One-Man Army

In this one, we are introduced to a sizeable cast of new characters! Einstein meets Kevin Yamagata's master Zōfū Karama during a trip to Tōkyō. The kamishibai artist asks Einstein about the ominous black bat... And a major antagonist is introduced, one Henry-Charles Duvivier, sent to Japan by Culkin Enterprises to acquire land for a future Billy Land... But this is only a front, as the agent is also a sort of censor, tracking down alternative versions of Billy Bat, and looking for the original scroll bearing the sinister black bat. Finally, we are acquainted with Kōtarō Akechi (an alternative version of Ishirō Honda, the creator of Gojira). Culkin Enterprises contracts the Japanese master of special effects to shoot a very unusual sequence: the first images of a man on the moon.

Coming back to Billy Bat after a long break only emphasizes how much there is to enjoy here, and the tale’s unique flavor.

Several interlocking strands woven across volumes, some heretofore invisible, come together and extend tantalizingly out ahead; there are reappearances of characters left behind long before, and the believable and natural-seeming revelation of unexpected relationships. I’m reminded how impressive a plot-based story can be if its progression is worked out well in advance.

Urasawa is a master of the eerie. There are shade-cousins of Monster’s Ruhenheim in these episodes, the scene full of dismal happenings into which the unlikely band of heroes injects some cheer.

Another highlight is the Arizona movie studio and the shenanigans within.

I don’t care what that assassin says, I trust Zofuu sensei. Also something I noticed while reading this is that the way it’s written, with people being able to hear Billy and Billy guiding people, there really can’t be any coincidences because so long as it involves people who can hear Billy then it can be assumed that they were guided there or they were manipulated to be somewhere in order to need someone. And I think that’s pretty cool

Tutto è intrecciato e ben poco va avanti.

Henry charles devivie saying that Zofu is using Billy Bat to change the story? Are we sure he's saying the truth? Akechi, is Shimoyama's nephew! And that night he saw Kevin! Things are getting really hard I like that
