3 Anticlimactic Stars

*******Spoilers**********

So of all the on going plot of this series I have been liking and following the Jim/Sissy love story, and of course the battle for 7 souls to rule the world!

Oh wait wrong book lol, anyways So this book was a total anticlimactic let down. The whole Sissy/Jim saga was built up for the whole series and when they got together it was just meh. The battle with Devina was meh. The plot didn't really go anywhere from where it left off the last book. The two souls left to win were Sissy and Jim and the cross roads that decided the win for both was really lame. It was like Sissy got mad and was about to Hulk Smash and then didn't....... Yay she won her battle. Wow that was such a crossroads. The same was true with Jim he was gonna break Devina's mirror because he was mad she hurt Sissy and then he just doesn't and wow he wins too. The ending felt like it wrapped up way to perfect. Everyone that has Died comes back, everyone in love was still in love, Devina was in hell but she was okay with it and when and if she gets out she doesn't want pay backs for Jim trapping her there. Nope she just thought.....I will find a man that loves me. Oh and Ad was healed and could have sex again. Jim and Sissy went to heaven reunited with his mom and lived HEA..... The End. Yup total let down. I am glad I read it though just in case JR Ward brings Devina to the BDB world. I am also glad I am done with this series it wasn't the worst but it was just meh all around.

The finale to the Fallen Angels series, it’s been a fun ride. My honest reaction to this is that I didn't want to say goodbye, especially to Jim. The last chapter? Omg. THE LAST CHAPTER.

Don't judge me. The ending did me in, I wasn't expecting that. It takes a lot to get me to blubber when reading but here I was ready to curl into a ball after finishing it. Was it predictable? yes but the dialogue hits you square in the chest. Really poignant bittersweet ending. So happy for Jim! As much as I hate to say goodbye it was a beautiful ending to a wonderful series and once again managed to suck me in from page 1. Was this the strongest book? No, but even so for a finale it was satisfying enough and had it's moments. There's something so real, raw and unforgiving about Ward's world building and characters. The relationships, connections and emotions that Ward creates resonate the most with me every time and come across so infallible.

Jim and Sissy
Jim and Sissy are quite the opposites yet managed to fit so well. I wasn't expecting to like them as much as I did until I read Possession. Sissy manages to make Jim feel human again so effortlessly and gets him to open up and be vulnerable for the very first time which I liked. She makes him feel more human than he ever did while alive which is very fitting. It just added more dimension to his character, something at times we really didn’t get to see outside the chain-smoking ‘let’s do this’ military attitude. Seeing him get flustered and awkward around her was another added bonus. :P So adorable. I liked it because it wasn't overdone or sappy but sweet and sexy. It had me wishing for more of those sweet little moments. If anything this highlighted just how incredibly lonely Jim's been his entire life, a fact I kept forgetting about while going into every book. In here it resonated more which is what makes the conclusion more gratifying yet heartbreaking at the same time. I just wanted to hug him. He was only ever valued/used for his skills as a X-OPs soldier his entire life he's never had anyone or a family after losing him mom at a young age. His dream of what he wanted in life I found very endearing and humbling. I’m so happy he’s finally found his happiness and contentment. He truly deserves it.

My two winged-wonder boys! :D I adore these two for so many reasons and so damn frickety-frack happy that they are gonna cross over to the BDB world. I’ve really grown quite attached to these two and really amazed how far they’ve come in such a short period of time--Adrian especially. Another lip-quivering moment for me was I’ve always been charmed by the dynamic between them, they balance each other out so well that it’s hard to imagine one without the other. They remind me of a yin and yang, complete opposites but very necessary & vital to each other. Eddie always brings the calm presence and reason to both Jim and Adrian and it was very much needed here. Adrian’s fierce love and protection over his best friend even after what Devina did made me love the guy more. He’s come a long way and I can’t wait to see what Ward has in store for them once they catch up with Lassiter. I bitched so much about these 2 not getting their own HEA so I'm just thrilled she left it open like this. And I wanna know what the heck they are gonna be doing for the 2 years that’s passed in order to catch up with present time in BDB world? The time jump clearly didn’t happen in here that Ward promised so I'm wondering how she's gonna explain that one. lol

My gripe with this was the length of the book. I thought this was a little short and abrupt in comparison to the other books. This is only 388 pages, that's very short for a Ward book and I do think she could have added a little more here and there. I mean everything that needed to happen happened but I couldn't help but feel that the intensity and suspense was missing in some areas like I mentioned earlier. Everything seemed more rushed than usual, in the other books you don't notice the short timeline at all here it was much more obvious because of the short plot. And once again because of the short time-frame the romance seemed a little rushed as well. I did think the ILY came a little too quickly, I mean we knew it was coming but I had to take it in with how fast it came about in here, I was expecting a whole lot of foot shuffling. I still think Ward could have added more by letting things unfold longer than a 2-3 day timeline..it’s the finale what’s the rush? For the life of me I don’t understand why the heck you would take such a rich layered world with it’s of balance of good vs. evil war and cram it into a 2 day window for each round?! That still makes no sense to me. Why rush something that is as vast and detrimental as a war like this? *shrugs*

Devina

Sorry couldn't help it. She drove me nuts as always. Every time she goes near Jim I get that unreasonable territorial urge to scream Bitch STOP TOUCHING HIM NOW! Even when he's being an idiot. I love/hate to hate her. She’s so demented that I honestly keep picturing her getting a taste of her own medicine with Lash. >:D Ward better go there now. I only would tolerate more of her OCD slimy ass if Lash does a real number on her. I can't wait to see her sink her claws in him it will be Jim who? Heh. Ward really knows how to write crazy terrifying psychos when she really puts her mind to it. When it's good, it's fun.

All in all, while I’m sad I'm happy how everything turned out. I would have liked more suspense and surprises but eh not bad. Everything I wanted played out one way or another. It's been a pleasure reading this series and I recommend it to all new comers or JR fans in general. To those who stopped reading because of what happened a few books back if my review didn't give it away.... keep reading. :)

The final book in the Fallen Angels Series…and it so failed to impress me!!!! Everything comes together in this book…all tied up at last….and it so felt a bit flat for me!!! I really struggled to get through it…

This has not my favorite series by JR WARD…that title belongs to the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series….however there were some books that I did like… but mostly it’s been a bit of a hit and miss!!.

Here are some of my thoughts on this “fallen angels finale”:
 photo Legion-1_zps242260ac.jpg

1. I really liked Jim Heron, the savior of good, in the first two or three books, but my liking began to wan by the time he became so obsessed with Sissy that nothing else mattered top him….I was and still am unable to get “it”…they just don’t feel “right” to me!!! He’s suppose to feel so much for her and he still “does” it with evil Devina…oh yes, he has to do it to save the world…PLEEEEEZZZZ……and he’s even prepared to give one of his souls to her!!!!! Really!!!!! Even knowing that Devina is totally beyond besotted with him!!!! Totally weird!!!

2. Sissy…she just seemed too young and immature!!!! I just could not connect with her.

3. Adrian and all those archangels…they just got on my nerves…they were so “precious” and maddening..all those tea parties in heaven…..and an angel committing suicide!!!! What!!!!!

4. The romance between Jim & Sissy was so tepid!!!!

5. The Purgatory thingies…..yawn yawn yawn!!!!

6. The big Jim Heron revelation……..it didn’t make sense to me…..

What I loved was Devina!!!!!
What a surprise…right???? She’s supposedly the ultimate evilness…but you know what???? She never pretended to be anything else – she’s beyond OCD…check….
loves shoes, photo tumblr_morbbxP9bg1s82kx9o1_r5_500_zpsmx02rl1u.gif
famous labels – wow, is there brand dropping or not? Chanel lipsticks and she’s totally obsessed with Jim Heron…her Achilles heel!!!!Still???? And here I believed it was her home possessions!!!!! I kind of saw something good under all her evilness!!!!! I would love to see her and Lassiter……getting together!!!! Maybe he’s the one to save her soul!!!!!!

Her therapist appointments made my day……… and my heart went to her as she cried her eyes out……..
 photo tumblr_m7u3ryBO5M1qh01r8o1_400_zpsqizrourx.gif
and to see her lose everything…okay, she did manage to keep 1 shoe...why not let her keep both???? Damn cruel.....

If you’ve read the previous books in this series, then you should read this one….even though it left me a bit in the air…..was everything resolved or not????

I guess we will not be seeing the end of some of the characters in this series….who knows, they might just make an appearance in future Black Dagger Brotherhood books!!! Yes, please….Devina??????

Please note: I didn't accept to read this book. I declined it because it was the last book in a series. But it was sent home to my anyway and I read it because I am both stubborn and dutiful. So if you like this book series you will probably don't like this book review. But before you write to me and complain, bear in mind that I have the freedom to express my thoughts to writing down what I thought about the book!

The creator has created a game, in which Jim, a champion from heaven, fights against Devina a demon from hell has over souls. There are 7 souls in the game and whoever gets 4 wins. And he/she just doesn’t get a t-shirt. The winner gets all the souls, living and dead and dominion over heaven and hell.

You see here, this is my biggest problem with the book, the story just don’t make sense to me. Perhaps it all the years studying theology that makes my go wtf over the story. Why on earth would the Creator (God) create a game like this? To be fair, I haven’t read the previous five books, but this just doesn’t make sense to me. Was the Creator bored on day and thought “ what the heck I will gamble the rights to every soul and also the dominion over heaven and hell just for fun”?

See even Crowley finds that weird!

Another problem is Sissy, one of the souls that Jim saves. First of all, I can’t stop thinking about Guy Maddin's short video Sissy boy slap party every time I see her name. So I thought about the video a lot of times during the book. Never seen it? Watch it! Anyway, Sissy and Jim are apparently in love and that means a lot of sex in the book… fine I can take sex scenes in books if it necessary to the plot and also good written. But in this book I just mentally sighed every time it was time for a sex scene, skimmed the text to get it over and move on to the story. Honestly, I skimmed the last 100 pages quite a lot…

But if you are up for an erotic paranormal book series about demons and angels then this is a series for you.

3.5 stars. Soooooo...I got through the series. I feel like I should be asking someone for a cookie. I don't know why. It's not even that I had a bad time reading the books. Hell, it's very rare that I read any book series all-in-a-row. Blame it on the back-to-back nose break then flu which kept me in bed, and the "why the hell not, I don't feel like trying to figure out a new world every time I pick up the next book" feeling.

BUT...most of the books in this series were 3 star books at best. While one could make the point that the Fallen Angels books were far less cheesetastic than their BDB counterparts, by this point, I'm sentimentally attached to the BDB brand of in-your-face cheese.

My thoughts from book 2's review continue to sum up my feelings for the series : While I wished for more BDB crossover in this book (and the rest of the series), I found myself not liking some of the similar phrasings and characteristics to characters from BDB (the singing like Z's, the kept necklace, the wannabe V/Butch dynamic). It's like this weird mix of comforting and off-putting to read a series which mirrors another in so many aspects, yet doesn't give me the similarities that I'm actually looking for. Either the BDB world should have crossed paths more often, or the Fallen Angels should have been off in some other world completely separate from Caldwell's Iron Mask and detective Jose "has no life outside of his job."

That said, I kind of liked how this final book focused on the main characters instead of the souls. If you haven't read the earlier series books, my comments ahead about some of the main characters might be considered very mild spoilers.

We never really got to know anything about Jim and Sissy until midway through book 5, so I think having a book dedicated to J&S, Adrian/Eddie, Nigel/Colin, etc. was necessary - if for no other reason but to tie up loose ends.

I didn't hate the Jim/Sissy dynamic like a lot of people did, but maybe it's because I knew from the start that she wasn't going to stay "little Sissy" forever. Her name was ridiculous though; I will give everyone that.

The ending was as it should have been. Yes, it's sad that

Devina - she was a riot. The series would have been much more drab without her.

It's too bad that Lassiter didn't interact with the FA's, but Ward will be bringing A&E into a BDB crossover, so there's still hope for the future. Yay!

I was a little shocked when I learned that Immortal was to be the final book in the Fallen Angels series because I had always assumed there was going to be seven books to match the seven deadly sins and the seven souls. I grew a bit more worried when I learned this book was the shortest book in the series so far. It left me wondering if perhaps J.R.Ward had grown bored of the series and just wanted it concluded quickly.

The first third of the book did nothing to alleviate my worries. It was a bit slow and characters who I usually love like Sissy and Jim were managing to annoy me with their actions. Even Adrian seemed like a shadow of his former self. Luckily about halfway through things started to improve and we got an interesting plot twist that provided an acceptable explanation for the annoying early behavior of some of the main characters.

I was, mostly, happy with how the series concluded. All the loose threads were dealt with. I loved the way things ended for Jim and Sissy. I was happy enough with the ending for the Arch Angels. I even liked the way things ended for Devina, but do have to admit I was hoping for a different outcome. The ending for Adrian and Eddie was the most interesting of the bunch as it looks like they might be on their way to the BDB books!

All in all I was a bit disappointed that the final book in the Fallen Angels series was not as good as the previous books, but I still enjoyed the conclusion.

The star of this book was undoubtedly the demon Devina. Who's self deluded antics were hilarious enough to provide laughs even during some of this books dull spots.

Rating: 3.5 stars.

Audio Note: Eric. G. Dove has done a decent job narrating the whole FA series.

This series has been hit and miss for me lately. JR Ward can really wow me with her romances and she shines with the heat factor. Generally, she’s at her best with f’ed up heroes who are transformed by a love they would never thought they would get. It’s been the individual romances that have sustained this series for me, while the overall arc has been downright painful at times. The hero, Jim, has become increasingly annoying, crossing into the TSTL arena. And sadly, this book is all about him and the elements that have turned me off in the earlier books, without the balm of a good romance to offset it.

But wait, you may be wondering, how can there be a JR Ward book without romance? Well, there IS a romance of a fashion. But it’s not a good one. It’s the dreaded Jim and Sissy pairing that Ward has been foreshadowing since the beginning. If the idea of this couple doesn’t bother you, maybe you’ll enjoy it more than I did. But Jim’s obsession with Sissy has squicked me out from the get-go. He’s a 40 year-old, jaded killer. She is a 19 year-old virgin, who lived with her mom and was hoping to get her first car. She was like a child and he was old enough to be her father. And he has nearly sacrificed the world for her, without ever really even knowing her. I didn’t use the word obsession lightly. It’s creepy and his so-called feelings have no real foundation.

And then there is the fact that he’s been sleeping with Devina and –blackmail or not– he’s gone at it with gusto. And while Devina’s obsession with Jim is 50 shades of wrong, it didn’t bother me any more than his for Sissy. With all of this, I just couldn’t connect. I could barely care, except for the occasional “ew.”

The book wasn’t all bad. I was interested in what was going on with Nigel, Pergatory, and the twists on who the last remaining souls were. I was interested in whether they would find a way to bring Eddie back or if we’d get any ties to Lassiter from the BDB. There were a few interesting surprises and a satisfying ending.

But that couldn’t save the book from a romance that just didn’t work for me and hero I have wanted to smack for a while now. That the future of the world lay on this guy’s shoulders was laughable, terrifying, and ridiculous all at once. But if you like Jim or actually wanted him paired with Sissy, this book is for you. For me, not so much.

Wow! I am just stunned at how good this book was! There could not possibly have been a better ending to the Fallen Angels series. Immortal was absolutely perfect in every way and, try as I may, I cannot think of a single thing that could have made it better. I also can't think of a single thing that I didn't like. I LOVED every single page of it. From the very first page this final showdown between good and evil takes off running and there is never a dull moment from beginning to end. Here's just a few things that I loved about Immortal :

1. After all this build-up between Jim/Sissy and Jim/Devina, the other angels, and the war in general, we get a final book that focuses completely on that. There aren't any new characters introduced so we get exactly what we've been waiting for with zero distractions. Jim and Sissy are the two final souls in the game so they are the focus, which is exactly what readers have been waiting for.

2. Jim himself. He proves to be such a strong character while fighting this war. It's coming to a close and he is completely worn down and feeling defeated. But then, we get to see him reach deep inside himself and find the strength to carry on, and make sacrifices for the good of others. I loved how Nigel always refers to him as the Savior. He truly saved to world with his inner strength and loyalty to the cause and his friends.

3. Eddie and Nigel are brought back to life. I have been wanting Eddie to return ever since he was killed in the 3rd book. Adrian has just been lost without his best friend and it was absolutely beautiful to see those two reunited. And what's the first thing they do? Why yes, it's going out to pick up women. Are we sure these guys are angels? ;-) Also, the way that Jim has to sacrifice himself, and take his own life, to go into purgatory to get Nigel was a very emotional and well written part of the book. It just tugged at your heartstrings. Then, Jim was able to use Nigel to petition the Creator to bring Eddie back as well. So Jim's sacrfice was able to bring back two very important angels.

4. Devina actually earned some sympathy in Immortal . I loved loved loved that the devil, Devina, was not only defeated, but that she was truly taught a lesson. She got her heart broken and realized that being evil was extremely lonely. She actually helped Adrian, Colin, and Sissy get Jim and Nigel out of purgatory after Jim went in to get Nigel. The scene where Devina realizes that Jim is dead was both disgusting (because she was too upset to hold her beautiful appearance and returned to her natural zombie-ish form) and also very emotional. She was truly broken hearted, and for her to mourn Jim was a very eye-opening experience for her. And then, after she helps to bring him back, she has to watch him run into Sissy's arms. That was sad, too. She learned her lesson way too late. She was still her completely crazy, and evil self for the vast majority of the book, but we do see some significant changes in her. And not only regarding her feelings for Jim. Turns out that her therapist was the Creator all along and, since she was created by Him, He still loves her. It was very moving to watch her figure all that out and she finally conquers her OCD by realizing that people are more important than the objects she collects and hoards.

5. The ending was perfect! Throughout the book we see Sissy upset that she will never get into Heaven. Even though she was a complete innocent when she was murdered bby Devina, the fact that Devina stole her soul and held it in Hell has contaminated her, and she can't go to Heaven for fear that she might infect the other "residents" with Devina's evil that's inside her. We also see, throughout the entire series, how much Jim misses his mother. He was chosen by both the good and evil sides because he has both goodness and pure evil within himself. The only thing that made him choose to fight for the good side was the fact that his mother was in Heaven and he didn't want the devil to have control of her soul. She has been his inspiration, along with Sissy, the entire time. Through a series of events, Sissy is cleansed of Devina's evil and Jim wins the war, so the Fallen Angels series comes to an end with Jim and Sissy entering Heaven and being met by Jim's mother. It was such a touching scene and the perfect way to close out the series.

I could seriously write a book about everything I loved about Immortal (Dog, the storyline about the halos on the souls in the game, the clock-which I never did quite figure out, Nigel and Colin, Eddie and Adrian's next mission involving Lassiter from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series- so we leave knowing we'll get to see them again, learning a bit more about Lassiter's past, etc, ect) but I'll stop there. Needless to say, I recommend this entire series, and this book in particular is definitely being added to my "favorites" shelf. This was a book where, when I finished reading the last page, I immediately went back to page one and started it all over again. It doesn't get better then that.

3.5 “Fallen Stars"

I have honestly really enjoyed this series, and this being the final “Fallen Angels” book, J.R. Ward has tied everything up nicely. Sadly it fell flat to me, it was good but not as great as I was hoping it would be ( and thought it could be in my opinion ). It just felt sort of anti-climatic to me.

Jim is suppose to be the “Savoir” in this war of Good vs Evil/God vs Devil and yet he was ready give up the fight with Davina because "If Sissy can't go to heaven there's no sense in winning the war." Really?…So all of humanity is to go to hell if one girl cannot get into Heaven?

I have enjoyed the ongoing storyline between Jim & Sissy in all the previous books but there was just TOO much Jim & Sissy. I love HEA’s and I always want one but I was a bit uneasy with this one as Jim is much older and Sissy is very, very young regardless of what she has been through, it was hard for me to get past the age difference and see them as a couple.

It also bothered me that it seems Davina was all of the sudden from “the hood”…. WTH was up with all the slang/street talk? And I just have to say I think my lovely friend Karla would have been screaming at her kindle with all the products, name brands, and labels dropped in this book….repeatedly (that kind of bugs her about JRW’s books LOL...) I normally don't mind her shout outs but it was rather excessive.

Lastly, I loved Eddie and Ad throughout the series, we get plenty storyline for them which I really enjoyed and would have liked to have more of, along with Nigel & CoIin, and lastly I was giddy with the mention of Lassiter and getting some info on my beloved BDB’s own personal Fallen Angel.

Not a bad read, but I had hoped for so much more as a series ending.

This book was a mess. Everyone's voice has gotten lost due to all the slang. It's too much. Not everyone has to talk like that. Overkill.

Devina is still my favorite. I loved the therapy sessions and it finally hit me half way through what that was. I really liked it.

I still can't stand Jim. A few redeeming actions but mostly just an arrogant obsessive asshole. "If Sissy can't go to heaven there's no sense in winning the war." ummm really? Yes I guess the entire world should go up in flames all because of one barely legal girl that Jim wants to bang. Seriously? Just one example of how ridiculous this book was.

It was also very clear that people had problems with the hook up in the past because JR Ward starts off very early in trying to convince us that she is now a "woman". It was just days in the wall but it felt like centuries...that is a woman down there not a girl. Right. Nice try but I still am not buying it.

The premise of the story from the beginning was a bit weak but it's fiction so I really tried to buy into it. There were just too many holes, too many things that didn't make sense about it all. I'm glad it' over and I imagine she is too. It doesn't really feel like a series that even the author is too proud of. I feel like she got lost in it toward the end and wrapped it up a book early just to get out.

Anyways the only good thing that I was happy about was the mention of Lassiter. Now that might be fun....

'Brilliant' is the first word that comes to mind. JR Ward never ceases to astound me in her ability to create the worlds in which her characters live. Immortal was my favorite book in the Fallen Angels series and a perfect fitting end to the plots and twists of the epic war between good and evil. I loved how the "souls" played out one by one until the last, and the growth of Jim and Devina throughout the books, as well as the supporting cast. My heart was totally content by the end of this book. Besides a kickass HEA, JR Ward can also write a villain better than any author I've read. The bad guys (or gals) are done so well you can't help but become attached and invested. I have a feeling we haven't heard the last from our OCD, therapy-addicted, Louboutin-wearing villainess just yet. At least I hope not. 5 stars for me.

4.5 Stars

Intense.
An Awesome Concept.
Very well written.

🤔 Makes you wonder where your own Cross Roads are......

Wasn't my favorite of the series, but it was still excellent.
I admit it kept my attention from the first page to the absolute last word.

I can't wait to see what J.R. Ward comes up with next.
She has definitely made me an AVID & DEVOTED fan.

🎵 Would love to see this world & her BDB world collide! 💞💥
And it does. There are characters that crossover between her BDB and Fallen Angel series!

I can't believe its over :(

I'm going to miss these characters so much, although I think a couple of them may end up in BDB, or so I hope.

I loved the ending of this series. Ward did a fantastic job tying everything up perfectly, but not too perfect which made it, well, perfect.

EDIT: It was sooo good!

OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME!

When I first saw this:

FINALLY! There is a cover which looks oh so frikin' cool!

And a short

short

short

blurb

"... the most heart-stirring and eagerly anticipated events in that acclaimed series."

HOLFY FUDGE IS THIS ABOUT WHO I THINK IT IS? I HOPE SO I HOPE SO

And I read on, but it didn't really tell us anything... I mean c'mon! It doesn't even confirm whose book it is. It would be nice to find out if our hopes have come true... IF ITS JIM THEN HE BETTER END UP WITH SISSY. I will scream bloody murder of they don't end up together

And then I reached the end where it said "...comes to an epic close"

SAY WHAT?

I thought there would be seven books

and then I scrolled down even more...

OCTOBER

FRIGGIN' OCTOBER

WHY oh why are the books I so badly want to read come out in October, which is a few hundred months away??

I truly honestly cannot wait for this... But I'm kind of disappointed as well because I wanted Adrian to have his own book. Oh well, I hope he gets an HEA in this book too then :D

It's quite sad though, since I really liked this series and am sad to see it end so quickly, even if it was meant to be that way...

(Source: I received a finished copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks so much to Piatkus and Little, Brown Book Group!)

This was a good end to the series, and I liked how everything came together.

I liked Sissy in this book, she seemed to have grown so much since the last book, and she finally started to come across as a woman rather than a girl, which made a big difference! I liked the way we got even more insight into Devina’s character, and I liked the risks that Jim took to make things right.

The storyline in this was good. I liked how the storylines came together, I liked who the final two souls were (even if I had kind-of predicted it), and I liked the way the storyline developed. I did think that some crazy things happened in this book, but it all worked out okay!
There was romance, and some pretty hot sex scenes, they weren’t quite as steamy as some of J. R. Wards other work, but they were still good ;) I have to say that I much preferred the relationship between Jim and Sissy in this book compared to the previous book.

The end to this was good, and I thought the author had done a really good job of tying off those loose ends in a satisfying and believable way, making this a great end to the series.
Overall; good end to the series!
7 out of 10.

My first questions is: Is there going to be a spin off of this series starring Ad and Eddie??? Obviously Lassiter is the target - or am I just hoping!!! Can you imagine - Ad and Eddie - Yes!!!

Second question is - Can someone mend my heart - I'm breaking because this is the end of the series (unless of course the first question is answered with a yes!!!)

Ok, I have loved this series from book 1 and this one is no different - I love to hate Divina, I love Jim, Ad and Eddie and the Angels upstairs...

I adore that Eddie came back (hence me hiding this review) - I knew it had to happen at some point, I just didn't think it was going to be Jim's doing...

I have to say though, I felt like the ending of everyone's story was a little quick, maybe rushed to an extent and I thought there would be a little more action that what we got.... BUT I still think the book is worthy of the 5 stars... I just hope my opening question is a yes!!!

Truly love this amazing author!!!

UUUUUUUUGH! I was so frustrated all the way through this book. I couldn’t stand any of the characters except for Adrian and Eddie…and maybe Dog.
I am glad the series is over because the last two books were more aggravating than enjoyable. If you follow the series, you know that Heaven and Hell made a deal because someone got bored and put seven human souls into play to see if Team Good or Team Evil can win them. The team that gets four wins first wins everything. Team Good consists of four snooty archangels who sit up in Heaven, drink tea and play croquet, two thuggish backup angels named Adrian and Eddie and Jim, the savior. There is also the dog who may be God in disguise. Team Evil basically consists of only Devina but she has shadow minions who can fight for her when she calls upon them. She also knows all the rules and has immense powers. The Creator and Devina are the ones who chose Jim to be the leader of Team Good. They agreed upon him because he was 50% good and 50% evil. He is an ex-black ops agent who had just left the life of killing to lead a normal life before he was murdered and became the leader of Team Good. He knows none of the rules or how to use his powers and he never even tries to learn any of this stuff which could have given him an advantage. The only one on Team Good who seems to know anything about the game or war as the call it is Eddie but he has been out of commission for the last few books.
I could never get myself to like Jim throughout the whole series. He is supposed to be ex-military so he should be disciplined and able to plan moves out but instead he seems like he lets his dick do his thinking for him. He has sex with Devina who may look good with her stolen body but underneath she is rotting flesh. It just disgusted me to think he had sex with her. In the fourth book, Rapture, he becomes obsessed with Sissy, the 19 year-old virgin who Devina murdered and hung her body to guard her collection and ancient mirror. Devina somehow put her good soul into her vault of evil souls down in hell so in order to get her out, Jim trades one of his wins for Sissy’s soul. The whole 5th book, Possession, Jim spent pining for Sissy. He said he was worrying about how she was adapting to her new life. He really just had a hard on for her. Then at the end of Possession, he goes and sleeps with Devina again. He just is a disgusting pig.
In this book, Jim blames Sissy for his loss of the last soul because he said he was too busy worrying about her which was strange because Adrian basically kept Sissy company in the last book. Sissy, who I liked okay in the last book, became a whiner in this book. She suffered in Devina’s vault in Hell and was lucky to get out but now been out for a week or less and starts having thoughts about how she just can’t go on like this living the way she is living like she has been enduring it for years. It just made her character seem weak.
What makes her seem even lamer is when she has sex with Jim not even 24 hours after she knows he has slept with Devina. It just seemed desperate.
I had to force myself to keep reading the book. It took me days to read the whole book which is long for me. I kept finding any excuse to do other things. The romance between Jim and Sissy didn’t even interest me. I was routing for Adrian and Sissy to get together at one point because they seemed to have a better connection than Jim and Sissy had. I kept thinking of Jim as some middle aged, burned-out man who wanted some young tail. I really didn’t even care if they got together or not. I wasn’t feeling it.
I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood series but the Fallen Angel series was not for me.

It really breaks my heart to have to give this final book in the Fallen Angels series a poor review. I have been a fan of J.R. Ward and this series from the very beginning but I just couldn't buy into this last installment. I'm hoping the rumors of this and the BDB series eventually merging together are true. If that's the case and we get a more true to form demonstration of the remaining characters, I may go back and edit this review. If that doesn't happen however I have to ask who these characters were, because they weren't the same bad a$$es that I fell in love with years ago.

I understand characters grow and obviously develop throughout a series. But with that mentioned, none of these people (ok, angels and demons) were even a shadow of what they were in the first book. This series takes place over the course of less than a month's time! That is just not enough time for the drastic personality changes that took place. Devina, the more evil than evil demon that is in fact a representation of the devil herself turned into a huge sniveling pu$$y! What a let down she was! Then moving onto Jim Herron... Ugg, how much I loved that guy. His big bad boy self just did it for me like no other dreamy book boyfriend ever did. When did he stop being a bad a$$? Sissy just turned him into one! Even Adrian! He was another great book boyfriend that I had to dump towards the end.

I was just disheartened by the book in it's entirety. The characters, the whole process of introducing the "souls" on the playing field in this installment, the plot, even the climax was anticlimactic... I felt like I was driving in the Griswald's family cruiser on the way to Wallyworld. We stopped once and a while to see things like the worlds biggest ball of twine, which by comparison was Sissy and Jim's relationship. Just pointless. And then, just when I think I might finally hit an interesting climax after my 3000 mile journey of let down after let down, the park was closed.

The final instalment in J R Ward's Fallen Angels series. Despite a slow start and all the J R Wardspeak I loved the premise of this series, seven souls in play in the ultimate game to decide whether good or evil rules the world. The fact that the trio of angels Jim, Adrian and Eddie were the stars of the series, not the featured couple in each book also made an interesting change in a PNR series.

Whilst this book lacked some of the punch and unpredictability of the middle instalments and the final pages were a wee bit clichéd, I still thought the ending played out well. Devina learnt her lesson, the good guys were triumphant and best of all our favourite angels Eddie and Adrian don't look to be done yet... Hello Lassiter and the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Eric G. Dove did a good job with the narration. I liked the voices he did for all the main characters in the story.

It's down to the final two souls in the winner take all game between Heaven and Hell. The last round between the angel Jim and the demon Devina ended in disaster for the good guys. Jim must regain his focus and save the remaining souls in play or all will fall into the claws of evil.

*Sigh* This series has been really uneven. At times it's very good, my favorite being Envy, and the rest of the time it's just okay.

Jim wasn't given the choice of becoming savior to mankind. For most of the series he's been an interesting imperfect hero but his decisions over this and the last book are head scratching and frustrating. In the heroine seat you have Sissy, a 19 year old virgin who can't seem to decide if she wants to hold onto her innocence or play the part of naughty girl for Jim's sake. I was underwhelmed by both of them.

J.R. Ward's books have some of my favorite, most heart wrenching romances and are always hot with a capital H. Yea, not here. Jim's weird physical relationship with Devina once served a purpose yet now I'm not sure he even Jim knows what that purpose is. One thing is certain, it's led Devina into a bizarre obsession with Jim that has turned her into a delusional shadow of a once complex character. Add in Sissy, who has her nose rubbed into the fact that her crush and hero has spent many hours having sex with the monster that caused her so much pain, it makes for an uncomfortable situation with zero romance.

Story wise everything is okay. Just okay (that seems to be the theme of my review). There's a trip to purgatory and it's refreshing to finally have a different setting to explore and it helps answer the big 'WHY!?!' question the angel Nigel left readers asking at the end of the previous book. Even while serving a purpose, it all kind of feels forced into the book.

I didn't hate Immortal. Adrian is awesome and carries every scene and the ending involving him and…another angel has me every excited for their future. The final two souls are fitting, albeit predictable, for this stage of the war and it finishes with a bang. The series ends at the right time and stops before it feels like its being drawn out; a good because after this book I probably wouldn't have continued on.

So Davina is now speaking gutter slang? Da Fuck Bro! JR has seriously overshadowed her characters in a B.A.D way.

It was cute for a minute; but this tops em all. They now have no voice of their own; but JRs; they're no longer unique nor distinguishable. Sad; Sad day.

I do however love being back again with a ward book.

Oh do shut the fuck up pussy! you sound like a jealous hmm . . School Girl. Yip; school girl. Aged years; my ass. Not once did you bitch and moan about the war before; mum; dad; now all of a sudden its mission central? Pfft! self centered twat.

So think angel boy is floating about. Why he doesn't announce himself is a mystery.

Ha Ha Ha. Lassiter being conformed as an arch angel doesn't surprise me. His being "The Body" does though. What could it mean? Can he break away?

Oh god. Save me from the pyro child! Is she truly THAT delusional as to set fires? Gah; pet hate right there.

Purgatory for what? to teach Jim a lesson? How fucking moronic. love how lassie tried to create a portal into purgatory to. Means we know where his girl is. Prolly meet her there.

He's Prolly gonna help them do the portal to get his girl out. Ha Ha Ha. Lassie told the truth! it wasn't him that started the plague; but Davina.

Hmm no Lassie; but there is an invisible presence. Can't rule out that he had nothing to do with the purgatory scene. Shit; what if he's the soul?

OMG! Poor Adrian! how typically unoriginal JR. Totally disappointed. Would've screamed my guts out too lol

meh not the ending I was hoping for.

Sometimes we disagree on books, but J.R. Ward has been the one consistent author who all of us adore. What is it about her writing that makes you love her books?

Francesca:
J.R. Ward transports me to another world. While I'm reading ANY of her stories, whether paranormal or contemporary, I'm completely immersed in the lives of the characters. I care for everything that happens as if it was happening to me! She makes me feel, she makes me care. And quite frankly I just love how her mind works and the stories she weaves. A master!

Annie: The thing I love about Ward's books is that even when you just read a line from one of her books, you know you're reading a J.R. Ward book. There's something so uniquely hers that comes across in her books. Whether it's the humour, the swagger or the plain old good writing, Ward always gives readers something to be excited about.

Suzanne: I will always know when I am reading a J.R. Ward book, her writing style is so unique. It is vivid and original, she grabs you and throws you straight in to her characters lives and before you know it you are trapped and never want to escape. There is nothing hesitant or unformed about the way she writes and thinks, she goes full throttle and I think we all love being along for the ride.

Angela: For me it's the Heroes and heroines of her books. She makes them so perfect. By that, I mean they are complete with flaws and the most unfortunate of circumstance but are able to rise above them. The way she writes the characters, most often makes me feel like I'm in their shoes. It's exhilarating to feel their strength and passion or anything they do. It's sometimes a great motivator or just plain escape from my reality.

IMMORTAL is the last book in the Fallen Angels series. Did it live up to your expectations? Was there something you would have liked to see more of?

Francesca:
Absolutely. I think it was perfect. Even though I can't even say if it met my expectations or not. Or if I wanted something different. The story and the ending was the perfect way to end of the series. I think readers will be very happy with the results.

Annie: I wasn't sure how Ward was going to end the series. To me the series still felt very fresh and I think she could have gone several other ways with the characters and plot if she wanted to, but I liked the fact that she had an end in sight and didn't prolong the journey for the sake of getting in those extra books or for the money. IMMORTAL ended up being the perfect happily ever after for Jim and Sissy. For the other boys? Well, I guess we'll have to see what happens to Adrian and Eddie, won't we?

Suzanne: It more than lived up to my expectations. I wasn't sure what to expect, was she going to throw an unexpected plot twist in there? Try and stretch the series out? I am glad that she didn't, although it went how I guessed it would, I am a sucker for a happy ending, and if anyone deserved a measure of happiness it was certainly Jim and Sissy. I just hope she now has something in mind for Eddie and Adrian!

Angela: I didn't even know this was the last book. I was surprised when I found out and was a bit disappointed so I really didn't have any expectations. But from the way it ended, I was more than satisfied. Jim certainly needed his much desserved HEA. I am excited that there is a possibility some kind of spin off since some of the characters has not gotten their story yet.

Out of the entire series, who has become your favourite character and why?

Francesca:
Although I love Jim, and I have an insane cuteness love for Dog, I probably have come to care the most for Adrian. The highs and the lows, the changes he went through. And the layers we uncovered. He's definitely got a special place in my heart.

Annie: I want to blurt out Adrian because he's that comic relief that I think is so essential to the series, but I think I'm actually going to go with Devina on this one. Without her, I don't think the series would have been as strong. You can have a great hero, but without a fantastic villain, the war doesn't seem fair.

Suzanne: That's a hard one, I loved Jim and his boys Adrian and Eddie, and I am almost tempted to say that the trio were my favourite. But, I think the girls stole the show. Sissy and her unexpected strength and Devina, just because I love to hate her and I hate even more that I understand her a little. It isn't very often that the bad guy (or gal) gets much page time, or doesn't come out as a bland, faceless nothing, just there so that the hero and heroine have a reason to meet. But Devina was more than that, she was an interesting character in her own right, with a story just as interesting as the good guys.

Angela: This is a hard one. I think in all the books she has written, this is one book that didn't have a character I didn't like. From Jim, Adrian, Eddie, Sissy and Dog , even Devina, as much as I hate her, she just belongs to the story. I love them all.

I'm curious to know your thoughts on Devina. Love? Hate? What did you think about where she ended up?

Francesca:
Love/hate? Can I just say both? As evil as she is and as much damage as she's caused, I've hated her with a passion at times. But then we see that vulnerable (sick) side of her and I feel compassion for her. She's just a little girl without love lashing out. Then I call myself crazy for even entertaining those thoughts.

Annie: I think she's freaking fantastic. I loved her OCD. It made her have vulnerability that Ward kind of made fun of, but also gave her something else to be other than "be evil". She has her own desires and room for growth and that's why she really stood out to me because she's simply not the "villain" in this book, she's also her own fully formed character with just as much good and bad as Jim has.

Suzanne: I've already waxed poetic about Devina. I loved to hate her. I loved that she was an actual character rather than an ill used plot device. As for how she ended up? That can't be the last of it surely? I have a feeling we may be seeing more of Devina in the future.

Angela: Hated her. Still hate her but she is the perfect character to hate. And if Ward decides to write her book I will definitely read it. Of course I would, it is Ward after all. LOL. She is so foul that I just don't know how she can make everything forgivable.

And just to wrap it all up, describe IMMORTAL in a word or two.

Francesca:
Kick.Ass!

Annie: Epic

Suzanne: Bloody Brilliant!

Angela: An Outstanding Read

Oh this is so bad. So very bad... I ended up snark listening to it because I was mildly curious if the end of the world happens. I'll let you guess whether it does or not.

This was, fortunately, a free library audiobook check out. I had read a couple of her books from a different series and didn't realize this was the last one in this series. I'm rather thankful I saved myself from the other five books. This was so utterly bad that it became a point of amusement. The male narrator has a gravely voice and when he read the female parts in a high pitch voice.. I kept picturing Stewie from Family Guy impersonating a woman. Which made the risqué scenes even more comical. I don't get the allure of portraying men in a cave man like fashion or calling a partner "my man" or "my woman". The humor is cliche and the sarcasm tries desperately hard in this story. I won't keep kicking a negative review here; it just wasn't for me.

Cover

Wieder im gewohnten Stil gehalten, was mir super gefällt!

Fazit
