About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

இப்புத்தகத்தின் முன்னுரையில் சுஜாதா கூறியிருப்பது போல்.,
ஒவ்வொரு செய்யுளும், நேராக சொல்ல வந்ததை சொல்லாமல், பெரிய பீடிகை அல்லது அப்படி இப்படி என பெரிய அளவில் பாரட்டப்பட்ட நாட்டின் தலைவனே என கூறி அவரை புகழ்ந்து பாடுதல் போன்றவைகளால் ஆனது.
போர் நிமித்தம், வீரம், இரத்தல் நிமித்தம் புகழ்தல், நினைத்து பார்க்க முடியாத அளவு உவமைகளால் உள்ளது இப்பாடல்கள்.

ஒவ்வொரு பாடலுக்கு முன்னும் யார்,யாரை பாடியது, என்ன திணை/துறை என வகைபடுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

சில பாடல்களின் உவமைகள், நமக்கு மிகுந்த ஆச்சர்யத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும் விதமாக உள்ளது.
நேரிடியாக படித்தால் சற்றும் புரியாது.
அந்தந்த விளக்கவுரைகளை படித்த பின் பாடலை படித்தால் சற்றே பாடலை விளங்கி கொள்ளலாம்.

சுஜாதாவின் பாடல் விளக்கவுரைகளும் உரைநடை வடிவில் இல்லாமல்,
கவிதை வடிவிலேயே இருப்பதால், அயர்ச்சி ஏற்படாமல் அனைத்து பாடலையும் வாசிக்க முடிகிறது.

சோம பானம் பன்நெடுங்காலமாகவே நம் மக்களிடம் புழக்கத்தில் இருந்துவந்துள்ளது என்பது பல பாடல்களின் மூலம் அறியமுடிகிறது.

புலவர்கள் பன்றிக்கறி உண்டதாக வரும்பாடல் பெரும்வியப்பை உண்டாக்கியது.
