Having grown up in suburban NJ at roughly the same time period as Max I had high hopes for the book. His relationship with the maid Honey was especially sweet. But then the story seemed to devolve into some sort of soap opera, full of many of the "Peyton Place" type story lines. Pity.

Heart-wrenching, touching, beautiful, nostalgic.
I absolutely love this story, and I believe it has instantly become one of my favorites!
Max's father is such a quirky beautiful character, my heart ACHES for him. I will never forget this story, and plan to re-read it often when I need to really feel the FEELS <3
