At the age of 31, Emma and Sonia discover that Emma has cancer of the liver. They decide to tackle the illness together certain that Emma will survive. Told through the eyes and emotions of Sonia, the friend who would move mountains for Emma, this is a loving account of Emma's battle and it's effect on her family and friends. This is a book reveals a story of immense courage and love. It has a tragic end, but leaves the reader with a feeling of respect for Emma's strength and honesty, and a new understanding of mortality.
This was not easy to read - an honest and raw insight of how cancer affects the sufferer, and those that love them. Cancer is brutal and there are no punches pulled. We lose too many - and far too young.
In awe of how raw and vulnerable Sonia was. No sugar-coating when talking about Emma’s condition. This was an authentic insight into how confronting and debilitating it was to watch her best friend slowly lose her physical beauty, her sharp mind, and ultimately her life. I was a toddler like Noah when my family was touched by cancer. I never put much thought into how difficult the lead up to death must have been for the adults in my life. This memoir was an eye opener. It was an honour to read this beautiful yet devastating story.
What a beautifully written and honest memoir. Scary that Emma was only 31 and for Sonia to have to deal with the loss of her beautiful best friend and witnessing the devastation of cancer at such a young age.
what a beautifully written book, insightful, emotive, raw, confronting and a thought provoking piece, from all sides of the cancer spectrum. Thank you Sonia for ever so bravely telling us your story.
