Some things in this recipe book for dogs seems unsafe for them. Be sure to check with you veterinarian before feeding your dog these recipes. Also make sure to exclude ingredients that may harm your dog. But cooking for your dog seems like a wonderful idea. Additionally, if store bought peanut butter has a lot of sugar in it, then why not make your own?
Has some nice recipes. Do some research and use this book as a tool. As always, talk to your vet, who may or may not feel cooking for your dog is good.
Have made several recipes for my dogs with this book! Especially for birthdays like the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and the applesauce cake! Also sweet potato treats that I made with barnyard cookie cutters :)
Since this is a recipe book, it's really more for reference than to read through from front to back at one time. But I've gotten some recipes in here that have "saved" me when my dogs wouldn't eat anything else.
It's tough for me to rate an idea/reference book, and that's what this will be for me. I already cook for my herd of doggies, so skimmed through much of the discussion of dog food vs. raw food vs. home cooking at the beginning. However, others who are faced with continuing pet food recalls and concerns about their dogs might find this helpful.
What I really wanted was the recipes. Paws up from my doggies (and me!) for the sweet potato chips. Yum! That's one of the things I loved about this book--elegantly simple foods made with real (and many times organic) ingredients that dogs and people can share. Not sure if that was the intent of the author, but it was a bonus for me. So thank you, Ms. Fortunato!
