266 books142 followersSanjib Chattopadhyay (Bengali: সঞ্জীব চট্ট্যোপাধ্যায়) (born February 28, 1936 in Kolkata) is a Bengali novelist and writer of short stories. His style is characterised by use of short satirical sentences mixed with very lively language.
Childhood and education:
Sanjib Chattopadhyay spent his childhood in the hilly terrain of Chota Nagpur Plateau under the care of his father after his mother died when he was five. They relocated to Calcutta and he was admitted to Victoria Institution school which he joined at grade seven. He later went to Scottish Church College, Calcutta where he studied chemistry.
Work:
The subjects of his fiction are mostly families living in Calcutta city. Within the confines of these homes, he challenges the moral values of the fast-changing middle class of the city. Chattopadhyay frequently uses old men as his protagonists. These aged characters create the spiritual and philosophical edge found in his novels Lotakambal (The Blanket and Quilt) and Shakha Prasakha (Branches). His most famous novella Swetpatharer tebil (The Ivory Table) is an example of his characteristic style of story-telling which mixes tension, dilemma, curiosity, pity, humor, and satire. He has written fiction for children and continues to write for magazines and newspapers. Chattopdhyay current writing is related to Ramkrishna Paramhansa, Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. Some of his major works apart from the above mentioned are:

Apart from that his notable juvenile literature includes রুকু-সুকু, বড়মামা-মেজমামা series which are fun-filled and analyse various philosophical aspects of life through the eyes of children.

Chattopadhyay is the recipient of the Ananda Puraskar in 1981 and the Sahitya Academy Award for his book শ্রীকৃষ্ণের শেষ কটা দিন in 2018.

সঞ্জীব মানে কি ?
সুন্দর সবুজ সতেজ স্বপ্নেঘেরা মায়ায় ফেলা ছোটবেলায় ফিরিয়ে অম্লমধুর বেদনাবিধুর সব স্মৃতির ঝাঁপি খুলে এক পশলা বৃষ্টি ,শরতের শিশির বা শীতের সোনা ঝরা রোদ্দুরের নরম সিগ্ধ অনুভূতি সাদা পাতায় হাতের লেখায় খোদাই করে দেওয়া সেই লোকটাই হলো আমার কাছে
"সঞ্জীব"
শৈশব হলো সুর তোলা গানের সেই অন্তরা যেখানে কারণে অকারণে হুমড়ে পড়ে কোকিলকন্ঠী না হলেও হেড়ে গলায় হাঁক ছেড়ে হাঁকডাকের লোভ ত্রিভুবনে কোনো ত্রিকালজ্ঞ বা ত্রিদেব ছাড়া অনায়াসে অবহেলায় হারিয়ে দেওয়ার মতো মস্তবড় মতিভ্রম এই চরাচরে কেউ করে না।
সঞ্জীব প্রতিবার সেই স্বপ্নে আরেকটু করে রঙ্গিন পালকে রাঙ্গিয়ে দিয়ে বলে যান আছি তো আমি,ভয় কি?এই হাঁফ ধরানো ঘাম ছোটানো জটিল জীবনে নিখোঁজ হলেও আমার এই শব্দকল্পদ্রুম ফিরিয়ে আনার দায়িত্ব ফেলে যাবো না কোনোদিন।
পরিবার পরিজন যে কতটা প্রিয় কতটা প্রাণের বাঁধনে বাঁধা তার যেন এক স্বচ্ছ স্বর্গীয় সুমধুর ছায়াছবি সঞ্জীবের প্রতি লেখায়,এই নিত্য দেখার সংসারে যে মায়ের কোলে মাথা রেখে,বুকে মুখ লুকিয়ে মেঘের পালকে চড়ে তেপান্তরের মাঠ ঘুরে আবার আটপৌরের জীবনে ফিরে আসার স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যের শান্তি পাওয়া,কিংবা বাবার বকুনি ,দাদুর স্নেহ,জ্যাঠা জেঠিমার আদরে সে অদ্ভুতুড়ে বাঁশির মতো কাশি হোক বা শাসনের রাশি ঠিক ভোলবাজির মতো পালিয়ে যাবে
কিন্তু শেষটা যে বড় কাঁদায়,একরাশ হাসির পর কান্নাগুলো চুন্নীপান্নার মত টুপ করে গড়িয়ে পড়ে অজান্তে এই কাঠপাথরের জীবনে অবেলায় অবহেলায় কেউ কি তার খোঁজ রাখে?

The battles that life makes us fight can they be called a gift? A gift from the universe to help us grow and be our own companions along the way? Why should an individual feel lonely when he has a whole heart full of memories and so much experience to share...
The author explores human psyche through the eyes of several adolescents who are on the cusp of realising their own personal future goals and paths set out by parents and teachers. Sometimes the unexpected happens and death steals away everything. But that is no reason to stop the journey. The true traveller just learns from an experience and adds a few things to his travel pack to face these experiences again in the future. The journey ends with a meeting with his own self, shining away with the eternal gem of truth. This is the way of the universe. Face the truth, face yourself.
