Only one man and one woman can stop a deadly new virus in this thrilling final volume of the series. Beautiful, brilliant Dr. Sophie Daniels was imprisoned and has escaped, but is now trapped in her San Francisco home with the only antidote to a deadly, engineered virus that destroys the brain. The virus is spreading like wildfire, turning people into violent monsters. At the same time, real fires too are breaking out all over the city. Former elite soldier Jon Ryan volunteers for the Doomsday suicide mission to rescue Sophie and the antidote. Together they must run for their lives, avoid fires and a swarm of blood-spattered monsters before they can reach Haven. For them to succeed, Sophie must place her life--and her heart--in Jon's hands. Years of combat training has prepared Jon for this moment--unafraid, nothing is too dangerous now that he's found Sophie. He will risk everything, fight anyone, for her and a future filled with hope and love.
Lisa Marie Rice is eternally 30 years old and will never age. She is tall and willowy and beautiful. Men drop at her feet like ripe pears. She has won every major book prize in the world. She is a black belt with advanced degrees in archaeology, nuclear physics, and Tibetan literature. She is a concert pianist. Did I mention her Nobel Prize? Of course, Lisa Marie Rice is a virtual woman and exists only at the keyboard when writing erotic romance. She disappears when the monitor winks off.
Terrible, obviously, but weirdly entertaining as you can see from the status updates.
The gist: saintly virologist and manly super-soldier have to get a vaccine from zombie-decimated San Francisco to the good-guy compound in northern California--but they can barely stop fucking long enough to make it to the corner store.
His dick sproinged out. He toed off his boots, stepped away from his pants, and they both looked down at his dick, flushed with eagerness, shiny with pre-come at the tip, so hard it was practically flat against his stomach.
She looked up at him. “That’s quite something.”
He had no air in his lungs to answer her and even if he did have some air, he had no words. He just looked at her dumbly, like an animal hoping for a treat.
The series finale takes us into apocalypse California. Nothing too special, yet mildly gripping. Too much sex, but this is an erotic thriller, so what did I expect? Sophie is a "paranormal healer" and a dedicated virologist living in San Francisco. When her boss creates a super-soldier (zombie-like) virus and it goes viral, she steals the vaccine. Soon Jon, an undercover Ghost Op, sneaks into her San Francisco condo to rescue her (and the vaccine) from hoards of infected humans — inhuman monsters. Together, they must rush the vaccine to a place dubbed Haven, up on Blue Mountain, in Northern California.
Jon and Sophie fall into lusty love immediately. It was actually funny. Monsters pound at the door while he falls into her arms, soon pounding into her. (According to Rice, he was hard, harder, hardest, and getting long, longer, longer with every breath.)
So the series concluded with this almost comedic zombie thriller. Apocalypse California. Only 4% survive the carnage wrought by the monster-making virus. As if the virus weren't enough fodder for a solid story, several obvious plot contrivances created added tension..
Writing style: Rice is a fair writer, using some uncommon words, peppering the narrative with descriptive details and catching my attention with interesting factoids. She describes some vivid action scenes, creating an adrenaline flow. However, she repeats herself too much. It felt like filler. She described the backstory of the Ghost Ops and the creation of the Haven more than once. More than once she described how Stella (former actress and current chef) has a slashed face. Numerous redundant descriptions of the infected humans behaving like maddened zombies. Too much thinking (but not nearly as much as occurs in her previous books).
On the positive side, I liked Jon and Sophie. Glad that Rice refrained from repeatedly describing how beautiful Sophie is. Plus, we see plenty of loving moments between couples from prequels: Catherine and Mac, Ellie and Nick, Lucius Ward and Stella.
Also, the author captured the San Francisco setting nicely: Beach Street, Ghiradelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Buena Vista Cafe, etc. Some vivid scenes escaping the "swarm" of infected psychos on the streets of San Francisco.
Epilogue occurs five years later. Married with kiddos in the new Republic. Charming.
Continuing the adventure of three soldiers considered traitors by their own country and have developed an alternative self sufficient community, Haven, now is Jon Ryan`s time to show his fighting power . The best strategist and tracker of the group, also composed by Mac and Nick, have a responsibility to bring safe and sound to Haven the great virologist and Elle`s best friend, Sophie Daniels . Sophie and Ellen worked together in Arka Pharmacauticals and it was her who prompted Ellen to flee because all scientists from Arka were being captured. Ellen ran away, but Sophie was not so lucky. Later they discovered that Sophie had managed to escape and still managed to steal the vaccine that cured the plague virus created by Dr. Lee , at Arka`s Lab.
This virus was intended to create a super soldier, but in this place gave life to a horrible, strong, fast creature, but with no logical reasoning or motor control. They became almost zombies. And every infected person could spread the pest to many others. The city of San Francisco was besieged and few people could keep themselves alive.
Jon achieves Sophie and while waiting for the best opportunity to escape, they surrendered an attraction unprecedented in their lives. The fellowship of days together brought back the past of each. The horrible life of Jon, being the son of a couple of drug addicts and knowing the horror of being totally neglected. And the heavy burden of responsibility to Sophie, who had a unique gift of healing people. Together they held the cure for the human race did not end amid a swarm of destructive beings. And the hope of a future that neither of them had planned...
Lisa Marie closes the Ghost Ops series the best way ever. Mac, Nick and now Jon, showed their firepower and how each found their own heaven. The dialogues are great, with engaging characters. The pace of the story holds the reader with several passages sometimes romantic, sometimes chilling with so much suspense. Hot scenes old your breath . Women are a case apart, with their special gifts, plus an above average intelligence. A remarkable series that will be missed.
The third book in the Ghost Ops series by Lisa Marie Rice. Jon Ryan heads out to San Francisco to rescue Dr. Sophie Daniels who has an antidote for the deadly virus that is spreading fast. In order to do that he has to get through the zombie like creatures without being infected himself. Then he has to get Sophie back through the creatures. But, of course, things don't go as smoothly as they would have liked.
I really like Lisa Marie Rice but this series is not her best. I don't hate it but I don't love it either. You really need to have read the other books in the series to understand what exactly happened and why. The author tries to update you but still it is best to read the others.
Resenha em português e inglês / Review in Portuguese and English
ARC recebido da autora para resenha honesta / ARC received from author to honest review.
Altamente recomendado!
------------------
The story continues from the events of the end of the previous book in the series. The book tells the story of Sophie and Jon and also the story of overcoming and resumption of society after the contamination of the majority of the population by a virus created in the laboratory. Sophie is a scientist who has the components to make a vaccine against the virus that is attacking the humanity. Jon is responsible for bringing her safely to Haven. Haven is the only safe place at the moment and that has enough technology to manufacture the vaccine. The first scene of the couple was explosive! Or rather it was nuclear. Along the reading we are following the birth of the couple's relationship and the desperate struggle to escape the infected to reach Safe Haven. We also discovered that Sophie has the gift of healing and that in view of this she is a person who doesn't open up much to relationships. Jon had a very difficult childhood and suffered a lot and that's why he is very closed and is also known for his coldness. Jon and Sophie complete fully and give us a beautiful story of love and hope. The author gives depth to the characters and we were captivated by the story. We also have a vision of what happens with the characters from previous books which is always welcome. We have an epilogue, pretty cool! Highly recommended!!!
First of all I’m sorry for mistakes this review. This is my first review in English.
So… Let’s go!
Since July, ‘13, I started to learn English. And I was insecure for start reading anything in this language. But, when Vania Nunes from The Butterfly Reads blog (http://aborboletaquele.blogspot.com.br/) invited me to join a Book Tour of Lisa Marie Rice’s new book, “Breaking Danger”, I couldn’t resist and accepted the challenge. I'm in love with her since I had read Midnight Man.
Well ... I thought that I had read the previous books and I thought “I'll read it again to get into the mood of the story”, but I hadn’t read them (LOL). So, first of all I read previous books and knowing about Haven and Mac, Nick and John, soldiers who were part of “Ghost Ops”, a secret organization. They were betrayed but survived. And it showed the way a virus to create super soldiers turns into a plague.
So… when I read Jon's book, I was all excited, and wondered how Lisa would work with this character who is the most skilled strategist among the three. Of course the mission to rescue Sophie, who had managed to escape from Arka Pharmaceutics (with a vaccine), seemed to be the hardest.
Sophie is Elle’s best friend (book #2 heroine, I Dream of Danger) and warned her to flee before the "bad guys" caught her. But Sophie is in trouble. The virus was triggered and San Francisco became a branch of the series The Walking Dead, there are zombies everywhere, but she hopes to be rescue and with Elle and Catherine (book #1 heroine, Heart of Danger) can produce the vaccine that she took from Arka Pharmaceutics.
And here comes Jon looking like a nordic god, to shake Sophie’s life. The two go through extreme situations, making instant attraction turns into a love, as the two get to know better and "shared" their respective past. Jon, who had drugged parents who did not care about him, and Sophie with her ability to cure (Yeah, the three books have their fair share paranormal).
I admit that I was surprised with a little different about the way Lisa Marie leads the story, but there’s nothing to say against her . And you get so involved that it is hard not to root for Jon and Sophie get rid of the zombies and come to Haven for to produce the vaccine and to free the world of this plague.
The trilogy closes absolutely convincingly and sedimentary only made me love more the author’s writing and regret for there’s nothing from her published in Brazil .
For those who don’t know Lisa Marie Rice’s books, before Ghost Ops, I recommend to read the Midnight Series.
Confira no post anterior.
I almost stopped reading this book at one point. The repetition was getting on my nerves. In the end it wasn't bad but I couldn't figure out how he saved her in the end.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I have to start out by saying that I regret not reading this series in order. It's not to say that you can't read this on it's own, but while the story surrounds Jon and Sophie is their own, some of the secondary stories and cameos by the other couples didn't have a great impact on me because I haven't read their books. But with that said, this was extremely enjoyable!
Going along with my previous statement of having not read the previous books, I was just a little confused at the start of the book. It was obvious that the situation that Jon and Sophie found themselves in was something that had started prior to the book starting. And while there was a little bit of a catch up for me, I caught on quickly and powered through!
I'm a huge sucker for military guys. And Jon was no exception. Add to the fact that he's a blond Nordic god and I was quite literally in heaven. And Jon was definitely a alpha military hero. He thought quick on his feet and got himself and Sophia out of a few jams.
Speaking of Jon, he definitely had a crappy past. And there were a few heart breaking moments where he remembered the betrayal of his parents and then again when he told Sophia about his past.
I liked Sophia. In some books when you have a really smart character, they can come off sounding like a text book and that gets annoying. But Sophia wasn't like that. She was down to earth and likable.
Sophia and Jon definitely had chemistry! From the first moment they connected, it was off the charts hot! I loved every moment of them together.
This was definitely an enjoyable read and I want to go back and read the other books in the series.
This is my most favorite book of Lisa's! I've kept up with this series from the release date of the first book. It's been one crazy ride and while I'm sad to see the series end, as far as endings go, this was the best finale I've ever read!
From the very first moment they meet Jon and Sophie are connected at the hip. And I mean that they're connected in every way! Their connection is instant and very intense and makes for some really sexy love scenes. Some may find the connection between the two too fast and unbelievable but I loved it! Facing a zombie apocalypse is crazy in itself to live through so the idea of two people finding each other the way these two did and connection so completely in spite of the chaos surrounding them was something I was really drawn to.
This is by far my favorite zombie romance! As a Walking Dead fan I'm always looking for books similar to this so I'm very happy I found this series! If you haven't yet read these books you should but you have to start with book one. I don't suggest reading them out of order or you'll spoil everything for yourself. And if you have been waiting for this book to finally release make sure you pick it up asap because you are definitely gonna wanna read this crazy, fast paced love story that concludes the Qhost Ops series! I'm looking forward to more from this author in the future but in the meantime I think I'll be rereading this series. ;)
Luces y sombras. Una pena. Definitivamente, no. La historia se vuelve repetitiva y repetitiva y me cansa. Los personajes prometían mucho, pero... ------SPOILERS----------

Going to make this quick, Book number 3, Breaking Danger was great. It's a good continuation to the story from Book 1 and 2. All three books have had interesting parallels to today's quarantine. Here's a quote...
"Sophie leaned forward. “Are you following Q-and-I protocols?” she asked urgently.
“Absolutely, we’re following quarantine-and-isolation protocols.” Catherine stepped into the monitor. “We’re following CDC protocols, though isolation doesn’t really apply here because we don’t have any infected to isolate. It was deemed too dangerous.” “Yes, of course.” Sophie ran through what she knew of CDC protocols. “We’re looking at an engineered virus.” Sophie kept her voice steady even though the thought of a scientist—a person dedicated to human knowledge—intentionally engineering this viral plague made her heartsick. “I don’t have any hard data on the incubation period, but I suspect it is very short. It’s important that we observe quarantine protocols.”
The virus was made by a pharmaceutical company called Corona. Unlike today the virus spreads quickly and turns people into zombie like creatures that die fast.
More running and romping, love and trust. Lots of characters from the other books just add Sophie! She is another brave person that makes the most of her circumstances.
Metaphorically, California falls into the ocean.
I enjoyed Haven, the authors very creative fake hidden village. Making up new places is an art ! Putting them into words is equally hard.
Narrated by Kaleo Griffith. His voice was very familiar. I was trying to figure out what other books he read. I enjoyed his voice.
BOOK TOUR - June 1st - 7th Blog Hominhos di Papel - http://adriboa.blogspot.com Review in English and Portuguese

—Fuck Man! Get out top of me right now!
Adriana if I did not know you devours Paper Men of Lisa Marie, with your idolized Seal's, I never would suspect that the you would take a Rice with this story beyond imagination.
Now I ask you ... What? What? What happens when she sees his immeasurable piston Silver?
—Oh My Lord! What a colossal surf board is this? For God's sake, man let foreplay aside and plunge that I am waiting forward to your visit!
Thank you very much Our Lady! Never thought in my sad life I would eat, touching, kissing, fucking or even drink this delicacy, let alone one that's this size!
—Girl hits the brakes, restricts movement, controls the excitement and for love of God... Ask to me stop. Asks me to dominate me. Begs me to go slower I need urgently to control me, or I'll hurt you Fucking!
—Men I do not know you, but mete bottom and step on the gas, I capoto but not stopping! Go deep... Brum. Brum. Brummmmm!
Remember Adriana… Men of Papel Boattini!
For they are so different realities, I believe that the chance to get to know in real life would be void if it not be the end of the world would have no issue in common. Surfer has a dark past and a dark life. A child was marked by coldness and indifference of those who should care for, protect and feed this poor boy. Was surprised by their "loving" parents with a dirty barter, since both exchanged he a bargain price for a kilo of ground beef.
She in turn had loving parents, more that did not stop her to have a haunting past. Too soon discovered have healing powers like a powerful Shaman. When she touchs someone every disease vanished at the touch of healing energy, but such power charging an overly high price and poor almost died, leaving her bad for days and days!
Penetrated plan the trip back to civilization aided by an Excel spreadsheet. Adriana ask you ... what they do to pass the time? Take tea and toast? Go read a book? Watch the sports channel? Make handcrafts? Play cards? Gossip about this world?
—They fucking in bed, fucking on the floor, fucking in the kitchen, fucking in the bathroom, FUCKING available everywhere and anywhere possible, while the world collapses dominated by thousands of zombies and million of undead!
I confess that at this stage of the game Adriana is with "lower parts" in shambles so sore with the flashing in and out of her cave. Preliminary passed away from this hole that is now flooded to be so fucked. Due to the rash, the Boattini now urgently needs several sitz baths, numerous cold water compresses and a ton of Xylocaine
I am seriously thinking of sending to Lisa Marie the Fucking of Curriculum, ops Vitae Curriculum of the Adriana, because who knows with the help of the Our Lady, Rice put the Boattini as heroine in her next love story!
I confess I am salivating to experience a fuck provided by one of these Seal, which is the hallmark of their Men of Paper. Our Lady of Multiple Orgasms look for us! Just imagining this martyrdom my uterus convulsed and my ovaries have lost their senses!
I love the books of Lisa Marie, I was immensely grateful for the opportunity of Adriana has the privilege of tasting this book still in Avant Premiere. I confess that I'm a fan number one of Seal's and I am crazy about her Men of Paper. The Boattini devoured this saga, sympathized with the characters and was happy to see that all the characters had a decent end and loving outcome of accounts of fairies with endless love, this trilogy not left no loose ends.
Thank you very much to Vania Nunes for your generosity in having shared this "bread" literary with her friends, and have put Adriana aware of this daring project, giving Boattini the privilege of being one of the few to do "Hall of Fame" of tupiniquins who were part of this project! Come next to infinity and beyond!
— What’s the hell is this?
Querem minha necessaire virulenta?
Sou o Surfista Prateado e vim te salvar! —Aleluia mermão! ALELUIA!
—Mermão sai de cima di min right now Caráaaglio!
Fala pra eu parar. Pede pra eu me dominar.
More of a 3.5 as my somewhat nitpicky brain kept getting bogged down by details.
The series is somewhat of an A-Team meets Resident Evil with a side order of Doom, only with sex. The virus was created to make super soldiers rather than an attempt to cure a kid. Doesn't really matter as it backfired.
Books 2 and 3 take place over about a week. At the end of book 2, the villain has taken his latest iteration of the serum, and unwittingly unleashed a virus. The trouble with this is that the h from book 2 gets an email from h from *this book* saying she has 200 doses of a vaccine. Since he'd just come up with the idea of a virus as a vector like, a day or two before...how would they have *any* vaccine, let alone 200 doses of it???
In the previous book, right as the villain lost his mind, he killed his financial backer. Nobody saw this - or saw the body - yet they knew somehow that he was dead??
The h in *this* book ran up to his office, saw nobody, and grabbed the case of vaccines that was just..sitting there? Did the guy's body magically turn into a large insulated suitcase? He wasn't bitten so he couldn't have been infected.
Now... about *this* particular book. It's good really. As a standalone, I'd have enjoyed it immensely. It's just that somewhere along the line, details got forgotten and since I'd just read the two previous books, that's hard to ignore.
The H, twitterpated at a picture of the h, raced as quickly as he could to fetch her - and the vaccines. He managed to arrive at her apartment door where she's been variously observing how the virus affected the infected, and having her own private pity party. Of course, the first thing he does after she yanks him into her apartment, is bone her. That taken care of, they - together with the rest of the gang via his hi-tek toys - plan on an escape. Naturally, the escape plan is blown to hell via a ruptured gas main so plan b. They get out, find their way to an isolated B&B...and here I twitch a bit as they decide to use the owners' quarters instead of a guest room. I mean really? You just slept in used bedding (and did other things) when there were guest rooms right up the stairs?
Then they take the owner's offroad vehicle to get to the home base. Goes great - right up until someone at the home base fails to deactivate the explosives in the approach road and manages to cause them to wreck. Oh, and a group of recently infected attack, and the H (who, in spite of having a case of 200 vaccines, never seems to have thought to maybe use one on himself and the h??) gets bitten. The h's woo-woo power is that she's a healer, so she cures him.
As an aside, it seems like every book had the h having a NDE, and the H using their speshul connection to bring her back to life. I have a long standing dislike of things like that, and while the H/h are in fact, couples when it happens in this series, it still irritates me.
Never thought I would associate the living dead with LMR.
I applaud her effort for trying something new. But I missed the instant attraction and smut that she is known for from her Midnight series. Why fix something that is not broken, eh?
First of all, we want to thank Avon Books, Harper Collins Publishers and Lisa Marie Rice for our blog have been invited to take part in this Book Tour, where we had the honor of reading in very first hand the newest Bestseller Ghost Ops 3, and the deposited confidence. We are very happy to, once again, take part in this pleasure that is to read Lisa. Also could not fail to mention our dear friend and blogger Vânia Nunes (http://aborboletaquele.blogspot.com.br/) who is ahead of the thing. Without her, none of this would have been possible.
It is not secret for anyone that we are rabid fans of Lisa. Her books always have a formula that pleases us greatly. Seals, protective way of ATB (our guys All The Best), electrifying dialogs and scenarios. This book ended the trilogy with a flourish, it tied all the possible tips that could be raised in the previous books of the serie. The supporting characters have their history told along the volumes. Wonderful and different, but not less captivating.
Quickly review: In the previous books, Mac (book 1), Nick (book 2) and Jon find themselves involved in a plot orchestrated by Arka, putting them as homeland traitors. Catherine and Elle, besides scientists, also have some extrasensory perception, which is what attracted the heads of the Arka Pharmaceutical, so that they carried them to work-together. At the very end of the Book 2, Nick manages to realease Elle, who is a friend of Sophie Daniels, the girl of this book; but can’t find Sophie, coming back for Haven without her.
In this 3rd and last history, the book already starts highly dynamic. Sophie manages to send an e-mail for Elle telling that in the middle of mess of the beginning of the virus spread, she can enter the Godfather’s office, that had turned zombie, and pick up a case with 200 vaccine doses and isolated alive virus. Frightening scenery, right? Very well, the poor creatures here stayed with distress, devouring the book’s pages in the curiosity to know: what Lisa would do with such situation? I confess that I’m not a bit fan of zombie, I’m dead-scared. And the scenes are quite impactfull. But maaann, is Lisa! And she breaks all the barriers that keep you from reading something outside your comfort zone.
Jon offers himself to go to resolve the situation, since his is obsessed by the image of the beautiful and helpless Sophie, who is islanded in her apartment, surrounded by infected people everywhere. She obliges herself, as the scientist she is, to control your fright in front of the situation, and remains hidden behind the window observing the behavior of the infected. She makes it quite clear that they are not zombies, because the virus installs itself in an alive organism, therefore they are infected. And the infection spreads very quickly. Going to meet Sophie, Jon come across with worthy Hollywood's scenarios. The city is completely destroyed, taken by hordes of infected that, different from what we usually see, are as fast as the ones of World War Z, with Brad Pitt; the remaining uncontaminated human who dared to try out would be immediately attacked if noticed through the noise and more accurate instinct of those who were with the virus, the sense of smell. The children's scene on the tree... It was hard to sleep after that.
Jon faces a horrifying situation, ending at the Sophie`s house door and... It was the sex that rolled faster in the entire history of the planet novels already written! The guy falls within the house over of the very pretty woman, and close the door with the foot. Then... a quickie! How so?! LOL. He beat the look and done. It was already! Ohhh, how I worship that in Lisa's Men! They do not flinch, do not think it could be this and that, and that another. None of that! It is hand in that, that in that and as quickly as possible. Even because the world was finishing and what if... right? Better to solve the thing soon! And he solves. And how it solves! Ohh God, how I envy this Sophie!! The woman took nothing more, nothing less, than the most gorgeous blond, long hair, spunky surfer “apparently” quiet, but with a life story very punk.
Thrilling, electrifying, dynamic, highly addictive, is how we would describe this book. We think it would be very unlikely she gives an end to the history in this volume, but we’re talking about Lisa! She finishes brilliantly, in a way that even the most demanding creature would not have anything to complain about. Haven ends up becoming what its name says. Surprising, lovely final, but with a beginning, a middle and almost until the very end of nail bitting. Get ready, folks. The chicks freaks out!
Breaking Danger is book three in the Ghost Ops series. It is the continuing story of three soldiers that are considered traitors to their country. This book can be read as a stand alone or in series order.
Lisa Marie Rice has maintained an excellent standard with this series and this book. She has created an intense world where the reader is kept on the edge of their seats. The action is intense. She has created a sizzling hot romance and in each book the featured character finds their own little piece of heaven.
Jon Ryan, the best strategist and tracker in the group is responsible for bringing Sophie Daniels, a virologists, into the fold at the Haven.
Sophie Daniels worked at Arka Pharmacauticals. All the scientists from Arka are being captured. Most were able to flee but Sophie was not that lucky. Sophie has managed to steal the vaccine that cured the plague virus that was created by Dr. Lee in Arka’s Lab.
The virus was intended to create super soldiers but turned into something horrific. Instead of super soldiers there are Zombie like creatures that are super strong, fast, lacking in motor control, and mindless. Each infected person can spread this onto others.
When Jon finally attains Sophie they are forced to hide out for days. During this time they begin to get know each other and find that they are both attracted to one another. Their attraction grows into a hot, sexy, and meaningful relationship. They will have to survive the nightmare first. They are the ones that hold the cure for the virus and are the only hope for the human race.
This book is intense. It will keep the reader on the edge of their seats.
The characters are a force within themselves, put them together and they are unstoppable. The charismatic characters, the well excuted plot, dynamic dialogue, romantic scenes, and chilling suspense will keep the reader hooked until the very last word.
I've been waiting for this final conclusion to the Ghost Ops series and though I wasn't disappointed, there's still room for improvements and I wish it was a little longer. I like the first book better, though.
The story continues as the virus spreads throughout the United States with Jon and Sophie racing through a city filled with infected people to get the antidote to Haven to rescue what's left of mankind. The story was a good blend of suspense and sci-fi, and the romance wasn't bad either.
I wish the romance and character was more developed. What I see most here is mainly steamy sex and a lot of action going on when they're wrapped around each other's arms. The problem, i think is that the couple leaped into bed together at the first meeting and spent most of their time doing that, so it didn't feel as if they're connection on a deeper lever than sex.
The suspense of the novel kept me on my toes a few times and the plot was well done. We also get glimpses into the lives of Nick/Elle and Mac/Catherine and a few others at Haven, but I wished to see more the Mac/Catherine since they're my favorites.
Overall, it was a good conclusion to the series. I admit, I was expecting a little more of the story. The ending was good, but it wasn't anything fantastic. Had she could, a few more chapters into the aftermath of the catastrophe would have helped greatly.
I am a die hard Lisa Marie Rice fan and it pains me to give this book such a low rating. From the beginning I just could not get into this series. The advanced technology and paranormal aspect really hurt the stories. I loved the previous books by Ms. Rice, which were in the contemporary and romantic suspense genres. Specifically, this book involved the H and h on the run from zombies. This made any kind of romantic relationship difficult to build. The first meeting btw the couple involves the H crashing into the h's apartment and landing on top of her. What happens next is they have sex. I couldn't believe it, they JUST MET!!!! There just was never any chemistry btw them and their entire relationship felt forced. Plus, every book in this series keeps talking about the character of Stella and what a wonderful cook she is which was so random. Who cares. The first time was fine but we don't need it to be mentioned over and over again. She didn't add to the story in any way. I hope this series is over and Ms. Rice goes back to the contemporary and romantic suspense genres.
Picks up immediately following its predecessor, "I Dream of Danger" when Jon Ryan rescues Elle's friend Sophie Daniels, who has the formula for the vaccine that will Save The World.
Jon and Sophie are nothing new in Rice's hero/heroine repertoire. She's a brilliant but socially awkward Damsel in Distress. He's a warrior and loner who's a stranger to emotions. They meet, have explosive sex, and fall in love....in about five minutes.
Rice almost breaks new ground with a plot twist when Jon's infected and Sophie must use her hidden talent to intervene. But it's all over so fast that it loses its impact. And when the Haven folks start imagining the Utopia that will develop after the infection is cured it just seems incredibly naive and foolish.
But, if you can get over some of the glaringly large plot holes and just enjoy the action, suspense, and hot sex, it's quite a fun book.
Fantastic ending to this thrilling trilogy. This trilogy was fantastic, suspenseful, spine-tingling storyline. I loved the various paranormal aspects in the series, adored everything about the Ghost-Ops team, and I definitely celebrated the intelligence and bravery of the women who loved them. One of my favorite themes involve Alpha males who are flawed or broken inside and those special heroines who look deep, beyond the obvious, and uncover the core goodness, the hidden decency of the men. That’s one of the chief reasons why I loved this Ghost-Ops trilogy.
N.B.: For those inquiring minds, there was a great deal of sex in each book. I think it may have been a bit over-the-top, but I wouldn’t call the books erotic. There was very little, if any, variation in the sexual activities of the couples in any of the books😩.
Since the whole zombie apocalypse was thrown on you in book #2, this whole book being about the zombie's was ok. I thought the story was wordy and at points would drone on and on about a) things you already knew or b) things you could care less about. However, I did like Sophie and Jon's story, I liked the romance between them and the suspense of the story. I didn't like no time was spent at Haven, I would have liked to seen a story on the relationship of Lucias and Stella, and it ended a little abruptly even though it did have an epilogue.
This took a left turn from the rest of the series, in more ways than one. For the audio book, the first two were done by a woman, this one was done by a man. Partly the way he was written, and partly the way they did the voices, the character John was *totally* different from the first two books. And then, the zombies....I like zombie stories. but this book was just not as good as the first two.
Not my favorite LMR book, not my favorite LMR series. But I liked the characters and even the story though it was kind of out there, so it was still enjoyable. I look forward to more LMR, but while this did have some of her trademark features, I'm hoping she goes back to her usual stuff.
it felt like the author got sick and tired of the premise of her other books in this trilogy. the end part was almost exactly like the book before, oh she died, oh just kidding she's not dead. blah blah. the only thing good was the narrator, he's got a nice voice, too bad the material was subpar
OMG! It took me a while to write this review because i didn't know what to think. I absolutely loved previous books but this one was just awful in my opinion. First of all I have nothing against insta love but.... when there is a guy that has to wade through a city filled with zombies he's on almost suicide mission and a minute after he kicks the door they start having sex. And I'm not exaggerating, just after he walks through the door he doesn't even takes his gear off cause they immediately banging !! WTF? And I didn't had an issue with kinda futuristic world but when suddenly out of nowhere there's this big zombie apocalypse well that's just weird. And there were kinda plot holes - they rescued 3 other guys from theirs unit and they're not even mentioned again!!! And the Big bad just kinda disappeared ! He was the main nemesis in the series and suddenly he disappears and there's only one line about it! Something along the lines of " well the government decides he's evil so they took him down" Like WHAT?!?! Overall i loved two previous books but that I'd just would like to pretend that this last book didn't happen :(
I really enjoyed this series as a whole. Each book was different from the others, so I never got bored with the storyline. I think I liked the second book the best of the three, but this one was really fascinating with the world building and aftermath of a California destroyed by zombie like people. I enjoyed the different take on the infected — they weren’t self sustaining creatures, so I think that made it more realistic, in a manner of speaking. They would die for good within a short time frame. Rice does suspense so well, there were times I couldn’t put the book down. I had a couple of head scratching moments— I felt like the geography of the infectious spread was a little off. Plus I wondered, did it spread to the rest of the world? And if not, wouldn’t other countries try to swoop in and take over the US? But perhaps I’m overthinking the whole thing. 😄 I’m kind of enjoying this post-apocalyptic romantic sub genre!
My favorite, actually one of the only, apocalyptic, government created and released, alpha male goes to save the girl from the zombie hordes, and live happily ever after in a high tech futuristic stronghold under a mountain with lots of other smart people novels. Yea, it's pure trash...of the very best kind.
Sensitive, military alpha male helo's into the middle of a zombie apocalypse to save the beautiful, brave, intrepid scientist who may have smuggled out a cure for the plague. She must be saved! He knows she's beautiful from her pictures; she knows he's coming to save be her from a message. Tension! Crash! Door opens, sex happens, more tension!
It's a great alpha H, smart h, tension filled story. Interesting world. Come on, zombies, military men, secret strongholds, sexual tension, women scientists. Read it.
I really did not like this one. There really wasn't much left after she explained story 1 and 2 to the reader. I read #1 and #2 I didn't need to have a synopsis of them throughout this book. I also really didn't care for one characters point of view in one chapter, then the other characters point of view in the next chapter.
I would say you could read #3 and not bother with the other 2 but this one was not as good as the other 2. I really can't recommend this series at all now. I think the author was tired of the series as well.
It’s the apocalypse! Only the Ghost Ops team can help! John has been tasked with rescuing virologist and Elle’s best friend, Sophie Daniels from the horde of infected citizens. Sophie has the vaccine for the virus that has turned thousands of people into almost walking dead. The mission: Rescue Sophie and take her and the vaccine back to Haven, where Catherine, Elle and Sophie can produce mass vaccines. Meanwhile, John and Sophie bond. Will this be the end of civilization as we know it? If you enjoy paranormal romance then you will like this series.
