First let me set the scene...Me a booklover, who doesn’t tend to like paranormal books, mainly because of the long winded world building, confusingly detailed descriptions and millions of characters with long ass names which I struggle to spell or pronounce...stumbles upon a paranormal series with a difference, which in my mind is for the better.

The world of the Eternals begins with the story of Scarlet, a Pyro (fire starter) who has this unusual gift yet doesn’t know how to use or control it. Scared and running from various enemies she never even realised existed until now, she meets Archer, a Lycan who has been searching for a woman connected to the element of fire since having a vision as a child. Book 1 sets the rollercoaster of passion going between Scarlet and Asher which makes you want to know more with every page you read.

I felt as a reader, this novella gave me the imaginative freedom to build up the world of the Eternals by myself. I loved how the focus was on the character building rather than the descriptions of everything around them. This is what I look for and love in a book, after all I was given a brain to create and imagine, so why do I need to read what my mind’s eye can build up on its own.

Another thing I love about Ms Asher’s books are the secondary characters introduced, who all have an edge to them, which makes you want to know more about them. I need their books NOW!!!

My only complaint would be the cost of the novellas. Considering they are short stories (within a series) they are fairly pricey, sadly (which is far from Evi Asher’s fault, as the publishers set the prices). But you can’t help but buy one after another, to find out what will happen next. However I do think they are worth the price as they are brilliant, so enough about that.

To end on a positive note I rushed straight onto the second novella, which continues Scarlet and Archer’s story. I am so glad it was already out and I didn’t have to wait or I would have ugly sobbed. These cruel authors who write cliff hanger endings and continuing stories booooo to them! Lol!

Burning Ember
Burning Mini series Part 1
(Eternals) Outsiders Inc series
by Evi Asher

Burning Ember is part 1 of the Burning Mini series of the (Eternals) Outsiders Inc series.

Yep....it's a serial.

I don't mind reading serials, as I know there is more to come and usually pretty quick.

Cliffhanger! I don't usually give any spoilers, but this is the exception. Just know that it is worth it.

I had forgotten I was reading Part 1. Yes, I sat there for a good 5 minutes with my mouth hanging open, thinking....."What?" Then I remembered.....lol Yes....worth it.

Ok....on to the review....

Archer wants to save Scarlet, from those who are after her to kill her and from herself. He isn't sure he can, as no fire starter has ever survived their own flaming death.

Scarlet is totally clueless of her own abilities and the danger she is to those around her, let alone herself. She learns quickly some of what she can do and how out of control she can be.

Scarlet and Archer go on the run from the Enforcers who are trying to execute the death sentence that has been brought down against Scarlet, for being an untrained Eternal that is causing trouble for all Eternals. (is that a run on sentence..or what?) ;-)

Can they evade the Enforcers long enough to find the Unnamed Oracle that can hopefully do this? Only words will tell....lol

I received a copy in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed this story. It is a quick and easy read that I completed within a day. When we first enter the story, we meet Archer and find out about an eternal being that is very rare. We follow Archer as he searches for Scarlet, the pyro. I also loved the reaction that Archer's inner beast has to Scarlet. What started as simple "bounty hunting" just gave us a new twist.

While we are following Archer, we get to see things from Scarlet's point of view as she is realizing that she has these powers, but she is also in fight or flight mode. She has always had to fend for herself, and these new abilities puts her into ultimate self preservation mode.

We are left with a cliffhanger. I have a love/hate relationship with series. In some cases, I do believe it is needed and a series is the right choice so readers don't become overwhelmed by the sheer size of the story. Sometimes, I feel like the book could have gone on further and possibly cut out the series to have a stand alone. That is what I do wonder about Burning Ember. I believe it will do just fine as a series, but wonder if a stand alone would have been a better choice. That alone does not detour from the fact that it is worth reading and enjoyable. It is a little bit different than the normal paranormal take and that is a good thing!
