Perry Skky Jr.'s about to discover that temptation can be very hard to resist. . .
Perry Skky Jr. has his whole life ahead of him--and so does his boy, Damarius. Which is why he can't understand why Damarius is wasting his time with weed. But then one night Perry is tempted into having a few drinks too many--and suddenly he's the one caught in a very compromising position. Worried about the consequences, he admits his mistake and turns his attention to the beautiful Savoy. The only problem is that there are quite a few people who'd like to keep Perry and Savoy apart--including Tori, Perry's ex-girlfriend.
Perry thinks he can take the heat--until tragedy strikes his close-knit circle of friends. And suddenly he finds himself rethinking everything. Everything, that is, except his faith. Because when things fall apart, Perry knows the only way to come out strong is to rely on his relationship with God. But is he strong enough to do what's right?

Pressing Hard by Stephanie Perry Moore Pressing Hard by Stephanie Perry Moore is about a boy named Perry Sky Jr. Perry is in the 12 grade and is a senior in high school. He is the football star and has gotten a full scholarship on football to Georgia Tech. He has so much happening in his life between school, friends, football, girlfriends (and yes I said GIRLFRIENDS!) and enemies he has a lot on his plate. But he gets through it all by the help of God. He has a real good connection with god and has gotten a lot of help from him. With so much to do he wonders how he’s going to get through it all. This book is fiction and is told be Perry his self, which is fist person I think. The mani characters are Perry, Damarius, Cole, Tori, Savoy, and God. It takes place in the very state of Georgia, and the theme is helping you. The author’s purpose in writing this story is to inform people on some of the things they will go through in life, and in High School. During the life as a teenager you will go through a lot of things that you won’t want to go through and some things you do will be proud that you went through. It’s also trying to tell you that if you have a connection with God things can be easier for you. You will be able to go through thing a lot easier. The author made this clear, to me at least and it has encouraged me to prepare myself fully for high school. I was affected entirely by this story but it also makes me want to think of the worst. I don’t know why it just does. This book does not compare to any other book I have read I really love this book it is a book I will look for more of. I really want to read the other books she has. The book as absolutely no weaknesses and so many strengths I really do love this book it talks about almost everything you could possibly have. So altogether this book has prepared me and informed me on some many things it’s hard to believe I am so happy my mom bought me this book for Christmas. The book is so informing and I can’t wait to read something else by her. If think anyone would love this book.
In Prime Choice (Book 1) Perry Skky, Jr. had rededicated his life to God. When Book 2 begins, he allows himself to be talked into drinking alcohol when it isn't something he really wants to do, and it surely isn't an act that's pleasing to God. One minute Perry is claiming to be high on life and moments later he's gulping down four beers in a row. In other words, he gives in to peer pressure. He is repentant, though, especially when the alcohol he consumed takes a toll on his athletic physique. He's also repentant a few more times throughout the story when he makes other decisions that he immediately regrets. Seems he's learning that it isn't easy to be a Christian in this world. Perry sure has a whole lot to deal with in this book: His boy, Damarius, gets him caught up in a dangerous situation. A fatal accident takes away a friend, and there's still much drama in his life when it comes to females. I purchased Book 2 because I wanted to find out if Perry and Savoy (the girl he was with at the end of Book 1) would stay strong in their Christian beliefs and remain abstinent. But Mr. Skky gets a bit confused and can't make up his mind about who he wants - Savoy or Tori (the girl he broke up with in Book 1). It seems he has feelings for both of them, and he ends up hurting both of them. He does, however, take responsibility for the pain he causes. And about Perry's Christian beliefs as far as premarital sex is concerned, I had to wonder why a guy who is committed to abstinence would have a condom in his nightstand. I guess even though his spirit was willing to abstain he figured there would come a day when his flesh would be in control and he'd better be prepared. That isn't total commitment. Total commitment would be never even thinking about buying a condom, never taking a girl up to his bedroom or her bedroom or wherever, and doing his best to never put himself in a situation where sex could happen. I'm thinking the author was trying to show the reader that Christians don't get it right all of the time, and that when the wrong choices are made, God is right there ready to forgive. Perry says, "Being an eighteen year old black male is a lot of pressure." In order to cope with all of the pressure, Perry prays to the heavenly Father. But he doesn't always pray just for himself; he also prays for family and friends. And it seems that, by the end of this story, more than pleasing himself and his parents, Perry Skky Jr. wants to please God. I plan to purchase the next book not only to see how that works out for him, but to find out if he ends up with Savoy, or Tori, a new girl, or if he just decides not to have a relationship with any girl so he can focus on football, his education, and, most importantly, his relationship with God.

The book that I have selected to read is a series called, “Pressing Hard”, the Perry Skky Jr. series. The author of this book is a lady by the name of Stephanie Perry Moore. Stephanie was born in the state of South Carolina and was raised at an early age in the state of Virginia. She goes from church to church to visit the youth children to read them some of the series she made. She is currently married to former Georgia Tech athlete Derrick Moore.
Perry Skky was going through a hard time with getting through temptation. His best friend Damarius was getting involved with weed during school while trying to balance his football career. Perry soon gets in trouble after getting caught with the illegal substance on him that came from his friend Damarius. Perry was stuck on maybe losing a scholarship and getting kicked out of school and the football team. After this happened and the principal gave him a warning, the young Student-Athlete Perry Skky had to choose between his career and Damarius.
The purpose of this book was to inform young teenage students and fellow athletes to be careful who you hang with. This gives examples about how your childhood best friend may not even be healthy for you. Sometimes you have to look out for yourself and worry about you instead of risking your life for others. It also shows you that doing drugs in high school can affect you and others around you in a bad way. So this makes sure that you make the right decisions and choices.
This book was one of the best books that I have ever read. For one, I can relate because this was written specifically for people my age. I also have a couple friends that aren’t on the right path that I can’t let bring me or my career down. So I can relate to what Perry Skky is going through. This will help me make better decisions for me and my future by following and learning from the mistakes that Perry did. I would recommend this book to middle school and high school students. The reason I would recommend it to younger kids is so when they reach the age of the high school level, they will not make stupid mistakes. This book is made for teenagers to watch who your friends are. It shows that everybody you love isn’t good for you. You should watch who you hang with and trust when getting older because you could get yourself in something you can’t get out.
This book took me on a different journey than the first. I could have swore the first book was he was practicing abstinence and struggling to stay a virgin. But in this book, now in college, Perry is introduced to drinking, around drugs, and sexual encounters where he gives in to lust of the flesh with his ex-girlfriend Tori (who is in the first book in the series).
At first, on some levels, it was difficult for me to connect and relate to some of the characters thrown on me in the book; yet these were his football player buddies. His relationship with Savoy and past girlfriend Tori, where he seems torn between the two. Most men fall into the traps of temptation and girl who is coming onto them strongly but hate the neediness of which Tori demonstrates. Yet, I can relate to this type of reaction for most teen girls--wanna be loved and confuse sex for love.
Maybe the connection and flow was not kilted (tucked in, flow together) for me, but still a good read.
I think this book is great for all teenagers. It relates to teens in that it's current. It talks about what teenagers see and hear about everyday. Although he was just a football player, that symbolized the goals that teens have and are trying to accomplish. It basically talks about the struggle Perry went through while in was in his freshman year of college. Trying to decipher whether or not he should stay a football player or give it up to be with girls and have fun. It distinguishes the trials one must go through to come to a place in life that they are satisfied with. It was an eye opener to me in that it helped me realize my own struggle in life. I learned that you go through these obstacles in order to be better at what you want to do.
Pressing Hard is a book about a boy named Perry who has gone throught multiple problems such as friends, girlfriend, school, and his college life. I liked this book because it was very interesting. It kept me coming back to read. I noticed how the author gave Perry alot of tough choices in his life to figure out and solve on his own. I understood where Perry had trouble choosing college because i had the same problem. There was a couple colleges that had what I wanted to do, but i just could choose. I rate this book as a 5 star because I really enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend this book to other teens or adults.
This book was really good. I think if your into god then you would like this. And even if you dont really talk to god like that i still think that you would like it. These are one of these books were if you start to read it you wont want to put it down. This is a layed back book. it talks about everyday teen life. One of his best friends were doing drugs. and even though he didnt think it was right he was with his friend till the end. And he even took a few hits for his friends. He also tryed to make him do the right things.
Pressing hard is a book that is based on christianity. I haven't finished the book yet, but I already know that it is going to be amazing. Damarious is the guy in the first chapter that is trying to pressure Perry in to having a drink on New Year's eve. Well Perry takes the pressure and starts drinking, telling everyone that he can handle his liquar, but turns out that he can't and is acting strange. Well I'm not going to spoil it for those who haven't read this book, so check this book out. It is Amazing!!!!!!
Pressing hard was an amazing story of what urban city teens face every day. It brought about true emotions and true thoughts. The characters seem to come to life and are so relatable. You are able to become part of the book and picture yourself in the same situations. It draws you in and makes you feel as though even though situations may be difficult you can overcome them. Through the major drama and conflict in the story you can connect in a way that leaves you wanting more!
The book was about perry went to this party and he got drunk some beer that he didn't really want to and he got drunk. So he went to this room went to sleep and he wasn't feeling good he woke up left the party never new what they did to him he drove home.He told his parents that he got drunk they was mad and they told him to go to his room. The next day this drug dailer name jaboe had a video when it was two girls was naked with him
Pressing hard is a book that is based on the faith on God.That is the main thing that kept me reading. The main character Perry had multiply problems through out the book and the relationship with God is what kept him strong and on his feet. This book I think is for young teens that are faithful and have problems they face in everyday life.I really enjoyed this book and it mad me closer to God.
Good story line, terribly written. The characters and situations are believable. I love that it's a Christian book about peer pressure with black charachters. Could use a lot more editing though.
