*I received this book free from Drue’s Random Chatter in exchange for an honest review*
First of all I have to say that this book had me conflicted. It is so very long and I thought that some of the scenes could have been edited out without loss to the storyline, but at the same time I enjoyed reading every last detail. However, it did start kind of slow for me and with its length it seemed to take FOREVER to get to the really good stuff, but it was well worth the wait.
Tony Walters, Walters Construction, hasn’t had it easy when it came to matters of the heart. He has a psycho ex who randomly shows up to cause trouble in not only his life, but also their children’s. He got to basically be a single dad of two incredible, but now grown, children. Lucky for him, he’s surrounded by a network of loving family and friends.
Nikki once had the life she’d wanted, a wonderful husband and two lovely children, but they were all taken tragically from her, and until Tony she hadn’t recovered from the loss. She didn’t have a support group like he did, her family basically forgot she existed, and she was left to herself. Utterly alone.
But what happens when two people take a chance…they end up happy. Well, after someone stops trying to kill them anyway.
This books has an engaging love story, a who did it and who keeps doing it type of mystery, murder, steamy sex, humor, and a family twist that leaves you saying “HUH! Didn’t see that!” Even if you saw some of it coming, I can guarantee that you do not see all of it.
My Favorite Laughable Moments: This book has lots of little things throughout it that made me laugh, but nothing like Tony trying to talk to his son, Clayton, about sex and dating. I laughed soooo hard at Clayton’s reactions!
“Shit! Really, Dad? I can’t believe you asked me that!”
“Oh, no! I don’t want to know! I don’t even want to think about that. Aw, man.”
“Noooooo! Oversharing! I don’t want to hear this! Please!!!”
Or when Tony confesses to Nikki about his last sexual encounter(s). OMG! Tony is definitely the team player…that’s all I can say without giving it away! But his confessions were hilarious!!!
“Well, she believed if you were going to do it to somebody, you should allow it to be done to you. And if you wanted it done to you, you should have to learn to do it to somebody else.”
