Fun reading

I don't know why the author made the characters unable to communicate with each other, but that is my only complaint.

The third flower marries, but not right away

This series of stories involving 8 sisters all with flower names is a spinoff of the Brides of Beckham, Book 7, Mail Order Matchmaker. Harriet, the matchmaker, married Max who has 8 nieces. Because of her abusive background she offers to help the girls with their matches but not until they turn 18.

Amaryllis is a bookworm. She has known Alex since she first went to school. We met Alex back in Mail Order Matchmaker as the son who accidentally kills his father because he is beating up his wife. He is older than Amaryllis and they keep up a written correspondence when he goes off to college. He wants to be a lawyer to help women in bad relationships. Amaryllis breaks off the correspondence after she over hears Alex's mother talk about someone named Sarah and she assumes that Alex is courting Sarah. She becomes a librarian instead of marrying. Alex assumes that she is still waiting for him to come home from college.

First off I think the cover is awful!!! Knowing these characters from previous books, this story is a real let down. Maybe I was in a bad mood when I read it, but I didn't like their story. It just didn't fit with what I thought I knew about them. Too much negativity, no real love story.

This story is primarily about miscommunication, assumptions, coercion, male pride and a woman trying to make her own path in a society that is not ready for that.

As an aside, I take issue with part of the side story about the writer who comes to the library to do research. This story is set in Seattle. While Native Americans weren't treated well in Washington and Oregon, it wasn't like on the Great Plains.

Amaryllis is not my favorite book. I loved the characters Alex and Amaryllis in previous books. Alex was a wonderful character as he wanted to make the world a better place for abused women. In this book however this was watered down and replaced with two characters that did not communicate. I just never got the feeling that they really even cared about each other. I was disappointed in this book as I had high hopes for this story. The characters had changed from how they were portrayed in previous books. This I did not like.

Book 3 of the Suitors of Seattle series.

So far I've read three of the series and enjoyed each one. Each one is different yet the characters are still there from the previous book but in the background. I love that because it is like getting to know a new family member better. I love series!

Love Amaryllis and Alex

I loved Amaryllis in all of the books, when she thought Alex was courting someone else it broke my heart. I am so glad they worked out out even if it took a while. I look forward to Daisy's book.
