Afterworld adventurer James Moody, deported from the UK back to the US, strives to keep his promise to dead girlfriend Karla and rescue her from the frigid antechamber of Hell called The Deeps. Meanwhile, Frelsian assassin Wendell Franks employs coercion to recruit him as an apprentice, threatening to eliminate those he cares for one by one unless he complies.
A fantastic continuation that had me homesick for New England while simultaneously finding myself drawn a little more to the world of the Liminality. I was happy to see a bit of a crossover with Lethe once we actually got to the Deeps. Also Urzula quickly became a favorite character.
The Deeps picks up right where Frelsi leaves off. James is deported from the UK back to the US and intends on keeping his promise to find Karla in The Deeps. New friends and foes are introduced and things that once seemed impossible become all too real. I was very excited when I saw that this book was released and I was not disappointed. The Deeps is a great addition to A. Sparrow's fantasy epic. The only complaint I have (if it can even be called a complaint) is that I was left wanting so much more and without any inkling if there will be a fourth book. Once again I ask you A. Sparrow... what's next?
