Astoria was never a fan of Hermione Granger, but pretty soon, she would be gone, and Draco was going to need all the help he could get. Rated M for future chapters. Words: 313,160 complete
It started really well and I was quite invested in the story. However, the 10 year time jump and multiple other POVs other than Draco and Hermione didn't really work for me and my attention to the story... waned. I did manage to finish it but the last 10 or so chapters of 39 were kind of like a chore and I did actually consider DNFing. Not because I hated the story, but because I simply... wasn't interested as at first.
it would have been 4 stars but it just drug on ridiculously longer than it needed to. it was fully 2 books. one that was great and one that was fully alright just lengthy ...
Have you ever seen a movie and thought "This is too much. They really needed to make this a series" That was this book. The concept for great but there was way too much going on. Draco and Hermione were written really well in it but the author jumped from POV to POV over SEVERAL characters, all with their own side stories, that the crux, Dramione was only lightly touched on.
The writing, could have also been better and since it was written over ten years ago, I'd love to see Redhead come back and do a rewrite on this one because it has/had so much potential. For example, I would have loved more on Claire's life but that needed to be it's own story. I would have loved to see where Katie's magic took her too. Again, needs it's own story. This one here would have kept my attention more had it been just Draco/Hermione not a 100 cast character of jumping from one scene to the next.
There were also some immature writing in the fic. The use of "going mental" "being mental" was juvenile and dated the fic. So I'm going to assume the author was quite young when she wrote this one.
I can't believe this took me 6 days to read. And I kept at it. I didn't stray or read something else. Less is more sometimes.
Usually I wouldn’t log a fanfic to my goodreads, but I read 300k words and that deserves to be acknowledged. Though I’m a multishipper who doesn’t usually read Dramione, this was decent at the beginning. I could almost pretend like they were original characters. I liked the writing style enough at first, but I wish it had been more developed. It wouldn’t have dragged in the last ten chapters if the style was cohesive. I also think it should’ve ended before the time skip. The marriage plot would’ve been better if it had been earlier.
The sexual assault/harassment plot was poorly done, glossed over, and completely unnecessary. That plot took it down to 1/5 for me. SA should never be a plot device. The SA plot line became even more sickening when Claire changed the way she dressed because of it and everyone called her mature instead of recognizing that she was less confident/felt ashamed of her body. Not only was it handled poorly, the other characters didn’t acknowledge it as the traumatic and damaging experience that it truly is. Everything after that was soured. I finished this to finish it, not because I cared.

I had fun reading this, and it was beautiful. I always thought Draco would have a big family with Hermione. The family dynamics in this one probably topped everything else.
