Goldie Locke, of the Three Baehrs Magical Law firm, has spent the last several months putting together a special preserve for endangered Magical creatures. She finally has a space where she can protect the last remnants that have survived the separation from Faerie. She is also caring for her critically ill stepmother, Gwyn, and her young brother--the spitting image of her murdered father. With her own well-being also hanging in the balance, she just doesn't have time to plan the wedding of the century.
Everything changes on the fateful day that Death threatens to take the person she loves most in the world. In that instant, Goldie's whole world changes--her goals, her dreams, and her ambitions are all focused on finding the cure to the mysterious malady that is attacking the Magical Community.
What do you do when the good guys aren't on your side? Would you choose the welfare of the one or the many? And, is love ever enough?
I enjoyed this book but found it to be disturbing at times. It was very sad at times and full of hardship. The end was really a cliff hanger for the next book. I found myself really liking "Death". I hope to see more of him (that sounds bad doesn't it). I enjoy watching the characters develop and experience things that help shape who they will become.
What do you do when the Grim Reaper comes acalling
Awesome! Can Goldie take on the Grim Reaper and win? Can she get her preserve up and running? Can she organise her wedding? Goldie is fighting on all fronts in this one and still delivers some great lines. An absolutely must read for all ages. Loved it.
Enjoy the continuing development of the characters and the evolving storyline. I like the twists and turns as Goldie's adventures continue in this magical realm.
Twisted is the word I'd use to describe the book. It was good id enjoy definitely a story telling story! BTW the 4th book is "HOW TO NOT KISS A WEREBEAR" it's not in the list on Amazon for series hope this helps some people!
I liked these but I hated her waffling between the two men. Okay, I wrote an entire thing that turned into a massive spoiler so I wiped it out. Inexpensive and quick read and nice characters.
Goldie is still her snarky self but this book went ina TOTALLY different direction than I was expecting It rocked me I was in tears I feel so bad for goldie
Goldie Locke has come a long, long way in the last three books. From lighthearted, cutie figure in Breathing, she moved to a darker, more damaged soul in Bitten as she tried to manage the changes that being bitten by her ex-boyfriend Kodi caused within her. A strong Earth witch, having the bear inside her, a bear which she could not, and would not, work with put incredible strain on her. While she may have been able to manage the bear under ordinary circumstances, the bite came while her soul and her magic were half torn from her body, leaving the link between human and bear shattered.
At the end of Bitten, it wasn’t just the bear bite that Goldie suffers, but something even more horrific – and as we moved into Baehrly Alive her life, her world, and her soul are in dire peril. Everything around Goldie is falling apart, and those whom she has trusted and relied upon become the enemy, while that which she thought to be enemy could possibly become a friend(?)
This was by no means an ‘easy’ read. There is suffering and heartache galore for Goldie – more pain that someone with her kind and gentle heart and soul should have to bear. And things change drastically as she fights to save those whom she loves while finding betrayal on every side. But the thing is – Goldie is a lot more than she has ever seemed to be. She is strong, both in mind and in soul, no matter what is happening to change who, and what, she is. She is strong enough to stand up and say “No More” to make the hard choices and follow through. I deeply admire the character.
While there is heartbreak and loss in the book (this is definitely not the light and fluffy read that the first book was) the growth of the character is extremely well written, and she learns and grows from everything that happens to her, though she may be going through more heartbreak than any one person should have to suffer. There are odd things going on with Goldie – and in the very last sentence of the epilogue? A tiny spark of hope, a possibility that, though things may not be the HEA that one might have expected, I saw something there that I hope the author is truly planning to explore in a later book. A hope that all may not be lost. For Goldie is different – more different than even she realizes at this point – a difference that a creature more powerful than any other has noticed.
I was excited to see that How (Not) to Kiss A Were Bear is scheduled (hopefully) for March. It will pull the worlds of Goldie and Cindy Eller together, and will hopefully give Goldie some respite from the pain of her current condition, and keep us on track for more Goldie books to come.
This series must be read in order. The prequel is Baehrly Beginning (A Goldie Locke and the Were Bears Short Story). The first book is Baehrly Breathing (Goldie Locke and the Were Bears #1). The second book is Baehrly Bitten (Goldie Locke and the Were Bears #2). This is the third book.
I have never ever been more blindsided by a series I thought I knew so well... Plot twists and turns of epic proportions made me scream and cry and laugh. If this had been a paper book it would have met my wall quite a few times but I love my Kindle too much to throw it. After I finish writing this review I am going back to start all over and see what else I missed :)
I really can not wait until the next book How (Not) to Kiss a Were Bear (Cindy Eller #6/Goldie Locke and the Were Bears #4) comes out!!!! I love this series more and more with each book :) It is dark and funny and sweet all at the same time. Give me Goldie's candy coated morbid any day!
***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers
First let me start by saying I read/listened to this book in audio format via audible.com. I always choose audio books first as the narrator breathes life into the stories. It's like listening to a movie only better because the book is always better. Audio books also leave us hands free to do other things while reading & make a great companion for road trips!
A sweet little Faerie Tale about Goldie Locke, a healer trying to save her family members from dying. Goldie is trying to save all the creatures as well. Through out her trials Goldie meets Death. First meeting Death in her dreams or so she thought & then in life. Goldie has so many obstacles to overcome as she does her best to save everyone.
I thought the author, Elizabeth A Reeves did a great job writing this tale. It was fun & exciting and even had me shedding a few tears. I really felt bad for Goldie (the main character). The narrator did a good job too, with her multiple voices and adding excitement in just the right places! All in all the story was quite entertaining and a lot of fun!
Oh my gosh!! This is the third book in the Goldie Locke and the Were Bears series. This story starts where the last one left off. At least we finally find out who Goldie is engaged to pretty quickly.
Goldie is searching for a way to save her step mother from the disease that is consuming her magic. Goldie is running out of time and is forced to make choices she never before considered. As the going get tough who can Goldie trust? Friends become foes and foes become friends.
In this series Goldie, Donavon and Kodi are in for the ride of their lives... Will everyone survive? I can't wait for the next book in this series!
Noooo!!!! I need more! I just finished all three books and this one is my favorite by far. Needs some editing attention (please!) but the story more than made up for all of the errors. Goldie has quickly become one of my favorite characters. So much emotion wrapped up in this book. At times I felt like my heart was breaking. Please don't keep us waiting much longer for book four! Guess I'll give Cindy's stories a try while I wait.
I really like this series but for some reason this book the main character seemed to forget about her mom's side of the family during her troubles. I have also read the cindy Eller books and family is a strong theme throughout.just a little disappointed that during her struggles she didn't give that part of her family any thought.
I'll admit, after being disappointed in book 3 (Baehrly Bitten) I was cringing at the thought of reading this book (which I had ordered with book 3). Happily, I was hugely entertained with a great storyline for this book. I am still weary of the over the top jokes, but the plot made up for it. Great reading!
OK where is the ret of the story? I want more Goldie is trying to save her step mom and her brother, not to mention every endangered magical creature on earth. Her zombie chicken Fred is having babies, she gets dumbed, and the man she loves moves in, oh yes and death comes knocking.Again, but for real this time.
This book had me all over the place. I really like Goldie with Donovan so I was like a yo-yo between happy and disappointed throughout the book. Kodi is ok but I didn't feel that he was ready for a relationship until the very end of this book. Will Goldie be able to come back after going to Faerie? I really want to know what happens next so I will be looking for book 4.
Omg, what can i say.. This series gets better and better but nooooo I need more. This book introduced so many new things. It made me happy.. angry.. and yes, I cried. I cannot wait for the next book because I need to see what Goldie does and what happens.
Very different from the first 2.....darker, sadder. Break out the Kleenex for part of it. I'm not real sure if this was the end of the series or more to come. If there's more, I hope they have a more positive ending.
This is some good tale crafting. I would have given it 5 stars if the proof reader hadn't been such a slacked. One would expect better from a book from a reading house...
This book is one of, sadness and tragedy, yet compelling. There's also love, hope and friendships and surprises along the way. A necessary part of Goldie's story. Interesting and driven writing.
Love this series and the related series, but this one bummed me out. This poor girl is cursed. I have faith in future installments, but I wasn't expecting the whiplash.
