As a rising medical malpractice attorney, Charlotte Taylor believes in standing up for the injured, giving them a voice, and advocating for their rights. She couldn’t do it for her mother, so she does it for others, even if it means losing the love of her life.
Dr. Clayton Montgomery believes in working hard and playing even harder, until he reconnects with Charlotte. Barely noticing her crush when he tutored her ten years ago, Clay has a chance to make up for lost time when the beautiful lawyer comes back into town…until he discovers her chosen career path.
Now, philosophical differences soon become a reality and Charlotte is faced with the choice of representing a client against the hospital and against Clay. Will Charlotte give up her career and her tribute to her mother for a second chance with the man who got away?

I loved this well-written romance. Charlotte and Clay are great characters and their love story was beautifully developed. I felt sympathy for Charlotte and her tragic past, and I found Clay to be a worthwhile hero. There were even some nice twists and turns I didn't see coming. Wonderful read!
Charlotte Taylor and Dr. Clay Montgomery knew each from when Charlotte was a senior in high school. Now Clay is an ER doctor and Charlotte is a lawyer that specializes in mal-practice suits. One major obstacle that may come between them.
In spite of their differences, Charlotte and Clay begin seeing each other. The strain of her job begins to come between them. The final conflict is when Clay is named in a suit. Clay feels betrayed by Charlotte and ends the relationship.
Charlotte is overwhelmed. First she looses Clay, then she feels betrayed by her boss Brad, a very driven lawyer who is out to make all the money he can for the firm, regardless of the consequences. Also Charlotte’s sister Renee needs her. She is a widow with two kids. Charlotte decides that she can’t keep going on this way and decides to go back to California.
Once Clay finally realizes that he truly loves Charlotte, will it be too late to win her back and have a love that can carried them though anything that comes their way?
I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. Charlotte and Clay overcame many difficulties and obstacles to find what they had, in spite of it all. Charlotte finds her family again in her sister, Renee, her friend Annie and finally Clay. They found their love for each other and they found that they could have that and a life together. I would recommend this book to my friends. I loved it.
I loved this book and could not put it down!! It is about a beautiful young medical malpractice attorney, Charlotte ("Charley"), who returns to her home town of Princeton, New Jersey to help her sister cope with the loss of her husband and her two young children. Charley is soon reunited with her first love, Dr. Clayton Montgomery. It is not an easy road for Charley and Clay, and there are many unexpected obstacles for both of them. Charley and Clay have such a strong connection that you cannot help hoping that Charley and Clay find a way to make their relationship work! Highly recommend this book-a must read!!
I enjoyed this book a lot. Charlotte, as a mal practice lawyer, faces a former flame, Dr. Clayton, who helped her recover after her parents were killed in a car accident. Charlotte's boss manipulates her feelings toward the hospital in hopes to receive a good judgement for a client. She is then put between a rock and a hard spot while trying to figure out what she should do.
There was not many bedroom scenes which I enjoyed.
Besides the struggle within her about the hospital and Dr Clayton, Charlotte is also struggling with her sister who had lost her husband recently.
An enjoyable book from Maria Imbalzano. I love a second chances story and this one delivered. The author did a great job making the reader empathize with Charlie's reason for becoming a medical malpractice attorney. You felt her conflict when she was forced to sue doctors she cared about. There were deeply rooted feelings between Charlie and Clay and I was cheering for them to find common ground between their careers. I'm looking forward to more from this promising author.
This was a sweet romance about two workaholics who reconnect. One is a doctor and the other is an attorney and even though they have great chemistry together they have opposing opinions on some important issues. This story wasn't exciting and was just okay.
