Dropping Acid: A Beginner's Guide to the Responsible Use of LSD for Self-Discovery
This is a book about LSD. A substance that nearly everyone has heard of, but very few really know anything about.
In these pages you can learn about the history of this enigmatic substance; the chemistry of how it works; come to understand some of the myths and truths about it; and even read some first-hand stories of 'trips' taken after having consumed LSD.
But most importantly, this is a book about Self-Discovery. It explains how LSD can be used to learn about yourself; how it changes your perception of the world, and how to use this changed perception to make changes in yourself.
Dale Bewan is the pseudonym of a passionately curious man.
Dale has first-hand experience of many psychedelic substances, but none more so than LSD.
Aside from psychedelics and psychopharmacology, Dale has a wide range of interests and skills, covering everything from historical linguistics to software design to astrophysics.
Born and raised in southern New Zealand, Dale has since travelled the world and has set foot on every continent and more countries than he can recall. He speaks four languages and is 'at home' anywhere where there are interesting people to talk to.
Professionally, Dale is a software developer for a large multinational company. He greatly enjoys his work - most especially the creative aspects - however refuses to let it define him as a person.
Currently Dale lives in Hannover, Germany with his wife and two young children, who mean the world to him.
Of course, being my own book, I can hardly not rate it highly. Looking objectively as I can though, I can say that in my book I have covered everything I wish other books on the subject would do, and in a way that very few other books have even attempted. I avoid the "mystical" and instead speak plainly and clearly. I use science, history and reason to back up statements I make and don't rely on pseudoscience. While there is certainly an aspect of the psychedelic experience that can be described as feeling 'mystical', I don't let this influence my writing; instead explaining this mystical feeling as best I can in the aforementioned rational manner. Despite the rationality, the book isn't dry. The intention is to entertain as it teaches. It gives practical advice, a wealth of information, and stories of LSD trips, and it does it all in a way that (hopefully) inspires you to keep reading and not put it down.
The content of the book, particularly the lived experiences and practical aspects, were very interesting and (irony incoming) opened my mind up to the potential of LSD as a mind opening substance.
Unfortunately, some of the writing was fairly poor (annoying even) and it would have done well to have even just a few references.
Leste denne i pausene på trening. Boken handler om hvordan man skal ta LSD for å ha en god og selvutviklende opplevelse. Også litt om historien og kjemien til stoffet. Artig lesning.
