If you are someone who loved the book, Divergent by Veronica Roth or its movie, this book will be a good choice to buy.

It consists of more than 100 photographs from the film.

We are introduced to initiates, various factions, and their specialties. The different manner in which the city of Chicago is shown in both the book and the intricate details of the plot, like the trains, the pit, the chasm, the dauntless, the infirmary, and the fence, are all well highlighted in this book. We are introduced to all the main characters and their unique characteristics. All the photos are carefully handpicked by Cecilia Bernard to make you more curious, even if you are familiar with the book and the movie.

5 Stars for a very wellrounded companion book that tries and succeeds in pulling the reader right into the world of Divergent.

I have yet to read the books but i want to know what is all about before i watch the movie.. In my opinion this companion helps a lot with simply understand the basic outline of Divergent's system and the main heroes that are a big part of it..

I found it quite informative nicely written, filled with many pictures from the motion picture and some vital details.. Like the factions and their characteristics..

Overall : A great companion for those who have no idea about the story and also for the fans.. I really can not wait for the movie.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- Very good lay-out.
- The pictures are nice.
- It sums everything up pretty neatly.

''INTELLIGENCE IS A GIFT, NOT A RIGHT. IT MUST BE WIELDED NOT AS A WEAPON BUT AS A TOOL FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OTHERS.—From the Erudite Faction Manifesto''

This is a nice little manual that will provide you with the basic information about the world of Divergent. If you've read the books than this book won't learn you anything that you don't already know, but there are some really cool pictures in this book...yes,hello there Miles Teller. This can come in handy if you don't have the time to reread the first book but you want to watch the movie, read the next part etc.

Instead of re-reading the book, having learned in the past that it will only ruin the movie from all the comparisons I'll make, I got a companion novel to the movie. Usually I don't buy these types of books until they are on sale for cheap (I got the Hunger Games Movie Companion at the Dollar Tree for a dollar) or as a gift. The Divergent Trilogy holds a special place in my heart though, having cried with each novel.

So I decided to buy it, and have read parts of it over the past few weeks in down time between other books. I just realized today that I've read some things more than once and I finished the book some time ago. I love the many pictures that depicted the communities, characters, and costumes. I have to say I'll probably use this as a drawing reference also.

I won't be seeing the movie until the next week, but I really hope to enjoy it.

SEMI-SPOILERS BELOW

What I still don't get is why so many people compare Divergent to the Hunger Games. The only real similarities are the split up communities, the wars that are coming, and female protagonists. I always felt the Hunger Games was more about the theme of war touching on the many complexities of it, it was also about power and desensitization. I felt like Divergent was more about some themes of wars, growing up and discovering yourself, sacrifice, and relationships in all forms. I don't know, sometimes I felt like Katniss just wanted to survive (and keep her family and friends alive). Katniss was pushed more into her decisions (what kind of choice do you really have when your little sister is to be thrown to her death or accidently becoming a beacon of hope for the people). Tris has to make her decisions, like choosing Dauntless.

They're just so different to me, I'd also like to read Battle Royale to see how close it is to the Hunger Games. I just feel like Divergent is its own piece and most people just say it's Hunger Games rewritten, but there's no kids being forced into a ring to fight to the death, they chose where they belong (even though some of the factions are more like cults...). Anyways, I'm done ranting because I read both, and I enjoyed both.

That was cool. Completely useless, but cool. Obviously I already knew all of the information, so I just flipped through the pictures. But the pictures were cool.

So first and foremost I would like to say that the very best description of this book is to say its the spark notes version of Divergent mixed in with a really good picture book. If you are wanting a good book to read go pick up Divergent otherwise your just gonna find yourself sitting in a place like me thinking...why did I pick up this book when I really should've just bought the US Weekly Magazine for $4. If you don't really have the time/patience/desire to read the actual book then sure go read this it will catch you up on everything that happens in Divergent....but most likely if you are having any of those excuses not to just read the book you're probably not even gonna consider reading this book, or this review, and you are probably just gonna watch the movie....so yeah just go do that.

This is a cool little book :) Full of spoilers so I wouldn't read it unless you've already read Divergent. But I loved that there were quotes spread all through it, because I'm hoping those are direct movie quotes. If they are (which I'm pretty sure they are), there are a lot that are direct from the book and I'm WAY into that. There's also a lot of stills that are very familiar from scenes from the book. I'm getting very excited!

"Cruel thoughts lead to cruel words, and hurt you as much as they hurt their target."

An interesting insight on factions and the initiates, but it does provide little new information. If you read the book or at least paid attention while watching Divergent, you have no need for this. Only hardcore fans of Divergent have probably bought and read this book. 😅😅😅

El primer libro es tremendo, una obra de arte. A partir de ahí la saga empeora mucho y me da pena porque era uno de mis libros favoritos. Aún así merece la pena leérselo porque no te aburres nunca.

I waited to buy this one until I was sure that the movie wasn’t awful (it’s not – go see it). I bought it along with the Divergent Illustrated Movie Companion. If you have the money to buy both, I would say to buy both. If you can only get one, I would say to go with the Illustrated Movie Companion.

The Illustrated Movie Companion has lots of behind the scenes stuff, while this book stays inside the story of Divergent. It reminds me a lot of The Hunger Games Tribute Guide from the first Hunger Games movie.

It was nice looking at this book, but it didn’t add anything to my knowledge of the Divergent story. I would say it’s more useful for those people who have seen the movie but haven’t read the books (but really, I would just advise those people to read the novel and be done with).

My only real complaint is that I’m not sure how valid the information inside the book is…it’s almost like it was written by someone who hadn’t done their homework. For example, it lists Al as being from Amity, which accounts for his peaceful nature etc etc. But book readers know that Al was one of the Candor transfers, and even in the photo next to his write up it looks like he is wearing black and white??? So that seems like a pretty big mistake.

I wouldn’t buy this book looking for any new information, but it was a nice thing to add to my collection.

Review Taken from The Pewter Wolf

Inside Divergent: The Initiate's World is a small book that brushes over Veronica's Roth's dystopian Chicago. With photos from the movie, the book explains the five Factors, a few characters within the story and explains the steps the initiates take from the aptitude test to Choosing Day and beyond.

Ok, let me state this now. If you have read Divergent or the whole trilogy, you do not need this book. This book gives you information that you have already read from the trilogy. So, you don't need it. Borrow it from your local library if you can as you will want to see the photos used (my fave is on page 42 and 43, solely because of the woman's facial expression. Thank you nameless extra!)

However, if you haven't read the trilogy, then this book will help you get a better understanding of the movie. It doesn't matter if you wish to read this before you watch the movie or if you read this afterward your viewing, this helps give information that was either hinted at within the film or will help you get a better grip of why the film is the way it is.

A nice book with great photos, but more a must read for those curious over the movie than the people who have read the trilogy.

This guide was great and very helpful. If you have already finished the whole series, this book will not help you understand divergent but it will still be a fun read and a better way to understand the faction lifestyle. If you have only read some of the first book or all of it, this book is a helpful way to understand the series. It will help you learn about the clothing, personalities, morals, and teachings of the factions. Most of all, this book teaches about dauntless initiates, members, leaders, lifestyle, initiation, training, values, and finally personalities. All in all, this is a great and helpful book that all divergent fans should read.

Inside Divergent: The Initiate's World is a great book for people who have yet to read the Divergent series by Veronica Roth but intend to watch the movie. It provides basic information regarding the world and the faction system.

Personally, I found the book to be okay as I have read and watched Divergent. However, this gets a thumbs up because it had an image of the Visiting Day in Divergent that was not included in the movie. For that sole reason, it raised up its score.

This was a really interesting movie tie in to the Divergent series. A friend shared this with me and it's a nice easy read. Snippets of information about the story that help the movie watcher with additional details not quite explained on the screen.

I enjoyed reading the series. It was action packed with twist and turns and surprises. I liked the first movie too. After reading this little book I was reminded how much I enjoyed the stories.

Every book basde movie must have following guide book to advertise or promote upcomeing movie. For readers and fans that is totaly pointless. Those who red Divergent trilogy already knows all about characters and locations. Book with few quotes and pictures from movie won't help anyone to go to movie or read a book.
Don't bother with this one.

This is free on Amazon as of 3/13. Get it while you can!

Considering I read Divergent a long time ago I thought this was a very nice recap on the factions and how the world works. I want to go see the movie and don't have time to read the whole book over again. I also loved the pictures and they made me want to see the movie even more!

If you've read the books, this won't tell you anything you don't already know. But, if we put that aside, it was actually a really good read.

It definitely refreshed my brain in time for the movie and I loved the movie photos. (Theo James, you will love me).

Also good to be used as an encyclopedia to help new readers understand the different elements of the Divergent story.

I only picked this book up from my shelf because I was waiting for another book. I remember being so excited about it and it's good really, just now I feel like they exaggerated everything a little too much. I definitely recommend it if you want to watch the movie and haven't read the books in a while.

It is perfect for fans who haven't read the books but have seen the movie. As for the readers of the divergent series, like I am, it didnt contain any new information but it has great pictures from the movie that I got to fangirl over Theo James as long as I like :P

I can't believe no one noticed that this book says Al's faction of origin is Amity. Al's faction of origin is Candor. Even the movie says so. And, what does it add exactly? If you watched the movie, don't waste your time reading this.

Quite a simplistic guide to the film. I suspect it would be handy if you'd not read the books but I knew it all from having read them. The pictures are nice though
