Nightmare in Aurora is a fictionalized tale, based on an actual horrific and nearly deadly event and the people, who were involved, whether willingly or by sheer chance, do actually exist. From the main character, Charley and his roommate, Tom, to the lead detectives charged with seeking the truth in this tale of lies and deceit, to the crime scene investigators and the witnesses, they are all actual persons and all played a role in the search for the truth and justice. In every case, I have changed the names of those depicted here. However, the book contains many of the actual police reports written by the different police officers involved in all aspects of the investigation. Reports filed by the lead detectives in the case, by crime scene investigators, uniformed officers that had responded to calls for help from one of their own, as well as from Charley and his roommate Tom, who at first believed to be suspects, were actually victims. Also included are the reports filed by the trigger-happy, newly promoted, deceitful detective responsible for this event in its entirety. Even the statements collected from witnesses to the carnage described are included and told in their own words. However, in an attempt to allow the reader to see and understand the entire story as it unfolded, some of the content had to be dramatized. I have written the book in the first person so the reader will feel as though they are sitting across from Charley, the main character, as he takes you along as he describes his life from his earliest memories. As your reading his story, he tells of the traumas he experienced, the battles he was forced to fight growing up, and how he learned to overcome powers much stronger than his own, right up to the moment he relates the horrors he experienced in May of 1973 and the several months following. This, I believe, will allow the reader to experience with Charley everything he had to endure, during this five month long nightmare, as though they we
This book is written in the first person. It is a story about what happens to people who are betrayed by their friends, corruption by the police and what people will do to be popular. It tells of the choices that people have to make in their lives and the consequences of those choices. I received this book free from the author/goodreads for an honest review
REVIEW Mr. Pfirrman writes a fictional tale based on a real horrific event that actually could have ended in death. The events were taken from police reports. The people who are involved, willingly or by chance, actually exist. The story is written in first person and the character's names have been changed. He starts the book by telling how they ended up in Aurora. This starts the e vents that end up in a night of close encounter with death and spending three days in jail. The character, Charlie was trying to help the local authorities in finding two missing girls. What happens for his efforts? He ends up the subject of the investigation. Someone shoots at him twice and he eventually ends up in jail. Everyday the questioning continues and the answers are always the same. Finally he is found innocent and they let him go, smack dab right into a whole circle of new problems. He finally had to leave the Air Force and go to Colorado. The entire night would never have happened if the police had filed their reports on time. As you turn the pages the excitement mounts. You never know what will happen when you turn the page. Charley finds out of a friend's betrayal and how he has to fight once again for justice and freedom. How did Charley end up in Jail in the first place? Was the police department corrupt? Was Charley actually guilty? I'd like to tell you more but that would give all the good parts away. You will definitely want to read this book if you like mystery, suspense, thrillers, who dun it, or you just want a good read. Grab a copy of NIGHTMARE IN AURORA and follow Charley in his NIGHTMARE IN AURORA. The book is a page turner and it will put you on the edge of your seat at times. It will have you in tears one minute and the next you can't help but smile. The saga continues in THE DEADLY GAME OF BETRAYAL.
I would give this book 5 STARS.
I was given a complimentary copy of NIGHTMARE IN AURORA form the author William Pfirrman for my personal view of the book. I received no other compensation.
I received this book in an e-book, from the author William Pfirrmam. The events he writes about actually happen as he has taken from police reports. He of course has changed the names of the characters and has written the story in first person so we the readers get the full effect of the story. That really works for me and the story. After he brings you up to how they end up in Aurora. He starts the chain of events that lead to a night of near death and three days in jail. Each day being question and not in the most pleasant way, but always sticking to the same story. Finally the lead detective had to look in a different direction. This lead to his release but also to a whole another set of problems. To where he finally had to leave the Air Force and had to leave Colorado. The whole night in question that started everything could have been avoided if police reports would have been filed on time. This is just one thing. I don’t want to give a way to much. Mr. Pfirrman, though makes this a great read, very exciting. I did not stop once the action part started going until I finished. I enjoy books like that.
I received this book from a Goodreads First Reads Giveaway. This was a fun, fast, short read that was refreshing. Right what I needed. I liked the detail in the story, very thorough and challenged the reader to figure out the next scene by adding up the details. The only thing I didn't care for was how the author hinted at Tom's betrayal, but didn't reveal it until the last few chapters. It would have been nice to get more detail on how Tom developed his nasty little plan. Then again, maybe the author didn't want to know or Tom wouldn't allow him to know. I liked that the end of the book gave an update on Tom too. That surprised me. I was hoping to find out a little more about what happened after leaving Colorado, but there was no mention of the details or why he returned 40 years later. That made me curious, but I understand and enjoyed where the story ended. The update on Tom was a surprise and not typical for me in other reads, so I found that very creative.

I really enjoyed this book. I love to read about things that actually happened, and I also enjoy crime books. This had both. The story was very compelling and I felt that I just had to know what happened next. Sometimes, it got a bit technical for me, as it included the police reports. Those, I sometimes just skimmed over. Other than that, however, which I understand was unavoidable it was well written, except for the few time when it seemed like it randomly changed point of view in the middle of a chapter. I would recommend this to anyone who likes true crime stories.
