Sarah travels out west with her father, who is a General in the Union Army. She is bored with her life in Washington, DC since all of the men are away fighting in the war between the states. Her father has spoiled her and can't say no when she decides to come along with him to tour some forts out west. The travels are much harder than she thought they would be but she refuses to go home. For the last few years she has been having dreams that come true. She keeps dreaming of a man with dark eyes and a handsome face.
Night Hawk is a Cheyenne chief visiting Fort Laramie to do some trading. He sees Sarah as she is coming into the fort and is instantly captivated by her red hair and bright blue eyes. Sarah is shaken when she sees Night Hawk because he is the man she has been dreaming of for months.
Night Hawk feels that she is the woman destined to be his, so he and his warriors kidnap Sarah from the fort. He names her Flame for her bright red hair and expects her to come to terms with her new life among the Cheyenne. The rest of the story follows Flame as she adjusts from life as a spoiled girl to life with the Cheyenne as the wife of Night Hawk. Night Hawk is a fierce warrior but falls hard for his Flame, just as Flame comes to love Night Hawk with all her heart so that she gladly gives up her old life to be with her love. They build a life together and overcome many difficulties as the story follows their life for the next few years and shows their love strengthening with time and hardship.
I enjoyed this Native American historical romance. I like the 1860's setting with the Cheyenne because the book shows their way of life before it was destroyed when they were put on reservations. I enjoyed both Flame and Night Hawk and thought their love story was beautiful.

I really wanted to like this book and I did for the most part but the one and only problem I had with it was that Sarah/Flame (h) had visions in her dreams and that's just not my cuppa. The story had touched on it in the beginning of the book and I had hoped that it would be just a light theme through out. And it was until about half way through then the author just leaves off from Night Hawlk and Flame's relationship, how she's coping with the tribe and captivity and just focuses on her dreams. It was one example after another, after she escapes with a trapper she falls asleep in his wagon and starts to dream. In the dream she's able to rob the trapper of his thoughts and instanly know who had set her up with the trapper, that he intends to rape her and then sell her to another tribe and that he will die soon after, so of course she needs to escape him as soon as she wakes up (eye roll). Then she dreams her friend in the villiage needs her help during the birth of her child or else the child would die, she dreams of her own child being born safe and sound so no need for her to worry about that. She dreams that other warriors will walk into a trap and is able to stop them, saving many lives. There was some missing sacred arrows so she went to sleep and dreamed where they were and was able to save the entire Cheyenne nation (major eye roll).
I would say that there was about 200 pages of Night Hawlk and Sarah/Flames story and that was really good but there was another 280 pages of dreams that I just could stand.

Set in the mid 19th century in Wyoming, this is the story of Sarah Wise, the spoiled Southern belle daughter of General Wise, who indulged his only child. So when she asked to go into the West with him and his men, he finally agreed. And so begins the tale of Sarah’s new life.
As they move deeper into the frontier, Sarah begins to change, as she must accept hardships of the road. She dare not complain, as it was she who insisted on coming along.

Hart kept me on the edge of my seat reading all that happens to Sarah and the Cheyenne over the next few years. There are many twists and turns as Sarah makes a new life among the Cheyenne, tries to escape, discovers her gift of dreams makes her a “Dreamer” to the Cheyenne and greatly prized. She grows up and falls in love with her respected Cheyenne warrior husband. And Night Hawk never flags in his love for her, save for when she tries to escape and he believes she has betrayed him.
Hart’s deep research into the Cheyenne people comes through as we experience all that it means to live among them. She brings the era to life and adventure to the page. I highly recommend this story!

This bodice ripper “swept me away” and captivated me. It was one of the better Native American white captive-NA captor romance.
Did not enjoy the h turning into a dream psychic mid way though, I thought this aspect took away from the plot, and made the story drag.

No love scenes with op.
There is violence.
No rape, but it’s a captive captor situation.🤷🏻♀️
Ow om drama, yes. Lots in th beginning.
He is married to his brothers plain wife.
It is tradition for one brother to marry his brothers wife in case of one’s death, as was the case here.
They lived in the same tipi, she is preg with his brothers child, but he has never touched her.
Ow/wife is a plain Jane, so he isn’t attracted to her.
The ow is obsessed with the H though, and is crazy jealous of the MCs relationship. She’s the evil ow in this story.😂
-the h became his 2nd wife, and they all shared 1 tipi together. I loved the angst lol.

I was at the used bookstore and this book caught my eye. Boy that looks familiar. Read the back and the teaser. This sounds really familiar. Flipped to about where I remembered a certain scene..Yep I read this one way back in college. It was one of my favorites, and I had actually been looking for it but couldn't remember the title or author.
I reread it last night and it was just as good as it was 20 years ago. Now to not lose it this time.

I'm pretty sure that this is my first read by Catherine Hart, and I must say that I am NOT disappointed! Long-ish though this book is, it never bores, and by the end you really do support the characters' romance wholeheartedly!

As the story begins, we get that Sarah Wise is bored. Like...bored. So...okay, it turns out that she keeps having psychic dreams, and her most recent one is of a mysterious man who makes her feel things she hasn't felt before, etc. Anyway, what does this demand? Why, a bit of adventure, of course! In this case, to go out West with her father, who's a general, and explore the country instead of staying home in her dull society life.
*chuckles* Boy, oh boy...
Ahem, fast-forward a few months into Sarah's complaining and she meets the man from her dreams: Night Hawk, a young Cheyenne chief. He falls for her instantly and must claim her as his own, and so he abducts her and takes her to his camp. Night Hawk himself is sweetness and peaches to Sarah; but, unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Little Rabbit, Night Hawk's wife--er, but not really, cause he only took over caring for her since she was his dead brother's life and she's pregnant with his nephew, but Night Hawk never slept with her or anything, so it's not a love triangle or anything, thank God!
Anyways, the story progresses through trials and difficulties for the couple, but they always come through at the end! There's some minor violence, but no rape, no cheating, and nothing that makes me at all object to this couple or not support them. All in all, I'd say that this leaves me with a very satisfying romance! *sighs romantically*
Definitely a re-read someday, for sure! (And such a dreamy cover! <3)

I loved this book so much I have Read it 4 - time's. I loved how Night Hawk kidnapped Sarah from a army base... And how he learned that she knew sign language and that is how he was able to teach her to speak Cheyenne. Also I love how Sarah says no I am not Flame my name is Sarah take me back my father is a general I will not be happy with you and then Night Hawk tells her that if the great spirit wishes them to be together nothing can stop that...💗 THIS BOOK is filled with exciting twist and turns and very passionate love scenes between Night Hawk and Flame... As always Catherine Hart did a wonderful job on this book ❣️

This books is only slightly better then a few other historical romance books I've read, it uses less of the word Indian, which should be native, but still uses it. I e read others where they pepper that word in for natives every sentence. The romance is nice id say it's not the worst, still I classify this as a white savior book or apart of a group of books I know would never be published today for it's words and uses.

i’m suprised i loved this as much as i did. but i fucking lovedddd it!!!! night hawk was so fucking cute i loved the story line i loved their cute little family. the twist and turns never stopped coming and i loved ever page 10 out of 10 🌶️

A gripping tale, and I really did enjoy it for the most part. The historical snippets were good ... I love the tribal history of Native Americans and a story woven around it. The two lead characters, Flame (a.k.a. Sarah Wise) and Night Hawk, were very endearing, well-layered, and their development through the story was also very well done. In fact, up to the first half of the novel, I was sure I was going to give this book a 4- or 5-star rating. Unfortunately, in the second half of the story, it started to decline a little. The psychic element of the heroine wasn't all that believable. At times, in fact, it seemed too contrived, as if the author conjured up her visions to cut corners with the resolution of her plot. It even took on a major role in the plot. I wasn't too happy about that, so it did detract a little from the overall enjoyment. Still, it was a great story in spite of that little 'flaw' and I enjoyed the book very much.

Cover aside, this was a great read! I had doubts at first because I never finished Silken Savage because it was too unbelievable- the heroine was too perfect at everything and didn't mind being captured etc. but I had this one in my closet and decided to give it a try because I love this genre. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It's not the best I've ever read with this theme, but it kept me intrigued and some parts even dying to know what would happen next. I think it got better as it went on but all in all I was very entertained and fell in love with this couple. Night hawk was a tough one at first but he did as much growing as flame did so in the end I couldn't complain too much! Highly recommended for historical romance lovers and readers of Native American romance.

Not sure what to say about the 470 page Night Flame. The basic premise was a good one, but parts were just too fantastical (such as the psychic heroine, who had a lot of convenient visions). I'm not going to go into it (almost never do!), but if you are looking for NA romance that has some historical accuracy or detail, this probably won't be your thing.
