This book combines national history with local (Wisconsin) lore. Some of the content becomes a bit repetitious, yet each individual account captures some distinctive, memorable detail. Overall, credit the author with painstaking research and writing. Wisconsin residents should read this book; any American with ties to WW II should read it; anyone with the desire to acquire more appreciation for our veterans must read it.

I thought this was well put together, and it helped me to see WWII more realistically because it was actual experiences of veterans. I also couldn't help but keep thinking how beneficial including something like this would be during the teaching of WWII.
