Kade Boehme is the epitome of dorkdom, only watching TV when Rachel Maddow or one of his sports teams is on. Most of his free time is spent dancing, arguing politics or with his nose in a book. He is also a hardcore Britney Spears fangirl and has an addiction to glitter.

It was after writing a short story about boys who loved each other for a less than reputable adult website that he found his true calling, and hopefully a bit more class. He hopes to write about all the romance that he personally finds himself allergic to but that others can fall in love with. He maintains that life is real and the stories should be, as well.

I didn't like it at all.

John came across as a total asshole, tbh. He and Taylor had been lovers at school or at least they were friends and had sex and obviously cared about each other, but then suddenly John got himself a girlfriend, but he still continued having sex with Taylor. Double cheating if you ask me. Then John's parents got killed in a car crash - which was horrible, no doubt about that - but after that he just up and went to some other town instead of living with Taylor and his parents, then he got his girlfriend pregnant and left, kissing Taylor before departing and saying he (Taylor) would be always the first for him. The girl lost their child and he 'sent her home'. WTF was that really?

Later John just kept sinking lower and lower from being a jobless bum to being a cocaine user and through it all Taylor continued moral support and financial support and John only wrote him rare letters, but later deigned him with a visit, just so Taylor could pay for his treatment at the rehab.

So it all went on like this, Taylor had his boyfriends and John had his boyfriends and girlfriends and his later gf Emma was oh-so-perfect-and-understanding and by accident Taylor overheard what he thought was John planning secret wedding with Emma, but turned out he broke up with her some time ago and it was just a gig at Emma's sister wedding, so when Taylor rushed to city hall and told John how he loved him, John responded in kind and said he always loved Taylor too. Reunion sex, the end :/

The writing was good, but I thought Taylor was a doormat and John was a worthless asshole, so unfortunately I didn't like this story.

Short, free read from Kade Boehme is Taylor's recounting of his rocky road to love with his best friend John. Though John's life consists of more downs than ups, Taylor is the one steady, offering love and encouragement even though it often breaks his heart. After years of keeping his feelings locked down, Taylor finally has to decide whether he is willing to take the ultimate risk and confess his true feelings to John before it is too late. As always, the author's writing is funny and sad and packs a lot into a very short read.

Kade. You are officially my hero for the day. You have no idea. I have edited an emotionally rough book, read two other real dark books, bought one that I THOUGHT would be cotton candy and lift me out of my near suicide depression and it took YOUR FREE READ to get me to put my razor blade away. LOL

Seriously. Sweet, lovely read. I adored it. Thank you, kind sir!

Highly recommended to make you go, "AWWWW!"

I love the best friends to lovers trope but this was a bit different. We see two boys who connect with their dislikes and grow together to become best friends.

As high school progresses John becomes the popular kid and Taylor stays the same weird kid. However, their friendship always holds strong. We see the boys grow together as Taylor is gay and John bisexual. They both are each other's first when it comes to oral sex. John meets girls he likes and Taylor pines for his best friend.

Then life crashes around John and he becomes a shadow of the man he once was. Taylor spends his life loving a man just out of reach. This story as short as it was, showed elements of the good and the bad of people. Taylor's dramatics and John's inability to move on. It's not always pretty and that's what I enjoyed. The flawed characters.

I would have rated this higher but there were blatant editing mistakes.

One of Kade's free reads, yet still packed an emotional punch.

This is Taylor's story about falling in love with his best friend John. It's the story of love, loss, finding hope and giving it up only to discover that he can't give up.

John has Taylor's heart but he doesn't take care of it. The journey to love is a long, hard road full of bumps, twists, and sharp curves that throw them off the path more times than they can count.

I wholeheartedly recommend this.

A nicely written heart wrencher as Taylor describes his and John's relationship over 15 years.
Despite being each others first experiences, John mainly dates girls through high school, squashing Taylor's heart. Then he goes off the rails after the sudden death of his parents. Taylor is still there for him, heart severely dented but never quite broken. Even when John comes back, gets clean, they still can't quite get together.
A great, emotional short story, quickly paced, easy to read.

20.10.18 reread - enjoyed this short emotional rollercoaster again. Taylor really does hang in there for his best friend and first love John.

Didn't no which way this story wide go so much heartbreak as emotionally drained me. I was relived once.

Taylor has always wen I love with john his best friend but things never progressed since.

John just didn't know what he wanted he went through girlfriend boyfriends just like that self abused.

One day john turns up Taylor helps him out. Is it too late for Taylor to confess or will it too late for both and him and john or maybe a second chance .
