Wolf shifter Jax Mackenzie has never been accused of being a nice guy – but being nice doesn’t get the job done. A wolf without a pack, he works the most dangerous assignments doled out by a private security company – and his latest case is a real killer. A fatal Rage virus is spreading among the members of an elite BDSM club, and Jax is determined to get to the bottom of the case.
To get what he wants, he’ll ruthlessly use his supernatural strength, his wealthy connections, and Bobbi, the beautiful coyote shifter who’s following him for reasons of her own. But the coyote is his fated mate – and possibly his mortal enemy. Now it’s not just Jax’s heart that’s at risk – it’s his life.
Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.
Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).
When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.
"He wiped the back of his face with his hand?" How does one do that...?
Aurora. No Athena. I'm sure her name is Aurora, its what has been used in most of the book. The author doesn't even know the name of her characters. Albeit, supporting characters, but still.
Dropped words.
Did no one give this a read through before it went to print?
The editing issues really took away from the read, but so did the underdeveloped main characters, the poor use of sarcasm, the lame sex scenes.
This book had potential, it really did, however, the author should have spent more time fleshing out her main characters, being a bit more descriptive on the whole and having an editor.
I'll try the 2nd book in the series, His Purrfect Mate just to give the author another chance. I hope it works out.
This is another book that isn’t for everyone but if you’re thinking of reading Fifty Shades of Grey…pick this book up instead. This book doesn’t fully focus on the relationship between the two but, it shows BDSM as it should be, with Jax telling Bobbi that the Submissive has full power to call anything off and the Dominant has to respect that and stop. There’s shifters, drugs, BDSM and a sassy coyote shifter who can throw back whatever the wolf shifter throws at her.
That’s all you’re getting out of me about the book itself, now onto my opinion about it. I loved it. I went into this book thinking “oh boy, another shifter novel with an alpha wolf” and I thought it was going to be like the others, been there done that. In a way, it was but, the woman was a straight up fighter who took none of his crap.
It was engaging, funny, maddening, and the whodunit factor. I wouldn’t recommend this book to everyone but, this reader may have just found another author to add to her favorite author list. I can’t wait to read the other books and I really hope that they are just as good and answer some of the questions I have about it.
I'm gonna be a Ranty Ranty McRanty-pants on this one I'm afraid. Oh and SPOILERS...at least one.
So, this book was a total, total, TOTAL fail for me. It just includes every weak woman cliché that drives me crazy—the good girl who wanders into the slums and almost gets gang raped (except that she's rescued by the hero), the woman who is given free drugs until she's so addicted she'll crawl and beg and blow three men while being humiliated and beaten for her next fix, the strong, capable, independent heroine who secretly just wants to submit to the big strong man, the need to force a woman in a sexually compromising position that she secretly enjoys, sexual humiliation as character development, and of course, enough gang rapes to keep me disgusted well into next year.
Having finished it, I can confidently say that there is not a single woman in this book who isn't a sexual victim of some sort. Not one. Every female non-main character is either a blithering sex slave, a prostitute throwing herself mindlessly at a man or a rape victim (often more than once of those at once). The two main characters have both been sexually abused. Forget the Bechdel test, this fails life and as sad as it is to say, I bet the author doesn't even realize this is the shit she wrote. It's just that much of a norm in America.
It's like rape and abuse of women is some sort of authorial shorthand for 'bad man' or 'bad area.' Want the reader to know the neighborhood is not just dangerous, but really dangerous? Rape a random 'good girl.' Gang rape her, even better. Never males though, this gives a different message. Want to ensure your reader knows your villain is truly irredeemable? Have him rape women. Maybe make him a drug lord who can systematically gang rape whole harems of drug addled women. That'll surely get the message across. I DON'T WANT TO READ SHORTHAND! And what's more, I do not want to read a parade of clichéd female misery and victimhood.
Literally, every time Vaughn's perspective came up I gave very serious consideration to giving up on the book. Not just because he was such a vile character, but because his vileness was so poorly written. Sure, he did horrible things, but they were things purposefully designed to bluntly telegraph **I am an evil man,** rather than to develop any sort of believable evil character.
I'd see Vaughn and think, "Great, now I have to sit through another gang rape and more abuse lobbed at mindless, defenseless women. I get it, he's bad. Can we move on now?" And you know what, I was right every freakin' time. Scenes with Vaughn were universally abusive, derogatory, rape scenes. It shouldn't be so freakin' predictable.
At 37% into the book, I made myself a note of how unimpressed I was with this common use of women in books; how I didn't expect to see a single female character that wasn't a victim of some sort and that by the end the author would put the heroine in the hands of this rapist villain. If she just wanted to give the hero a chance to save her (because she wouldn't save herself) he'd get there in time. If the author wanted to add the extra shine to his character, he wouldn't get there until she'd been raped. Then he could be such a good man that he's willing to love a sullied woman. PEOPLE, I SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PREDICT THE EVENTS OF A BOOK SO WELL AT 37% THAT I EVEN KNOW THE SUBTEXT THE AUTHOR WANTS ME TO READ FROM THEM! At least the author took the first option. That was a relief.
On a less horrendously offensive note, I was annoyed when the mission required the characters pose as a couple in a BDSM club. Of course, with no conversation, she's automatically the sub and he's the dom; because obviously women are submissive and men are dominant. Riiiight. Wouldn't want to include anything that isn't trite and predictable. How many times have uncomfortable female characters had to dress in slinky clothing and go to sexy clubs with men as part of an investigation in books? How many times have they secretly enjoyed it? I swear I've read this EXACT scene a dozen times. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've written this exact same question into at least one other review. It really does get old and it's not even a little titillating. I'm just bored by more of the same.
And that's the thing about this book. Everything in it has been seen before. If the rapes had been scaled back I probably would have just been annoyed instead of disgusted. But to have to read over-used, under-developed, badly edited, bog standard, poor PNR tropes on top of rape wallpaper? No, just NO, in big, fat, bold capital letters.
The Alpha Meets His Match by Georgette St. Clair is the first book in her Shifters, Inc. series. Each book can be read as a standalone. The main hero Jax Mackenzie was introduced in Georgette's book The Alpha Claim's His Mate but it is not necessary to read that book to understand this book. On the other hand, I do recommend The Alpha Claim's His Mate because it is a really good romance too.
In The Alpha Meets His Match, Jax Mackenzie is an alpha lone wolf intent on finding out what is causing shifters to go crazy so he can claim the reward money. Forced to work with enforcer and coyote shifter Bobbi, Jax is a complete jerk even though he realizes Bobbi is his mate. Neither are willing to accept the mate bond...at first...I won't say more cause I don't want to spoil the story but I will say it was excellent, lots of intrigue, mystery, romance, and interesting secondary characters.
I really enjoyed all the secondary characters and love when they all come together to form Shifters, Inc. Can't wait for more books in the series. Highly Recommend!
The Alpha Meets His Match by Georgette St. Clair is a different take on shifters. There is the obligatory wolf along with an otter, coyote, lion and panther. Jax is hired by a private investigator to find the source of why shifters changed rabid. Bobbi who works for the shifters council as an enforcer teams with Jax. They go undercover at a BDSM Club learn that one human employee of the club had a private sexual encounter with each of the three shifters who turned rabid. Vaughn, a Mexican drug lord, a human who hates shifters, is receiving info from Bobbi. Bobbis brother is in prison and Vaughn has men in the prison threatening to harm Heath if Bobbi doesn't cooperate. Jax and Bobbi have more than an attraction to each other. Can they get past their trust issues. Can Jax forgive Bobbi? Will there be a happily ever after. Read and find out.
Editing needed, shifter book cliches galore (including "fated mates") and a not especially original crime story. What I disliked most though was the haphazardly thrown in BDSM. Totally unnecessary for the story and not exactly exciting.
(Is there anybody out there who still thinks that spanking is oh so risqué?? That's like the most vanilla thing in the whole BDSM universe that I can imagine.)
This was still a nice read. It had a strong, kind of sassy heroine and a grumpy Alpha hero. It had some nice banter and it had a good story twist at the end.
This story was put together much better than the first in series. Grammar, spelling, plot holes didn't make a marked appearance.
In fact, there was an actual plot and not just the sex; there was even world-building. However, I wasn't totally invested in either of the MCs. Bobbi, the h, was OK but Jax was an angry sleazebag.
Difficult read with all the grammatical errors & typos Jax was not the most likeable main male character fortunately the other characters were not sure I will read any others in this series
Unfortunately I just could not get into this story, I fell asleep several times and it took me days to finish. There were several typos, but the story itself felt like there was too much going on. There were several things that didn't make sense, plot holes that as I was reading I couldn't follow. Jax and Bobbi's personal growth was the only thing that saved this story and brought it to a 3 star read for me. Their sex was good, by the end their relationship was strong.
The shapeshifter world is outed but that doesn't mean mainstream humans all approve.
Jax Mackenzie, an alpha wolf without a pack, works at Hammersmith private security taking on all the high risk cases the firm gets. His one stipulation is that he works alone with no partner.
When Jax is assigned to solve a recent rash of shifter deaths that may be related to a shifter only virus or drug, Jax is told he will have to partner up with a representative from the National Enforcers' Council, RJ Simpson. Just what Jax needs. Babysitting. But if he wants the huge salary attached to solving the case, a wolf's gotta do what a wolf's gotta do.
Roberta Jo Simpson, Bobbi, has been sent to aid in the investigation surrounding rabid shapeshifters. If word gets out that shifters are dangerous it could tip the scales in the public demanding all shifters be segregated. As a hifter herself, she's not about to let some local yokel intervere with her duties though her inner coyote does want to come out and play...

If you're looking for a complex storyline and lots of snarky dialogue this is a book to check out. I did enjoy the chemistry between the main characters along with the supporting secondary characters though I would have liked to have had more. More of what I'm not sure but there was a void in fleshing out the overall storyline. If it hadn't been for that, I definitely would have gone with five stars.
The bask and forth snark and tension between Jax and Bobbi was a laugh out loud riot as each tried to one up the other to solve the case. That aspect is probably what I enjoyed the most as page after page revealed a new consequence as the two were partners who had a rivalry of sorts.
One of my problematic issues is that there is a BDSM club scene that I felt was more role playing than a serious attempt to depict an exclusive high end exclusive BDSM club scenario. Which is also why I didn't tag this with a BDSM tag myself. Outside the club scene the main characters had kinky adult content scenes but no full out D/s BDSM to them.
As for the secondary characters. Trixie. Hands down stole the show. I will be looking for her installment and yes, crossing fingers Tyler is also featured. Kenneth. another contender to anxiously await his own story and the mysterious burglar who I'm sure will be known. Heath & Dominick will also be on my radar. :D
The beginning had everything I could possibly want. A senseless blood bath, a wolf with anger issues, a B.A coyote Enforcer and a human with a predilection for relieving strangers of items with intrinsic value. There's even an otter shifter and a mention of shark shifters! What's not to love, right?
But for me it all went sour somewhere between Caged Heat and the drugging of the lover. I won't go into too much depth with that one. Suffice to say I expected a lot of grovelling & cold shoulders.
The characters are great as individuals. Each of their flaws and strengths had been well laid out. It just fell a little short when they came together. Well, the only exception came with the savvy and street smart, Pixie.
There is definitely no shortage of twists in this read. In fact there was one that had me raising my eyebrows in admiration. It's great to see that there are some authors who save a few goodies for the end.
Bobbi & Jax, the h/H of the story, were OK. I think it was because they were supposed to come from a damaged upbringing that set me at unease. There were the token out breaks of chaos and violence whenever one felt wronged, and that's fine, but I wanted more psychological warfare. However with a lot of Shifter type romances, that hold mature content, each problem is readily fixed with mind blowing, earth shattering and hot, hot, hot! sex. I mean if you take that away from their relationship, what's left to fight for?
But I must admit, Georgette St. Clair has got me all shades of curious. As I said she did a superb job of describing the characters and laying the premises for Shifters Inc. Not to mention I've developed a taste for the angry lion shifter, Dominic, and Pixie, the human thief.
This book had me hooked from the beginning. It has a little bit of everything. Action, romance, suspense, HOT alpha shifters, and more!
Bobbi has been hired by several people to work a case that involves shifters going rabid. If her lead is correct then it connects to her brother's death and she plans on getting justice. Sadly she has to work with a partner that will make it all a little more difficult. She definitely does not expect to find friends and love that may be jeopardized.
Jax has been on his own since he was 18 and raising his little brother. When he gets assigned the "rage" case he knows that the pay out means that he will not have to worry about his brother's medical school being paid for. Whe. hs is told he will be working with a partner he does not care and avoids meeting the "guy". When they finally meet Jax is surprised to learn the "guy" is a girl that brings a whole bunch of complications with her. He most definitely does not have the time for love.
Each are out for their own self preservation and not willing to lose. With love thrown in the mix everything is up in the air. Who woll succeed love or the individuals?
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. I will try not to post spoilers but there is always the chance ... so read on if you dare.
This book is a mix between a love story and a Castle tv script! I loved reading this book. I couldn't put it down. Now, if you watch Castle on tv then you know the one you least think did it... has done it. Or there is some kind of twist you just do not see coming till the end.. well that is this book.
It is action packed, full throttle pistol packing action! From the flying silver bullets, to the a fated mate who kicks her mate in the family jewels! It has snarky zingers flying from one person to the next.
Pixie is a human who is a sub role in this book which I would love to see get owned by a shifter. *grins* It would be so fitting with that mouth of hers and her slipper errrr sticky fingers!!
aargh! my bad, for not reading the blurb... i read pixie and then decided on going through the entire series... bdsm, eeks! no thank you.
********
managed to finish. decent enough story. but for any fans of bdsm, watch the movie graphic sexual horror. s&m is not pretty. it's not emotionally safe. it's not good for the emotional (forget about physical) well-being of anybody involved. i understand using it as a thematic tool for the story, it's like using rape as a thematic tool. 80's h's were pretty happy getting raped by the H, and fell in love with him even more. that's exactly what this is.
oh, and the villain and his exploits... just more gratuitous bdsm stuff... what's the diff between the H and the V again??
They way they react on each other, such a fun read. They are almost like tow children playing with each other, but with adult things on stake.
Especially since they are trying to catch a rally evil person who is giving shifters a bad name. As an extra there is the human Pixie, she is so funny stealing everything.
Great read, full of action, sparks, bedroom and even bdsm action.
This story is fast paced and action packed. Filled lots of humor, sizzling adult content and so many twists and turns you may need a scorecard to keep up... seriously this story was a blast to read.
Shifters galore. This is a series I can't wait to read more of. So much potential. Great start to this series. I will definitely be checking out more from St.Clair.
This was a free download. I liked the premise, but the lack of editing really hurt it. There were grammatical and spelling errors, and a lot of inconsistencies throughout.
I haven't read anything by this author before, so I didn't know what to expect. Aside from some editing errors, I found this book to be very enjoyable. It has a little of everything, action, suspense, romance and hot alpha shifters. There is the obligatory wolf along with Otter, Coyotes, Lions and Panthers.
Jack Mackenzie is an Alpha lone wolf 🐺 bent on finding out what was causing shifters to go rabid and kill she he can claim the reward. Jax has been in his own since was eighteen and taking care if his brother. The pay out for the "Rage" case will mean he doesn't have to worry about his brothers medical school being paid for. He's been told he has to work with a partner which is one thing he avoids at any cost. Forced to work with an Enforcer and Coyote Shifter Bobbi, Jax is a jerk even knowing that she's his fated mate. They'll will be working together investigating why three shifters died from poisoning then lost control and killed several people, which includes humans and shifters. After going under cover at a BDSM club their journey begins. Will they work out their trust issues, not to mention the growing attraction for each other because of them being mated. Will I get my HEA??? Next book 📚 please.
Oh I really did love the secondary characters especially Pixie, the master of steeling things. Love them more when they came together to form Shifters Inc.
New, different and entertaining characters. Interesting shifter tale with some great characters. Loved the banter and vibe between Bobbi and Jax. Both are working towards the same thing, finding and stopping a drug, RAGE, that is targeting shifters and making them go mad and kill. But they both have different agendas. The twist with Bobbi at the big scene ending was superb. The rest of the characters we get to meet are so funny. Pixie the human thief was just great. Loved how Kenneth bought them all together to start Shifters Incorporated. A few emotions are bought to the surface due to a drug that is causing shifters to go insane and kill people. I have owned this book for ages but my previous reviews from the back of the book is missing.
Jax and Bobbi are a well-matched couple; however, their romance is definitely an afterthought in this story. The world-building and the Enforcer aspect are great; the grimy and brutal treatment of ALL females is overdone, distasteful, and responsible for the lower rating.
Great mystery, intrigue, who done it, who is working for who and falling in love at the worst time. Full of humor with sniffers and humans working together, good verse evil. Hope the next story of this series is just as good.
St. Clair did an excellent job on this story. I love the spice and variety of paranormal weres and their human advocates. Pixie... What a hoot! Can't wait for her and the nerd's story... Lol!
Partnered for a risky mission they have to overcome their attitudes towards each other and their ideas about Mates. This is an excellent and fast-paces story. Very well done.
There were a couple editing mistakes but it her than that it was very well done. Though I would suggest letting readers know there is some BDSM sex scenes in it for people not into that kind of thing, nothing too crazy though.
Thoroughly enjoyed the plot, but just admit I skipped a few pages that felt a little slow. My favorite character was little Miss Pixie. She was a lot of fun and kept things interesting.
