Aspiring food blogger and ex-college student, Bianca Phillips, is sick and tired of her mother’s immature behavior. Desperate to escape family drama and responsibilities of caring for her brother, she goes for a bike ride in the country and stumbles upon an apple tree. With her stomach rumbling, Bianca reaches for a fruit and is startled by a mysterious and delectable man.
Over a hundred and fifty years ago, Levi Elwood and Peter Cabrera had their world turned upside down when they ate a slice of apple pie. Through the loss and heartbreak that followed, their friendship turned to loathing as both men struggled to come to terms with their new and unusual life.
Charming, seducer Peter has no idea it was the apples that made him immortal, but he’s desperate to find the cause and he knows Levi has the answer.
Rugged outdoorsman, Levi, now guards the apple tree, hoping to protect others from the same fate as his own. One fall evening, his life changes forever when a beautiful redhead wanders onto the property.
Bianca unknowingly becomes entangled in a centuries old feud that could leave her and her loved ones in grave danger. Will Levi be able to protect others from the pain of the curse or will Peter get control of the tree and the woman Levi is falling for?
Kara Jimenez lives in Corvallis, Oregon with her pizza-making husband, three rambunctious kids and eight crazy chickens that like to peck her to pieces. When she’s not writing you can find her teaching her children, filling her cupboards with homemade jam and eating coffee ice cream.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to read an early draft of The Apple Tree, and cannot wait until it's full release this mid November!
The Apple Tree is a wonderful read that captured my attention within the first chapter and held it throughout with its POV rotation between the three MCs.
Kara Jimenez weaves a unique twist on the immortality theme, by building a world where the blessing of long life comes with a costly curse. Her MCs embark on a heart wrenching love story where their unique personalities play into each others fears and motivations as Kara carefully exposes their life-long secrets.
I highly recommend this book to all romance fans and any paranormal fans who fancy a story outside the vampire/angel trope!
The Apple Tree introduces us to Bianca, who lives at home with her mother and brother Owen. Bianca’s father left his mother for another woman and her mom fell apart. Bianca was living with a friend but moved back home because her mom did not take very good care of her brother Owen. One day after following a deer, she gets lost in the woods. She’s hungry so she picks a green apple from one of the trees. She starts eating it and finds a worm in it so she throws it on the ground. Bianca is then found by Levi who owns the property, and is rudely questioned if she had eaten any red apples. Bianca tells him no and that she was sorry for being on his property but she was lost. Levi gets her out of the woods and follows her to make sure she didn’t eat any red apples.
After watching Bianca for a little, Levi is convinced that she probably didn’t eat any of the cursed apples; however he knows he’s in trouble because of the growing attraction he has towards Bianca. Levi knows he can’t have a relationship with Bianca without revealing his secret (that he is immortal) and how he became that way. He also would have to tell her the horrible affect the curse has on the one the person loves the most. Levi knows he needs to stay away. Peter was once a friend of Levi’s and was also turned immortal; however he doesn’t know how it happened. Peter does know that Levi knows how it happened and has offered him money to tell him but Levi refuses to tell him.
The day Levi followed Bianca home and was watching her from his truck, Peter saw Levi and Peter devised a plan to get close to Bianca so that he could use Bianca against Levi. Bianca is attracted to Levi from the start but finds it creepy that he was sitting in the park spying on her. Peter asks her out and they have a picnic in the park but she puts the brakes on when Peter puts the moves on her.
Bianca gives Levi another chance and finds that he is actually a very nice guy. Peter still tries to put the moves on Bianca but all she thinks about is Levi.
While riding her bike to Levi’s, a mountain lion came out of the forest and went after Bianca. Levi was coming out of his cabin and went after the mount lion. Levi and the lion wrestled and eventually Bianca took the gun out of Levi’s truck and killed the mountain lion. After this incident Levi had to tell Bianca everything.
Levi decides the best way to protect Bianca from Peter and his family is to cut the tree down and then tell Peter and his family about the tree. Bianca does not want him to cut it down because she is afraid of the effects that could have on Levi, especially the fact that he might die. Levi cuts the tree down but is too late in protecting Bianca from Peter and his family kidnapping her. There is arguing and shots are fired and they find that the tree’s effects no longer work and someone dies. You have to read the book to find out who it is though.
Jimenez has written a story that is wonderful and entertaining. The characters are interesting and believable. Jimenez shows that there are two sides to the curse, both the good and the bad. This way of storytelling makes for a more persuasive storyline.
The book is well written and is a definite must read!

As I mentioned it was a long time ago when I read Paranormal Romance, but I loved it so much!!
Bianca Phillips is a food blogger, who has trust issues. Her father left beacuse he fell in love with someone else, and her boyfriend left her also...that's why she doesn't really belive in relationships but mostly men.
She has a younger brother, who she often takes care of, because her mother can't really cope with the fact that her husband left... Bianca is the one who act as a "mother" and looking after her brother and mother.
One day she goes for a bike ride in the country and stumbles upon an apple tree...
Levi Elwood
He guards the apple tree, hoping to protect others from the same fate as his own, over a hundred and fifty years. That's how he meets Bianca, and fall for her instantly.
But Peter charming, seducer has no idea it was the apples that made him immortal, but he’s desperate to find the cause and he knows Levi has the answer.
First it looks like Bianca struggles between the two men.
When a montain lion attackes Bianca, Levi has to reveal his secret to protect her and that's where their story really began.
Will Levi be able to protect others from the pain of the curse or will Peter get control of the tree and the woman Levi is falling for?
I loved it so much, it's really a well written book, and I love the story and the characters. It was hard to put down I always want more and more, and to be honest I was a bit sad when it's ended.
Just got this in the mail from First Reads! So excited to read it!
I loved it! The ending made me so happy. Levi is awesome. I wasn't sure about him at the beginning but he totally became awesome at the end. I thought Peter was really stupid and he just annoyed me the whole time. Bianca was like Levi, she was a flake at the beginning but I really enjoyed her character by the end. I was just super happy with how it ended (especially how Levi took care of Charles). It was not a very long book which also made it nice. Didn't leave time to get really annoyed with anyone. :) I highly recommend this book.
I read an early draft of this book and intend to read it again when it's published. Kara has a wild and vivid imagination, creating unique characters and a curse which spans one hundred and fifty years.
A light reading fictional. Entertaining idea using The Apple Tree and red apples when eaten the magical results. When the tree was destroyed, held true to the characters. Enjoyed reading the book.
Despite the love triangle angle of the story which made me groan a little, the story itself was unique enough to keep me turning pages to find out what happened and how it all began. The author uses some flashbacks to reveal past events in Levi and Peter’s lives, which did help build the story and the characters but which were also oddly placed sometimes. The characters themselves were decently done, but I struggled to fully connect with them. I felt for Peter’s plight and Levi’s struggles about being the guardian of the tree, but it didn’t draw me in as much as I think it had the potential to do. Bianca’s character was a almost there, but she was wishy-washy with Peter in a few places, which seemed to help fuel the flames of the triangle.
What kept me reading, for the most part, was the unique story and the mystery of the apple tree. I think this could have been explored even further, but because of the unique flavor of the urban mythos surrounding this book, it gets a Ramen Review thumbs up.
I really thought I'd love this story, but it kinda fell short for me. It reminds me of the Archers of Avalon (which is one reason I wanted to read it).
But there's something different here, that just makes you feel lost-- not like you aren't catching something, just like things don't tie together.
I also had trouble connecting to some of the characters.
