The pressure to conform made my need to escape inescapable and overpowering.

★✩★✩★ 5+ Dude can Tempt ME Anytime ;) Stars ★✩★✩★

~this review may contain minor spoilers~

“tell me you're not interested or tempted to take what we've got to the next level. I know what you feel. I have that same bloody desire. Together we can satisfy one another. One night. What have you got to lose?”

Eliza escaped an abusive past only to be pulled into the restricting web of her over-protective sister. She does love her sister, immeasurably, she is the only family she has left and took her in when she had no where to go, but she has begun to feel stifled, suffocated, and caged in. She is desperate to find some direction in her life, a place where she can flourish and discover herself, and maybe some way to curb her off-the-wall behavior and unpredictable temper. Then HE walks into her yoga class and changes everything. Graham Gordon has a presence that cannot be ignored and comes from a rich and powerful world she can't even begin to comprehend, but try as she might, she can't shake the man from her thoughts... or fantasies. When he requests her for a private yoga session, and presents her with an unorthodox proposal, he unleashes a deeply hidden desire Eliza never knew she had; a desire to be dominated completely, by him, in any way he chooses. Now she must decide if she has the strength and courage to take him up on his offer.

For once, I was going to pursue a girl so far outside the world where I normally found partners. I'd bank my business that I'd have her before I headed back to New York. Fuck. I'd take her with me to New York.

These characters had me captivated right from the beginning; the chemistry between them jumped clean off the pages, yet their personalities clashed at times causing some heated encounters. Graham saw the submissive in Eliza, even if she didn't, and would stop at nothing to get her exactly where he wanted her. The man knew no boundaries when it came to getting what he wanted and was just the kind of dirty-sexy-dominating that I wholeheartedly drool for. There was a ton of sex in this book; not so much that is took over the story, but enough that you were held in a lust induced haze that left me a gibbering hott mess... and it was friggin awesome! The build up alone set my panties on fire, and this is only the beginning. The world that Graham is introducing Eliza to is like nothing she has ever experienced, and I loved that he takes the time to explain things to her; he wants to make sure that there are no doubts or questions about exactly what he wants her to sign up for and we learn everything right along side of her. It was the perfect start to what promises to be an enthralling temptation... I mean series ;)

“You will learn to submit to me. I aim to be in charge of you without question. It's a matter of time before you understand all that entails.”

You’ll never know what you’ll like until you try it. Never has that been a more true statement to Eliza.

This book is the story of your typical kinky, rich CEO businessman on the prowl for a submissive. While this book has lots of pretty hot sex in it, none of it’s kinky so if you’re put off by the possibility of kink then rest assured, there’s none in this story. But then if you find kink offensive then seriously, why buy this book!! Or why are you looking in this genre!!! Lol.

So anyway, I digress….Kinky, controlling businessman has his sights on downtrodden, but beautiful Eliza. And so the sex begins! This book is about setting up the relationship, sorting out the contract, sharing hard/soft limits etc. There’s not a lot of time to actually explore what makes Graham tick. (Seriously? Graham? Alpha man called Graham??)

We know a bit more background about Eliza. I call her downtrodden because she was one of those kids who wasn’t wanted, then grew up with a sister who was just a little bit protective and too stifling. Always just willing to go along with the flow, never challenging anything or anyone, just content to lead a very mundane life.

Meeting Graham is giving Eliza the chance to spread her wings and grow into a swan. She’s not a virgin but she’s very inexperienced and I think Graham is going to give her the education of a lifetime!!

This probably sounds all a bit too 50 shades but I liked 50 shades lol. Yes it is along the same lines, as are a lot of books.

And that’s about it, that’s what the book is about. Now the author….well this is the first book I’ve read by her and I am pleasantly surprised. She writes great sex scenes and I mean sex scenes that will make your toes curl and my dick hard. She doesn’t use any flowery words for body parts….a cock is a cock and a pussy is, well a pussy. I can’t wait to start book 2 later on tonight. I’m thinking book two will have more steamy sex with an extra helping of kink thrown in for good measure. I’ve certainly got my box of tissues ready :-)

Tempted (Playing The Edge #1) by Susan Arden

Jane Hunt Writer First Steps

Jane Hunt Writer Book Reviews Facebook

Jane Hunt Writer Book Reviews Google+

'Tempted' is the first taste of what promises to be a tempestuous relationship between Eliza a reluctant yoga teacher and Graham an ultra powerful and rich business man. This is not a 'Fifty Shades' story although there are some obvious similarities. The age gap between Eliza and Graham makes it more like an erotic 'Pygmalion.'

Eliza is easy to empathise with, although you can see why she frustrates her sister, when she seems hell bent on turning self expression into self destruction. I like the setting of this story in the world of Yoga. The first person point of view gives the story an edgy, rawness. Eliza's emotions, fears and reactions are more immediate.

Graham is harder to like because of his overt dominance but he is a fascinating character. His point of view illustrates perfectly the depth of his controlling nature. Eliza threatens his control from their first unspoken meeting. He craves her but fears she will jeopardise the foundations of his existence.

The sensuality between Eliza and Graham is immediate. The couple's first erotic encounters are steamy and mesmerizing and the perfect appetiser for what is to come, if Eliza accepts Graham's offer.

Realistic emotional responses echo the story's eroticism. The reader is drawn into Eliza' world and can enjoy a few 'what if ' moments as Eliza makes a life changing choice.

I am interested to see what happens next in this mature adult read.

PSYCHOCAT READS REVIEW OF TEMPTED BY SUSAN ARDEN

Susan has been teasing us on Twitter with the release of the Playing the Edge books for a while now, so I was thrilled to see the release date come and Tempted and Secuded make their way onto the schedule. Since there's so much going on today, let's jump right to the review.

The Characters: Books like these always seem to come with some comparison to 50 Shades. This time around I was thrilled to find a girl with a bit ore grit and a lot more spine. Yes, Eliza comes with her own set of issues, but she's not the cowering type. I rather like her. Hell, I bet she'd be fun on the blog.

Graham has the requisite appetites and bank account for a book like this, but I found him more likeable by far than some other characters in similar situations. I'm sure we're going to uncover more layers as the series progresses, and I can't wait to see what we learn.

The Relationships: Eliza's life seems full of interseting relationships. She and her sister have a unique dynamic full of both love and strain. She also has a set of friends that appear important to her. Yes the book is mostly about her and Graham, but I was happy to see Susan avoid the trap of forgeting everyone else.

The Smut: I'll take a cold shower and a bottle of something strong! Yes please. More. Thank you!

Seriously though, not for the faint of heart, but if you fall into that category, you probably stopped reading long before you got to this point on the page. It's graphic, it's well-writtten, and it's hot as fucking hell.

The Book as Part of a Series: A great opening novel for what promises to be a steamy trilogy. I'm just glad I had book 2 already loaded and ready to go!

Jen's Final Rating: 5 STARS! A crack-laced novel that had me addicted to the last page!

Psychocat's Final Rating: She stormed off in a huff, claws bared. Something about Abe. I wasn't stupid enough to try and stop her, nor was I even remotely inclined to.

This is my first book by Susan Arden and I am completely shocked! I couldn't put the book down! The characters were all so real. This is the type of book you were craving to read after Fifty Shades of Grey. The sex scenes in this book are scorching hot. Susan Arden knows how to write some steamy scenes!
Tempted is the first book in the Playing The Ede trilogy and this looks to be an amazing series. Eliza is a yoga instructor at her sister's studio. When Eliza is not at the studio, she spends her time partying with no worries in the world. She just gets by each day to start it all over again. From this book you know as a reader she has had an abusive past and tries to block that out of her memory. One day she teaches yoga and locks eyes on Graham. Graham, is extremely stressed and taking yoga to relieve some of the stress. He is flifhy rich and owns his own company. When he locks with Eliza, he knows that he will give it his all to have her in his life.

Graham is a looking for a submissive to satisfy his kinky side and Eliza is just the one to fill that role. Graham hires Eliza to give him a private yoga class. When Eliza shows up, Graham and her cannot hide the attraction they have for each. Graham asks Eliza to be with him for a six months; be his personal assistant and and freak between the sheets. ;)
I'm very much looking forward to the other two books in this series to find out what happens with Graham and Eliza.

ARC for Review

Eliza is teaching yoga at her sister’s business while deciding what she wants to do in life. She is partying late at night drinking in access while out in South Beach club scene. She recently went to India for mediation classes but instead found herself partying and not going to any of the classes.

Wanting to break free from her older sister smothering but does not quite know how to. She also still suffers from her step father abuse knowing her mom died at her birth but returned to her third husband beforehand. Change does not come without a price.

In steps Graham Gordon a successful business who pops into one of her classes. There is attraction between them as they eyes kept meeting throughout the class. She tries to avoid him but he hires for a private lesson at his place.

He is a man who gets what he wants no matter and he wants Eliza, He ends up having her during their private class and offers a six month contract. He wants to take her to the edge sexually into the world of BDSM and his insatiable need for sex.

Is this what Eliza really craves or is this another form of being abuse? Can she find what she really needs by taking up his offer or will she be just another victim?

The only other Susan Arden book I have read and reviewed was a shifter one. So I was intrigued when I read the blurb for this one. I read it in one go, I couldn't put it down. I loved everything about this book.

Susan Arden is an established author so the talented ability she has to capture your attention is amazing. This book will pull your emotions, there were times I wanted to shake Eliza and her sister but understand why, plenty of OMG, emotional moments that brought lumps to my throat. And not to Forget a HOT ALPHA MALE.

I loved the story and characters They each brought their own something to the story. I loved how Eliza came out of herself with Graham. The beautiful way it was written had me picturing the scene vividly. I almost felt like I was there. I couldn't turn the pages quick enough.

This is an amazing story. And one I recommend you add to your "tbr" list. But be sure to have the next book ready to read.

I give this 5/5 stars and 4/5 movie moments.

I am always excited to read something new from Susan Arden, and Playing the Edge series is no exception!! This book is quick paced and you get to know the characters in a fast but comprehensive way. Eliza is an amazingly strong woman, even though she's still trying to find her way. She is at a crossroads in her life and working on making the right decisions for herself. Working for her sister she meets Graham, a man who she can't ignore and is captivated by his eyes and body, but she isn't alone, he longs for her as well. They wind up running into one another and Graham keeps pursuing Eliza despite her initial rejections. When she winds up taking him on as a private yoga student, Graham makes Eliza an offer she can't refuse. Will she learn and know what it means to submit to a man like him?

Soo hot you will need a change of panties!! Can't wait for more!!

Eliza encounters a gorgeous man during her yoga class who completely distracts her. When he asks her out and she refuses, he then contracts her for a private lesson. Graham is a man that doesn't take no for an answer and proposes an arrangement that will challenge and entice her in ways she couldn't imagine. She has to decide if she wants to go to the edge of everything with him.

I am just so intrigued by Eliza. I want to know more about her. I like her with Graham very much as I think she will challenge him as well. Now talk about sexy. That Graham man is and knows it. Their moments shared are scorching hot. I am talking forget the glass of water. You're going to need a damn fire hose to cool off. I really can't wait to read what happens next for them.

I give Tempted 5 hearts!

Eliza Hillwood, is stuck in her life, teaching yoga and living under the scrutiny of her sister. She’s a restless soul, looking for something more, without even knowing what that something is. Turns out the dark stranger that drops in to her class one night is just what she needs, and so much more. Will she take the leap into the unknown and step through the door he is holding open for her? The door that could lead to immeasurable sexual pleasure and escape from her life.

Susan Arden has done an amazing job at painting the emotional landscape of Eliza and Graham, not to mention the incredibly steamy sex scenes. Tempted definitely hooked me, line and sinker, and I cannot wait to read the following part to Eliza's and Graham’s story.

What a great start to a very promising series! I was very pleased with this book. I found it a little unbelievable as far as time frame goes but this is so steamy and hot that you forget it has only been a few hours! I really like the way this series is heading and I am very excited to see what happens in the next installment. I think Gordon is going to be a very sexy character that we will all love. I like getting some of his POV. It helps to make the time frame a little more believable. The time frame of the situations is the only hang up I have and it is holding me back from the 5 stars a story like this needs. It makes the story too hard to believe. Aside from that this is a great book!!! I am excited for this series and look forward to more!

Eliza is a yoga instructor at her sisters studio, she is parties too much and gets by day to day but the spark of life was taken from her existence by an abusive past, until she locks eyes with Gram across her studio during a yoga class.

Graham is filthy rich, overworked and extremely stressed. His doctor insists he start taking med or find a way to handless stress. He takes a yoga class and discovers Eliza. Stress relief will take on a whole new meaning.

This book is steamy, hot, squirm in your seat erotic… I really enjoyed it and I hope you do also.

I seriously need to read more by this author as this was a fantastic read.

Graham is a really sexy businessman. He always gets what he wants and he wants Eliza. He hires Eliza for a private lesson of yoga at his house after she turns him down. Will Eliza submit and enter Graham's life with bdsm?

This author has a great way with words. I was totally gripped and looking forward to reading book two.

In Susan Arden’s Playing the Edge series, Tempted #1 we meet Eliza. Her life is pretty uneventful. She lives with and works for her older, overbearing sister at her yoga studio but one day, Eliza’s luck changes. A handsome man walks into her class one day and they both instantly feel a connection. A few days later Graham Gordon schedules a private yoga less with Eliza and makes her an offer she can’t refuse-enter into a sexual contract with him for 6 months and he will “train” her in BDSM.

I didn't like it that much. I thought the plot was a good one, and more could have been done with it. I didn't like the characters. I felt like they kept talking about honesty and how important it was, but they weren't honest at all. Not only were they hiding things by going around on the subject and never saying what they really wanted to say, they also didn't feel real. When we finally get the two main characters in a room ready to talk (we been waiting for it to happen for 40% of the book). The conversation doesn't feel real. It feels force and pretentious. They talk about being honest but take forever to say what they want. I think that conversation could have been a lot shorter and more effective. When they finally get to the part were they have sex, it too feels uncomfortable. It feels force too. Just like their conversations. Then, this book has a very sudden ending. And I don't mean it ended on a cliffhanger. It ended right after they had sex. After I read the ending and realized that it was the ending I had a moment of, "that's it?" I honestly thought that I was half way through the book. Or, at least 30%. This book could have been a lot longer. It needed to be a lot longer. And guess what? The only reason that it isn't longer, is because the author cut the book in two parts. They both release on the same day. You just have to pay for them separately. If the author just wanted to make more money she should have publish everything as a single book and sell it at the combine price.

Obviously this book is a Fifty Shades fan fiction. I actually found out about this book when I read the first chapter on fanfiction.net. It had the name of the Fifty Shades characters and if you wanted to read more you had to buy the book. The first chapter was good enough that I wanted to give it a try. But, I don't think it was worth it. There are many other stories on fanfiction that are better than this one. If you want to read a Fanfiction story about Fifty Shades that feel entertaining, original, and well written. Then you are better off reading: "Fifty Shades: Slow and Steady" by Mrs. Fraser or "Paging Dr. Steele" by Bronze Goddess. And guess what? You don't have to pay to read them.

I don't recommend anyone to read this book. I'm going to be honest and say that I will read the second book, because I'm one of those people that after I start a series I have to finish it. Just to see where it goes. This book didn't feel like a erotica and it didn't feel like a drama. It lack the sexiness of erotica and the complexity of a drama.

What makes this book wonderful is the characters are flawed. Graham who is seemingly perfect has issues whether it be health, need for control or his past is still flawed. No character in this story is not untouched with some past or guilt. We do not see characters that cannot be emphasized with in some way. Our two main characters are finding their way in some form or another. Their way is to each other and unbeknownst to each other their bond may help them heal. Be what each other needs. graham has a issue his friend says he needs to do something to relax for. This leads him to Eliza’s yoga class and instant sparks occur. Both trying to have control, fight the urge but for Graham that seems to be too much and he comes back. For Eliza her past and desire to her sister while taming the dragon within keeps her from acting. She is lost in a sea of anger, confusion and her past. Trying not to become what her stepfather says she is, being who her sister needs while figuring out who she is and what she wants pays a price. So when graham offers her to learn control and about herself she resists at first but soon realizes resistance is futile and submits. Their chemistry is explosive in the bedroom and we begin to see it out of the bed as well. Graham has her trusting while she has him learning to feel again. Both are resistant though as fear overwhelms them. For Graham fear of abandonment and her leaving and Eliza fear of losing herself to him completely. A wonderfully written book about finding oneself and someone to help you heal and feel safe. Hopefully these two will learn to truly open up to one another and be together in everyway possible. A note there is some erotic scenes that will have you toasty so if the idea of eroticism in your intimacy isn’t for you you may want to stay away. If you can go beyond this the story is well worth the read as we explore some serious topics and see two people who need one another for support and love to help each other begin to heal and become who they are meant to be together and apart this book is for you. This first in the series brings these two together so that we can begin to see the relationship play out.

Eliza's life is a bit chaotic. After escaping from an abusive step-father she has been under the care of her sister since she was a teenager. She is teaching a class in her sister's yoga studio when she locks eyes with a drop-in client and has a pretty intense experience. Graham Gordon is a powerful CEO who has an equally intense experience when he locks eyes with his yoga instructor. Graham is someone who goes after and gets what he wants, and he knows that he wants Eliza. During a private yoga session, Graham shows Eliza how much he wants her and makes her an offer that is both scary and tempting.

There are lots of FSOG parallels going on here. There is quick chemistry between the main characters followed by an offer for financial security and much pleasure if Eliza will offer her submission to Graham for six months. He gives her a sample of just how much pleasure he can give her. Their physical chemistry is just as intense as they both knew it would be. Eliza is at a point in her life where she knows that she doesn't have much direction, and the idea of this sexy powerful man giving her not only focus and pleasure, but also a reference that could help her sister's business. Even though it seems like a lot of time passes in this story, it is actually only a couple days. Eliza is fairly inexperienced sexually, and Graham is ready to teach her about submission and control. Eliza has a tough decision to make, and we are left wondering what that decision will be. Some of the dialogue is a little disjointed, but it feels like we the reader are sometimes confused along with the characters. As they both struggle with their own feelings, and try to figure their way through the beginnings of an unconventional relationship, the tension between them ebbs and flows.

The beginning was rather disjointed, but once I got a couple of chapters in it was easier to follow. Obviously, it the book was meant to be a fun read and not something that people would contemplate like Shakespeare, but still, within the genre, the first couple of chapter required me to backtrack and try to figure out what the heck was going on. I kept on reading because I knew it was a short book so that it wouldn't require a significant time investment, and I'm glad I stuck with it.

If nothing else, the author was able to differentiate the internal monologue of Graham and Eliza, which is certainly worth complimenting.

This is the first book of a series & I really did like it. I really can't stand Eliza, she is one of the most annoying females I've ever read about. The story is really good & so is the writing. I absolutely loved Graham & I'm hoping he gets her ass in line. Eliza is an immature 22year old yoga instructor who lives with her pregnant sister & brother-in-law in Miami. Graham is a very rich Dominant who takes one of her yoga classes & feels an immediate attraction to Eliza. He makes her an offer to come with him to New York City for six months.

Eh...it was ok. That's all that I really can say about this book, I went in thinking that 'OMG, I'm gonna L-O-V-E, LOVE this book', and really I only liked it. There were some parts (very few) that reached great heights...but the rest of it was just kind of slow...and took a while to get to where it needed to go. I can't say that I would reccommend it...but I can't say that I wouldn't either.
