Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr., better known by his stage name Snoop Dogg (previously Snoop Doggy Dogg), is a Grammy Award-nominated American rapper, singer, record producer, and actor. Snoop is best known as an MC in the West Coast hip hop scene, and for being one of producer Dr. Dre's most notable protégés. His catch phrase is "-izzle," a slang term developed by Oakland, California rap group 3X Krazy in the mid-1990s and popularized primarily by fellow Bay Area rapper E-40.

His mother nicknamed him "Snoopy" as a child because of the way he dressed and because of his love of the cartoon Peanuts; he took the stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg when he began recording. He changed his name to Snoop Dogg in 1998, when he left his original record label Death Row Records and signed with No Limit Records.

The only problem is, the jacket copy states this is Volume One of the Doggy Tales. Never name your first of anything Volume One if you truly do not have Volume Two in the can, ready to go. I've noticed this problem in the arts since...well, I'm not really able to spin Listen Without Prejudice Volume Two, am I?

Snoop and his co-author paint a vivid, albeit MTV-lite, picture of growing up in the inner city; making for the armchair reader an entertaining journey into that reality. And they have the mercy to leaven with humor. I outright chuckled over many a passage.

Snoop flashes his phd in urban anthropology: Blood family is a Tolstoy prophecy, with a bottomless appetite for dysfunction: mom falls for the con man, uncle is a cheap, drunk freeloader and brother's silence is all-too-easily bought with a new pair of shoes.

But even the surrogate family of friends and neighbors eventually pops its circuitry: Women are always strong and desirable: but either salvation or sin. Men are always a hybrid of clown and king: they demand allegiance even as they fall over and over in the overlarge shoes of their sinister philosophies.

Blah blah blah. It comes with a free CD; Paul Auster rock you to sleep lately? Didn't think so.

Such an amazing piece of writing. I honestly didn't know what to expect from this book, but the story is thrilling. I don't know if this is true Snoop's story or not, but I don't even want to find out. It is brilliant and I believe it could easily happen to him, but the story is such beautifuly written I was stunned in the end.

This was a surprisingly decent book. It was a very quick and easy read and, granted, I started to read this with extremely low expectations. But the story was easy to follow, the characters were very likable, story was very realistic, and honestly I really liked how he ended it. It would have been nice if he wrote a Volume II considering this was Vol. I but it’s not like it ruined the story. Glad I accidentally came across it at the used book store.

Not that literary genius, but so lovely. It feels so different, the use of informal american english, the hood style of thinking and moving and behaving.
I have never been this astonished at the beginning of a story as i did on the first pages of this work.
Waiting for book 2. Although being almost sure it's not coming, but can't give up the hope.

The book that I think young teens should read is a book that goes by the name Love Don't Live Here No More. The author of this book is one of the best writers in my own mind, Snoop Dogg and David E. Talbert. The central idea that these two amazing authors was trying to get across to people was stand strong and don't let any thing get the best of you.

This book has a lot of thing for you as a reader to know about what things go on out in the streets also with that person. Some things that go on in this book, is that one kid grows up in a house hold of his mom him, with a step father who abuse es his mom. This was a story about going down the wrong path in sted of going down the right path. The main argument of this book is what he did wrong to go to jail. Do u think it was right if he was trying to protect his family? The overview of this story, is that a person on one hand and has to pay by law on the other. The important characters of this book is Snoop and Buddiah. They are both like brothers one looks after the other one when needed. A way you can tell that they look after each other, is when they are on the streets of Brooklyn together.

There are many different secens that was entertaining is the drama between him and his mom and how the would fight. The book was very descriptive it made me picture all of the secens in my head and I can picture how it went. The scenes that was most valid to me was, when Snoop was in jail and was telling you how he ended up in there. The next part of the story wasn't confusing but the only question still remaining is, why when people want to do good they always end up choosing the wrong path and ending up in jail.I would have to say I agree with the author because he is trying to send a message to all young teens. This book had a affect on me because if I didn't start to do good, I would of have ended up where Snoop was....... All alone.

The people who I think will enjoy reading this book are young teens. I say this because many people don't get the message of being locked up isn't fun.One things I wouldn't do is read this out loud to young children because they will learn when there time is right. A great book that I can relate to is called monster by Walter Dean Myers. If you like drama books you might want to read this one.Its interesting to read, because this has a lot of drama, surprises and all kinds of twist and turns that will keep you reading for hours.

Well all I have to say is I enjoyed reading this book, it made me see more now, that there's more to life then just being a gangster and acting tough . Just remember that there's always someone out there who is bigger than you. I learn to trust no one and if u believe in something then stand tall and don't fall because as soon, as u fall there's always someones who's there to bring u down. The main message is to stand tall and have faith

What I think about the book it's good I like it because it show the life that he had when he was younger the hardship he had to go through just to make it. Its about a little boy who lives with his my mom and little brother they living in a place that isn't so good. They are living there and they must deal with the what they have and where they live. I think it's wrong what he does just so he can have good stuff and help his mom out but he does it so they can live better. It show how he get involve with what he does it causes problems and how it lead to him having enemy also him getting beat up. Also come to a part where he comes to realize what hes doing is wrong.

I got this thinking it was a Snoop biography, but it's not. It's the story of Ulysses, Bing and their single Mama growing up in a Long Island 'hood during the eighties. Cited as 'the first in a drama-filled series of novels' it is actually the only one published (that I can find) and ends abruptly almost like Snoop got bored and decided to go do something else! Overall the book jogs along and is a fairly easy read, except for the use of slang that can be a little confusing. I guess it was some sort of crusade by Dogg to highlight 'hood living, but with morals.

A poignant view of a young man struggling to make his way in a volatile environment...and become the best rapper that the world has ever heard. I see a Hollywood blockbuster in the making. Play on, playa.

I'm trying to get an idea of what "Street Lit" is all about. I don't want to be too quick to judge, so I'm leaving my reservations for another couple of titles, at which point I'll summarize (my disappointment may just be with Snoop Dizzle's "writing" style).

I noticed in a journal that I read this. I don't remember a single thing about it except thinking I liked the word usage and that it was kinda bad.

Oh yeah... and there was a bunch of stuff were people were trying to make each other eat their vegetables!

I thought it was good. I was dissapointed that there were no more books to follow this one as the title suggests, (volume 1). It tells a tale I felt could be similar to his life growing up on the streets.

The thing that made me read this book was just the cover of the book to be honest. I didn't finish the whole book because I lost interest in it. I guess that's because it's not a romantic book and those are the books I look for.

this book is amazing and I just could not put it down, such a short read that gets straight to the point.... I would love to read more if there is another book after but does have a cliff hanger. THE MESSSAGE I got from this book is not everybody made for the street.

I must say that I expected more from award-winning playwright and co-author David E. Talbert. Where's the quality control?

Far from my usual taste, but after I saw this in Borders the other day I couldn't resist seeing what kinds of wisdom a book co-authored by Snoop Dogg would bring.
