There was a king – King Arthur of Camelot
There was a knight – Sir Nicholas the Dragon
There was a wager that each swore he would win . . .

Lady Noelle has no intention of marrying just to save her family’s castle. She feels nothing for Sir Gavin, the man who will become her husband on Christmas Day. Then she spies Camelot’s newest knight, the notorious Sir Nicholas the Dragon, a champion as renowned for his prowess in the beds of Camelot’s maidens as for his skill in battle. Noelle’s heart has found the man she longs for, even as her hand is promised to another.

Sir Nicholas’s only loyalty is to his king, whose orders are clear. He is to fend off the enemy besieging Noelle’s castle and bring the lady safely back to Camelot for her wedding day. But spending time with the proud beauty awakens an irresistible hunger in him Now, as desire does battle with duty, Nicholas has only two choices -- to surrender the woman he loves to another man or fight to the end to make her his own.

Brenda Jernigan is a bestselling author. Her books have been nominated for
many awards - Book Seller’s Best Award, The Maggie Award, and The Holt
Medallion Award. Publisher’s Weekly said, “Brenda Jernigan writes Romance,
Adventure and Magic”

She grew up living the life of a tomboy – climbing trees, playing ball, and excluding starry-eyed romance from her daily repertoire. Brenda discovered the love of books while taking her son to Story Hour at the local library -- she was hooked. She set an ambitious goal and began work on her first novel. She continued to write six more novels in rapid succession. She figured having the same birthday as Ernest Hemingway couldn’t hurt.

Her books have been printed in several languages and her last book “Southern Seduction” written under the name of Alexandria Scott was printed in Russian.

Very interesting mix of the stories and myths of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table with a beleiveable romance involving a knight and a lady from a neighboring area.

Noelle has been spurning suitors ever since Merlin himself told her she'd marry her one true love, but when her oldest brother gets exasperated and promises her to Sir Gavin, Noelle is set to be wed on Christmas Day at Camelot castle. Nicholas has no use for love. He enjoys women and leaves them, but when he meets Noelle, he can't help but be drawn to the headstrong beauty. Too bad she has been promised to another. However, Christmas is just around the corner, bringing miracles of its own.

The story was charming enough. Noelle got herself into enough scrapes, most of which Nicholas had to save her from. The setting was lovely, and characters were portrayed well. What I found disappointing, however, is that the villain of the piece escaped without any justice being meted out. I'm vindictive by nature, and I dislike seeing someone get off scot free like that. Hmpf.

A decent enough story, fitting for the season. Four stars.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was the typical romance novel. Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Yada yada yada. I smiled and laughed all the way through. Not sure if I'd ever read it again since the end is pretty predictable. But definitely a good read
