Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.

Many submissions and rejections followed.

In 1998, she sold to a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.

In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. She went on to write 21 novels and novellas in that series, then wrote three other series for Kensington before moving to St. Martin's Press.

She has two series with SMP--The Intimate Relations series complete with three novels and one novella of romantic suspense set in California's wine country, and an erotic paranormal series, Feral Passions, set in California's Trinity Alps.

She is also continuing her Spirit Wild series, the sequel to Wolf Tales, independently.

Kate and her husband of over forty-five years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.

Oh my word. It's not often it happens but I was seriously yelling at my book "Okay! OKAY! Yall need to stop fucking. Stop it! Put that cock down! You've had enough! How can you even walk? Aren't you chaffing?! Just...stop with the cocks!"

There was so much sex.

Heroine #1 and random college guy
Hero #1 and Heroine #2

Hero #1 and Heroine #1
--as humans
--as wolves
--as pumas

Heroine #2 and Hero #2
--as humans
--as wolves
--as a human and a wolf

Hero #1 and Hero #2
Heroine #1, Hero #1, Heroine #2, Hero #2
Hero #1 and Heroine #2 while the others watch
Hero #2, Heroine #1

Seriously oh my god stop fucking. It was like a game of musical naughty bits for 85% of a book that ended at 92%.

I was done.

The Gist: Hero #1 was there when Heroine #1 was born. He's her Spirit Guide but they've been apart because she ran away at 17 (and stayed away) after he turned down her advances. But now she's grown and ready to make him fuck her. Then Heroine #2 (Hero #1's long time fuck buddy) stumbles across a new comer who turns out to be her "one". Much sex ensues.

I do enjoy a fuck fest now and again. But, I think I've outgrown Douglas. I used to love these but this was just a non stop run of the mill sex scene sprinkled with jabs at men being inferior and apologizing, unremarkable characters, some half assed suspense briefly tossed in around 72% and things being neatly tied up by "the Mother" (their version of God).

There's amazing erotica out there (not to be confused with erotic romance) but Dark Moon was not it. It was a relief to be done with this one. I won't be reading any more from Douglas that's for sure.

This one was okay for me. I liked the beginning and the chemistry between the characters was there. However, I wasn't really interested in the plot or Sunny's point of view. Quick and hot read with shapeshifters.

Dark Moon is an erotic romp with a side of paranormal adventure. The story was very interesting and the numerous sexual encounters are very naughty and blazing hot. Although it is highlighted as Igmutaka and Mikaela's story it is also Sunny and Fen's story with some m/m action to boot. For me, I would of enjoyed more focus on the original and very intriguing story line and less limelight on the sex. Dark Moon is packed full of shape shifter combustible sexual encounters, interesting lure and hot but vulnerable alpha males.

I received this ARC copy of Dark Moon from Kensington Books in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication January 28, 2014.

Spirit Wild Series Rocks

I would have chosen 5 stars but.... The characters in this story become even more real than even in the others in this series. Who would have thought to bring 4 people together to make a whole! Kate Douglas of course!! The surprise is the erotic connection w/the plot is solid and quite frankly stunning! I definitely recommend this book!

Dark Moon, Spirit Wild Series

As a follower of the Chanku and of author Kate Douglas, I was pleased and very happy to finally get to read Igmutaka and Stars story. And for Sunny to have her mate after all these years. It was amazing and heartfelt. I, myself, would have never expected a four person mating bond! I loved the three mates, AJ, Mik and Tala. They were and are one of my favorite mated Chanku stories. Ah heck who am I kidding I love them all.

Kate writes her stories with such passion. I have laughed and cried in most of them and felt like I was there, my heart pounding and nail biting through all of their trials and dangers.
Yes the stories are erotic, the Chanku are sexual beings. And even though its HOT! Its not about the sex its about the story and the life long connections they make, the family connections,
the devotion to their pack mates and the friendships and bonds they forge.

Dark Moon is another adaptation of all the above. Ig was there, actually caught Mikaela Star when she was born. Watched her grow, mentored her and drove her slap crazy. Finally, after many many years apart Star realizes that she was wrong, but really was she? she needs space to grow and in doing that she broke his heart. Sunny has no mate. She and Ig are very close but they both know and understand that even though they love each other that they are not mates. Something really sad happens and Sunny knows that her mate is near and wow! when they find each other! ( I am not giving it away )

More danger is around the corner, Both the Mother and the Goddess Eve have warned them. Will the Chanku ever be safe from humans? I guess we'll find out! I for one can't wait.

I loved it! HIGH FIVE to Kate Douglas!

If you've read the Wolf Tales series, by our own personal goddess Kate Douglas, then you know who Ig is and you know who Star is. It's the story that naturally we all knew was coming, but the impact of this one has left me shaking in my skin wondering how can she top this... I mean sure that's always the thought but with this I really have to wonder. And almost as if to answer that she also gives us Sunny Daye and Fen's story. I'm really going to have to stop wondering how she will top this one and wonder when I'll be able to read whatever she has for us next.

Another amazing tale in the Chanku world

Love how Kate intertwines the lives of her Chanku characters. I look forward to seeing the what lies ahead for these characters as other pack members find their mates. I will say I expected a little more angst before Star and Igmutaka became mates especially since she has been away for so long. it was a truly enjoyable tale.

Kate Douglas’s Dark series is a masterful blend of new stories, twists on werewolf legend, and updates on our favorite characters from her Wolf Tales series. I’m a big fan of Wolf Tales so I was thrilled with the concept of this series. It is the next generation of werewolves all grown up. I get updates on my favorite characters without info-dumping the old series. For example, in Dark Moon Tinker flies the helicopter so we get an update on him but not his whole backstory. So smart.

Fenris is our swoon-worthy hero number one. He has the mixture of brute strength and marshmallow insides that make him instantly likable. I love the twists on his journey to living with the Chanku – even though he isn’t completely Chanku (sorry no spoilers). The way he meets Sunny and the pack is unique to his story. While her reaction wasn’t quite believable (she wasn’t mad enough in my opinion), his dilemma of having to prove his character was fun to read – only because he has a heart of gold. His adjustment to the pack life only takes forty-eight hours from finding Sunny to going on his first mission which was jarring as a reader. However, he remarks on the time frame and makes the break-neck pace credible. Masterfully written.

Douglas brings back Igmutaka (and his Louisville Slugger) as hero number two. Fans of the series will love the continuation of his story with Star (Mik, Tala, and AJ’s daughter) but new fans will have enough of the backstory to keep up with this book. Igmutaka is also on the fringes of Chanku with his status as a puma shifter and spirit guide to Star. I loved reading about his torn loyalties between his spiritual duties and his forbidden feelings for Star. Star is the prickly character of the group, but Ig described her in such poetic terms, he won me over. I was rooting for them to get together from page one, even though he had chemistry with Sunny. Ig even had more chemistry with Fen than Star. Thank goodness they are Chanku where jealousy doesn’t exist, and groups often tussle between the sheets.

Overall, this is an extremely hot book of four individuals coming together through divine intervention. It has real-world action, fantasy elements, and swoon-worthy heartthrobs. I look forward to the next installment of this series.

Dark Moon wasn’t exactly a bad read, although I admit I found myself skimming the sex scenes. I was expecting a little more story and less creatively descriptive sex. And yes, I do realize this is paranormal erotica, but there can still be a good balance between sex and plot.

If you like a lot of sex and less story this would fit the bill.

Dark Moon is book two in Kate Douglas' Dark Series (my name for this particular series) it is a spin off from her hugely successful Chanku Series. Ms Douglas writes a wonderful erotic story. Understand this.. there is lots and lots of sex in this book. If you are not into extreme sex (and I don't mean BDSM just lots of it) then this is not the book for you. If you don't enjoy that aspect but can look past it, this is a great series with fantastic characters and plenty of mysticism and well good vs. evil.

This book revolves around two couples, well four individuals. Four people connected by pack, birth, friendship and love..

Igmutaka has been a spirit guide longer than recorded time. He has been there for one lineage, father to son back to the annals of their conception. And yet when his last charge fathered a daughter, Ig's world changed. Instantly in love with the child he "caught" upon delivery Ig was first her guide then as time passed he fell in love. Only Mikela Star Fuentes was still a child and Ig, knew that his feelings were wrong. She was his charge!

Mikela Star Fuentes, first daughter in her line.. she has loved Ig as far back as she can remember. And as a teen she wanted to be free to express that love but Ig kept holding back. Instead of guiding her he layed constriction after constriction on her. Never realizing it was because he loved her, she fled her pack, her family and her way of life. Instead choosing to live as a pure human and work on various degrees. Now fourteen years later, a bachelors and two doctorates behind her, Mikela wants to go home. Face the man who is it for her and have it out once and for all.

Sunny Daye, was abused as a child to the point where mid shift altered her and for years lived a life as a mute invalid. Once she was discovered and allowed to live her life as a Chanku, she thrived. Now a strong independent woman she has been Ig's lover for decades but they both know that their love is that of friends not mates. Each of them is waiting for their mate to enter their lives.

Fen was born a wolf but shifted as a child and lived the rest of his life as a human. He honestly thought he was an aberration.. Chanku are born human and shift into animals NOT the other way around. Orphaned as a young pup and raised by the man who killed his mother (the wolf) Fen has committed his life to caring for the wolves in the wild. Now a national parks ranger he finally stumbles into a world where he fits.

These four individuals are connected in so many ways.. Even Fen has a mysterious connection to Ig.. life just gets more and more interesting.

Aside from their intense and steamy physical connections each of these people are committed to protecting pack. To working within the system to ensure that the Chanku are accepted in the human world.

They are a strongly spiritual people and even manage to confer on a regular basis with their goddess..

This is a well written book about a species other than human. They are an extremely sexual people and because they aren't "human" the reader can often just accept the intense and ofttimes steamy loves scenes. But even then.. there is more than just couple sex here. Man/man, group, female/female.. a bit of it all. And yet because of the story and the nature of the characters it's not offensive.. just intense.

Sometimes I wish for a little less sex because the story is just that good... of course that's just me. The sex isn't porn, it works with the characters and the story but I honestly feel a reader needs to be prepared.

Another winner from Kate Douglas! I was quite pleased with the outcome for this group of characters. I felt that their lives had purpose and the continuity with the overall arc of the series was extremely well done!

Check it out... if you dare *grins*

Can there be too much sex? Yes, Dark Moon is more erotica than erotic and the story is lost.

I love a good erotic romance. Throw in some paranormal elements and I’m even happier. When I received Kate Douglas’ Dark Moon (Spirit Wild Book Two) for review from her publisher, I was aware that it would have adult content. Knowing it was the second book in a series, I tracked down Dark Wolf (Spirit Wild Book One) to read first.

I really, really enjoyed Dark Wolf. I’d never read Douglas’ paranormal romances about the shapeshifting Chanku, so this was a totally new world to me. Both the romance between the two main characters (Lily and Sebastian) and the suspense-filled story as they track down a rapist-murderer was engrossing. I was surprised to find that “adult” in this case meant not just pretty explicit sex scenes, but foursomes. However it was all handled naturally within the story and never felt like it was sex for just the sake of titillation.

That said, I can’t make the same statement about book two, Dark Moon. Igmutaka, a Chanku Spirit Guide, and his former charge Star get together as well as Igmutaka’s lover Sunny and her new found mate. Then they all get together and have sex - and have a lot of sex. As Igmutaka says at one point, it’s not that they're bisexual or homosexual - the Chanku are just sexual. Yes, got that.

And my problem with the book two isn’t the Chanku sexuality, I enjoyed it in book one, but the fact that the story of Dark Moon seemed to take a back seat to the sex scenes. This, in my opinion, moved this book from the “erotic” to the “erotica” shelf.

As a dear friend said, who loved 50 Shades of Grey Trilogy, “I just started skipping the sex scenes. When you’ve read one, you’ve read them all.”

I burst into laughter at her statement, but do admit that when sex seems to dominate the story, I’ll start skipping pages. I know authors spend a great deal of time writing these scenes, and for most, I won’t skip. But when it’s just sex? Or when it all starts to sound and look the same? The pages of the Kindle just fly by pretty much unread till the "story" recommences.

In all honesty, I have to say that the pages Dark Moon flew by at an alarming rate. There is a sub story to the sex scenes that deals with another set of related killers to those from the first book who are preying once again on the Chanku. But it seemed such an afterthought that I barely realized it was there.

Now, my ultimate test for a book. Would I read this again? No. Would I recommend it to a friend. Well that depends. It’s well written and if my friend likes paranormal erotica - absolutely. It’s just not to my own personal taste. Frankly, I think I was most disappointed as I had really enjoyed Dark Wolf: 1 (Spirit Wild Book One) and wanted to know more about the Chanku. I didn’t feel the second book really elucidated that much.

Would I read other books in this series? Absolutely! In fact, I would like to go back and read the earlier series that dealt with many of the characters who serve as parents to this generation of Chanku. In addition, Douglas has just published another title in this series, Dark Spirit (Spirit Wild Book Three), that I’m curious about.

There is this really simple, but apt phrase “Less is more” that seems to be what should have been the theme when this book was written. In every single area. There are so many things that I didn’t like and was so out there and over the top about this that it is going to be hard following my own advice.

A huge issue for me was the concept of the sexual culture in this world. I really do love a great steamy book, in all kinds of various combinations. The one thing that I feel I must have to really feel those are truly good, steamy stories, though, is that the intimacy has emotional depth and reason other than just being horny (at least with the truly connected characters) and doesn’t come across as so completely casual, random and meaningless that I feel as though I’ve been tossed into the middle of a swingers party. This was sadly the latter situation. I’m not sure I want to even share my thoughts on the ick factor of the person to animal, absolutely non-steamy sexy parts that got dropped into this. There are some lines that just should never be crossed. This book vaulted over that line and ran for the hills.

There was not a lot of thought or creative effort put forth to really rationalize multipartner relationships and make them believable. Sorry, but it is kind of cutting creative corners to explain away how you can get 4 near strangers to suddenly be in a committed relationship just by saying it is fate and they are all mates. The mate thing sort of works when you are talking shifter stories, but even then, most of the time I connect way better when the authors build beyond fate and because you are mates and actually have their characters form real connections beyond or outside of those cliched rules. Toss in more than just two people and it is beyond over the top. Creativity is part of what makes a story great but this is missing it.

I’ve read an awful lot of really awesome, kick ass shifter stories. Some are even near the top of my favorites list. This didn’t even come into the ballpark. There are so many parts to this supposed shifter world that it feels so totally haphazard and jumbled that I couldn’t even come close to believing any of it. It brought to mind a painter who loves color and tossed every single color and dab of paint from his pallet, his stash and all the paint that could be bought at the local art store on a 4″ x 4″ canvas and instead of something lovely and moving, he is left with a giant blob of dirt brown.

I felt absolutely no connection to any of the characters in this book. What little interest they may have had got stomped on as soon as they started interacting with anyone else and they suddenly became dull, hormonal porn star extras. Even the story line felt crammed in there in an effort to say that there was one outside of the erotic parts of the story, which again were just not all that interesting in the first place.

Even with the “Less is more” idea, I don’t know that this would have been fixable in my opinion. I just really did not like a thing about this book. Knowing that this is book 3 in the series, I’m extremely glad I haven’t read any of the others and have no intention of picking any of them up after reading this one.

Dark Moon is the long awaited story of three favorite and beloved characters. Igmutaka, ancient spirit guide the Fuentes family line. Mikaela Star Fuetes, the first female charge of Igmutaka and daughter to Tala, AJ and Miguel. And finally a character that is amazing in her strength and determination, Sunny Daye. She was once a crippled mute woman and now she is a strong and adoring lover and friend to Igmutaka and Star. Characters that have always intrigued me and pulled at my heartstrings are finally having their tales told and what a lovely story it is.

Star and Igmutaka have always had a special connection and I enjoyed how they finally decided that fourteen years apart was long enough and they put everything out front; no matter the consequences. Star is tired of running from her love of Ig and she is traveling home to be reunited with her family and pack. She has loved him forever and either he returns her love or she needs to move on. Unknown to her, Ig has loved her too. Now is the time to claim her. He only hopes that she can love him as much as he loves her. There is nothing like two head strong people finally realizing they are perfect for each other.

While Star has been away from the pack, Sunny has been a confidant and lover to Igmutaka. She always knew that he was not for her, but a very special connection brought them together repeatedly. But Igmutaka has news for Sunny that her mate is on his way. Sunny wants nothing more in the world and can’t wait.

Fen Ahlberg is a lonely man who always felt apart from the world. From his first disastrous meeting of Sunny, you can’t help but feel even more for the big man. Their attraction is instantaneous, but considering the setting of their first encounter…it is inevitable and powerful. There love is quick and action packed, but still holds a certain sweetness.

I loved how Ms. Douglas interweaved the two couples blossoming romances. But she doesn’t stop there. She throws in a special twist that I could feel coming, but was unsure how it would unfold. Without giving too much away, let’s just say it’s a first in the long history of the Chanku series. Oh sweet heaven is it exciting!

The only reason this novel doesn’t get my complete and undying love of 5 hearts is because the antagonist of the story fell short for me. While the plot for the story was required, I think the storyline was rushed and could have held more angst and drama to the story if it would have been expanded. Space and time may have been factors to the shorten scenario since the novel does encompass two couples. All-in-all it is a small problem, I still loved the story and couldn’t put it down.

Dark Moon is a very enjoyable read that demonstrates that destined love never dies but just gets stronger. Time and obstacles will never keep apart what is meant to be. Ms. Douglas has written a beautiful story of love and destiny and shouldn’t be missed if you love her amazing voice and her incredible Chanku’s.

Dark Refuge

My Review of "Dark Moon":

This book contains adult content and strong language not recommended for those under the age of 18.

Dark Moon is the third book in the Spirit Wild series. It has very explicit detailed sexual scenes that involves two, three and even four partners. There is a plot involved but it take a back seat to the coming together of Ig, Lilly, Sunny and Fen. Ms. Douglas sorts it all out in the end to the readers satisfaction, but I still felt the story was more about the sex scenes and less about the threat to the wolves and Chanuku pack. I don't mind erotic romance, but when it starts to become all about the sex I quickly loose interest. I must have skimmed over a third of the book.

When "Dark Moon was about the plot it was great. at other times it lost my interest and conversation. I will read Dark Revenge to see if it goes back to the standard of the first two books if not it will be the last one of this series I will be reading. My rating of "Dark Moon" a 4 out of 5 stars.

I really enjoyed books 1 and 2
1 Dark Wolf
2 Dark Spirit

But book 3 (eye roll) it was just sex, sex, and hey, what'd you know? More sex. Very little plot or actual storyline. Now, I have nothing against a good erotic romance, but this simply isn't that - at all. I get that Chanku are. Above ANYTHING else, sexual. But, good grief.

***Spoilers***

Igmutaka is Star's spirit guide, but he smothered her so badly she left for 14 long years. For being a highly sexual group Ig would not have sex with Star and she was madly in love with him, and he was supposedly in love with her too, but wouldn't act on it, but he had absolutely no problem having sex with everyone else, including her best friend Sunny. Not only wouldn't he screw her, he wouldn't allow anyone else near her either. except Sunny. For a highly sexual race that would be pretty freaking awful.

The book opens with Ig having sex with Sunny, & Star having sex with some pathetic human guy. Ig is complaining to Sunny about how Star is with yet another disappointing lover & how he wishes Star would come home (another eye roll) I guess it never occurred to him to go after Star? Oh, yes, Ig's a real winner.

An hour later he learns Star is returning home, but she will be stopping at a cabin a few hours away to have some alone time. He decides he's NOW going to go meet her there, without telling her, but first, of course, he needs to have sex with Sunny again (eye roll). While having sex with her he tells Sunny that her mate is close.

Ig leaves...

Sunny, in wolf form, is raped by her future mate, Fen, also in wolf form. But, hey, it's okay! They even laugh about it (eye roll).

Eve, their goddess, tells Sunny and Fen they have to go to Ig and Star because they are in danger,

Before they go though they have to sex several times and mate properly, this time, as wolves.

In the meantime, Ig and Star are reconnecting and fall into bed, of course, after very quickly discussing their problems. They continue to have sex several more times as humans, and mate as cougars and wolves.

Sunny and Fen arrive, brief discussion of why they're there, and then watching of each couple having sex, then both men having sex, and both women having sex. Another brief intermission for action outside the bedroom, and then all 4 have sex together.

Another intermission for action outside the bedroom. Men are hurt, women try to rescue, and all are kidnapped. But, don't worry, the kidnapping is resolved quite quickly so they can all go back to have... MORE sex.

That's it folks!

Very intense from beginning to end. The third book in a wonderful series of the Chanku dealing with jealousy, greed and staying alive among those who want something unreachable. Amazing book from the first page to last about two couples looking for answers, finding puzzles but finding the ultimate prize, love.

I for one was more than thrilled to find out that Ms. Douglas had decided to continue her Wolf Tales Series with the next generation of Chanku in the Spirit Wild Series. For those of you, like me, who eagerly awaited Dark Moon, the story of spirit guide Igmutaka, it was well worth the wait. Ig, the destined mate of Mikaela Star Fuentes, daughter to Miguel (Mik) Fuentes, Andrew Jackson Temple (AJ) and Tala (aka Mary Ellen Quinn Temple-Fuentes), has waited a long time for Star to come of age from the infant he himself helped to bring into the world.

Unfortunately, Star is not very accepting of her destiny with the overbearing male who took human form midway through the Wolf Tales Series. Instead, she runs to entrench herself in the human world under the guise of getting an education, thus avoiding Igmutaka at all costs. Good thing Ig has learned patience over his many years of existence.

With their Chanku nature, their pack mentality, and of course their increased libido, neither of the two has led a celibate life. Sunny Daye, a Chanku female discovered in Wolf Tales 12, and Igmutaka have been lovers for years, even though they are both aware that they are not meant for each other. For Star, none of the humans she takes to bed are ever able to fully satisfy her. After running for fourteen years, Star finally realizes she needs to return home to her Chanku family and Igmutaka, the man she’d never been able to forget no matter how hard she tried.

As usual, danger always follows the pack, and this book is no exception. Poachers, on private Chanku land, needlessly slaughtering the protected wolf population are discovered by a Federal Game Warden. Enter Fenris (Fen) Ahlberg, Sunny Daye’s destined mate with as ancient a past as Ig’s gives the Chanku pause as they attempt to determine if he is friend or foe. The connection between Igmutaka, Star, Sunny, and Fen was something I never would have even considered. Only the creative mind of Ms. Douglas would come up with this interwoven foursome.

This edgy, yet erotic, continuation of the Chanku journey that began in 2006 is definitely a must read.

So this book caught me completely off guard! Don’t get me wrong, I have read the other books in the series, but WOW! This author has once again completely blown me away by writing another book that is so jammed packed with action, information, sex, and of course drama. And I can’t seem to get enough of it!
During the course of this book, we get to know more about Ig, Star, Sunny, Fen and their completely unusual relationship. And by unusual, I do mean something that hasn’t happened during this series so far. While I do think that compared to the other books in the series, this book has more sex scenes for sure, but this is also about 2 separate couples. As opposed to the other books that are about 1 couple.
One thing that I did enjoy about this book, more than the others, is we are really told a lot of more information about the history of the Chanku. With Ig being the spirit guide, we get to find out more from what he has seen happen, and then their Goddess does make more appearances in this story as well.
While this book was packed with a lot of information at times, I did like how there was some instances that where touched on again that have been brought up in the other books. I liked how the author added that because it’s another way that that ties the series, as opposed to the characters all being Chanku.
Overall, I did completely enjoy this book and I really can’t wait for the next book in the series!

oh my god, star finally decided to go home, after all these years or running away
from igmutaka, she finally relized she just can`t run any more she must go home and admit it to igmutaka that she loves him,and she always has,oh god how she loves her spirit guide, even if he tells her that he dosen`t love her,she was going to tell him the truth, and tell him how sorry how bad she has treated him all these years, she felt really bad about that,so she went yo the packs cabin, she wanted to unwinded and relax before she got home, she was hopping to stay for about 2weeks,so she could figure out how to tell him she was thinking of taking a run something she hasen1t done for a while,it was hard to do in school and around the city, she had chased igmutaka away and told him she didn`t want him around any more,he told her if she ever wanted him he would come all she had to do was call him,and she did need him she was so lonely and didn`t have anyone to talk to,so she called to him but she didn`t think he`d come for what she did to him,she went out on the porch to go for her run,and there he was sitting at the bushes, when he came over to her she told him to take a run with her,and that she had something very important she wanted to talk to him about.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book takes place in a shapeshifter world unlike any other I've read. There is a blend of goddesses, shifters, magic, and romance (of course) that is really unique in each book from this series.

Fen, Sunny, Ig, and Star are the main characters in this book. The two sets of romances happen between Fen and Sunny and Ig and Star. They pretty much represent the two extremes for paranormal romance couples. Fen and Sunny meet and are mated within 3 days while Ig and Star have been fighting their relationship for 30 years. There's a lot more baggage and explanation than that, but that's the simplistic summary of the romantic elements. The action comes from a variety of run-ins they have with poachers who turn out to be much more.

Since this was my second book in the series, I was pretty comfortable with the rather erotic scenes and the +1 (and +2) guests in the bedroom (or loft, as the case may be). The matings in this book were also completely unique in that the stories intersect in ways I didn't anticipate. Overall, this book kept me guessing, but was probably more of a love story (or two, or three) than an action book of any sort.

This book was very naughty, maybe to naughty and just a tad bit out of my comfort zone. I found myself forcing myself to continue reading as I was a little bit uncomfortable with what was happening in the book, I mean I read the blurb saw it was a shapeshifter romance so of course I had to read it and the cover that decided my decision I wasn't expecting a menage type thing or m/m encounters. I think the next time I choose a book perhaps I should do a little bit more research. The story wasn't bad, but as I said parts made me feel uncomfortable at times. Ig you don't mess around with that man, "then I will kill the bas****." You learn right off that the characters are very sexual and Star that girl knows how to go after what she wants, "she paused a moment, gazing at the rampant erection standing between his legs. "Bring that and follow me." I mean she really knows how to go after what she wants, "you look as if you're prepared to stay a lot longer. Are you certain you don't want to take care of that?" She bent at the waist and kissed the broad tip of his co**."

Sadly, Dark Moon wasn't nearly as good as the first book in the Spirit Wild series, Dark Wolf. Yeah the smexy time was majorly hot but I need more than great sex to keep me involved in a book. I was hoping for more wizardy badness and ended up with something not even remotely exciting. :-(

While I enjoyed the characters and liked that all four of them had a deep connection, the plot was subpar and left me wishing for more of almost everything. Well except for the sex because there was plenty of that. FYI if you have a problem with ménage and/or male/male scenes, you might want to skip this series. The Chanku are extremely sexual creatures and are all equal opportunity types so anything goes in the Spirit Wild world.

I'm not sure I like the direction the Spirit Wild series is going which is very disappointing as Dark Wolf had so much potential. I give Dark Moon 2.5 stars.

A good story, as all of the Chanku's have been. I have been waiting for this one for some time...the story of Spirit Guide Igmatuku (Ig) and Star. Well, it was good. It went pretty much the way I expected and I guess this is why I am not giving it five stars. The series, of late, seems to be becoming a little bit predictable. Heck, I can only imagine how Kate has pulled off such a long-running series to begin with, let alone a spin-off; it's amazing in of itself. However, I would love to see a little more excitement, danger, etc. infused back into their lives. From what I can see, at the end of this book, and the warnings from Eve and The Mother, it sounds as if Kate is going in this direction. I happily look forward to it. In the end, a quality Chanku novel by Kate Douglas. Worth a read. =)
