Picking up where IN THE MOMENT left off, the adventure with Sam and Laurent continues in Paris. Like most everything with Laurent so far, Sam experiences more emotions and sensations than ever before. The highs are so high, but the lows are perilously low. For someone who had always charted her own path, Sam finds that this new course with Laurent is both exhilarating and terrifying, the scariest part being that her entire life starts to revolve around him. He’s not just her boyfriend, but her biggest client, too. As Sam tries to balance the two, one thing becomes clear: in order to protect her career, she must diversify. She simply can’t have all her eggs in the Laurent Román basket.
But Laurent is a successful man with a past, and with that comes enemies. It isn’t until it’s too late that Sam learns the new account she just landed will force her to choose between career and love.
Having worked in the entertainment industry for almost the last 20 years, I’ve met my fair share of characters. Some genuinely lovely people, some, shall we say, less than lovely. But mostly, I’ve met a lot of exceptionally strong women. Professionals with impressive careers in a very demanding field. Over the years, I’ve had the honor to get to know many of them. Over these same years, I’ve also become a romance junkie, turning to books for an escape from the stresses of daily life. And the more I read, the more I wondered where were the women like the ones I knew? Strong, successful women in their 30s and 40s who are in complete control in the boardroom but would happily give it up in the bedroom. Now, my escape happens not just in reading romances, but writing my own too.
I am a native Angeleno and animal lover, especially pit bulls. Some women fall for men like their fathers, I fell for one like my dogs: smart, strong, loyal, protective and unconditionally loving.
This is the follow up book to In the Moment by Olivia Jake. We are right where we left off with Laurent and Sam. They have over come some hurdles, learned that this relationship is fragile and needs care. What is the key for them is the respect each has for one another as well as the affection.
Since both are independent, controlling and financial stable the reason they are together is clear... they both want each other. However, with Laurent, the challenges are his actual investment emotionally with her. He never has had these types of feelings and it shakes him to his core. He is seeing his playing and lust develop into a real commitment and he wants the same from Sam.
Sam is shaken as well but for different concerns. She has been driven, independent and leaning on no one since a child. She never had a role model to guide her as to how relationships are supposed to be. Her mother raised her by herself working multiple jobs giving Sam the ambition to always be able to care for herself. To never give in to a man.
Her experience with this strong sexual powerful man constantly causes her to ask:
Am I losing myself to him? Who am I when I am in the background at his events? Can I balance love and ambition for myself and keep this man by my side?
This book had a real story to follow surrounding all of these questions; there were past shady business partners with Laurent who try to impact the couple; there is the jealous streak of Laurent and the challenge it causes in a male dominated world that Sam is entrenched.
There is also the awakening and understanding of what works between two people sexually. Pausing due to reliving some extremely hot passages..... Damn... if I smoked I would need a cigarette about now... Ok back....
This book was really another surprise and paired with In The Moment, an enjoyable read. As I mentioned in that book's review, it is refreshing to have characters fully formed and not still trying to find their way. I could relate to them as real accomplished people; people who bring grown up issues to the table and who hopefully will confront them rather than always running away or misunderstanding what has taken place.
This book did confront most of the time. When it did, it explained why the character was acting the way they were. Only once in a while did the possible repetition of Sam's concerns annoyed. Over all this was a huge win for me.
I liked this series, didn't love it, but liked it quite a bit. Liked the storyline and the characters. Well-written, no major typos/grammar issues.
George is back, and this is where the story annoyed me. Sam is trying to land a big account, mainly so she won't have to depend on Laurent for all her business. A smart move, IMO. After chasing the account for months, she finds out George is the newly appointed CEO for the company and Sam will have to work with him. Laurent, of course, goes completely off the rails and demands that she choose between him and George. If Sam had made any such demands, I'm certain they would have been scoffed at and then dismissed. Instead of trying to talk things out, Laurent walks out (like a child) and decides Sam will have to see George's true colors for herself.
I really disliked Laurent's attitude. He has heard all kinds of rumors (which he believes) about George being a rapist and doesn't think to warn Sam? When Sam does get attacked (who didn't see that coming), Laurent lets Sam take all the blame and pretty much insinuates that Sam brought it on herself. Worse even, Sam agrees! Ugh, I hate that this strong woman turns into a simpering mess over a guy who at times is more interesting in controlling her than loving her. Sam keeps apologizing to him in the hospital, over and over, and I lost major respect for her. Where was Laurent's apology for acting like a childish jerk about the whole situation? He seemed more interested in being smug about being right.
Deep breath, rant over. That was a small part of the book (about 20% or so) and I did like the rest of it, it's just that the whole George situation made me like these characters less.
The epilogue was good, and I felt good about where the characters were at the end.

If men love their women as they love themselves and women respect their men "what a wonderful world it would be". Moments Lost and Found is the sequel to In the Moment where Samantha ( Sam) Davis , owner of a successful entertainment ad agency, struggles to balance her private and professional life. She loves Laurent and has already experienced life without him and knows she would rather have him in her life than not, yet she remains fearful of trusting her heart to him-always looking for the imagined tell tale sign that their relationship will not last. Seek and you shall find. She finds that Laurent did not tell her about a former lover and did not invite her to an event where the both of them would be. In that situation, I would not have been as forgiving. After this discovery, Sam makes the decision to diversify and not put "all her eggs in one basket(Laurent). In Sam's world, she "calls the shots" as does Laurent in his world. This author puts in all the right twists and turns to reveal the hearts of these characters. By the end, I admired and loved Laurent. He does not change who he knows himself to be. Had he done so, he would not have earned Sam's respect. Both these characters are mature enough to know, Sex alone does not make for a lasting relationship. At 45 years of age, Laurent says of himself "I've lived enough life to know women and to know men." He knew Sam's nature would have her learn from experience what he would want to spare her. Based on her decision, she suffered a near rape. As in life so is fiction: What was meant for harm can be turned for good. Though reluctant at first, I'm so glad I continued reading Sam and Laurent's story in book two Moments Lost and Found. The story was believable and spell- bounding. I appreciate the author's handling of each character's strengths and weaknesses where in in the end exists the realization that the moments that matter the most exist in the heart.
This is a sequel to In The Moment and picks up right where that book ends. You really need that one first. All in all I actually liked this one better than the first book, although they were both good. I loved that these books feature successful mature characters over the age of 30. The relationship was hot and the sex steamy.
Sam makes a fateful mistake that nearly ruins everything and I know many people didn't like that part, but I think it fit with her character. She was always one to over analyze things, much to her own detriment usually. Since the very beginning she had struggled to keep work and personal separate, so much so that it seemed to almost become an obsession to her at times. So her decision should not have been a surprise to anyone.
I would highly recommend these books to any fan of Fifty Shades.
Again, loved this book. Wrote a review, not sure where it is. I love the characters. Sam and Laurent. They are both Strong, independent, successful in their businesses. They are mature, and have lived their lives for their work. So, falling in love and having to deal with the acceptance of compromise is a challenge for these two. They have chemistry and intense love for each other. The secondary characters make this story complete. There is laughter, pain, love, tears, heartache, passion and best of all, HEA. I will enjoy reading more works by Olivia Jake.
Such a good read. More of the Sam & Laurent story. Two willful, strong independent people that battle each other & others for their love. I absolutely loved that the author showed us that love can survive even the most tragic life event & best of all the characters were mature adults. A really good story.
what a brilliant follow up to In The Moment. drama..emotion..excitement. Loved the ending BUT would have liked it a bit longer explaining a few more things. overall a truly good read. now going to read Alex Marche story..the photographer friend of Sam
great conclusion to 'in the moment'. some predictability, a 'stupid girl' moment, hot sex, and a hea with an epiloge that resolved most of the questions that lingered for me.
