This text accomplishes exactly what is promised. A difficult subject is clarified and made accessible to both fledgling students and curious adults who are unfamiliar with philosophy's great thinkers. Norman's love of his subject comes through his self-deprecating humour and amusing comparisons. An enjoyable and illuminating read!
A really easy-to-understand work covering some of the writings of many great philosophers. Norman presents excerpts from a work, then offers a rewording of it in modern English. The book is formatted very poorly for the iPad though, making the mechanics of reading it difficult.
