I didn't know quite what to expect from this book based on the Premise alone. That said, it was very clearly written by a man who truly enjoys writing. It's a modern day story with elemental magic and quite a few pleasant surprises as well. I'm recommending this new(ish) author to all of my friends, as well as picking up a few more hard copies for presents this year. Very well done, I look forward to Knight of Air!

Knight of Flame is book one in the Knights Elementalis series and I can't wait for book two. Eder has melded the chilvalric code of medieval knights with the more ancient metaphysical concept of four universal elements of creation: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The first book focuses on the element of fire and through it, explores the need for self-control and the balancing power of love.
Though the two threads the form the premise for this book go back into antiquity, Eder melds them together to form something new, fresh and provocative. The story is fast paced and tightly written with characters who, despite their fantastic powers, the reader can empathize with. Cassidy Sinclair, the female lead and a pure human, is particularly well-drawn, with strengths, frailties, and baggage that are common to the human condition without being cliché. In fact, Eder draws his female characters with the same moral fortitude and strength as his male characters, a refreshing change from much of the most popular fantasy novels. Neither does he ignore the basic human needs of his characters, even the superhumans among them, both male and female.
In fact, the only character who is not fully articulated, and perhaps this is deliberate and will be remedied in later installments, is Stillman, the Knight's leader, who at times seems a bit contradictory in his actions, often without a satisfying explanation. This small caveat in no way detracted from my enjoyment of the book, though. It was more of a "hmmm," than a "what?!"
In the fantasy genre, it doesn't get much better than the Knights Elementalis. Pick up a copy of Knight of Flame if you get a chance. You won't be sorry.

I really enjoyed the heck out of this book. It has all the elements (no pun intended) that I like to see in an urban fantasy. First, the characters. They were all great. This book focuses mostly on Dev, the Knight of Flame, and Cassidy, the reporter/friend/other he meets after doing battle with the forces of shadow. We see background chiefly of those characters, but others are also developed-- just not as much. I expect that to happen in later books. Second, the powers/abilities. The Knights Elementalis all have abilities related to their specific element and the author does a great job exploring those. The interactions between the characters are also well done. The seem like they are supposed to fit together. Third, the bad guy: the erstwhile Gray Lord is a formidable foe with powers of his own, and a dragon "sidekick" to boot. I loved this; not enough dragons in urban fantasy, although probably for obvious reasons. Finally, the story. It was fast paced, detailed, but not so much as to bog it down. The breaks to reveal history of Dev (or occasionally Cassidy) are necessary to both give background and move the story forward. Plus there was just enough unrevealed information to whet your appetite for the next book, which I am really looking forward to. Highly recommended.

I am an avid sci-fi/fantasy reader and I loved this book! The characters I thought were very interesting and I liked how the author combined the medieval concepts with modern day action. Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Fire, Earth, Air, Water. Dev is the fire knight. He is a skilled fighter and a powerful wielder of fire. Perhaps too powerful. In addition to his shadow enemies controlled by The Lord Gray, Develor Quinteel is fighting his own demons. Haunted by tragic events when he accepted the powers but had not yet learned to control them, He seems to be heading out of control in modern Tampa, Florida. With enemies on the move, he must find his balance, or he may become as dangerous as the enemies he fights.
Scot Eder has written a new urban fantasy with fantastic beings, magic, and a good dose of swash and buckle. Once the action starts, the reader will want to know what happens next.

Knight of Flame is a wonderfully complex and complete world that draws you in from the beginning. This book was recommended to me by a friend (a guy) and I expected it to have some great fight scenes - which it does - but Knight of Flame is so much more than that, it is a complete world that I just fell in love with, right from the start. One of the things that I really liked about this book is how real all the characters were to me. I don't know if the series will continue from (mostly) the Knight of Flame's perspective or if the author will take us into one of the other Knight's heads, but I do know that I can't wait to read whatever comes next!

OMG!!! First I have to say..
"Mr. Eder, I had planned to read this over a few days.
Yeah...That didn't happen!
I started reading and low and behold I finished the next morning....who needs sleep."
This book takes Mr. Eder's world to the extreme, The characters (Hotness!!!), the interaction,the twists.....AMAZING!!!
I'm at a lost for words on how I felt at the end....on one hand I was left WOW'ed, but on the other I wanted.... no, CRAVED .....MORE!!!
For this being the first installment of the knights I wonder how our AWESOME author is going to top this.
I personally will be stalking Mr. Eder as I await any inkling of the next knight!!!!

Alright, let's start with the good stuff. I loved the way this author intertwined character's thoughts,words,emotions and actions on the page. The lore was interesting and meshed well with a "real world" setting. The book moved at a timely pace.
I have one giant gripe with this book though. The ending. Using our friend Harry Potter as an example, if you've watched the movies you know that Book 7 was split into 2 films. This essentially made the first of the two films an hour and a half long preview. This is how I was left feeling at the end of the book. I'm assuming the author is still working on the series as a whole, but this book would stand better on its own with a more substantial ending. Will definitely grab the next (Air, I believe) as soon as I am able.

Templar Knight of flame Dev Quinteele has a job. He must defeat the last of the grey lords but he is having a problem controlling his temper which may just be the end of him. Along with his fellow nights and an acolyte and a reporter along for the wild ride he has his work cut out for him.
The story starts with a bang and continues from there. Hang on to your seats readers and have extinguishers ready because it's gonna get hot! I enjoyed the story and was rivetted to the pages. Five golden flames for penning a fascinating tale goes to the author.

Knight of Flame by Scott Eder is a perfectly written fantasy novel about the role of the Knights Elementalis and Shadow in our time. The story line is imaginative and exciting, tragic and exhilarating all at the same time. I was hooked from the very first page. Infused with humor, these characters walked away with a huge piece of my heart. And dragons! Who doesn't love dragons....? I am happily anticipating more.

Knight of Flame is a very well-written urban fantasy with well-developed characters and a complex plot. Great pacing and strong conflict kept the pages turning. This is an author to watch out for...

Decent read, generally liked the main characters, but the book has some annoying moments of male gaze.
