Guy Fieri is an American restaurateur, author, television personality, and game show host. He co-owns five restaurants in California and is widely known for his television series on the Food Network.
By mid-2010, the Food Network had made Fieri the "face of the network." In 2010, the New York Times reported that Fieri brought an "element of rowdy, mass-market culture to American food television," and that his "prime-time shows attract more straight male viewers than any others on the network."
AUTHOGRAPHED COPY OF THE COOKBOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME BY MY SON AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW FOR CHRISTMAS. HE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PERSONALITIES ON TV AND THE FOOD NETWORK. THE COOKBOOK ITSELF IS FILLED WITH PERSONAL STORIES AND LOTS OF TIPS FOR GRILLING, CAMPING AND DEALING WITH FOOD OUTSIDE. THE RECIPES ARE VERY DETAILED AND HE GIVES YOU PLENTY OF GUIDANCE ON HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL. IN REALITY I WAS ONLY INTERESTED IN TRYING SEVERAL OF THE RECIPES BECAUSE I CURRENTLY DON'T OWN A GRILL AND DO NOT GO CAMPING. MANY RECIPES THOUGH CAN BE ADOPTED FOR THE STOVETOP WHICH IS A PLUS. BUT IN CONCLUSION IT IS A FUN READ WITH GREAT PICTURES AND WORTH SOMETHING I GUESS WITH HIS AUTOGRAPH INSIDE THE FRONT COVER.
I don't think I have ever read a cookbook cover to cover. His anecdotes and stories are great and add much to the experience of the recipes he included. Fun read.
I picked up Guy on Fire mostly out of nostalgia--I bought this simply because I grew up watching Guy on TV--and honestly, that affection carries a lot of this book for me. If you'realready a fan of Guy Fieri's larger-than-life personality, this cookbook feels like spending time with a familiar voice that knows exactly what it's doing in the kitchen.
The recipes themselves are approachable, bold, and very much on-brand: big flavors, comfort food vibes, and dishes clearly meant to be shared. I love these recipes and am super excited to make them for my family! That said, some recipes feel more exciting than others, and not every dish stands out as memorable if you already own a few similar cookbooks.
Where the book shines is in its enthusiasm--it's hard not to feel energized flipping through the pages. Where it falls a little short is originality; some recipes feel like variations on familiar themes rather than must-make showstoppers.
Overall, Guy on Fire is a solid, enjoyable cookbook that's best appreciated by longtime fans. It may not reinvent your kitchen, but it'll definitely bring some fun, flavorful meals to the table.
I had a fun time reading / looking through this book!
This is not your dad's grilling cookbook! Many of the recipes are above my ability, but my mouth was watering as I read ingredients and directions.
At the beginning of the book, Guy starts out by talking about the "Outdoor Arsenal", providing information for EVERYTHING a great outdoor "chef" needs to prepare great meals! This is also where he starts to sprinkle cute / sometimes funny anecdotes throughout the book. In one of his first anecdotes, we learn about Kingsford Charcoal, but you'll have to read the book to see how this started!
Also, did you know that certain meats / seafood, etc. taste better when they are cooked using a certain type of wood? I didn't. Guy provides a list of wood (for a smoker) and then lists what woods are generally used with which meats.
Anyways, as you work your way through the books, there are recipes for food and beverages, SOME color photographs, but not as many as I would like, and definitely not one for each recipe! There is also a page about "How to Clean Your Crab".
Now I'm sure the recipes are fine, but I cannot get into a cookbook that rarely posts pictures of the dish it wants us to cook. A bit of a disappointment to me.
I know this is more of a comment on the style than the content, but with cookbooks I believe presentation is just as important.
I love Guy's personality and it clearly shows in this book. The recipes are great but they don't picture many of the dishes. The photos throughout are more of Guy and his family. Wish they focused more on the food. Somewhat disappointing.
Great pictures... part grilling/bbq cookbook, part memoir w/ lots of family & friends pics. Had a lot of good info on outdoor cooking in general. Very colorful & fun book; but I agree w/ another reviewer that it really needed pics of EVERY recipe to get above 3 stars for me.
Wow! I would like to make almost every recipe in this book. The Lava Rock Shrimp recipe alone is worth the price of this cookbook. I would like a little more information about the ingredients used in the recipes and definitely more pictures of the food.
