DNF at 62%

My GR friends know that I don’t rate my DNFs and will usually leave a polite, constructive review in regards to the book. However, I think this is one time I need to write down all my thoughts and attach a rating or I will explode from all the frustration, confusion, anger, and disappointment with this book.

What I liked:

- the premise of the book, which was what drew me to read it in the first place. The blurb caught me. I think it is admirable and daring of the author to tackle adultery and abuse, so kudos to her there! However, my fascination with the book ended there.

What I didn’t like:

- Grammatical mistakes/Plot breaks: since I got an ARC, I tried being lenient with the grammatical errors but honestly? There were too many. Even if I could overlook that fact, the plot development was downright frustrating. Chapter breaks would occur in the middle of a conversation or…right in the middle of sex!!!!!! It was really hard for me to follow the story line.

- Dual POVs: I normally LOVE having the hero and heroine’s POVs, but it did not work well in this book. I would read Laney’s pov for one scene and for Chance’s pov, it was the exact.same.thing. Literally. Just substitute the “she” for a “he.” It’s not cool to read the same thing twice.

- Character development part 1: I absolutely despised the hero, Chance. He is a doctor, supposedly a well-respected individual in the medical community, so when the author presents him as a rather lecherous, married man for a hero, it really kills my mojo.

“I notice he is smiling at me a lot and has not taken his eyes off me since we walked into his office. I try to read it as being polite because we know it could be nothing more. Then suddenly he stands up, starling (yes starling, not startling) me, and in a low, sultry voice discusses how he likes to hug his employees and if I am uncomfortable with that, to please let him know.” -Laney’s thoughts when she first meets the married Chance.

“Her face turns a light shade of pink and my visions take over as I think about which shade of pink her pussy might me and the way it would feel as I stroke each fold lightly with my tongue.” – Chance’s thoughts when he first meets the married Laney.

^^ Is that gross or what? If you're the type to get turned on by that, then by all means, this book is for you.

- Character development part 2: the “why am I doing this?” spiel. Both characters are married, she’s his assistant, and he’s the boss so there is this forbidden theme going on. However. How many times must I read them telling themselves they aren’t supposed to be thinking such thoughts??

“Fuck, I am a married man!” -Chance

“What is wrong with me? I am a married woman.” -Laney

Those sentences are on repeat. *cue eyeball roll*

- Timing of the events: I’ll finish one chapter and the next will suddenly be “many months later” or “several weeks later.” What happened to the in-between?? I found myself flipping pages back and forth, making sure I didn’t just skip anything. Nope. That’s how the book was set. No transitions.

- The evil man: Michael is supposed to be the anti-hero and IMO, the most interesting character in the book. I was so, SO happy that the author included his POV. Until she stopped. There was only one pov up until 62%, the part where I finally DNF’ed the book. The author dangles a Michael pov, barely explaining why he does what he does, and leaves me hanging. If she does have another one after 62%, my apologies.

- The kids: the most whiny, bratty children I've ever read about. In the real world, divorce between a married couple usually doesn't result in children happy with their parents decisions, and I wanted to see at least some conflict. These children's behaviors seemed too unreal.

To be completely honest, I am surprised that this book was even published. Way too many grammatical errors, sentences that aren’t even complete thoughts and are cut off, and chapter breaks that stunted the fluidity of the storyline. With some work, though, this book can be a terrific piece of work.

***A big thanks to Christy Dilg for providing me with a copy of her book in exchange for an honest review***

Forbidden Forever is one of those rare novels that stand out against all others since it brings out very sensitive subjects. It is not your typical perfect girl and perfect husband. It shows you the best and the worst in some people. It gives you hope for a second chance in life and a new beginning.

Laney is married to Michael and they have 2 kids together, Callie and Kaleb. Ever since Laney gained weight Michael became verbally abusive causing her to have a low self esteem. Yet she stays with him for the sake of the kids thinking that this is what is best for them. The unconditional love she has for them is what kept her going all those years.

After years of being unemployed Laney gets hired as an assistant to a heart surgeon, Dr. Chance Turner. He is definitely a sight for sore eyes; Tall man, blue eyes, f**k me hair, muscular arms, broad shoulders, and rock hard abs.

Dr. Chance Turner photo drturner_zps482cbb8a.jpg

Chance has been in a forced marriage for 6 years. His wife Catherine seems to be more obsessed with money and status than the loveless marriage they are stuck in. When Chance meets Laney for the first time he immediately feels an attraction for her and the sentiment is reciprocated. After weeks of flirting Chance lets Laney know how he truly feels. Despite the fact that they both agreed that adultery is not an option he continues to pursue her. Eventually temptation gets the best of them which leads Chance to finally end his marriage. When Laney decides to move on as well, her relationship with Michael goes from verbally abusive to physical.

Chance being the knight in shining armor comes in and sweeps Laney off her feet. He takes her in, and her kids, with open arms. He not only helps them physically but mentally as well. He is literally too good to be true, a perfect friend, husband and stepfather. But not all is well yet. They will have to endure a few bumps in the road in order to reach their happily ever after.

Forbidden Forever was written in both Laney and Chance’s POV. I did not care much when the POV changed and the storyline was repetitive. Over all this is a great book, I would definitely recommend it. I am looking forward to the next installment and see what life will bring to the future Turner family.

I loved this book!!! The writing, the plot, everything!!! I would recommend this book to anyone.( adult material that may not be appropriate for children.) It starts out with a wife (Laney Collins) who is stuck in a loveless marriage. The husband who she fell in love with is now disgusted by just looking at her. The only reason she hasn't left is her precious children: Callie, and Kaleb. All of that changes, though, when she gets a new job working for Chance Turner. He is the only man in her life that makes her feel beautiful. Stuck between wanting Chance and worried about her children, Laney must make a choice. Can she live happily ever after or is that chance forbidden forever?......

2.5 stars for this book.

I really wish I could award half a star.

I'm going to start by saying that the premise for this book is sensational and really quite realistic. From bleakness comes a rarity in the form of friendship and love.

But for me the flow was off, and unfortunately the writing was off too.

I have to pay kudos to the author for taking some sensitive subject matter and writing about them.

I did however find myself bored and skipping sections so I could read just the conversations.

This is just my personal opinion and please don't let me influence you.

3.5 stars out of 5

I liked this book. Laney stays in a horrible marriage for 14 years. Her husband Michael was horrible towards her but she stayed because of her two kids. She never thought she would find happiness. Laney expected her life to be miserable for the rest of her life. I don’t know how she took it for so long from her husband because he verbally abused all the time. Eventually it wasn’t just verbal. All I know is I felt like punching Michael in the head for some of the things he would tell her about her weight. She wasn’t even huge. From what I could understand she was like a size 12. Now if that is considered HUGE then Houston we have a problem. Laney finds a job as an assistant to Dr. Turner. Her children are teenagers and she decides she needs a job. The attraction between Laney and Dr. Turner was instantaneous and intense. They fell hard for each other and unfortunately they are both married. It takes the attraction they have for each other to decide whether they want to stay married or not. Chance (Dr. Turner) is so adorable, and OMG so romantic. He is the complete opposite of Laney’s husband Michael. He makes sure Laney knows how beautiful she is and treats her really well. Chance treats her like a princess which is not something Laney has ever experienced. The only true criticism that I can provide is the book time table was so off. It went from one scene to another and it could have been months or days that had passed by it was never really specific. Their love story happened so fast. Chance was confessing his love for Laney almost as soon as the book started. Other than that it was a great story and I can’t believe it ended with a cliff hanger. It’s not one of those cliff hangers that pisses you off but one where you just say to yourself well I guess I have to wait to see what happens in the next book.

First I just have to say I love this cover. I don't normally comment of covers but this one is so simple that it is eye catching and I just love it. Now on to the story. I loved it! I loved the characters and the story. Laney was a great character. I admit that at first I didn't like her because I thought she was going to be a weak woman that I just wouldn't like. Then as the story went on I realized that she wasn't bad at all and I loved her. She loves her children with all her heart. She even still cares for her asshat of a husband that is beyond cruel. I have struggled with weight issuses all my life (seriously I was born at 10 pounds) so I completely understood her thoughts. Then she starts work and meets Chance. He is so sweet and caring and super sexy. I mean a doctor with tattoos and rides a motorcycle, there is just something HOT about that. Without giving to much away it is just a great story. Now I will say that there were some grammar errors and and a place or two where it jumped ahead in time and I thought maybe I missed a few sentences or something but it wasn't so bad that it bothered me. I think the story and message that it brings was a lot more important than the mistakes and the time jump was ok because more would have just been boring fillers. So overall it was fantastic and I loved it and I would reread it because it really is a sweet story and I can't wait for more. The ending of Forbidden Forever made me want to hunt Christy down and force her to tell me what will happen next. This is also a debut novel and I think that Christy has done a fantastic job and will only grow in her writing. Looking forward to more works from her.

YOU SHALL LOVE THIS BOOK IF YOU LOVE QUALITY LITERATURE:

This book has an amazing story line. I have read it and appreciate the command over language of the author. Christy is a mature author. She has followed the great tradition of E.M. Foster while developing the characters. Foster had said that there should be 'Flat' and 'Round' characters. She has done it and this is what make the story alive and interesting. The book has a beautiful beginning, a well constructed Middle and an Imaginative End.

This book presents a loving female character in the lead role, who becomes a part and parcel of readers personality. The characterization is superb. Nowhere the story is boring. It keeps you engaged. Believe me if you start this book you cannot leave it in the middle. Because if you do it...you shall feel that there is a void in life. I recommend if to all my friends and enemies---as a must read.

A NOTE FOR SPOILERS:
I am hurt to note that some jealous people with ulterior motives are trying to spoil the name and fame of the innocent writer. I know this book has spoiled the market of cheap literature. There comments are inappropriate and just out of causing harm to the writer. It is unfortunate that these people are spoiling the healthy literary atmosphere on Goodreads.

Before I started reading this book, I figured it would be a light read................BOY! I was sooo wrong!!!!

This will be a 50-50 toss up for some readers, but I truly enjoyed it and the TWO main taboo subjects covered in this book are tastefully done....................Domestic Violence & Adultery.

The main character (Laney) is caught up in this vicious web but you can't help but back her up.............she doesn't go looking for it................it happens. LIFE HAPPENS!!!!!

I admired the way the author has written this story. Why? Adultery is never easy to write about...........not everyone will be on board with this subject............but while you read the story, you can't help but give Laney credit and admire her for how she handles the choices she makes and why. The other taboo subject is hard to swallow..............Domestic Violence. We all would like to believe it doesn't happen, that there is a reason it is happening...........bottom line: IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN!!!

Dr. Chance Turner grows on you from the beginning. Is there any faults to him....................NO!!!!!! (Swoon)

So, before reading this book.............which is truly a great book...............keep your mind open.

Great story. Loved the way a taboo subject like audultry (something I generally don't read about) was so tastefully done. And holy moly I needed a fan, an ice pack, and a cold shower after reading Chances POV the first time!!!!

Laney was in a marriage where every day she lived in fear of how Michael would put her down. When she starts working for Chance even though he is also married the sparks between them fly and they both know that within each other is where their hearts truely lie. They both go through with divorces, but Maichel doesn't wanna let Laney go and goes through extreme measures to try and keep her. As thing settle down from him Chances ex suddenly decides to go a little crazy too. After everything that happens I love seeing how these two make a life together.

Yummy Dr. Chance Turner does everything he can to help Laney see she is a beautiful Gem inside and out, and he help her and he kinds find happiness in who they are. That man is definitely sexy on a stick!!! Seeing Laney learn to be happy with herself and become he own person again after the abuse at the hands of her ex was inspiring.

Can't wait to see more.

HONEST 5 STAR RATING STRAIGHT FROM MY HEART

This book is an amazing work of fiction. The development of character is 3 dimensional. An amazing romance. I place the writer in the great tradition of leading fiction writers of this century. When you read her work it appears that the author is very near you. I congratulate Christy for creating this loveable and immortal heroine.

I am sure such the achievement of the author will make her place permanent in the leading writers of this century. Impact of this book remains with the reader long after closing the book.

I really enjoyed this book. It may not have been a true story but it seemed very believable. I loved the relationship that Laney had with her children. Chance knew exactly what to say during all the rough times and he really stepped up to the plate when Laney needed someone's love and support. It was a great "first" book for this author. Can't wait to see what else she's got up her sleeve.

Could not finish this book; stopped at 53%. There were a lot of grammatical errors but that doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is the way it was written. The POV from both characters were identical, like reading the same scene twice. And for supposedly being a married women with 2 kids, Laney talks and acts very immature.

I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review
I gave this book 4 stars

I really liked this book, but it took me awhile to get into it. That is why I gave it 4 stars. I didn't like how the Author did different POV and basically talked about the same thing it made it very repetitive, but a little into the book and that did change.

Laney has been married to Michael for 14 years and he has turned into a verbally abusive husband because she has gained some weight. She is unhappy and has two teenage children that she basically does not want to hurt with a divorce. I could relate to her on so many levels and understood all that she was going through, it broke my heart, that she had to go home to that man every night.

Enter Chance Turner a gorgeous doctor that Laney goes to work for and feels an instant connection to, yes he is also married but he married for all the wrong reasons, he was young got his best friend pregnant and because of family issues had to marry her. Now he is in a miserable loveless marriage also.

These two together could set forest fires! The things he says to her she desperately needs to hear, that she is beautiful (just the way she is).

Yes they fall in love, but they don't just jump into it and say hey lets have an affair, they become friends first, and it is apparent that sooner or later they are going to give in to the way they feel..

I loved this story, it was real to me, I could definitely see this happening. Her kids are great kids, and I related to them also. Husband Michael is just an asdjfasdjf yep that is what I said.

This story is about second chances, and love, and believing that even after all the terrible things that are going on in your life, there is always HOPE that you can have better, and that there is someone out there that will love you for YOU. No matter what.

Yes, they finally get together, but not all ends well there. There are obstacles they have to overcome, such as Michael turns from verbally abusive to physically abusive once she decides to leave him. And Chance's ex is not done either, she is a gold digging, nasty Bitch. There is a lot of turmoil in this book as well as wonderful happy moments. All in all I liked the story line very much and if you can get past the beginning and the alternate POV that are exactly the same thing but told from a male, female perspective then you will love this book too.

I will for sure be reading more from Christy, I look forward to her next book:)

I found myself liking this book. I didn't love it, but I did like it. It was different. It was also a very quick read, which is a plus for me. To me, that means the book pulled me in, kept me interested and flowed well.

This seemed like a very believable story. I mean, come on, 2 married people hooking up? It definitely happens.

I felt so horrible for Laney, being put through the hell she was put through. And then finding out she didn't hide it very well from the kids. Those poor kids. So glad she finally did something about it. I'm happy she found someone to show her the beauty of herself, inside and out.

Despite the fact that he was married in the beginning, he knew he was in a loveless marriage and it was over really before it started. So he did the right thing and ended it with his wife. Good for him. Laney on the other hand, she fought back and forth what to do. Took her a bit longer to see what the best thing for her was.

Chance's acceptance of the kids was amazing. He is a great guy for that right there. Accepting a woman's children as his own wins major points with mothers. He seems to swoop in and save the day basically.

While I enjoyed the ups and downs of the book, the storyline/plot and the characters, some of it was predictable. I also like the POV, but it needs to be different, not the same thing just in different tenses, ya know? I want to know what each feels, but not in the exact same moment, its repetitious.

One other thing that bugged the heck out of me, everyone UTTERED! I mean, seriously??? WAY OVER USAGE of utters. Towards the end I think it was? Every other time someone spoke, they "uttered".

I laughed, I awwed, I cried. I enjoyed it.

(ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review)

I didn't really gel with this book. It didn't rock my boat and regardless of the twists and turns in the book it really didn't have me on the edge of my seat. On the other hand I didn't hate the book either, so I guess I'm a bit of an inbetweener with this one.

I like the way the author has written a love story about `mature' adults. Although saying that there is no confirmation on age only that Laney has teenage kids and Chance has been married 6 years, so at least Chance is 25 and Laney is somewhere in her 30's. It' still makes a refreshing change.

I did like how the author highlighted has highlighted issues surrounding being in an unhealthy relationship and the effect it has on those around you, even if you think you're doing your best to hide it.

The book has a lot of positives but also has quite a few negative. I've already been through some of the positive's above. One of the main issues for me was the dual POV. I love a book that is told in dual POV but not when it is relaying the same scene almost word for word, I found that to be quite repetitive. I found it difficult to connect with the characters and I think that was because we didn't get personal enough with them, for example their age. I felt like an interloper skimming over someone's life rather than being a part of that life.

Like I said the book wasn't bad, it just didn't do it for me.

This is Christy first book and she has done a wonderful Job. The story line is amazing and so many people can relate to it. I have to admit that in some of the POV I just skimmed thru. Laney is married with 2 teen kids and her husband verbal abuses her. Her self-esteem has been shattered. The verbal abuse as always turns to physical abuse. Her first day of her new job she meets her knight in shiny armor Chance Turner. Sparks fly…
They are both married and miserable. They agree to be just friends but fate steps in and all bets are off. Laney finds the strength to stand up for her self and make a better life for her and her kids. But her Ex has other plans in mind. I am defiantly looking forward to book two of this series and to watch Christy grows as an Author.

I enjoyed this story very much. I enjoyed it because it was Believable. So many stories are so predictable always going back to the guy that hurt. But this one was totally different. The love between Laney and Chance was so cute and filled with love and sex hahaha. The story telling was very well done for a first novel. What I love the most was Laney's love for her children. You felt that love that oozed out of her for her kids. Almost makes me feel the love the author has for her very own. Chance said all the right things and he truly found his treasure and everything that came with her. He was a real man. I really enjoyed the book 4 stars. Amazing first novel. Great job

I am part of the blog tour for this book. I thought this book was ok. The story progressed well but did jump around a bit. I don’t mind reading from 2 point of views but I don’t like when they are just repeat chapters which happened a few times at the beginning.

I am rating it 3.5 stars because I think it could be improved upon with more detail about the characters, a little bit shorter, not as much jumping between characters and repeating chapters. I think you would like this book if you like romances with older divorced characters.

I want my own Dr. Chance Turner. Where can I find him? In all honesty I fell in love with this story. I hated Michael for how he treated and made Laney feel less than who she was. Cathy made me want to let my inner Chuck Norris out (just like Laney), she's a psycho freak.

Now to the good part. Dr. Chance is swoon-worthy, he's like McDreamy and McSteamy mixed together to become MEGA McHottie. Laney was a lot stronger than she gave herself credit for, which made her angst not irritating but relatable. I need more Sapphire and Mega McHottie.

I happen to be on a roll with getting the first books written by new authors. As a first one I found it enjoyable. I did laugh, cry and say WTf?? It is a short read so it was a nice change of pace to be pulled in. I did find at times the dual point of view got to be a bit too much as it was saying the same thing from both without much change. It could have used more of what he/she was feeling. The story flowed well and is totally believable.

Laney has been married for many years with two teenage children, yet she hides a secret. Or at least she thinks she does. Children are not as dumb or blind as we think they are and the author made sure to point that out.

Her life consists of her husband always putting her down and now she is at the point where she’s starting to believe everything he’s saying about her. She takes a job as an assistant, that her friend set up for her. Little does she know that Dr. Chance Turner is also in a loveless marriage and from the first moment they meet they both feel the sparks.

Chance married out of obligation and was pushed into it by his family. Yet his new assistant awakens things in him he thought were long ago forgotten.

Laney and Chance do the flirting game for a while, then come to an agreement, yet their hearts or fate has other plans. Chance leaves his loveless marriage and starts anew, hoping for the chance to show Laney what love is really like.

When Laney finds the strength to tell her husband she is leaving him, things get really ugly. The verbal and mental abuse turns to a physical one and it is Dr Chance Turner who comes to her side.

I like how Chance is just himself around her children. He’s there for them and accepts them. The interaction throughout was easy to believe and fall in love with. Yet as we all know, things aren’t always perfect and when you have two ex’s things are never going to be easy.

Yes there is a cliffhanger not a bad one really yet you are left looking for the next book. I did find myself wanting to read the next one.

I received a copy of this book from the author, Christy Dilg, in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a short read and feel good book. Where Laney is the underdog in her marriage and life. Until she stumbles onto Chance. You root for the underdog in this book for her and every average girl out there that needs a chance of their own. It seemed like at every opportunity everyone was trying to push Laney into her old life but she had the love of a very caring man who wouldn't allow it. ~Cathy
