Baron de la Warren returned from the war a hero, a sky captain lauded for his brilliant strategies and swashbuckling boldness. Savagely beautiful, he is far too masculine to be pretty, but he is certainly magnificent. And irresistibly sexy.
Tinkerer Annabelle Waters is startled when his lordship commissions mechanized lovebirds, wondering at the private man who lives beneath the public personage. What manner of warrior thinks of such a lover’s gift? She is more than a little eager to see for herself...

The title page said Novella, but I expect more from that descriptor. This is a short story at most. I have always enjoyed Sylvia Day’s writing. It is inviting and sensual. I wasn’t expecting to find steampunk erotica at the bottom of my Everand saved books list, but here we are. This was a quick read and the beginning of my effort to read through the books I have saved over the last couple years. Don’t know where my mind was when I initially saved this title, but I know where it is now.
Short story. Instant attraction with a very erotic encounter set in the world of 1820's steampunk. This was like a snapshot, but well written. Can't really give it more than 3 stars as it was only 2 chapters.
The very worst of Sylvia Day (in my humble opinion). Completely unrealistic (both emotional-wise and event-wise). It's like somebody said to the author: "I bet you could not write a steam-punk novel in 2 hours!"
36 pages, an extreme short story with a leading man who reminded me again of Gideon Cross. What else can I say about this? It's well-written with insta-love/lust that ends with I guess a marriage proposal? So, yeah.
So I am a fan Sylvia Day's work and I have tried to read as much of her work that my library or wallet can provide. I'm hardly ever disappointed by Ms Day's works but I'm a bit conflicted on this piece.
I have read other reviews in regard to this novella and many have mentioned how short the piece is by I honestly did not think it was just going to be a mere twenty pages...
For what's there is pretty good. The setting is in Steampunk Victorian London after a war(something I don't think Ms. Day has done before). The heroine Annabella is a tinkerer/crafter/engineer? and the hero is a famous war hero who has a few body parts replaced by the modern technology. We get some of their pasts, a bit of who they are, what their desires are, why they desire each other and a very hot sizzling scene but all I keep thinking at the end of it was that I definitely could have more. Like 80 pages more.
So it's good for what it is but their definitely could have been more pages.
Some of my favorite books are short stories but this one felt too short. Short stories are the hardest to write because there's so much character and world building that goes on in such limited space that the balance is a lot of times off, I think that's what happened here. I hope there's a second one!
Extremely short but punchy. Great for a quickie-read. A steamy romance set in the steam-punk era. Think automatons, sophisticated and fantastical mechanisms and what a fully mechanized arm can do to a woman - mind blown. LOL!
I feel cheated because this tasty little sample jumped right into a hot sex scene, then left me hanging after the climax! Well clearly I must purchase the book to see what the young lady chooses! So far, so good. The title gives nothing away!
Too short to have any depth to the characters. Was told the author was better than E. L. James but not from what i have read so far. This is the Second Sylvia Day book I have read. I am hoping the longer stories will be more interesting.
Well that was....brief, I guess is the best word for it. It was an ok little story but so short I couldn't really enjoy it much. The small glimpse into the world the author created was very tantalizing and I would love to read a full length adventure set there.
