This new adult contemporary romance contains mature themes and is recommended for ages 18+
This is a complete story with no cliffhanger!
Jet Taylor is the quintessential bad boy. A womanizer. A fighter. Dangerous. The type of guy most girls do their best to avoid. But Zoe Janes is no saint herself. In fact, she sees in Jet the perfect opportunity to distract herself from her responsibilities at home and the mistakes that keep her trapped there. He’s gorgeous, likes to party, and is clearly only interested in having fun—just like Zoe.
The more time they spend together, the harder it is for Zoe to stick to her “fun only” mantra. Jet is getting under her skin, making her believe things could actually be different. She knows they’re both trapped by the sins of their past but Jet is starting to make her think freedom might actually be possible.

Escape in You by Rachel Schurig was a decent read. This book had so much potential with these two complex and damaged main characters but I just couldn't connect with either of them.
Jet Taylor and Zoe Janes are two broken individuals who both comes from damaged homes. They both carry guilt, shame, burden, and abuses alcohol as a way to self-medicate their own problems. Both of their situations are rather unfortunate and heartbreaking. In some ways, they were both dealt with a bad set of cards but tries to make the best of it. When these two meet, there is instant attraction and from then on the relationship was cute but as we further progress into the book, in some ways it was destructive. Zoe couldn't fully open up to Jet with her mom's health condition and she found the bottom of a vodka bottle to be her solution. Jet was always the one running to Zoe and helping her out. Jet became Zoe's escape of reality. In the end, both Jet and Zoe learned that there comes a point in your life where you must realize you can't put your life on hold
My Overall Thoughts: This book read more like Young Adult rather than New Adult. I wanted to like Zoe's character but I couldn't really connect with her. I totally understood her situation and pain but there were plenty of times in the book where I felt she enabled the situation with her mom to get worst. Instead of asking for help, she found her escape in alcohol. Well, they both did but mostly Zoe was more destructive and reckless with her behavior.
What I would have preferred was for the author to go in depth with Zoe and her mother. Instead of focusing on partying and unnecessary parts in the book, I would have like to know what was the trigger that caused Zoe's mother to slip in her mental health once again? In the end, I'm glad to know that Zoe and Jet finally had their wake up call. Their lives are not gonna improve if they don't make the necessary changes.
A bit too depressing for my taste but it's really well written. I just couldn't deal with all the sad, sorry characters in this book. Still worth reading, in my opinion though, if you don't mind feeling a little depressed a bit. It has an HEA though, so at least there's something to look forward to. :)
'But I want it to be more than that. I want it to be real. For the first time in my life, I want it to mean something.
And I want her to want that too.'
Sometimes the past has an ironclad grip on your future.
For Jet and Zoe, their past constantly dictates their lives. From the death of Jet's brother and his deteriorating home life, to Zoe's mother battling with insanity - both of them crave an escape.
An escape from the pain. An escape from their reality. An escape from being them.
Sometimes holding on is harder than letting go.
Zoe and Jet find an escape in one another, but is it enough? Because as much as the draw to be with one another grows stronger by the day, so does the fear. The fear of losing one another - of losing their lone anchor. Their lifeline.
And that fear could be the one thing that tears them apart.
Feelings are dangerous. But sometimes they're worth it.
As the past threaten to catch up with the present, Zoe and Jet must struggle to hold onto one another despite the heartbreak, loss and pain. Escape In You is a raw story about finding who you used to be, who you're meant to be, and who you're meant to be with.
As well as learning that sometimes that silver lining is just within your reach if you look hard enough for it.
This book was fantastic! I loved every minute of it <3 It was So sad and so beautiful at the same time .. I loved the bond that created between them .. How they were Holding on to each other like a lifeline .. Their relationship was beautiful ! Taylor is utterly my new book boyfriend ;)

**MY REVIEW:
“He told me once that I was his escape, and I agreed. In a world that was cold and dark and scary, Taylor was my safe place. When I felt trapped… trapped in my guilt and my fear, he was my escape, my way out.”
The characters:
Jet Taylor: Real name Jeremy but goes by “Jet” by others and “Taylor” by Zoe. Estimated 25 years old. Longish brown hair with gold highlights, striking dark brown eyes, and tattooed. Works at a garage. Best friends with Fred who has a crush on Ellie.
Zoe Janes: Twenty-one years old. Naturally blonde but dyed red. Clear blue eyes. Has a nose stud. Goes to a community college. Best friends with Ellie.
Overview: “Escape in You” was a decent read. Both characters damaged individuals who come from broken households and/or tragic circumstances. Each has their own set of demons and insecurities that basically have them battling themselves throughout the course of the story.
I felt a large ploy for Zoe and Taylor’s plights. Both of their situations are rather unfortunate and heartbreaking. In some ways, I guess, you can look at them as just being dealt with a bad set of cards and just trying making everything work around it.
When they meet at a party, there’s an instant spark and attraction between them. They feel as though they can let go and escape in each other. But, of course, as problems arise from the home front it threatens to tear things apart.
My thoughts: During the course of this read, I felt that the chemistry of Zoe and Taylor was both cute and destructive. They had a great camaraderie BUT... there were particular times when Zoe frustrated me with her reckless behavior and ways of how she handled things. She was a walking disaster to me and always tried to numb herself in alcohol. Sure, Taylor had this own faults but as time wore on and he began to develop a trust in Zoe, he began to look to her as a pillar of support and controlled his dangerous behavior (well, most of the time anyway).
It was at the climax of the story though that I was glad that both characters had a wakeup call. They needed to understand that the situations that they’ve had to deal with were never their fault and that it’s okay to be selfish for once. They’ve always had to sacrifice a lot and I was glad that by that time they were able to let go and be happy for once in their lives.
SO, my verdict: Very nice for my first Rachel Schurig read! It was one of the more different books I’ve come across where I at times didn’t know what I felt but was satisfied in the end. I do have to say that I was rather only disappointed that the characters had grown a love relationship so fast. Yeah, they had their unique "bond" but they fell in love rather too fast for my taste.
First of all I loved this story. It had heartache, tragedy, a great deal of sorrow, and unfortunate life events that are slowly killing Jet and Zoe emotionally.
Zoe has been making numerous sacrifices due to responsibilities at home and her feelings of guilt. She appears to be a party girl that just out to have as much fun as she can. But there is a much deeper element to her and a much more tragic story to her life.
Jet Taylor is known to all as the mysterious bad boy, that likes to party, a womanizer, and seems to only be interested in having a good time.
However, Jet has a deeper pain. A deeper heartache. A deeper tragedy, that he avoids dealing with as much as possible. Jet too has made numerous sacrifices due to feeling responsibility for events that have occurred throughout his childhood into his adulthood. They both have a pain that is deep and tormenting.
I loved how these two characters supported each other and essentially did escape in to each other. Important story of how self medicating ones self through pain can cause even more pain and sorrow. Important story of how lack of reaching out to others for help can lead to more suffering and anguish.
Seriously, sad story about life events and how those can trap and cause immeasurable about of grief.

Taylor and Zoe have both a shitty life, they are messed up in their own way and don't believe in happy endings. Partying, drinking and hooking up for fun is the only thing they know to keep their head above the water. So when they meet, they agree to keep things light (Yeaaah, sure)... And we all know what's going to really happened, don't we?
They have friends in common and hang out in the same crouds sometimes, an after a while they'll find out they need each other despite what they first said.
I enjoyed the story and the characters. It was nice to see their situations evolve and finally, they got an HEA. I'm also glad this isn't the first book in a series because man, I can't keep up with all of the sequels I need to read.
So this book was really good, but I wouldn't mind more details about what happened between the sheets! ;)
Two bad-ass characters in a love story is a great combination. Jet Taylor and Zoe Janes were two people who have guilt and burdens in life leaving them broken. As an escape, they both deal with alcohol and the supposed-to-be-just-for-fun-fling turned out into something they will hold on together and fall in love with each other.
It was a decent read. However, the story was predictable and some parts bored me. It's not that bad, but it could be more. I'm waiting for something to happen and will make me giddy. Don't get me wrong, Jet Taylor is undeniably sexy but I'm hoping for more and I'm kinda curious with Fred and Ellie. This has a potential to become a good book, so it's still a thumbs up for me.
Two people lost in their past and held hostage by their guilt come together and find a little bit of peace and quietness in each other. Set out as just a summer romance to have some fun they find something in each other that they each desperately need.
Zoe and Taylor seem so different on the surface. Two people from opposite sides of town who would never think they have anything in common find out they are more alike than they could ever imagine.
Zoe is a strong twenty-one year old who has spent the last several years taking care of her ill mother and putting her life on hold. She feels trapped in a life that she never envisioned. She had dreams of college and just every day normal things that kids her age do. But when the person she loved more than anyone, the woman who has spent her life caring for her falls ill, she gave it all up. She knows her life is now dedicated to her mom and taking care of her needs. Her only escape is alcohol and guys. “Feelings are dangerous. Getting attached means it’s easy to get hurt,
whether you mean it or not.”
Jet “Taylor” is the counterpart to Zoe. He had a great life with dreams of college and baseball but one tragic event changed his life. He now lives in a world where nothing matters, he has been told over and over again he is worthless and doesn’t deserve to be walking this earth. His days are spent working and taking care of his mom and his nights are spent drinking and partying. He uses to numb the pain and erase the guilt.
Together Taylor and Zoe discover what a ‘normal and boring’ life is like. They enjoy discovering everyday things that ordinary people do. They are able to forget what awaits them back home, even if it is just for a little while.
The truth is, I don’t want to have sex with Zoe. I mean, I do—of course I do. She’s ridiculously hot and her kisses make me feel like I’m on fire. But I want it to be more than that. I want it to be real. Fore the first time in my life, I want it to mean something.
And I want her to want that too.
But what starts has a summer fling quickly becomes more. They realize they need each other more than they thought they ever would. Taylor knows Zoe deserves better than him and Zoe doesn’t want to hold Taylor back from a future he deserves. So when something tragic happens, one of them makes the decision to end things early. Both are left heartbroken and shattered and to deal with their problems separately. What will it take for them to see that their lives are their own? What will it take for them to realize that they cannot be held prisoner to their pasts?
I found this to be a great story of finding that one person, even when you least expect it that will be able to show you what life has to hold. It took me a bit to get into the story and it was kind of depressing for most of the time. But I loved the happier moments where Taylor and Zoe could completely forget everything but each other. It was pretty well written and I the dual pov’s flowed really well.

Escape in You is the first book by Rachel Schurig that I have had the pleasure of reading. It is an emotional new adult contemporary that deals with some darker themes. Escape in your is told in a dual narrative, split between Zoe and Taylor's point of views. Zoe and Taylor both have a lot to deal with on their plates, both at home and personally. After reading the book, I realized how similar the two of them were. It was eerily how similar they were. They were both closed off and dealing with sick mothers, even though the sicknesses stemmed from different things and manifested itself in different ways, the result was still the same. They each had to take on too much, too young. My favorite part of Escape in You was watching these Iron, bullet proof walls that Zoe and Taylor maintain around them at all times, come down. Escape in You is really about two people trying to find their way, and trying to see if they can find something safe and real in someone else. It ended up being a really sweet romance.
Zoe and Taylor's moms both treated them awful. For different reasons, and I felt like Zoe's mom didn't really mean it. It was easier for me to tell myself it was because of her sickness, than it was with Taylor's mom. I know she was going through a lot too, but she just seemed crueler to me. I felt so bad for Taylor, some of the things that she said to him just made my heart break. I felt bad for Zoe too. She is left to try and balance her life with a full time job of taking care of her mom. And on top of all of that when Zoe meets Taylor, they both know pretty quickly that the other person is someone special. Zoe denies it for so long, I thought it was cute that Taylor was the one that realized what his feelings were for Zoe way before Zoe admitted it to herself. She just wanted to keep it light and fun, but it was clear to everyone that they were way past that. I just wanted Zoe to admit it to herself.
But, like I said, the two of them are so similar that neither of them wants to admit anything or really let the other person in because they are afraid of getting hurt. And they are both embarrassed about what was going on in their home. I just wanted them take a chance on the other person, because I liked the growth and the people they were when they were together. This book is not all sunshine and roses. There are real, tough issues discussed and there are some ugly parts of people that come out to play, but the end result is so worth it. The romance is broken and beautiful. I really enjoyed Escape in You.
A deep, emotional New Adult romance, Escape in You was a lovely read. I didn't love this book, but I did like it. It was a wonderful romance.
Both main characters were good. Both Zoe and Jet were strong and very loyal to their loved ones. Zoe was not to type to take crap from anyone and she very strong willed. Jet was sweet and the type of person that felt deeply. I had an issue with each of them, though. Zoe was much too prone to wallow in self pity. Sure, she had a lot of challenges to deal with, but the mark of a strong person is not to complain about them constantly. Jet had a very frustrating habit of blaming himself for everything, things that there was no way he was to blame for. At first, it was a reasonable part of his character, with all that happened with his mom. But after a while, it was frustrating. Seriously, man? You are not an all powerful person that controls every bad thing that has ever happened. But, despite these issues, I still ended up liking both of them.
The romance was good. There was definitely a lot of deep emotion portrayed between them, one that I felt as a reader, which I liked. Also, I really liked how they both helped each other heal and move on from all that happened to them. And, the chemistry between them was hot from the moment they met.
The plot was okay. I wasn't hooked, but I was kept interested. I enjoyed the story and I thought the ending was lovely.
Escape in You was a lovely New Adult romance. It wasn't amazing, but it was an enjoyable read. Romance lovers, this is a book you might want to check out.
*I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review
Zoe's lived a difficult life. Her mom is messed up, her mom's husband is a grade A jerk-off, and the way she thought her life would be right now is completely different than it actually is. She spends her time going to Community College, taking care of her mom, and trying to escape her life.
During one of these attempts to escape, she meets Jet. Jet's had some struggles too. His brother passed away, his mother hates him, and his father has basically checked out. He's alone dealing with all his mother's drama, and feels like he deserves everything she throws at him. When he meets Zoe, he can't resist her. She shows him her sweet side, and they quickly become friends.
Jet is there for her, without fail. If she calls, he comes running. He becomes her best friend, and even though she's trying hard not to fall, he's not making it easy! When she realizes that she's in love with him, she pushes him away so she doesn't get hurt. This, is when everything falls apart. Jet makes some stupid decisions trying to drown his hurt, and Zoe's mom just makes some plain crazy decisions that lead to Zoe finding out that everything she thought was fact, wasn't.
When everything with her mom goes pear-shaped, she realizes that Jet is everything she never thought she deserved. But, her choices have caused Jet so much heartache, and things could've ended so much more tragically. This was a truly great story though. Rachel did an amazing job with the characters, and I couldn't put the book down!
Wow! just wow. This story blew me away! Jet and Zoe are two seriously emotionally damaged people. They both have tragically horrible excuses for mothers. They're also both drowning their sorrows with parties, meaningless sex, and substance abuse. There was a nice little ending that wraps up all the loose ends - but I'd actually love for the story to continue in future books highlighting the other main characters, particularly Ellie and Fred. I'd also like to know if both their mothers received the help they needed, and how they reincorporate themselves back into their families. And of course, I want to see the resident gay find his love also.
There was really only one issue that I had in the whole book. About 60% in Jet says: "What can I say babe. You're like my new drug" Eyeroll, I've seen this line in about 20 books since Twilight. Maybe it's just me, but nothing says codependency more than 'I'm comparing you to a drug that's needed for survival'
I loved this authors writing style, and will definitely be downloading other books from her.
Jet Taylor and Zoe Janes are both broken and they try to ignore their problems by partying. But when they meet each other, it is an instant connection which they have to settle between the fights and their everyday problems.
I really liked the story but couldn't quiet connect with Zoe. This felt more like Young Adult and not New Adult which was a little confusing at times. I really tried to understand her pain and what she was going through. Overall, it's an amazing story but there are just couple of things that bothered me.
ARC was givin by publisher thru Netgalley,So Thank you.
Sometimes I really hate to read broken people.Reading all sad story wants me to cry all night.Somehow this one was different. Also this book didn't feel like New Adult. It was like a Young Adult. Taylor and Zoe have both a shitty life, they are messed up in their own way and they don't believe happy ending. They only believe partying, drinking and hooking is better. So when they meet, they agree to keep feelings down.I enjoyed the story and the characters and it was really nice to see healing each other.
She is definitely dealing with much darker issues-mental illness, addiction, abuse etc. I like the redemptive nature of their relationship. I realize that many people do try to escape their issues with unhealthy behaviors, but it is still very tragic and heartbreaking.
This book is so criminally under-hyped. In fact, there’s no hype and I don’t understand why??
I first read this book around ten years ago, I think? I didn’t remember everything but I remember how I felt and that feeling has stuck with me all of these years. Reading it again as 31 year old woman, I would say not much has changed. This is an extremely powerful story about two people so far down in the depths of hopelessness who are able to find sanctuary in each other. The author does such an amazing job painting such a bleak picture for these two, that I truly felt their pain and wanted so badly to see them win. I related a lot to the substance abuse aspect in this book and felt that it really captured that experience. The romance is super sweet, heartwarming and felt very organic. That being said, the plot did sometimes feel all over the place. Things popped up later in the book with significant purpose even though they were barely mentioned for most of the story, though everything did end up coming together in the end. The story is so multilayered and really pulls on your heart strings. I cried multiple times near the end and I expect Zoe and Taylor to continue to stick with me for a long time. 🖤 I also think this would make a kick ass movie or tv show?? *Sending that idea out into the universe*
Highly recommend, but PLEASE read your trigger warnings. There are some very heavy topics at play here 🫶🏻
I got this book free during a Stuff-Your-Kindle event. Sometimes those books are just so-so, and I was so close to DNF’ing this book at the beginning. I thought it was going to be a cheesy, young adult fluff book. But oh no, I was very pleasantly surprised! The H and h had so much depth to their characters, the scenes were set up perfectly, and there was definite heart-string-pulling emotions. Zoe and Taylor have both experienced some pretty hardcore trauma in their young lives, but together, they start to overcome it. I loved that you could FEEL the struggles they personally went through, that the author made me feel like I was experiencing the emotions through the characters’ eyes. She really did a brilliant job of bringing this story to life. I 100% one-clicked the sequel, and I can’t wait to dive in.
I wasn't prepared so just an fyi here's a trigger warning for suicide, sexual assault, alcoholism, mental disorders, physical and verbal abuse and drug use.
Okay with that being said, I really enjoyed this book even wrangled some tears out of me. Taylor and Zoe are likeable enough with both having dark serious issues in their lives but manage to find some lightness in each other. It was tough to read some parts with the subject next matter but it was worth it though gut wrenching. Oh and I hate the "redemption" of a character near the end cause after what he did he should rot in hell and I hate that the author tried to redeem him. Other than that it was a good read but be aware of the trigger warning I gave if it concerns you.
The story of Taylor and Zoe was not to my liking. It dealt with verbally, emotional, and physical abuse. The two characters are only in their early 20's and the baggage that they have to really bad. Taylor and Zoe does have a support team to help them through their ordeal. but in order for them to cope with the pressure they drink really hard. I do not like reading this dark of a book. To me it is not enjoyable. I will tell you that it does have a happy ending.
"I want to watch her fall over the edge, want to see her fall apart in my arms. But the edge is coming for me, too, and it's so overwhelming I almost can't take it. So I whisper her name, close my eyes, and, finally, find my escape in her."
To briefly say: I really liked this book. With very charming characters, especially Taylor, but also the good friends like Fred and Ellie, this book was a very enjoyable read that was also equally enlightening to all the ways people, families, and homes can be broken- especially due to illnesses or grief or loss.
The one thing that I could have dealt without was the EFFING CLICHED BREAK UP
HONESTLY I don't know how many books I've read that have this same damn break up scheme that makes me want to rip out my hair and my guts at the same time. EVEN FREAKING
These were all, I feel, amazing books but they would have been less teeth grindingly painful if the effing characters didn't act like stupid, little, self-rightous crap turds. In this book, Taylor and Zoe break up in what's supposed to be the climax of the story because the same over used story line of "this is what's best" HOWEVER IS THAT EVER EXPLICITLY SAID TO ONE ANOTHER? IS THERE EVER REAL COMMUNICATION? IS THERE EVER NOT SOMEONE WHO STOMPS/WALKS/RUNS AWAY IN SOME SHAPE OR FORM TO THEN LEAD TO PAINFUL MISCOMMUNICATION OR NO COMMUNICATION AT ALL???? I'm just so sick of one of the characters thinking that what they're doing is best, or thinking that they're doing the right thing. As if they can judge what the right thing is for the other person. The result is is that the person- who's left behind, not totally understanding what's going on, and in this case it's Taylor- they typically go into a rage and end up doing some stupid shit. For Edward, he almost kills himself, and what do you know??? SPOILER ALERT NOT REALLY A SPOILER ALERT, AFTER ZOE PULLS THIS SHIT (I even hate saying her name because it's so familiar to me) TAYLOR OD'S TO "TAKE THE PAIN AWAY" ALMOST RESULTING IN ULTIMATE, PERPETUAL LOSS OF PAIN.
I just can't stand these kinds of schemes that authors use nowadays to make a relationships "stronger" or to just give the reader something "interesting". it's come to the point where it's cheap, annoying, and it's LAZY. It doesn't break my heart anymore. It doesn't make me feel anything for anyone anymore, especially when people who apparently love each other break up within five minutes
to go on to the redeeming quality of this book: The writing wasn't half bad the characters weren't half bad it did make me smile and or laugh at some parts it wasn't that painfully long to read and Taylor is just a beautiful human being who's way too good for Zoe
SO THERE ZOE U HOE BAG
But seriously, Zoe was so annoying throughout the whole book. Towards the end, every time Taylor would say the gooey stuff of "I don't deserve the happiness she's given me" and "she's so brave" I couldn't help but roll my eyes at some points. Because yes, I'll give it to her that she went through a lot of shit, way much more than any person deserves, and she was justified to do things that she thought helped her, like go crazy on the alcohol, but at the end of the day she was typically self-deprecating. Hell, they both were, but at least Taylor had the character development that I lacked until the last ten pages of the book, to generously say.
Read this at your own discretion. if you think you'll like this book, then go ahead and read it, however the good laughs and the deep story of grief and immeasurable pain- it comes with the price of cliched break up horrors and a somewhat hard to swallow main character.
I'm out

Basically a story about two people struggling to cope with hopeless situations in their lives. They turn to alcohol and drugs to numb the pain of dealing with said issues and in the process find each other. It’s not as ‘erotic’ as the write up leads you to believe. It’s rather sweet and touches on mental awareness and alcoholism.
This is undeniably good! The book is full of teenage angst and at the same time you can see the immaturity of both lead characters. But the character development as the chapter goes is superb! The leads’ chemistry is really something to look forward to. I highly recommend!
PS. This can be read as a standalone. No cliffhanger!
Two very dysfunctional people meet and fall in love pretty much instantly. The main challenge to their relationship is their own low self-esteem and high self-loathing, but then a couple of absentee father figures show up and set them straight, Which as a way of resolving that particular issue is ... not one I much liked, to be honest.
Me agradó bastante.
