Nothing is ever as clear cut as it seems.

Well looks like I just found me a new Romantic Suspense author to love.

Race to Kill was a thrill ride from beginning to finish. It will keep you guessing until the very end with a mystery that draws you in from the very first chapter.

I happen to have a few triggers when it comes to reading books, "Delta Force Operator turned FBI agent" happens to be one of them. What? I happen to have a type here.

(though Navy men do it for me too) Well, you get the idea here. Moving on!

Given that I tend to like my books on the Rated R level, the fact that I devoured it and it was more PG 13 tells you something. Don't get me wrong, while it might not have been as steamy as my pervy little self is used to, it was still fantastic. The connection and sexual tension between Marc and Viv was almost palpable.

Although I am not typically a fan of political reads, I couldn't put this one down. I love a book that will keep me guessing and filled with twists and turns. Vivian was a fantastic heroine. She was independent but not stupid. It was so refreshing to read about a heroine without the TSTL syndrome. She was not above asking for help or seeking protection in a dire situation. She wasn't perfect. Her previous relationship left her doubting herself and relationships. So it was easy to understand her hesitancy in getting involved with Marc.

Marc was just...*dreamy sigh*. He was fiercely protective but not unreasonable. I loved watching him fall for Viv.

It was great to see a realistically written relationship development with these two. My biggest pet peeve with RS, is the whole "oh look, we're being shot at, let's go at it like monkeys" scenarios. It was lovely to get a love story that was seamlessly woven within the suspense plot. The center of the story was the mystery, and the romance was the perfect icing on the cake addition.

I also liked the supporting characters. I really hope to see a book for Scott. The second I read about an ex Navy SEAL with commitment issues, I knew I'd be all over that book.

If you are a fan of fast paced Romantic Suspense, with great characters, and steamy romance, definitely give this one a shot.

Vivian is the newly appointed spokeswoman for the senator’s presidential campaign when her predecessor/boss fell critically ill. The situation was difficult enough with opposition to her appointment from senior campaign staff but the tension was soon ramped up when it was discovered that she had a stalker.

Marcus was an undercover FBI agent posing as security and was assigned to be Viv’s bodyguard and keep her safe which suited him as she was one of his prime suspects. Needless to say sparks flew between the two of them which soon resulted in them tumbling into bed which obviously complicated matters! Over time Marcus realises that Viv cannot be part of the corruption and concentrates on protecting her but tension continues to mount as he cannot compromise his investigation and tell her who he really is. As we know secrets always come out and usually when we least want them to which happens in this case and then Marcus desperately tries to repair the damage in their relationship as he realises he loves her. Viv is obviously devastated by Marcus’ lies and deceit and is extremely angry but as we all know with romance we will always get our happy ever after.

I have not read anything written by Ms Kall before so didn’t really know what to expect. I am pleased to say this was a really nice surprise, I wasn’t sure I was gonna like it as really not into politics but that wasn’t heavily featured, the story mainly focused on the suspense and the relationship between Viv and Marcus which ticked the box for me. The suspense kept me guessing most of the way through and there were plenty of red herrings thrown our way but towards the end I did guess who the main pawn was but not the reason why or the main person behind it all.

Would I read another book by Ms Kall?....You bet! In fact I am eagerly awaiting the next release Presidential Pursuit which is the prequel to this book and is due out on 16th December.

**** 4 Suspenseful Campaign Stars ****

Book provided by author in exchange for an honest review.

I normally don't read the genre Romantic Suspense but in this case, I'm glad that I agreed to review this book. It is fast paced and kept my interest the whole time. I kept trying to figure out "who dunnit" and would find out a bit later, I was wrong.

I enjoyed that I couldn't figure out who the bad guys were until almost the very end and I loved how the author was able to keep me swerving in different directions the whole time.

Vivian suddenly gets promoted to be the spokesperson for the Senator who is running for president of the U.S. She is immediately put in danger and finds out that she has a stalker.

In comes, Marcus, a sexy former Delta Force ALPHA man, to protect her from this mysterious stalker. What Vivian doesn't know is that Marcus is really at campaign headquarters undercover while he investigates "dirty campaign contributions" for the FBI.

There is an almost instant attraction between the two of them but Marcus is suffering from past demons which hinders him from having meaningful relationships, while Vivian has problems trusting men after her ex-boyfriend cheated on her.

The more time Marcus and Vivian spend together, the more the sexual sparks fly and pretty soon they end up doing the naughty. But not all is hunky dory at the campaign headquarters, Vivian is being set up, the opposing campaign building is ransacked and the President is shot. Could it be that Vivian is entangled with a "dirty" election party? Is someone on the outside trying to set her and her campaign up to lose?

As Marcus tries to figure out what is going on with the help of Vivian's ex - he also has to come to terms with what is going to happen when Vivian finds out the truth about him.

Definitely a page turner!!

3.5 Conspiracy Stars!

Viv has recently been appointed the new spokeswoman for Senator Nelson's presidential campaign. She is more exposed to the public with television appearances for interviews. Because of this attention, she has gained a stalker.

Marc Locke is former Delta who now works for the FBI. His assignment is to go undercover working security for Senator Nelson's campaign to investigate illegal funding. Here he meets Viv and the attraction is instant between them. After spending a little time with her, he knows she isn't involved in the illegal funding, but now he wants to protect her from her stalker.

As the days go on and as election day gets near, vandalism at campaign headquarters occurs, a dead body is found, threats are made but who is behind it? Is it the Senator's campaign or the current President's campaign that is being sabotaged?

I am not usually one to delve into books about politics and conspiracy, but I must say I did enjoy this one. There was romance and mystery, all in all a good read. If you are someone who likes to read political corruption, this is definitely a book to pick up.

The set up
Vivian Reese is suddenly elevated to campaign spokesperson for Senator Nelson's presidential campaign when her mentor has a heart attack. She's more than qualified but it's a huge move. Marcus Locke joins the campaign as private security but he's really an undercover FBI agent looking to find who's behind some illegal campaign finance activities.

The issues
Soon after Marcus goes undercover, threats against the sitting president begin and evidence points to Vivian. However, she also is attacked and he becomes her private bodyguard. As Vivian is a primary suspect, Marcus needs to put his lust for and attraction to her aside but that's easier said as she's interested, too.

What worked about the story
Vivian and Marcus are very interesting characters individually and rocked as a couple. Their developing romance was sexy and ultimately steamy, even though His secret had the potential of fracturing the relationship. The story is well-written with lots of action, intrigue and suspense. The pace was perfect and while there were plenty of clues, the villains in the story were fairly elusive. The political theme was deftly managed without committing to any ideology.

The bottom line
This was a really nice surprise as I was unfamiliar with the author and didn't have any preset expectations. The story is nimbly told with strong, interesting and appealing characters. I'm hooked and will be continuing this series, which was another pleasant surprise...when I agreed to read this I believed it to be a standalone. If you like romantic suspense, you'll like this book!

I really enjoyed this one! I've always been a big fan of ehe romantic suspense genre, although I've not been reading as much of it lately as I used to.. But Rachel Kall definitely knows how to write a sexy story with plenty of suspense and a story that keeps you guessing until the very end...

Vivian ...

Political campaign advisor that really knows her stuff.. she's smart, beautiful and NOT weak! She loves her job and she's damn good at it. She's always been mostly behind the scenes until a turn of events puts her front and center on the campaign...She's getting a lot more attention now and a lot of it is definitely unwanted...

Marcus....

Former Delta Force Operative now working security for the same campaign Vivian is on. He strong, sexy, and protective. He's given the task of protection and security for the campaign, including Vivian. When Vivian starts attracting extra attention his focus become her. However, Marcus has secrets and he's there for a lot more that security detail...

It becomes clear that someone is out to sabotage the campaign Vivian is on and they will stop at nothing to get what they want.. When the other campaign is targeted and things get pretty violent..all things point to the other team.. Viv's team. Viv also appears to have a stalker which is making Marcus's job that much more difficult.

As Marcus and Vivian fall for each other, Marcus has to try to keep his feelings for Viv separate from his job to protect her.... but he's there for another reason also and once Viv finds out why he's really there.. well.. Marcus is gonna be in a world of shit.

I did really like this one and although the steam level was not as high as I normally like, the story was enough to keep me very interested. Yes, there IS SEX ( I know lots of like to know that up front :) )..it's just not as detailed as I like.. so don't despair! I had no idea until the very end who the actual bad guy behind everything was and I LOVED THAT. Most of the time in suspense novels, you can pretty much tell early on who the baddies is.. but that was not the case here. I loved actually NOT knowing early on who it was and trying to figure it out.

I enjoyed the story of Marcus and Vivian and although there was a political theme to the story which I usually don't enjoy much I did enjoy it here. It was a page turner that kept me guessing till the end.

If your looking for romantic suspense, I definitely recommend this one!

3.5--Political Schmolitical--Stars!!

So, yeah....politics

But I do like to dabble in the romantic suspense genre so I gave this one a try. And it was enjoyable enough. I wouldn't say it WOWED me or anything but I was entertained and pretty much read it in one sitting.

Vivian is the lead campaign spokesperson for one of the parties during the recent presidential election, thrusting her in to the spotlight.

Marc is former Delta Force and is working undercover investigating possible illegal campaign financing. He's posing as security during the election.

Threats start to arise and Marc is forced to play bodyguard to Vivian. Marc and Vivian start to fall for each other in the process. Vivian doesn't know Marc is working undercover....when the presidential race turns deadly both Vivian and Marc have to put their trust in each other if they want to come out alive.

The story builds nicely. I was constantly questioning everyone.

Who done it?? Was it you Scott? Ralph? Serena? Marc? Oscar? Mystery Mall Man? Is was you Arthur wasn't it??? WHO WAS IT????

Okay, well I kind of knew it....a little bit. I thought anyways. I mean I knew he had something to do with it.

It really didn't all come together until the very end of the book. The author did a good job of building the suspense...leaving the clues...and making us work for finding out who the bad guy was.

Personally speaking, politics bore me but this one didn't get too deep in to the politics....overall, I liked all of the characters. This was a bit more PG-13 then I prefer...the sex was very fade to black. But Marc and Vivian had some nice chemistry.

It does appear to be a series, but this book was a standalone with a HEA. I would definitely recommend if you like the romantic suspense genre.

hmmm, I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. I really liked it,.....I just sorta felt like it lacked a little something. I'm not really sure what that little something was, just left me wanting a little more, I guess?

The whole politics thing is not my cup of tea, however, hot ex-Delta becomes protector for lady in distress, right up my alley. :)

Viv has been given the opportunity of a lifetime being the spokesperson for the senator running to be the next president. Marc is working undercover for the FBI trying to find out a funding scandal for the same Senators team. When the two first meet Viv swears he is just the type to break her heart and is determined to keep him at arms length, however Marc sees Viv as an opportunity to get inside info. But when the two agree to go out for a drink they both can't deny the obvious attraction to one another, but before they can take that attraction any further Viv and Marc discovery Viv has a stalker and that is just the beginning of the troubles in store.

I really liked the story it moved quickly, and had lots of suspense. I wish some of the scenes between Marc and Viv would have been a little more than fade to black. It seemed Marc could be really hot but the reader never really got to see just how hot between the sheets. If you know what I mean. I had never suspected the person it turned out to be causing all the trouble or who their helper was. I was shocked, actually!!!

Overall, it was a really good read. Marc and Viv were a sweet couple and had a sweet ending. I like Scott, and wouldn't mind reading his story. Maybe even get to see him fall head over heals and have to chase after it a little after how he reacted to his and Viv's relationship. I'm evil, I know. :)

Being part of any campaign has to be one the most thrilling and exciting jobs in the world! You are right there for the action and race to take the win.

The drama that can unfold however, is one the least favorite parts and it takes a strong and very confident person to handle that kind of stress, go with the flow and hold out till the end when victory is declared.

But when you are the center point of the drama and all eyes are on you, it no longer is as easy as "Bring it on I can take it". You need to fight to get out on top, but when it turns deadly and it is a fight to stay alive, it becomes so much more than just a job.

It is the most important challenge of your life, and making it to the finish line will be the win of the century.

In this read from author Rachel Kall, these are the circumstances Vivian faces, she gets a huge promotion but instead of running full steam ahead to show everyone what she is made of, she ends up being suspect number one in the most important case of ex Delta Force operator Marcus (yes you read it right I said DELTA FORCE, from that alone you can tell this hero was all kind of amazing kick ass sex on legs), turned FBI agent.

He becomes not only her protector but also the one that will need to bring her down if she turns out to be the guilty party in a the crime of the century. The race to the final kill is on and things are about to get super hot and spicy!

The main characters of Marcus and Vivian were absolutely brilliantly written! I loved them both to bits! Strong, determined and ready to do anything in the name of their work. The author showed them both as we are all meant to be in real life, confident enough to take on the world to prove a point but weak enough to crumble when we reach the point where we realize the game play has changed and it is time to back down in order to let someone else lead, for alone with our own set of rules it simply will not work.

The backdrop settings and dialogue was all action, heated passion and kick ass romance! I simply could not stop myself from putting this read down once I stated ! It was as if I was in a world of passion found amongst a totally amazing, rocking, kick ass action film only far more intense!

The author kept my attention at all times, never a dull moment in this read. And my oh my was the suspense awesome! More than once I was shouting out loud " That did not just happen, really I did not see that coming".

I am taking away a message of not all is what it seems but if you want something bad enough fight for it, don't let first impressions fool you, dig around until you have all the facts once you have it all confirmed you will know for sure if it was just your mind telling you what and who you wanted or if it really was your heart leading you to happiness.

I highly recommend this read for all fans of romantic suspense ! Truly edge of your seat reading material, I anticipate this one to make it all the way to the top.

3.5 undercover stars.

Viv Reese is living her dream, she is the campaign spokeswoman for the Presidential campaign for the Senator she not only admires, but a man that is like a father to her. She is under enough pressure after being thrust into the spotlight in the middle of a close race, a man was the last thing she need.

Special Agent Marc Locke is going undercover seeking out evidence of campaign finance fraud. Former Delta Force Operator who left the service to join the FBI after a mission went wrong; he is using his career to seek his own redemption for the events that occurred under his command. Working undercover as private security was something he knew he could handle, the sexy woman that is on the suspect list was not what he expected. But the investigation is placed on the back burner as a much larger plot unfolds.

Little unknown fact… I’m a bit of a political junkie *gasps* however, I typically leave my poli-reads to non-fiction books. But Rachel Kall does a great job in keeping this story very a-political without throwing in any bias left or right, allowing you to read the story without ideology getting in the way.

So we get a suspense that includes not only a hot ex Delta Force with demons in his past, we get a Seal thrown into the mix with commitment issues, color me content.

The story was well told and the plot was well thought out. The way the story unfolds doesn't allow you to guess ahead too much, but I did start to put the pieces together a little ahead of the way it played out in the book. I can’t help it with mystery/suspense reads – It’s like it’s a race to figure it all out and I want to win. Every. Time.

For the romance side of the story, this fell just a tiny bit lower on the scale. I like a little more of heat and tension when it comes to the mattress action. But I can see how the sex in this had to fit within the plot, which is where it belonged. I did not connect to the characters nearly as much as I wanted, and I think if I had it would have been bumped to a 4 star read. But there was just something missing for me that I can’t put my finger on that kept me detached.

In all, it was an entertaining read and I would not think twice about checking something else out from this author in the future. Like a few others, I too would not mind a little book about a certain Navy Seal…

I love romantic suspense so this was right up my alley. And it also had the added bonus (for me) of taking place on a campaign. And having worked on a campaign in the past, I found this interesting.

I liked Mark. He was sent in to the presidential campaign to find corruption and he was running into road blocks. So he decided to get closer to Vivian, the newly promoted campaign spokesperson. He just doesn’t count of Vivian acquiring her very own stalker. So what’s a good FBI/former Delta Force Operator to do? Why, become her bodyguard of course! And hey, if they happen to fall for each other while all this is happening…all the better. ;)

But, seriously, she did acquire a stalker. And that was interesting. She went from working behind the scenes to being on television and in interviews and someone became obsessed. My one complaint was that this part of the storyline ended so soon. It was a little abrupt to me. I would have liked to see more from the stalker.

But just because that was the end of the stalker, doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the plot. There was a bigger bad guy with bigger plans. There were a few things that happened that were more behind the scenes. The characters (for the most part) weren’t part of the action, they reacted to it. There were only a couple instances where it was actually happening with them there or to them. But don’t be fooled by that, this book was still really good and hard to put down.

I would definitely recommend it to people that love romantic suspense and I’m dying to know what happens to Scott. Oh, did I forget to mention him? He’s the hunky Navy SEAL ex-boyfriend of Vivian’s. And he became friends with Mark (can you say awkward?). But I’m incredibly intrigued by him and I’m really hoping that the author will write him his very own book. :)

My rating: 4 of 5 ⭐️

Newly appointed spokesperson for the senator's presidential campaign, Vivian Reece, feels a little bit like a fish out of water at this unexpected development. Especially when, after her first televised appearance, she apparently picks up a stalker. Not prepared to take any chances, the head of the secret service assigns a security specialist to shadow her at all times. Not having had much action on the social front recently, Viv is more than a little distracted by her protector, ex-Delta Force operator, Marc Locke.

Placed undercover as part of the Senator's security detail by the FBI to investigate campaign fund fraud, Marc Locke finds himself quickly entangled in an unexpected stalking investigation involving the beautiful campaign spokesperson. With the go-ahead nod from his superiors, Marc is trying to use this new twist to try and glean as much information for his own investigation as he can. But with the gorgeous Viv under unknown threat, it seems there is little else he can think of but her.

When a series of events involving both the president and the senator's campaign offices places Vivian in a suspicious light, the case takes yet another turn. Unsure of who is trustworthy, Marc sticks close to Viv, in fact, he never leaves her side, but it is becoming more and more difficult to keep his true identity from her. Especially since they have gotten very close and personal, and the last thing he wants to do is hurt her.

****

Political intrigue, hot undercover agents, mayhem and murder, gripping suspense and a tentative, unplanned romance....... A complete package!!

An incredibly fast-paced novel that has no slow moments whatsoever. Very few words are wasted on descriptions other than those that directly impact the story. An intricate plot with lots of twists and turns, but very well executed and clearly outlined so no confusion can exist. It isn't a difficult book to read, but it does require attention, but the fast pace won't allow your mind to wander far.

I enjoyed the main characters, who were both strong and self-assured to an extent, at the very least on a professional level. They had an easy connection that moved from friendship into a more intimate connection. There certainly was chemistry between Vivian and Marc, although it didn't necessarily leap off the pages and the heat was quite mild and as speedy as the rest of the story.

I really liked the addition of Scott, Viv's ex, to the plot. He is a likeable ex-SEAL with some handy qualities (yes, Ma'am!) he brings to the table, and added an interesting dynamic. I can see the beginning of the next novel or perhaps as part of the series developing. Maybe that's where Serena, Viv's friend will fit in as well.

For those who enjoy a little fairly reserved (for my standards) bedroom action with their high powered, high action suspense......this would be a good read!!

✨Powerful, clever and tight romantic suspense with a hint of spice!✨

About The Author: A member of Romance Writers of America, KOD, and Georgia Romance Writers, Rachel Kall enjoys sharing her talent by writing romantic suspense and contemporary romance. Legally Undercover was also released this year in audio.

Connect online: Facebook: facebook.com/Author RachelKall; Twitter: twitter.com/RachelKall; Website: RachelKall.com

About the Story:
Vivian Reese has it all--looks, intelligence and a great job as the spokesman for a senator campaigning for the President of the United States. However, the campaign starts unraveling when certain incidences happen that point to foul play by team members of the campaigning senator.

Marc Locke, a past special agent for Delta Force, now working for the FBI has been tasked to find out whom in the senator’s campaign team is accepting illegal contributions from a Super Pac. He gets attached to the team as a security specialist working under the Secret Service.

Vivian meets Marc while he’s working security at the entrance of a building where she’ll be speaking live at a national TV spot. He wouldn’t let her pass because she had left her ID in her car. After a few words and someone vouching for her he let her enter. Vivian thought he was a hunk, but she didn’t have time for men right now. And when she found out that Marc had been in the Delta Force, she definitely wanted to steer clear. Her ex had been a SEAL and he had cheated on her. No way would she tie herself to another alpha male.

Marc on the other hand was VERY interested. However, he needed to find out if she was involved in the financial shenanigans, not to find his way into her bed. Although the best way to do that was to see if he could draw her out, get to know her. Of course, another part of his anatomy was very happy to come to this conclusion. Yeah, as far as he was concerned, she was hot.

Bad events start to escalate and they all seemed to point to Vivian. At the same time Vivian felt that she was being followed. Would Marc be able to protect her? Was she telling the truth? Should he follow his gut and believe her? More people besides Marc are carrying around secrets and some just might be deadly.

My Thoughts:
The story line was very believable. I enjoyed the relationship that grew between Vivian and Marc. Vivian had a hard time trusting another alpha male. Her ex-fiancé told her that he cheated on her. So this inner conflict in liking Marc and knowing she shouldn’t trust him was taking place. Marc also felt that his decision during an operation in Delta Force was the wrong one—killing one of his team and injuring others. He couldn’t forgive himself for that, neither could his best friend who was part of the operation. So when Marc had to make decisions to save lives, to save Vivian, he wasn’t sure if he was making the right ones. These internal conflicts only deepened the suspense of the story. Since this is book 1 of a new series, I’ll be looking forward to book 2. There were some minor characters in the story that I could see needed a story of their own.

Vivian is political spokesperson for the upcoming presidential election and Marc is an undercover FBI agent with military background investigating possible criminal fundraising. He gets close to Viv hoping to get information for his case. Due to threats that Vivian is getting, Marc now becomes her bodyguard. Their attraction grows as time spent in such close quarters brings them together and real feelings evolve. The mystery needs to be solved and not everyone is who you think they are.

This is a mystery thriller/love story. If you like that type of story I think you might enjoy this. For me I can’t say that I did. It is written very well and the concept had potential, but I was not wowed even a little bit. If I am going to read a book like this I have to at least develop connections with the characters. The story content really needs to pull me in, so that I feel like I can’t stop reading because I want to know what comes next. The story is definitely more fantasy then realism.

If I were browsing ebooks and came across this one’s title, I am going to be honest here, it is not something I normally would have clicked on. As a reviewer it is my responsibility to help readers make their OWN informed decisions. What I like you may not like, and vice versa.

Race to Kill by Rachel Kall is the first book in her new A Love and Scandal series. Race to Kill is a romance suspense story, and it is the first book I have read by Rachel Kall, and I am impressed. The story was excellently written and put together so well. From the beginning the story caught my attention, and for the rest of the way I could not put it down. It was an exciting, suspenseful, interesting, and sexy story with a political campaign background.

Vivian Reese is our wonderful heroine. Viv worked in the campaign for a Senator running for President. An exciting time for Viv, who is early on pushed to the forefront of the campaign, when her mentor and boss suffers a heart attack.

Marcus Locke is an FBI agent, formerly a Delta Force soldier, who goes undercover, as private security, to investigate campaign funds fraud. While he secretly investigates the people involved in the Senator’s campaign, Marcus finds himself becoming enamored of Viv. Things quickly take a turn for the worse though, as Viv has a stalker and Marcus is assigned by the Secret Service to protect her. Eventually, their sexual chemistry will also bring them together romantically, and they made a great sexy couple.

There are so many twists and surprises along the way, as besides Viv, other members of the campaign become involved in the mystery. When the President’s life is threatened, the danger becomes very real, and way beyond a stalker or finance crime. Viv and another member of the campaign team are suspected and Marcus, not only must protect Viv, but change his direction of the investigation to find the truth behind these attempts tosabotage the campaign for both parties.

What I loved about this book was how well, Kall wrote the story, with the campaign storyline, and the overall exciting action, and yet gave us enough of this romance to find ourselves invested into this couple. Both Marcus and Viv, were smart, savvy and great characters. Kall created some great secondary characters, especially Viv’s ex, Scott, who was a former Navy Seal, and I enjoyed how he and Marcus over time became unlikely friends. The two of them worked together to save the day. Race to Kill was a wonderful story, filled with action and suspense, not to mention a great romance. What more could you ask for in a book? I really enjoyed Rachel Kall’s writing style, and will happily read her again.

Four stars from this happy camper!

I really enjoyed reading this book! I'd call is a romantic political suspense. It was a nice change of pace from other romantic suspense books I've read. And I have to admit- I THOUGHT I had the bad guy figured out around 20-30% in and man was I wrong!!! That made me so happy!!! I hate it when I can accurately predict that stuff!

The plot line is solid, I didn't notice any unresolved issues. There are a few editing and grammar mistakes around, but nothing significant and nothing that really detracts from the reading.

My BIGGEST concern was the snippets of one of the bad guys in the beginning. I thought it added a unique twist but then something happens and they stop. They DO pick up again much later on in the book, but I think either A) they should have been omitted all together or B) they should have been more consistent in the middle of the book.

My other concern (which isn't really a big deal, but just a small thing that didn't sit right with me) Is that there's an incident that occurs at the "other guy's" campaign headquarters. It just so happens that our heroine, Viv's, BFF works there. A BFF that she's met with a few times up til then, a BFF whom she drops everything and went to when she needed a shoulder. But when this incident occurs Viv says absolutely NOTHING about her BFF. No "OMG I need to make sure she's OK!" or anything of the sort. It seemed, to me, out of character for her.

Other than that- this is a solidly written piece and I highly recommend it! OH! And you'll LOVE Marc and Ranger!!!

Race to Kill by Rachel Kall is a fast paced romantic suspense book with a mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end! After her boss is hospitalized, Presidential campaign assistant Vivian Reese finds herself thrust into the spotlight as the new spokesperson. Not only does she have new job she finds herself with a stalker and a hottie protector Marcus Locke. As the story unfolds these two face many challenges. Vivian becomes a suspect in a string of events linked to the campaigns and Marcus is trying to balance his undercover work while protecting the woman he is falling for. With Marcus's secrets and Vivian's relationship trust issues can these two make it?

I have to say that I truly enjoyed this read! Both of the characters were awesome! I love reading books where the heroine is a strong independent female. The whiney whoa is me characters tend to wear on me. Marcus is a total ALPHA male! If you like these type of hero's then you will love Marcus! Another thing I enjoyed about this book was even though the story line centered around a political campaign it did not go anywhere near Democrat vs. Republican *phew* Just two sides working hard with a Villian in the mix that I did not see coming! I highly recommend this read if you are looking for something fast paced, with two strong leads, suspense, romance and a mystery that will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering WHO IS IT!

Plot twists and turns create a real page-turner in Rachel Kall's political romantic thriller Race to Kill

Rachel Kall's romantic thriller, Race to Kill (A Love and Scandal Novel), is a book that draws you in with its depiction of the behind-the-scenes action of a presidential race. Soon however, the focus really shifts to the interaction between heroine Vivian Reese and undercover FBI agent Marcus Locke. It's apparent that their initial antagonism masks a fierce attraction.

At first Marcus, who is undercover as a bodyguard for the campaign trying to sniff out campaign finance fraud, swiftly shifts gears when Vivian becomes threatened by a stalker. She's become the campaign spokesperson by default after her boss suffers a heart attack and the media attention seems to be drawing some scary attention to her.

Marcus moves in with her and soon, well, those sparks may ignite. But all is not what it seems and this book becomes a serious page-turner as Vivian and Marcus try to discover who's behind all the threats.

This is a fun, fast read and held my interest with the plot twists and turns. I'm looking forward to reading more Love and Scandal novels by Kall in the near future. If you like romance, suspense, and are intrigued with politics - this is the book for you.

I recently received a Goodreads first-reads copy of Race to Kill by Rachel Kall. Let me start by saying that I gave this book 3 stars not for the writing but because of the editing. It was distracting to see misspellings and grammatical errors. In all honesty, I quickly overlooked those errors, because I really enjoyed this book. The setting is in Washingon, DC, during a Presidential race. Viv Reese is thrust into the national spotlight as campaign spokesperson for the challenger, Senator Nelson. Undercover FBI agent, Marc Locke, is sent to investigate Nelson's campaign for illegal contributions. He is quickly forced to alter his mission, and he becomes Viv's bodyguard. Strange things are happening to Viv. She has a stalker, her stalker is murdered, she is being followed, and someone is trying to frame her for attacks against the President's campaign. Without revealing more, let me say that this was a quick, enjoyable read. The main characters were interesting and likeable. I love a good mystery, and the author kept me guessing. I always try to figure out whodunnit, but I never did figure it out. It was fun to be surprised. The book was fast-paced and exciting. Although set in the world of Presidential politics, the book is not political. It's more about relationships, intrigue and corruption. This was a very enjoyable read.

I will be the first to admit that out of all the romance genres out there I am just not a fan of Romantic Suspense. I find that it is either all action with bad romance thrown in or the other way round, romance with a bad suspense story line. I am pleased to say that this book manages to get the balance of the two perfectly.

You have Viv, who is in charge of the campaign for the Senator running against the female president (yup, I said female president), and Marcus, an ex-special force soldier now FBI agent undercover within that campaign. Added to the mix is the reason that Marcus has been placed undercover in the first place, suspicious evidence regarding campaign finances, then add a stalker into the mix for good measure and your in for a treat. The addition of Viv's ex who also happens to be ex military, SEALS, and well, what can I say!!

The story had me guessing right up until the point of reveal who was involved in what way, one person I was convinced must be involved ended up being a victim of sorts as well, that is how well the story kept you guessing.

If you are after a book for the romantic suspense genre then you will not go wrong with this. However if you are after a romance, pure and simple, then you will enjoy it but may be disappointed.

Please note I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This 4 star read had me on the edge of my seat and second guessing the whole way through! This story is of a Presidential race, with some serious troubles occurring. The main character Marc, is your typical ex-army guy who now works for the FBI. He is strong and built well and of course good looking. There is also Vivian Reese who is the strong woman lead in this story, who has been hurt in the past by the typical ex-military man.

Race to Kill takes you on a wild ride with ups and downs, and in the end you will think you have it all figured out, but you won’t. Rachel uses strong details to tell this story of scandal, corruption, and treason. There is a love story in there somewhere but it really isn’t needed because the suspense keeps you moving on through the story.

There is also a back story playing out, about a friendship that starts between the two ex-military men. Both of these men need a friend in their lives. It really is touching how they work together after their meeting where they both wanted to pounce each other.

If you like a read that keeps moving, and is full of suspense, this book is certainly for you. However, if you are looking for the romance, with hot steamy descriptive sex, you might be let down. This didn’t bother me at all though because honestly it was a good, easy read.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a romantic suspense novel. Once I read the blurb and an excerpt from A Race to Kill, I got excited. To earn the title of a great romantic suspense novel, the book needs to keep me on the edge of my seat and feeling as though I’m on a rollercoaster. Race to Kill did exactly that. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. There were several twists and turns in the book and the ending was a total surprise. I never suspected the villain was who it turned out to be. That is a rare find. Normally I figure out who the bad guy is at the beginning or at least by midway into the book.

Ms. Kall built her world and characters with extreme effectiveness and efficiency. I felt as though I knew most of them quickly. She drew me right into the web of her Love and Scandal world and I don’t know if I’m ready to leave. The release date for Presidential Pursuit, which is listed as the Prequel for A Race to Kill, isn’t listed. I can’t wait to read more from this world and hope that this is happening soon.

If you want a novel that will keep you up late reading, A Race to Kill is perfect for you.

REVIEW:
This is my first time reading a novel by this new author and I was very pleased. I love special ops books and this hit all the marks. I grew to like Marc and Viv and their hot romance built nicely while the danger and mystery surrounded them. I was also glad that she didn’t get bogged down in politics and kept it about the characters. It is fast paced, full of intrigue and kept me guessing as I quickly turned the pages. I look forward to reading more from Rachel Kall and hope there is a book in the future for a certain Navy SEAL.

Need a story with Suspense and Romance… than Race to Kill is the one for you.

Vivian is a strong independent character but when she suddenly finds herself in trouble she needs to allow Marc Locke a security specialist with the Nelson Campaign to watch over her.

Marc finds himself falling for the woman he is supposed to be protecting. But he has another problem, he’s supposed to be investigating the Nelson Campaign. Will him being undercover for the FBI cause him to lose the possibility of wonderful things in the future?

The suspense of not knowing who is after Viv or setting her and the Nelson Campaign up will have you guessing the whole time. First off Viv has a stalker that suddenly is killed. Then, she is accused of vandalizing the President’s campaign.

Marc worries that there isn’t anything he can do to protect Viv. When the truth of what he is doing comes to light will Viv’s life be put in danger.

All these questions can be answered if you run out to buy the book.
Happy Reading… Adri

Sex, Politics and Mayhem! Wow! I loved Race to Kill! Every page in this novel was exciting with twists and turns. Rachel Kall did a great job at keeping me on my toes – if it wasn’t one thing, it was another driving the suspense along. The political issues, the campaign workings, and the relationships were believable. And of course, my favorite, are the hot scenes. Ms. Kall’s sexy scenes had my heart beating fast.

Hotness alert! I loved Marc, the hero, who is a true Alpha male. A retired Delta Special Ops, turned FBI agent undercover. His protective instincts were a turn on and his clear immediate interest in Viv was real.

I always enjoy reading a smart, educated heroine and Viv was a prime example of this! Heading the PR of a Senator’s campaign is a tough job, but Viv didn’t back down. She knows what she wants, be it career related or men related.

If you want to read a hot, new romantic suspense, pick up Race to Kill. You won’t be disappointed.

This was a good book, a little easy to predict but good just the same.

Vivian works for a politician that is running for President and is requested to cover media interviews for him to drum up the votes. She begins getting letters from a stalker, a bodyguard is hired to keep her safe.

Marcus is the new bodyguard and he really likes Vivian who is prim and proper but has no problem standing up to him.

I enjoyed the storyline and it had good flow but as I said it was pretty easy to determine what would happen next. If you enjoy political suspense with romance this is a good one for you.

Good continuation of the Washington, DC-based suspense series. In this one, the deputy spokeswoman for the opposition candidate has suddenly been promoted to Chief Spokesperson. Vivian Reese is now the face of Senator Nelson's Presidential Campaign against incumbent Helen Riley.

There are quite a few twists and turns here, including Marc Locke's double duty as both Security for Viv and as investigator for the FBI on campaign finances. Together, they become embroiled in both an intense love affair and a conspiracy attacking both camps. To complicate this more, Viv's ex, SEAL Scott Ranger, appears and begins to take an interest in the goings-on.

Together, they unravel the conspiracy, but not before many people are hurt. Good story, recommended.
