Meet Omari a gorgeous, hard working, twenty-eight year old man from the Southside of Chicago. No matter how hard he works at his job at UPS, it is never enough to take care of himself and his long-term girlfriend. After continuous pressure from his older cousin, Ching, Omari finally traded in busting his ass for working under Ching hustling three major blocks on the Westside. All is good as Omari juggles work and the drug game. That is, until Ching involves him in the murder of, who ends up being, the Governor’s nephew. As he dodges homicide detectives, Omari is also trying to dodge getting caught between two loves. He’s been committed to Aeysha for seven years, but is falling each day for Simone, an older more established woman who is at his every beck and call. After years of playing the side chick, Simone finally finds love that she thinks is all her own. Just as she settles into loving Omari, she finds out about Aeysha and her desperate mind begins to plot on how to finally win her man. Simone’s best friend, Tammy, thinks Simone is crazy as she herself is running from an obsessed ex-boyfriend who is persistent in trying to kill her. Tammy lives in hiding for months as she asks herself this burning question; how can a man love a woman with the same hands that he is willing to kill her with?
As the murder investigation leads to arrests, the walls come down on these lovers. Murder, sex, and indictments lead to unforeseen tragedy and unexpected love.
Author of Urban Chick Lit, Erotica, and Contemporary Urban Fiction... Jessica N. Watkins was born April 1st in Chicago, Illinois. She obtained a Bachelors of Arts with Focus in Psychology from DePaul University and Masters of Applied Professional Studies with focus in Business Administration from the like institution. Working in Hospital Administration for the majority of her career, Watkins has also been an author of fiction literature since the young age of nine. Eventually she used writing as an outlet during her freshmen year of high school as a single parent: “In the third grade I entered a short story contest with a fiction tale of an apple tree that refused to grow despite the efforts of the darling main character. My writing evolved from apple trees to my seventh and eighth grade classmates paying me to read novels I had written about kids our age living the lives our parents wouldn’t dare let us”. At the age of twenty-eight, Watkins’ chronicles have matured into steamy, humorous, and realistic tales of women's literature. She hopes that The Epitome of Femistry series will successfully emulate ideal femininity while tackling stereotypes, familiar heartache, and relatable distress in a humorous, sophisticated, and erotic fashion.

If you don't mind terrible grammar; extremely unrealistic scenarios on every page; and characters who are illogical, one dimensional, and cruel for no real reason, this is the book for you :) Not my cup of tea.
Omari and Aeysha have been dating for years. Omari has an illegal job and has also been straddling the line of faithfulness. He’s been playing around with Simone, but it’s obvious his loyalty is with Aeysha. This makes Simone unhappy and she makes moves to make herself his number one.
This book was recommended to me. Although I didn’t enjoy the book, I am always happy to receive recommendations.
Soooooo, this book:
The number 1 complaint is the writing. I don’t expect perfection, but come on. Proofread. This book was riddled with errors on almost every page. It takes away from the reader fully immersing themselves into the story
The book had a fatal attraction feel to it. Some of the story felt absurd to me, but I don’t typically enjoy love triangles anyway and this reminded me why.
Underneath all the errors and outlandish actions, I think there was a good idea there, but it kept getting bigger and bigger. Each action outdoing the one before and it became ridiculous to me.
This is not the type of story that I enjoy, but I wanted to give it try because it was sweetly recommended to me. However, I think the author really needs to take some time to edit her book.
It's been a long time, since I've read a book like this. This book contained everything I loved to read about in a good book (drama, action, murder, suspense, sex....) Jessica Watkins know she held me by the collar from page one, and she didn't let go until the very, very end and then my eyes were still locked at To Be Continued... I went through so many emotions while reading this book (happy, sad, angry....) This was a superior read, and high quality ratings were in order. I am certain that the sequel will be top-notched as well.
The characters although twisted were realistic. Simone made me want to jump onto the pages of the book and shake her. Always the underdog, she was so exploited and desperate. I loved Omari from the beginning, but like any man he had great flaws, which made me want to cut it off! Literally!! Poor Aeysha she was so depressed, and had lost hope that she would ever both worthy. Just when she thought she had everything lined up, the walls came crashing down around her. Tammy was so beautiful, but when it came to the men in her life, she just couldn't get it right. I don't know who was more certifiable in this book Simone or Jimmy. Scratch that Simone had Jimmy beat by a long shot. I never trusted Ching and he really, really showed his behind just like I thought he would.
This book was a 10 star read, and could easily be turned in a bestselling film. This was a group read in one of my book clubs, but it turned out to be so good, that I plan on reading the rest of Jessica Watkins work. Splendid job and Spectacular story!!!
This book, is actually good. Man Simone had me feeling all types of emotions lol she makes me not want to finish the other books in the series.I already know, I'm a want to continue the rest of the series to. I just knew Omari woman was going to get killed while pregnant. The killer is either Simone, Ebony, or Ching friends.I'm so irritated I hate reading books that has babies, children and teens killed. I'm also like what happen to the baby over and over.Plus, I also felt bad for Tammi, I knew she was going to die anyway so or later.I hope Omari don't end up with that psycho.Capone, and Omari actually going to end up in that drug game hard watch especially after his woman died. I was happy to here his daughter lived I'm like thank God.While, I'm over here listening to this book like um hello did she live? Glad she did. I'm just rolling my eyes and shaking my head like this ninja here.Smh… Ending had me like see I just knew. Why? Because I figured Simone had something to do with Ayesha murder and not only Ayesha, Tammi murder too. I hope they mop the floor with that weave of her psychopath self lol. I know I don't like snitches, Chance need to snitch on that hoe thot lol. Cause whoosh I never lol.
**3.5 stars** The plot held my interest from the first page. I would have given 4 stars for better editing: Too many misspelled words, one of the character's last name changed throughout the book--Ayesha's last name went from Walker to Richardson (and no, she didn't get married!), and grammatical errors.
Wow! I am angry with Simone. Crazy turn of events for this story with a very shocking ending! Too many typos. It could have received a good editing but the storylines were great! Could have been a four star book but the typos were a but much.
Spoilers.. Just... A few. I didn't know this book was actually this good. But I can say lordy, this book had me mad, sad, angry, grumpy, laughing all in one take. I was shaking my head most of the time. Always saying REALLY? What gets me is Omari own cousin Ching thinking he snitch on him just because hes not about the drug life. Someone probably snitch on him some one in his own camp or someone probably seen him picked the boy up. I wonder if he will get someone to do something to Omari. I already know Omari going to be in the drug game hard and get revenge for his women. And I cannot wait until he finds out that it was that crazy ahh Simone who murder her and killed Tammi that was wrong of her. I felt like Tami should've did what she did with Omari. He wasn't Simone man. The kid that she pay off needs to tell what happens cause he loved her so much he did anything for that crazy hoe smh messed his young life up for a psychopath like dang boy tf..
I can't wait to read the other parts of the series...
The book was actually good. I been had this book and finally gotten around to reading it. One thing for sure. That Simone girl was annoying asf. She worse then the girl from Murderville. Like damn man. Psychopath. And Omari can't see how she is either. He's just running up in her with no care in the world. But what's funny is even though his girl got killed (Simone doing) he still don't want her Ass. I cannot wait until I start on part 2 and cop 3 and 4. Not sure if I will read Simone story her Ass to stressful to read about.
Sooooo, in my opinion, this is one of those books that if you've read it, you don't tell anyone you've read it. This is not normally a book I would read. I am not a fan of romance or tons of sex in a book. I decided to read this book because at the time I got it, it was free and I just couldn't find anything I wanted to read. It got such good reviews and seemed like it could be an easy read to pass the time. The book is super stereotypical when it comes to urban or street culture, and there is not one strong female character in the whole book. It is also a little smutty...a lot smutty. One of the main characters, Simone, is so crazy and trifling that it becomes interesting. That's the thing about this book, it's like watching Jerry Springer, you know it's trash tv, but something about it will occasionally make you watch an episode or two. You won't tune in every day to watch Jerry Springer, but once in a while you just get caught up in the train wreck and can't look away...that's this book. I can see myself reading the next book in this series if I was between books and looking for a mindless read.
1,5🌟I really disliked everything about this book. The characters are all horrendous people, every single one of them. The story line is ridiculous and the ending preposterous. Even the narration wasn't all that. I chose this book in a moment of brain malfunction because when I looked at the title I honestly thought this was about a kick ass woman who was a vigilante on her spare time (and I have no idea why I thought that) 😱😵 not that it was a story about the other woman who is a psycho b!tch. I've got to start reading the precis before diving in... at least it was short and I didn't spend a penny on it as it's on KU and +catalogue audible too.
Wow interesting book. How long I had this book in my kindle, I should've read it. But I actually listen to it on audible lol. It was worth the wait. Can't wait to read the other books in the series.
Secrets of side Bitch That trick Simone is one psycho chick, Omari is so blind by her goodies couldn't see the real insecure, unstable and psychotic Simone. see that's the problem with men they'll stick their john anyway and don't think of the consequences. Because of Omari, Ayesha had to suffer. I'm pissed didn't understand why she have to go out like that, wasn't she one of the main character? I really hate when books end like, that alone will make not want to buy the next book. The ending sucks and confuses about Ayesha character.
Sexy, young and hard working who wouldn't want a man like that. Meet Omari, all he wants to do is a make an honest living but it seems no matter how hard he works its not enough to keep him and his girlfriend above water. Left with no other options he turns to his cousin Ching for help.Soon Omari finds himself caught up in a homicide investigation and balancing two loves.
Simone wants a love that she can call her own but she always finds herself only being a side piece. After seeing Omari she just knows that she has finally found the man of her dreams or so she thinks.Dates and time spent together has her opening up & falling in love but every fairy tale must come to an end. Simone starts noticing Omari is changing, which to her can mean only one thing she's not the only one. Determined not to be a side piece ever again she plots to do what she has to be Omari's leading lady.
Put on your seat belt because you are in for the ride of your life with this story. These characters was crazy. The plot really had you thinking, How far will people go just for a little bit of happiness. By the end you will definitely need a drink.I will be reading part 2 to see how this all play out.
Secrets of a Side Bitch is a good book in the same way reality television is good tv - it lacks technical polish, vivid imagery or finesse and probably isn't edifying but it is exhilarating and keeps you engaged with its oversexed and messy plot.
Watkins uses a really interesting multiple perspective voice that opens up an interesting exploration of the psyche of the person who keeps a side bitch as well as the intricacies of the relationships between straight black men and straight black women. I found the events could sometimes be histrionic but I don't think they are far fetched like some people have said. It definitely pushes back on notions of respectability and that is not going to be for everyone. Neither is the protagonist that sometimes makes questionable choices.
It was a fun listen on Audible. I don't know if I would recommend it but if you like messy characters then I would say the book is worth a try.
I enjoyed this book, I liked the story line and the plot. The characters needed more personality development and the dialogue between characters was too simplistic. I expected the book to complete to story line of each character but that was not the case. Overall it was still an enjoyable and quick read.
Crazy. Crazy. Crazy. Like what in the actual….. It took a minute to figure out all the subplots. It was a lot going on. Drama and a plot twist. I wasn’t feeling the ending though. But overall a good book.
Why do all the male characters have dreadlocks. Why are the sex scenes so graphic, unrealistic and dirty. Not a good read at all very disappointing. The fan base seems to be people who don't read "real books" just hood life masquerading as literature.
Jessica N. Watkins is the bomb! I loved this book despite how many negative reviews I saw on it. Definitely will be reading the next part to the series. It was entertaining and had it all, drama, death, deception, drugs, you name it! Simone was one crazy bitch. As much as I hated her, I loved to hate her! If you're looking for a quick and easy read, look no further.
Just finished reading Secrets of a side bitch. This book was so good held my attention from the 1st page til the last.Made me laugh and cry at times.Shook my head at the lengths some woman would go through just to be #1 in man's. life.Ayesha was my favorite character she was the only true female.Ebony, Tammy & Simone was devious.Omari I liked his character but he was starting to get on my nerves at times couldn't make up his mind. Don't want to give to much away But! This book is a must Read.Ist book by this author wont be my last I am a fan of hers for life!!
The series is so good. I was in the mood for something rough around all the edges. This fit the bill perfect. Simone is tired of being the side woman to every man she has ever had feelings for. She is tired of being left for other women. When she meets Amare she tells herself this will be the last time she is left and the last time she will carry the title 'Side Piece'. There hasn't been a dull moment. Every chapter has me on the edge of my seat.
Finally! I know.. I know... I KNOW!!! 😂 How can I call myself an avid reader and not have read THIS series, right?! Welp, y'all just don't KNOOOW how far behind I am on my "tbr list". It's ALL #netflixandchill's fault. Anyway... Jessica Murdashewrote Watkins, this is ANOTHER banger, Sis!!! 💣&💫💫💫💫💫
Whew, Lawd!! I loved this book. Before I was halfway through, I recommended it to a few friends who like this genre. It was NON-STOP drama. I didn't get bored at all. Starting Part 2 as soon as I post this to amazon! Great job Ms./Mrs. Watkins!
