A magical adventure to finding one’s self and stepping out in your truths.
This is a great dive into fantasy genre. It was a easy read and a great lead into a series that will be written by numerous authors. Love the sprinkle of romance. It was light and didn’t dilute the FMC’s main role. Some spots felt shortened like there was more to tell.
Received the book as ARC, but I think I was in a bit of a fantasy book slump. So, it took me a bit longer than I expected to read it. But it’s not a long fantasy book, so it should be a quick read.
Jessica does a great job with her imagery in this book. Her description are so well written, it is easy to imagine the scenes as they happen. I’d love to see this book come to life on a screen. Love the description of the characters. I also enjoyed the imagery in the trials. The pacing was great, and it was easy to forget that the scene was the trial at times.
Confronting child trauma, insecurities, and strained family relationships made some of this story relatable. But the resolutions felt a bit clean cut and easier than expected.
Overall, this was a great read. Highly recommend for anyone interest in AA Fantasy genre.

Forge and Wallai has been called up to the Eldritch Trials. And both Queens are a bit shook. Is this the result of Forge’s attitude of grandeur? Or Wallai’s strong will for independence? Failure in the trials would result in a 100-year curse to the kingdom and possible death to the chosen challenger. The stakes are high and everyone seems to hold their breath waiting for the Goddess to pick her person.
To remain invisible is no longer an option. Maluai is chosen. She’ll need training. And she’ll need to come to terms with her deepest fears if she wants to survive. But if Malaui wins, she’ll be a champion of her people. She’ll get to return home. Wallai would find favor and be allowed to govern themselves freely and unhidden. That may mean Forge would still need to answer for themselves. And that may just mean another trial. Another representative.
