Yazeed, one of Manto's short story/ essay collections that was published probably between late 1951 and early 1952. Contains following short stories/ essays:
- Yazeed - Gurmukh Singh Ki Wasiyat - Aakhri Salute - Jhooti Kahaani? - Tetwaal Ka Kutta - 1919 Ki Ek Baat - Chor - Nikki - Mummy - Jaeb-e-Kafan
This collection was mainly about Indo-Pak partition and it's imapct on the people, the stories presented the gruesom reality. The longest Afsana of this collection was Mummy and I must say that Manto never disappoints the readers who invest their time in reading his work. My favorite afsana were Tetwaal ka Kutta and 1919 ki aik bat.
Very good title story, plus a couple of other powerful ones. In the last piece,Manto wonders if after his death,he will be given some official award. He doesn't like the idea. But that is precisely what happened. After a lifetime battling obscenity charges,Manto is now officially recognized as a great writer. It is very ironic. (3.5 stars)
A great collection. Loved all the pieces. I had read Yazeed, Gurmukh Singh Ki Wasiyat, Jhooti Kahaani? and Chor before. 1919 Ki Ek Baat and Jaeb-e-Kafan struck me the most.
