Alone in a Rocky Mountain cabin, hairdresser Jackie Clarke wonders if a bad hair day can get any worse when smooth-talking lover "Blade" makes off with her car, her cash, and her dignity. But they do get worse--a lot worse. A blizzard strands her in an abandoned ghost town, then a blazing inferno and a lewd painting thrust her back to 1891, where she is mistaken for a a famous saloon singer. When she lands in the arms of a miner with a heart of gold, her bad hair day may become a dream come true. Maybe...
At the tender age of four, Deb Stover declared her candidacy to become the first female President of the United States. She took a detour to play Lois Lane and penned her first Letter to The Editor at age eleven. The Lois Lane gig suited her, but she couldn't bring herself to blow Clark Kent's cover for the Big Story. At a relatively young age, she met and fell in love with her own real American Hero, so Superman was free to continue fighting for justice (seriously, what is Clark doing about the dearth of phone booths these days?).
Considering her extensive personal experience with real heroes (Dad, Superman, Husband), redirecting her passion for writing from journalism to Romance Novels seemed a natural progression. Since publication of Shades of Rose in 1995, she has received dozens of awards for her work, which includes over twenty titles in a variety of languages and formats.
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Deb and her family have lived in five states, but after her Hero Husband's death, she recently made the decision to follow the Yellow Brick Road back to be near her Hero Dad in Kansas. After all "there's no place like home."
Of course, there's still the unfinished matter of her presidential campaign, but first she has many more stories left to write....
I'm so happy to be able to read Good books and find excellent writers to put stories like this one out there. This book got me from page one and did not let go till the final word.... It has all the emotions, humor, love, tenderness, lots of happiness and a little sadness plus very sexy, hot sex! There will not be a woman that lays hands on this that will not be jealous of Jackie. Cole is one hot, sizzling, hunk of a man and I'm more than jealous. I loved the story and did not feel it was predictable or rushed at all, earning solid five stars in my opinion. Now if I could only find a Cole out there for me and believe me when I say I would not change a thing! I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a very good story and some delicious sex.
Not every book has to be a potential award winner that I would recommend to my most literary friends. I was in the mood for a silly, fun, cheesy romance novel that didn’t require too much thinking, & this one fit the bill. The sex was a little over the top in my opinion, but that’s what romance novels do, and many people love that, which is why these books have always sold so well. I liked the story line, and even though predictable, the story kept my attention and made for a fun read. So, bottom line, I finished it without having to kick myself for wasting the part of my life it took to read it. At my age, that happens sometimes.
200 pages before the first sex scene. "Womanhood" was referenced unironically. I only finished it to make sure the main character wasn't going to wake up from a dream or coma or something. One star for awesome cover art and for time travel.
Abandoned in the woods by her asshole boyfriend, the heroine takes shelter in an abandoned saloon only to be sucked into a picture of an old time bar singer. She's immediately mistaken for being this woman, minus the huge breasts. As she tries to tell them she's not this woman, she's kidnapped by a rival saloon by the hero.
He's tortured by the decision he makes to take the job as he considers it unmoral and wrong but he needs the money to fulfill a promise to his dead wife to take his son back to Oregon.
The heroine, despite the fact that she's terrified and lost in the predicament she finds herself in, is funny, easy going but shut down emotionally. She's been told all her life, by her shitty aunt never to cry or show emotions. However, she has a big heart and when she finds herself in the cabin of her kidnapper with his son, she's easily forgiving of what he did and takes to teaching his boy. She's very much the aggressor in the courtship and I sometimes found myself wincing at her boldness.
The hero, who's described as looking like Mel Gibson, is kind and willing to do anything for his child. He's hesitant to get into a physical relationship with the heroine because, a, she's a bar singer and b, because he's just kidnapped her for money.
I found the story to be pretty strength forward. No surprises and very predictable with each character playing their part. There were times when facts to the story were mixed up and things were dragged out in order to extend the story but overall it was a decent story.
Jackie Clarke is hiking through a snowstorm in the mountains of Colorado, when she stumbles into a ghost town. Seeking shelter, she finds an abandoned saloon which features a risque portrait of saloon singer Lolita Belle. When she touches the portrait, Jackie finds herself transported back in time to the year 1891...where everyone thinks she's Lolita.
Cole Morrison is a down on his luck miner who is offered a small fortune to kidnap Lolita Belle and bring her to a competing saloon. Desperate for money, he agrees to it. But he soon finds out that Jackie/Lolita might be more trouble than she's worth.
This is a fast moving time-travel story with very likable characters. My rating: 4 Stars.
Got this free from Amazon. The cover on Amazon looked like a trade paperback, but then I saw here on goodreads the original(?) cover looks like it was really published as a pocket paperback romance. But I was enough into the book that I guess I wanted to see what happened, if she would stay or go. It was okay.
I read another book by this author some time ago, way before I had a kindle I'm fairly certain. This book was good, and plausible. Time travel books I always find interesting. especially love how the character that traveled through time copes with their sudden change in situation. :)
Interesting time travel book...from current to Gold Rush times ...what a change to end up in a deserted bar and go back in time. Interesting the people she comes across and links to people in her future....
I think this is a decent book for a time travel story. Not completely predictable...is she Lolita? I liked the characters. This is a pretty light read without much drama. The romance took awhile to develop but the book still entertained me. Not bad for a free book.
It was a time travel so I placed it on the ad shelf but this was not much science. More like paranormal. Set in old west USA. Repetitive plot and narrative. Found it difficult to believe in the characters too.
I couldn't finish, the book had a weepy woman who through several chapters lamented about poor choices. She time travelled, had the vocabulary that indicates foul language is an every day event. She couldn't complete a dialog without cussing or being snippy. So I stopped the b9ok.
I used to be an avid reader of romance novels. I got this free on Kindle. Glad I didn't have to pay for it. BLECH. If this is what the romance genre is like now, I'll stick to other things.
I just couldn't get into it. Stopped at Ch 2. The writing style was fine, but when the heroine couldn't figure out her time travel wasn't a joke I got bored with her.
