Follows the life of the son of John Rolfe and Pocohontas, from his youth in Scotland and England through his return to Virginia to his reunion with his Algonquin relatives.
While I loved this author's books about Pocahontas, I didn't find this book as interesting. I think I would have enjoyed it more if there was more about his time after he came to America.
I really enjoyed this well-researched novel based on the true story of Pochahontas and John Rolfe’s son, Thomas. The publisher included wood-cut-style illustrations that add to the solid storytelling. There are bare-bones descriptions of hunting and other wilderness dangers, but I appreciated that the violence is not encouraged/glorified. Recommended for 8-12 year-olds.
It's not bad for historical fiction. For those who like getting Christian elements, that is definitely present. For those who don't, they weren't so heavy as to distract from the general story. Since I knew nothing about Pocahontas' son - or even that she had one, though I knew she'd married an Englishman who wasn't John Smith - this led me to conduct more historical research on my own. And that is never a bad thing.
This is the sequel to 'Pocahontas: True Princess' It's about Pocahontas' son - Thomas Rolfe or Pepsicanough. It's an amazing story. It's based on truth which is really cool! Really easy to read and well written. I've read it a few times :)
