I really enjoyed this short story. It's a simple tale, yes, but I still found it fun and engaging to read.
It tells the tale of an single, young Enginseer attempting to save his beloved vessel from the predations of vile, alien raiders . We follow him as he discovers the threat, comes up with a plan to combat the xenos and then we get to see him carry out said plan. It's a simple tale lacking any real twists or turns but I still greatly enjoyed it. Not everything needs to have a twist, after all.
We also get some very nice information on how the starships of the Imperium work, what some of the internal systems do and how an Enginseer views these complex machines. Never thought I'd read about how coolant works aboard an Imperial warship, but this short story gives you that information and I greatly appreciate it for doing so!
So yeah, it gets 5 out of 5 because it tells a fun story while also supplying the reader with interesting lore that gives you a look into an often ignored part of the setting.
