their animal nature and have become pussies. Honestly, it takes weeks for the ex to finally push the hero to action and even then he showed no true fury or rage over how his mate had been treated.
An alpha male would have hunted him down the first chance he got and took care of business but the hero was too busy worrying about the heroine's spending and crunching numbers. Come on dude!
Also a major problem I have with this series, besides the reasons listed about, is the completely non magical tradition of mating. Two people are not subject to the nature of their wolves to spend the rest of their lives together but rather it's a choice to whom one takes as a mate. Granted this probably more realistic but I crave the passion and the conflict of when two people just can't stop the magic between them.
Boring lifeless story about nothing at all. Safe to say I suggest you skip this book.
